Title: Britt Goes Bat Shit Crazy Place: Tao Foot Spa Date: July 15th 2017 Soft spoken & non confrontational are words that describe me well. But as it turns out I do have the ability to transform into a Jersey Housewife! Yes, this is Britt & No, my Yelp account has not been hacked. My appt was booked in advance for a 90 minute foot massage. I arrived a few minutes early & gave explicit instructions to the receptionist & masseuse about the type of massage I wanted. More feet than legs, no foot slapping, only 15 minutes on my shoulders & neck. No arms, no scalp, and no lower back. I also made it crystal clear that I wanted a soothing relaxing experience, nothing deep on my neck & shoulders. All I wanted to do was relax. I was so excited!!! As I sat on the ottoman soaking my feet, my masseuse started on my neck & shoulders & it felt so good I was getting goosebumps! Dream land here I come. He abruptly stops-what is happening & why is he just walking away? Why did he leave me? I sat for 10 minutes, alone, in confusion, and getting more and more aggravated. He didn't even say goodbye to me. That was the quickest quickie I ever had! Five minutes??? Something is going on.... The receptionist & another masseuse approach me & told me that my original masseuse was only a temporary fill in until my real masseuse showed up. When I arrived I spent quite a few minutes going into detail of the specifics of my massage, and unfortunately, none of my requirements were passed on to the new guy who couldn't even make it to work on time. I thought my 90 minutes would start from this point. No, it started from the moment I sat in the chair, even if I only had five minutes of massage & I sat alone at this point for 15 minutes. I decided to give the new guy a chance. Things began getting problematic when he dug his elbow into my shoulder & I said ouch, that hurts. I only wanted a soothing massage because I wanted to zone out & unwind. Did he think I was into pain? My neck & shoulder area were tender for the next three days. I told him to stop. He said ok but continued elbowing me! He did not understand one word of English & I was not given one of those cards that say, hard, soft, faster etc. I stood up & moved myself to the reclining chair. I prayed he can relax me & give me what I want. Hey, a girl can dream right? When I thought it couldn't get any worse it did. I can't believe for one single minute this guy is licensed. He starts on my left foot. He seemed obsessed with my toes & started scratching them with his long nails, so gross. Again I asked him to stop. He said ok. He just continued to do what he wanted. I said screw this & I won't sit here submissivly in his torture chair & I was getting angrier by the second & I started thinking of a way to escape. While he was doing something painful on my leg, I stood up & walked out without even wiping my feet off. Usually during these foot massages we are in la la land. Our eyes covered & in a land far away from reality. My girlfriend who was also getting a massage saw me walk out & waved. Clearly she was not enjoying her massage either if she was sitting there people watching. This is a foot spa not Starbucks & she looked wide awake. Somethings wrong, definitely wrong. I approached the receptionist & asked to speak to an owner or manager. They didn't have a mgr on-site & the owner was on vacation. She asked me to tell her about my experience since it was obvious I was about to explode at any minute. I asked her to talk to me privately, either outside or in an office. I didn't want the other people waiting for their massages to hear my story. She said no & then I went off on her. She was the one responsible for not communicating my requirements to the 2nd masseuse. She didn't care that I was upset & she just shrugged & said the owner will call me on Monday. So rude not to mention unprofessional. This is the part where I go bat shit crazy & turn into a Jersey Housewife. I wouldn't shut up, I gave her every little detail (using bad words) that I experienced. I gave her the opportunity to have a private chat with me, so if her customers witnessed this, it's her fault. I left my number & asked her to have the owner call me once she comes back from vacation. I refused to pay since I didn't receive the service I booked except for the 1st 5 minutes with the first masseuse. I may or may not have told her to F off when she attempted to charge me. I am not one to ever skip out on paying & if she didn't like it I may or may not have offered to call the police for her. I received a call from the owner within a few hours. She offered me a free massage & thanked me for letting her know what goes on in her spa when she is away. She told me that 2 of her 18 therapists were good. Really? Two out of 18? Are you kidding me??? Of course I declined her offer. They allowed a lady to enter the spa with her dog. Only in Boca right? I won't be back, the place is a joke. read more

This cannot be the same place where I had such a relaxing, quality foot massage before! I booked my foot massage online and in "comments" specified I wanted a strong massage. The woman who gave me my massage had the limpest hands ever! The touch was so soft I could barely feel her hands. The experience was not relaxing or enjoyable at all. As a matter of fact, sitting there with my eyes wide open, waiting for it to be over just gave me more anxiety! Also, when you book a foot massage, shouldn't it be a foot massage and not a half fast lame body massage? I sat on the stool and the woman had me lean forward. She's massaged my back through a towel for almost a half hour until I told her to stop. She then sat me in the chair and weakly massaged my arms. My cat gives me a better massage when she mushes me! Granted, the timing of the massage was not the woman's fault. While sitting there and watching everyone else get their massages, it seemed that that was the way all the massages were done. Yes, lately many foot massages I have had are started (or ended) with 10-15 minutes of a shoulder or back rub, but over a half hour is ridiculous. Maybe I just happen to have gotten the worst massage technician there. However, my friend who was was with me also had a horrible experience. She walked and I really should have done the same. The ladies in the front took $10 off my massage but were generally unapologetic. When originally I walked in they did not smile, gave no greeting, and briskly asked if I had an appointment. This place not only need to learn how to give a proper massage but customer service skills as well! read more

I have been going to TAO since they opened. I feel like the quality of service has gone down hill step by step over the years. First of all, I don't think anyone should have to pay ahead of time Prior to service. Additionally I don't think you should be required to leave a tip ahead of time while paying in advance. A tip is based on the quality of service you receive afterwards. I go to another place in Deerfield with the same pricing but feel like I get much more value for the price and I have no problem giving a $20 tip on a $35.hour massage after the service has been provided. They do not require payment in advance or tip itn advance no matter what time of the day.They also have a punch card which gives you a free one hour service after X amount of massages. I personally will be inclined to go back to the Deerfield location based on the service and quality of service at TAO. read more

After scheduling appointments for foot and body massages online, we arrived early and were told to sit and wait. My sister asked if Tony was working because we remembered that he did a good job last time. The receptionist said he would be available in 10 minutes. Three people arrived after us and a different person working in the reception area took them to the private areas that we were waiting for. We were then told that no private space was available for us and we would have to be in the public space, where foot massages are given with no privacy, which was not what we requested or were prepared for. If the 2 people at the desk communicated better with one another, this would not have occurred and we would not have left disappointed. Best foot reflexology and massage establishment I've ever been to! EVERYTIME I am in South Florida, I make a weekly appointment (usually the same day) for the 85-minute full body massage. I've had a number of different people work on me and I've never been disappointed. I often tell them light pressure because the light pressure is still pretty hard. You are walked to the back, sit down and you soak your feet for about 10 minutes. While soaking, your shoulders and neck are worked on. Afterwards, you lay down on a (really) comfortable recliner and the rest of your back is massaged, then your arms, lower legs and finally your calfs and feet! You will notice everytime you go AT LEAST one person is snoring because it feels that good! Anyone in need of relaxation in a beautiful and CLEAN establishment... Come to Tao! I have been coming to this place for over 7 years and today was extremely disappointing. It should be COMMON COURTESY for visitors to silence their cell phones but they don't have any sort of sign or anything reinforcing people to SILENCE their phones. I had a woman next to me today who's phone was going off NON -STOP for over half of the massage and nothing was done about it. All the woman at the front desk said was "sorry". I understand this happens every once in a while but more often than not here! I am a "regular" I tip very well and this was not the first time this has happened there. I use to go here once or twice a month. I have not been there in about 6-8 months. I'm not sure if it's new owners or just a whole new staff. I asked for a little more time on my legs n feet than back. My back massage was good not great not to mention maybe 5-8 minutes. Then when the gentleman started on my feet it was ridiculous. Did NOT massage them at all just touched each toe for 35 minutes. My husband the same thing. Then I go to pay . If you book on line you get 10% off. Nope had no idea. Cheaper to go for a pedicure and get a real leg n foot massage. Place is not what it used to be. You can't even relax because they are moving furniture around the whole time also. First of all the receptionist was so rude. She didn't even greet us when we walked in. We scheduled a massage for a party of 5 and my aunt said she wanted a guy to do her massage and the receptionist just looked at her crazy. The massage wasn't too bad but we all had different experiences. My aunt said he wasn't strong enough but she couldn't find the card to indicate otherwise, especially when they cover your eyes as you're laying down. My mom, the guy put way too much pressure on her neck and now she hurts. She felt awkward about saying it hurt so we are definitely going to go somewhere else before we fly back to Texas to rectify that. Also the massages were so freaking dry!!!!!! Like can't they use more lotion? It just felt rough. After it was done, the masseuse didn't even come out to walk us out when we left or anything. I had my first and only massage here about 8 months ago. Yes, that's a long time to wait to submit a review, but I do remember the experience well, and I've sorta-kinda already written it in my head. This establishment is one I drive by almost daily, as it's in my hood and on the way to Mizner Park. Parking can be a challenge on Palmetto Park Road, and while they do have a private lot directly behind their shop, it can fill quickly. Do NOT park in lots near them which are not associated with them - you'll be towed. Not good! I had read rave reviews on Yelp and was curious what was going on in there. So Den and I checked them out one afternoon. They were busy when we arrived around 5, and since we wanted two concurrent massages for an hour each (was it 50 minutes?), we had to return in about 3 hours. Not a problem, we literally live 5 minutes from here. Let me tell you a bit about Vicky. She oversees the appointment setting process, and from my discussion with her, I'm certain she is more than an employee/manager, and likely an owner or partner. She had a presence about her, a almost regal demeanor. Smartly dressed with sharp Boca-worthy jewelry. She engaged me in conversation, asking questions to elicit responses which would allow her to "size me up". She and I were sort of flirting, or at least coming close to it. Of course, I knew what she was doing, so I was cautious how much information I shared, but played along. When she told me, after holding (massaging) my hands and remarking that I had "very very soft skin" and must be "very successful in life", and that "I treated myself well" I was laughing hysterically. I did share that I was retired, lived 5 minutes away, was not a snowbird, and that the wife she wondered about didn't exist, but the hot guy waiting outside was my shy husband of 40+ years. That intrigued her more, so much so that she got up from the reception desk and went outside to talk with him. Or rather, attempt to convince him to have me buy a package of 10 massages, while complimenting him on his even softer hands (I said "he uses expensive body lotion daily) and his diamond ring and diamond stud. The massage process was as described by other reviewers: Being walked into a dark room, soft relaxing music, feet soaking in the wooden tub while sitting up, reclining in a leather lounger, actual foot massage, and then neck and shoulder massage. I appreciated it all, especially that the terrible knots in my neck melted away after rigorous massage. But here are my concerns , which support my 3 star review: 1- was that wooden bucket of warm water properly cleaned after each foot soaking? Or was I potentially exposed to whatever fungal crap the prior client(s) had? 2- the massage person smelled of cigarettes. It is not unusual to see the massage guys on their break either in front of, behind in parking lot, or in the alley smoking cigarettes on their breaks. (See accumulated butts on ground near the chairs where they hang out) 3- the soft music was so monotonous and while it intended to be soothing it annoyed me (my issue, not theirs) 4- the massage guy was too rough on my neck and shoulders. Ever since this massage, I have a problem with my shoulder which I did NOT have before. I directly attribute it to this massage, and my orthopedist is supportive of this assessment. 5- was the towel placed over my face while I was reclining on the lounge chair CLEAN? Was it re-used? I still shutter at the thought of it having been on someone else's face minutes before being placed on mine. 6- the loud snoring of those who fell asleep was distracting. They should have been gently slapped or shaken awake. I'm not into snoring. Frankly, I'm just not into being in a large dark room with my face covered with a potentially unclean towel listening to snoring, monotonous soothing music, slapping sounds from the massage therapists. It's a bit too much. From more recent reviews I note that you are now given a set of cards to hold up to inform your massage therapist as to how strong or weak you wish their touch. After thinking this would make for a good Saturday a Night Live sketch, I concluded it was a good idea and likely grew out of the reality that the massage therapists spoke no English and understood even less, despite their smiling and head nodding when being spoken to. And some Boca guy or woman may have threatened to sue after getting a dislocated shoulder. I gave a 25% tip. And haven't returned. And I always wonder, for a few seconds, when I drive by, whether Vicky is telling some mature gentleman like myself how soft his hands are or successful in life he is, and what rap she gives to the spoiled rotten 16-18 year old girls who show up in groups for massage parties. Fellow yelp friend Sean M.'s was the one that initiated my interest when reading his review. Mind you, I live all the way in Weston, so I was very intrigued and there was much anticipation . I'll start off by saying how impressed I am with the prices; $37 for 60 min.?! Those are the kind of deals that you find on Groupon! They also had me at "walk-ins allowed". I came in straight from work on my half day so it felt great to just drive over on my own time, or just come in whenever I REALLY need it. The receptionist was nice, and even though they seemed overstaffed (thurs.around 2pm), I was immediately brought to the inside "quiet" room. I was so relieved when they brought out a hot soaking bucket for my feet (sneakers wet from work does not go well with sense of smell lol). Now, all the massages I've had, included SOME form of pain. And I've always been excepting of it. But my masseuse digged his elbow in and was kneeding my back like preparing dough, and it was probably the best I have ever had, with no pain--interesting. All my arm rubs have been "weak" in the past and this was just on cloud 9. My hands have always been neglected as well and he took time to get those pressure points in. Here is where it fell short on 5 stars. I know massage therapy takes a lot of physical work, I give them sooo much credit. And in this case, it showed with my masseuse. Once he got to the feet (main reason why I came), he got tired, he didn't put as much thought or care. I never had to use my "slower, faster, harder, softer" card until here, pointing at the "slow down". I could tell he was getting bored. What I also didn't favor was being seated on the ottoman. I have no problem NOT laying down, but there was no support on my chest/stomach, so I ended up slouching in the seat, which bad posture kind of defeats the purpose of caring for the back per say. And I used my hands to hold me up straight so that I don't move forward while massaged. On a side note, I've never felt comfortable with a male massaging, and this has been the 1st time. Even though this isn't of a private room, I find it to be beneficial so you can be fully clothed and it allows having a male do my massages. read more

Oh man every time I come here for a massage it's such a treat. Today was just amazing! Fay (the wonderful lady who massaged me) was fantastic. I had a lower back pain as we went in, and I did not mention anything to her. She must be very knowledgeable about the body because after she rubbed my shoulders she went to my lower back. She applied just the right pressure on my back and massaged it so well that my pain was going away little by little. She also had me do a spinal twist which felt so delicious and released some more stress. Once it was time to lay down I was so relaxed that I went into a meditation state as she kept massaging my feet and legs. I did not want the massage to be over. Fay was just awesome! Been here a million times but today was enough to make me never return. Went with two others for a 25 min foot massage. We had an appointment. When we arrived, we were waiting in the waiting room and a young man at the counter kept speaking very softly and cussing. I didn't know if he was speaking to us, so we just ignored him. After waiting for five minutes, he told me that they were about to lose power and that I needed to pay for my service immediately. I've been to this place several times and have never paid prior to getting a massage. I told him that I've never paid before and that I understood if the power was gonna go out, the credit card machine wouldn't work, but that I had cash, and would be able to pay in cash after we receive the service. He acted as if that would be OK for a minute, but then decided all of a sudden that they don't take cash. When I questioned why I would pay for a service if they were going to lose power, and we were not going to be able to receive the service, he told me that they would not be starting any new services right now. I said that was fine and turned around to leave, and as we were leaving, he cussed at us. I've had great experiences here for years, I've been to the old location and the new. I was first introduced to this foot spa with my sister a few years ago. It was a nice, relaxing atmosphere and good experience. Yesterday my husband and I booked an 85 minute appointment at 2:30. They brought us in 5 minutes late (no big deal) but then had us both face down rubbing our back, butt and legs until 3:22! Not what we wanted at all! And the foot massage was awful. The location is difficult to find unless you put it into navigation or already know where it is, as it's nestled among other stores and buildings. There's a small parking lot where I've never had an issue finding a spot. Once you walk in, you're politely greeted by the receptionist and sign in. While you wait, you can have some water or play with a mini zen garden (sans sand). Eventually, you're taken through a big door into a very quiet and relaxing room filled with nice seats. On my most recent visit, I had Chris as my masseuse. He did an excellent job and massages me JUST hard enough, but didn't go overboard. I almost always without fail fall asleep as the massage is just so relaxing. At $36 for an hour massage, the price is really good for what you're getting. I opted for the 90 min combo for $75.00 and asked Emma to focus on my lower back. She did an amazing job and I have to say my pain is now gone. (We shall see how I feel tomorrow). I have been to Tao many, many times and lately I have been pleased with all the people I have had. I highly recommend it here. Made an appointment for 3 people and when we arrived they only scheduled for 2. Drove 45 minutes and one person had to wait 30 minutes for a 30 min appt while the other 2 went. The 30 minute appt was probably more like 20 minutes. I want to give this place 5 stars, but I just cant, and let me tell you why. YOU CAN GET SICK ! First off, the masage itself is amazing. Well worth the money and absolutely done well. Both times I have visited I was well relaxed and loved my massage. The problems lie in a couple places. One, I have gotten SICK both times I visited. The first time, I didnt really think much of it as I got a cold right after leaving there, even though I noticed most of the people giving massages were coughing, sneezing and clearing their throats. The second time I noticed my masseuse was clearing his throat and coughing. Ive now been sick for 10 days since I visited. I am positive it was from all the sick employees working on you because they are so close and share so much space in the only massage room. Being sick is NEVER worth a good massage and they shouldnt allow their employees to continue to work so close to people when such a huge portion of them are coughing, sniffling and SICK. Send them home untill they are better ! Other things, the receptionist is hot and cold. Ive called and talked to her in person and shes been both pleasant to me and rude to me. Never exceptionally nice. Dont catch her in a bad mood. In my opinion that ruins the start of your experience and isnt good. You also HAVE to tip in cash. This isnt a big deal if they would give you change from a debit card at the desk, but they dont and instead make you use their ATM machine for a hefty charge. You can not leave a tip on your debit or credit card. Stay clear of this place untill they start sending sick employees home. read more

Updating my review. When I came back, front desk was certainly sweeter and friendlier. Definite perk that they speak Vietnamese. Ben, who I previously had and adored wasn't available. I asked them for a referral on who they thought would be great and they told me Louis. He was perfect!!!!!! This'll be my ongoing person for sure.
