Came here for a quick, impromptu lunch since this was the closest place to where I was when I got hungry. I am definitely glad that it was this place. First of all, this place looks like it'd be a cool spot to chill at night. Thoughtfully designed and somewhat upscale feeling although it's casual. I was craving a grilled cheese for some reason, and the one here comes with cheddar, bacon & tomato on Texas Toast. Tasty and satisfying. Beer prices aren't bad, and the selection is pretty solid, although I know this place is more focused on cocktails (clocking in at $14 - $15 each). Overall a good experience. 1 drink cost me $20 dollars. I'm exaggerating. It cost $19 but I like to round up. God that just hurts my soul. Granted I had whiskey, and damn good whisky I might add, but damn. There are 3 types of bars in my opinion. I'm also not a bar connoisseur so I'm probably totally off. But again, my opinion. So you have the upscale/trendy bars, the mid-scale bar and your dives. I prefer dives. Drinks are cheap, crowd has character (read shady). This bar is what I would call upscale. Only young professionals with money to burn need apply, drinks for outrageous prices and a fancy menu. The group I came with loves this place. They come here often and even host a few private events here throughout the year. They also say the food and mixed drinks are great. I stuck to whisky. This place was packed on a Thursday night. Obviously. We were stuck by the door and it was freezing. Eventually we were able to move in a little. There are few options in the immediate area which would explain the crowd. I must say, despite the crowd, it did not take me too long to get a drink. The bartenders were good. My favorite of the two was the one that filled my glass to the top. Thanks guy. At the end of our night, one of the bartenders bought my group a round. I missed out on it. I will no doubt return. This place is steps away from where I work and my experience wasn't awful. read more

Probably slightly overpriced, but I think if you're looking for a fun after-work spot in midtown this does the trick, and it's always busy, which i take to be a good sign! This place is a blast! The decor somewhat reminds me of Southern Hospitality with big wooden tables, minimalist finishes and big signs in bright white lights. It's hip, the crowd is pretty and on a friday night there's a DJ who seems to know what he is doing. The food and cocktails are great and worth trying as much as you can. We particularly enjoyed the cheese curds, wings and eggplant chips. The prices aren't cheap, but the portion sizes are rather large and great to share. Cocktails will mess you up! read more

The Yelp universe is correct - Tanner Smiths is an amazing find for a great cocktail in Midtown West / Hell's Kitchen. Cool atmosphere, often with live music, chill bartenders and waitresses and tasty yet strong drinks make this an amazing find. Came here on a Sunday evening and was pleasantly surprised to find a great live band playing in the front. My friend and I were hoping to catch up over a few drinks so our hostess led us to a table towards the back that was far enough away from the band that we could hear ourselves think and talk but could still enjoy the band in the background. It was tough picking out a drink as they all looked good but I chose the Footloose. The Footloose was fantastic. It's made with Vodka, house made cucumber syrup, elderflower liqueur, celery bitters, lime juice, fresh basil, black pepper and was an elegant balance of herbacious and sweet notes. I easily could have drank it like juice but could feel the underlying alcohol so tried to restrain myself. It was also very pretty to look at, served in a martini glass topped with a fresh basil leaf and ground peppercorns. Yum. My friend went with a classic Moscow Mule which was served very chilled in a copper mug and had just the right amount of tangy ginger bite to compliment the sweetness. Both were delicious and after 2 rounds we were definitely feeling the buzz. I can't wait to come back and try other cocktail creations! Too cool to be correct bartender We live in the neighborhood and were so excited that the Russian Mafia had abandoned the place that used to be called Corgette. The vibe is great..noisy...yo..it's a bar. I asked for a Ketel One martini straight up with a twist. It came with stuffed olives...super salty. I asked him to remake the drink. His response was: "Really? I can just take the olives out." So I said: "No, it's a taste that I don't like." He made a big pretense of making a new drink....and it was HORRIBLE. It was full of olive juice, like he was testing me. Even my date, who is not a martini guy, almost gagged about the taste of salt. We left, giving him no tip. Seriously guys....we have money. This was rude and stupid. I left a note on the bar napkin pointing to my drink which said: "bad drink." The bartender was much more interested in talking to men than dealing with us (a couple). Obsessed! Found this place on Yelp and loved everything about it when we got there. There are plenty of tables in the back, bar in front, and great casual hip ambiance. They also didn't bat an eye when I asked for an egg on my tacos. We got various tacos and split the fried chicken (which is gluten free). Tacos were amazing and the price points are great. Yessir! Tanner Smiths was found through Yelp and was definitely a treasure. We [co-workers] visited this establishment to celebrate the acceptance of one of our own into UConn for their MBA. Our party arrived around 4:45. The decor was great and coalesced smoothly with the menu items. Charlie Chaplin was playing on the screen and garnered a few chuckles. We stayed upstairs until the downstairs portion with additional seating opened up at 5. We ordered some apps and drinks. The food was top notch and the drinks were just how I like them, strong enough to put hair on your chest. Came with a decent sized group for a birthday brunch on a weekend afternoon. Restaurant is quite large, with great ambience and neat decor throughout the entire space. Great for large groups; as service was excellent and food came out pretty quickly. What we ordered: - Brussel sprout hash - basically exactly what it sounds like. Shredded seasoned brussel sprouts with a sunny side egg on top. Nothing super fancy about it, but was surprisingly very flavorful. - Mac & Cheese - Neat presentation, as it was served in a rectangle and had fried onions on top. We came here for drinks before dinner on a Monday night, and Brendan took great care of us at the bar. Of the drinks, the most interesting presentation was the Smoking Gun Manhattan. It's pre-batched, but it comes with a bottle filled with smoke that you combine with the drink, and it smells really good. I also liked the Hudson Duster, which used a house made clove syrup, which was interesting and overly strong. Looks like this place doesn't need my 5-star review to get up there, but here it is anyway. I arrived early for lunch yesterday and noticed the great decor. Popular sort of decor lately - a small collection of antique clocks on the wall, Edison bulbs around, brads in the stools...very nice. The menu is quite unique but has old standbys in case you're feeling classic. I ordered the veggie sandwich and fries, with no bread due to dental issues. The veggies were cooked perfectly and were so simple yet flavorful. The goat cheese was a very interesting addition. The fries were perfectly crispy and not at all greasy. I was a very happy girl! My friend ordered the brussels sprouts hash with bacon. Her food looked great and she really enjoyed it. Lunch went by too quickly! Service was excellent too, which made this a 5 as well - the owner or manager even came over to see how our meal was towards the end. Amazing appetizers!! So many options for apps, you can just make a meal out of the apps by themselves. We got the artichoke sun dried tomato dip, which was absolutely delicious! And they bring you tons of crostinis to go with it, which most places skimp on. I also got the falafel sliders for my meal which were very good, but they're more in a hum-bao type consistency bun rather than a burger bun. Still will definitely be back!
