Sometimes our friends KNOW whats up. And boy did my friend Eddy from Eddy and Dave's Garage know where to send me when I was having problems with my car. I've had the same issue with my car for the past 2 years that happened intermittently where my car would lose power for a few seconds while driving, then catch again. Usually happened on the freeway. Really unnerving. Been to the dealership a bunch of times, only to pay an arm and a leg for "other" stuff they found, but never the real problem. When I'd address the problem, they would (in so many words) call me crazy. Fast forward 2 years. My friend Eddy refers me over to Richard from Tano's Auto Service, saying that he's pretty damn awesome and that when they cant figure something out, he's the guy that THEY turn to. The owner, Richard, had it figured out in two visits. He told me the first time that it could be one of two problems. He fixed the first, more affordable issue, and when it still had symptoms, fixed the later. Turned out to be a breaking fuel pump. Anyway, I'm rambling... Long story short: Richard is the bomb. He's very knowledgeable, fast, keeps you informed, and very affordable! He does specialize in European cars (Volvo, VW, Mercedes, etc.) so if you've got one of those, he knows his way around them like a surgeon. This guy is the real deal. My car hasn't run this well in two years. He's got a small business (just he and his wife), so hey... Yelp community... let's keep these little guys going especially the ones we know are HONEST and ETHICAL and do VERY GOOD WORK. If there was a way for me to give him more than 5 stars... I THANKFULLY found Richard from TANOS when my VW broke and I needed it repaired that day. I was previously an unhappy customer of AUTO PROS on Main St. (Previously Walter's VW) who lies to customers claiming they need things they don't....and then overcharges! Richard is the most knowledgable VW Mechanic (30 yrs) and the MOST HONEST & ETHICAL Mechanic I have ever known and as a woman that is so important.. I trust him completely......he will fix the smallest of things and he is VERY REASONABLY PRICED. Richard shows you the old parts (Auto Pros Never did that) I will Never go anywhere else to fix my car because I know he will FIX IT RIGHT the first time! If you need a mechanic like this, Go See Richard, you'll be glad you did! I was having a problem with the smell of gas in my bug and before I found Tanos, brought it to Autopros....They didnt listen to me when I told them in detail what the problem was after researching it on the internet and it didn't get fixed. Shortly after that I found Tanos. After he fixed something else and when I was leaving I told Richard about the gas smell and what happened at Autopros and while parked in the street he got in the trunk to see what was happening and fixed the gas problem and even tho I told him I would fix it next time, he said he was concerned and fixed it anyways as I was parked on the curb and didnt even charge me! So grateful for Tano's! This mechanic is very reliable and saved my Beetle! I've taken my Beetle to him 3 times for transmission service and a partial engine swap. Don't know how I haven't done a review for Tano's yet. I have been taking my 72 VW bus to Richard for years he rebuilt my engine and has pretty much taken care of every little problem that has come along. He stands by his work too... we had a problem with the rebuild something wrong with a part and completely out of his control and he fixed it for free. I went through a lot of bad mechanics between when I bought my bus and when we found Richard. He is Honest, Knowledgeable, and reasonably priced...What more could you ask for? read more

I found Tano's through Yelp and I'm so glad I did. I had a pretty bad water pump leak and was quoted $700 (and that's with a "discount") at a shop where I normally take my car for repairs. I did some research and found Tano's, from the moment I called Richard to ask questions he was very helpful, knowledgeable and he quoted me a much lower price than what I was given at the other place. Also, he said hes been working on VW's for 30 years, why wouldn't I want to leave Peggy with him? I set up an appointment for that weekend and after a full day of work she was good to go and purrs like a kitten. Can't believe this guy, i had my 2009 Porsche service here, referred by my bro. After took the car home, the shop never reset my car. I contacted him ,we need to set up time for him to do it, I live in LA and he is in Orange. On the way there called him , he said he has NO TIME,bring it tomorrow. Who fault is this? I've got an older VW.. a '73 ghia.. and I originally bought some parts from my friends over at Eddy & Dave's and they referred me over to Tano to get the part installed. I've gone back to Tano whenever I've had issues with my car. He's always there when I have a question or a problem. I made the mistake of panicking over something that broke recently. I didn't want to take time off work and went to a different place out of convenience and ended up paying out the nose for shoddy work that Tano then had to go back in and fix. My review is really simple. The Volvo dealership wanted over $800 to replace the motor on my trunk that stopped working. They claimed the reason it was so expensive was because the motor was expensive. I decided to call Tanos on a Saturday morning to get a quote after reading the yelp reviews and they only wanted about $100 bucks total! This included the motor! The mechanic for Tanos drove to the Volvo dealership himself to pick up the motor on the same day and replaced the motor in under 4 hours. He didn't even charge me for driving to the dealership to pick up the motor. Best service ever! read more

Brought my 2002 vw GTI to have my rear calipers checked out because I was having a big ass break fluid leak. It got to the point that I was unable to break. In addition to these issues, I was also having a problem with my E break not working. Richard and myself discussed the issue and he quotes me on the cost of the caliper and gives me an estimate of what it would be if it needed replacement. Come the next day he calls me and tells me that my car is ready. Fast work! You can't imagine how much I had missed driving this little hatch Richard. Fantastic work. Ricardo is absolutely honest and a GREAT car mechanic. He has installed CV boots, brakes, AC hoses and some electrical work. Not only does he do the work in a timely manner, but he does it right the first time and is extremely reasonable with his prices. He can work on any car, but specializes in VW's and Porches. Went to get my car checked here my own oil light was coming on he told me it was that they had used the wrong oil when they made an oil change and filter was the wrong size he said I needed to get oil flushed out a couple times and use synthetic oil I took to the dealership they change the oil one time the car was good no light anymore so he was halfway right decent guy cheap prices although he did want to do a couple oil changes instead of just one read more
