Only word for this place is a scam. My fiancé I got 2 free gift certificates to the spa so we decided to try it. The massage was whatever. Certainly not reflexology, more just rubbing lotion on your feet and legs. Here's the best part, when we finish and go to pay with our gift certificates (that have the address and Tao foot spa on them) the girl at the desk tells us she can't honor them because they don't have the gift certificate numbers in their "system" (which their system is just a bunch of old notepads). The girl at the desk says she (for whatever reason) can only give us "half-price", aka only pay for 1 massage with both certificates. I ask for a manager or owner but I'm told no one like that is there. So reluctantly I pay $36 for one massage and $20 in tip and we head out. Minutes later I get a call from the front desk girl telling me the certificates with the Boca address on them are for the Fort Lauderdale store and I need to come back, pick up the certificates, and pay them another $36 for the other massage. I obviously told her no I'm not doing that, they can keep the certificates, our transaction was over. THEN she says well can I just charge your care for the $36? I explicitly tell her NO she has no permission to charge my card, she argues and eventually hangs up with me. I fear I have not heard the last of this place. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS. IT IS A SCAM. I also never saw any massage therapist licenses anywhere in the place and have my own questions about the legitimacy of their employees. I am letting the Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce be aware of this as well. UPDATE: A couple days after posting this review, the owner called me and apologized for the horrific service that I was treated with. She explained to me the gift certificate situation and that it was a problem for them not a problem for me and that if she was there, she would've accepted the gift certificates without issue. She also apologized for the front desk girl trying to recharge me and let me know she was firing her and offered my fiancé and I the chance to come back to the spa, on her, which we declined. It was nice to know that the owner cares and hopefully they'll hire better staff and train them more effectively in the future. read more

I JUST had an out of body experience. I get regular massages at a massage place; however, this foot salon caters to your tootsies (and neck and shoulders) leading one in my opinion, to nirvana. It's my birthday today 6/27, so it was a wonderful gift that will definitely bring me back for not only myself, but for gift certificates and gift options for others in my life. The facility is very clean, comfortable and an extremely Zen-like atmosphere. The room was the perfect temperature; NOT too cold, NOT too warm...like Goldilocks said, "Just right"! A blanket was draped across my legs enveloping me in coziness which was presented in a reclining leather chair. Prior to this service, my feet were placed in a lined (for hygienic purposes) basket of warm water to soak while the knots in my neck and shoulder were released of their tension. It was truly delightful to the point that the 30 minute total experience led me to an automatic smile on my face leaving me content yet, also yearning for it to never end and the wanton feeling of wishing to exclaim out loud, "MORE please"! AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!! A friend recommended this place and swore by it. I just had to try it out myself and sure enough it was wonderful. For $35 you get a full treatment for an hour. You walk in and are taken into a dark room with very calming music. You sit down and they give you a shoulder massage and a neck rub. Then the fun part. You sit on a lounge chair and the foot massage begins. It was so peaceful. I will absolutely come back. I wish they had monthly packages! read more

WOW WOW WOW! I just got home from Tao and I felt compelled to write a review. I've been to plenty of spas, including the Red Door and paid much more than the $35 hour rate that Tao charges. I have never had a better time with my clothes on! Went with 3 friends from work in the late afternoon. We had made a prior reservation. They do take walk in's but I would recommend making a reservation to ensure service. When you walk in you are offered a cold beverage, either wine or water and then you are ushered in to a very dimly lit room with about 15 large leather loungers. You are brought a basket with warm water to soak your feet in while you are expertly massaged on your neck, shoulders and back. This lasted about a half hour and would have been worth the $35 just for that. After that is over you are placed back in your chair and leaned all the way back to a reclining position and the next half hour is spent in foot and leg bliss. I hope this place doesn't catch on, because I want to keep it my little secret! read more

This is not for those who want gentle touches or swedish massage or privacy (clothes stay on) If you are looking for a true reflexology experience or enjoy deep tussue massage & myofascial release type massage then you will become addicted to Tao Foot Spa. Warning: your skin will be slightly punched and slapped. When I first heard the description of this place I was hoping it was exactly like my favorite place in China Town. Let me warn you this place is cleaner and fancier. Lots of fresh fluffy towels used. Upon entering I sat down at entrance. I was then hand escorted through a dark room filled with huge extra comfy leather recliners and matching foot rests. I was offered water or wine. (They forgot to bring to me) All others had huge glass filled. The foot therapist will work on your neck, back, arms, and hands as your feet soak. Then he will work on your legs and feet deeply and vigorously and with both hands for a full 60 minutes. No spa nonsense of ending 10 minutes early and starting late. Wonderful experience. You will wish you can take them home. While I was there a man was asleep snooring and a second therapist came over masaged his head and he stopped in two seconds!! I brought a friend with me. When you lay face down your head is in a hole with a small towel there not very sanitary -then he wanted me to take my shirt off in a room full of other people! This was an interesting first for me. I've only ever gotten a professional foot massage once in my life, and it was at a tiny little nail salon that offered a little foot massage before the pedicure...that counts. But anyway, this place is really zen. When you're led into the main room, it's very dim and very quiet except for the meditation music playing in the background and sounds of several foots, backs, and shoulders being pounded. Once you're seated at one of the 18 or so reclining lounge chairs, your masseur greets you, asks if you want a hard or soft massage, and proceeds to massage your shoulder, back, arms, and hands for about 15 mins or so before moving on to your feet. It's nice that they also cover you with a large towel and cover your eyes with a smaller towel as you're lying down while they massage your feet. I think the whole thing lasts about 45 mins. Would I try it again? Sure. Who doesn't like to be pampered once in a while? If you're one of those people who just don't like being intimately touched by strangers (in a safe zone like a spa), I'm not sure this experience will change your mind. I came in not sure what services were offered and wanting to get a massage on my hamstrings. I was surprised to find out the price was only $35 For a one hour relaxing back and foot rub session. They have a great massage card system that you can use to easily tell the masseuse to go faster, slower, harder, or softer. My shoulder and back massage were fantastic. The masseuse had very strong hands and occasionally used his elbows to really get out the tough knots. I also liked that the shared (which was surprising) room was very quiet and no cell phones were allowed to be on. This was a great experience and I definitely think for the price it was something I would indulge in very frequently if I lived here. read more

I called and made an appointment for me and my mom for her birthday. I told the receptionist I wanted two female therapists and when I got there my request was granted. My therapist was Jenny. We waited a little inside the front desk area and then someone escorted us to the big open room where the massages happen. Really beautiful and the music was lovely. We were told to keep our phones on silent, which is great that they enforce that because it would be really distracting and disrupt the peacefulness of the experience. Jenny was awesome!! I didn't use the cards people were talking about in the reviews, but she really did an amazing job and worked a while on my shoulders and back. I didn't even need to ask her to use more pressure, she just automatically used the right amount I enjoy the most. She used moderate to deep pressure and I was in heaven. She even used her elbows deep into my back at some points, which I loved. She also did some stretches which also felt wonderful. When she worked on my feet, she used the right amount of pressure then too and I was so relaxed I felt like I was going to fall asleep. They cover your eyes with a little towel which adds to the relaxtion. I will definitely be back. I made sure to tip her a 18-20% amount if it was 70/80 dollars, because that's what a regular 1 hour massage usually goes for. They work hard so I make sure to tip well :) read more

As my first time to a foot massage place, I was pleasantly surprised. My friend and I arrived before our scheduled time and were offerred a glass of wine and taken quickly back. You enter a din quiet room that is open and includes all guests receiving their treatments too. We were taken to our chairs and provided a warm bath to soak our feet in. Meanwhile they rub your shoulders and back before getting to the feet. Once your feet are removed your reclined backwards and covered with a cozy towel. The masage was amazing. I have heard wonderful things about all these foot spas popping up around here in South Florida, I work in Boca and Tao is a couple blocks from my job. I luckily got an appointment right after work for 1 hour $36! I had Denny, and let me tell you...he was amazing. I started with a foot bath while he rubbed my shoulders, neck, arms, and hands for 30 mins. I was jello just after that. Then I layed in a reclining chair while Denny massaged my lower legs and feet for the remaining time. It was the best, most relaxing surprise Ive had in awhile. They give you a card to show the therapist who is working on you, if you want it slower, faster, deeper, or lighter. I never had to use mine because Denny was perfect! Im definitely going back! If you have bad shoulders or back issues, you might find , like me, that the position they first sit you in or the movements that they do with your arms/shoulders, might not be in your best interest. It was my first time coming here with my daughter, it seemed busy and when we walked in, we were greeted nicely but it was a very awkward experience as the guy on the computer did not see my reservation he took from me. The young lady and him went back and forth to figure out what happened and we were standing there so confused. On the phone when he took my reservation I didn't understand him well and had to repeat myself. I'm not sure how fluent he is in English, but they ended up taking us in. I've been here at least 4-5 times and have always been super happy with the service! My husband & I went together on a Friday around 5p and had the worst experience. It was super crowded & a lot of noise. The guy massaging my husband sneezed on me & my husband about 3 times &didn't cover his mouth. We are both in the medical field and were completely disgusted. I have to say, I was so excited that my sister was excited to share this experience with me, however, walking in I did have a few concerns... When we walked in I smelled something a bit funky but my sister, jokingly told me that it was just 'feet' that I was smelling. I figured it was just the oil or lotion that they use and I would get used to it. We were asked to wait outside because they do not have a waiting room...no big deal. We sat at a little bistro table they had and someone came out to offer us some tea or water. We both opted for the bottled water. We were then called in and escorted into a dark room...it took a minute or two for my eyes to adjust and all I could hear was some soothing music playing and the sound of 'slapping'. I immediately thought, what did my sister get me into! But that's when it happened...the magic! I was seated on what I think was an ottoman and this 'mystery man' had me put my feet into a lined tub filled with warm water. I call him the mystery man because through this entire experience I never saw his face! He then began with an upper body massage. Such pleasure and pain! He has hands of gold. He was a little rough, but I have a tendency to be full of knots so I didn't say anything and enjoyed the back, neck and arm massage. Then out of no where he started doing a karate chop on my back. I thought 'ok, it's working, weird, but it's working'. I was then motioned to sit in this nice big cozy reclining chair, all the while, I still never saw his face! Once comfortably positioned in the chair, he placed a blanket/towel over my body and covered my eyes with a towel. Mystery man then proceeded to work his magic on my feet. He must have hit every pressure point possible. I think this is where I lost consciousness for a few minutes. I felt every ounce of stress being released from my body. I was quickly brought back to a conscious state by the sound of a soft snore. Now I'm not saying it was my sister, but she was in the chair next to me. Coincidence? Maybe! For about the next 30 minutes my feet and calves were in heaven! And then he did it...he punched me! Not an angry punch, but what I like to refer to as a therapeutic punch. Didn't hurt and felt wonderful! Again, I think I lost consciousness. When mystery man was finished with me he said 'ok lady'! I thought really? All I get is 'ok lady'...I almost giggled but I controlled myself. When I took the towel off of my eyes, he was gone, vanished into thin air. No help getting off the chair or anything, poof...he was gone! He was also forgiven, after all, he just spent the past 60 minutes making me feel so relaxed, I couldn't hold a grudge. Who was this mystery man that caused this pain and pleasure? I think they call him 'Paul'. Would I use him again, absolutely! Would I be able to pick him out of a line up, heck no! This was....different. You are taken into a dark room with a lot of other people. the foot massage actually started with me sitting up and getting a neck, back, shoulder massage (that I really needed). Next you lay back in a chair and you are covered in a blanket and you get an eye mask (washcloth?) that helps you relax and block out everything that is going on. The bad thing is, when your eyes are closed your sense of hearing is heightened (at least mine is) so you here all of the slapping that is going on around you. They ask you to silence cell phones however some people did not so I spent half the massage listening to people's text tones. WHen I get a massage I prefer to be in a private room but this was different and if you are looking for a way to relax for an hour this fits the bill. read more

I'm sorta speechless right now coming from my 2nd experience at Tao. The therapist I had was Jeff. This experience was much more reflexology then my first time here one week ago. I've never experienced anything like this before. It was so good I almost shed a tear and I'm not joking. I have no clue where this guy was trained. I'm thinking some small remote corner of the world like in the mountains of Tebet with monks walking around everywhere. There were times when I was in pain but it was a good pain. I literally felt every bone in each of my feet being strummed like a Mandolin. Im still speechless. Look people, if you don't try this place, there is something wrong with you. I'd give 6 stars if I could. Everyone seemed great. And all the guests left really happy. I actually showed up with my 90 year old grandma and 3.5 year old toddler. I freaked when I saw how quiet and zen it was. I was going to put her in a chair and let her watch a movie. No one was rude to me that I essentially brought a toddler to a spa (thought it was more mani/pedi type). It was so chill she slept on my chest THE ENTIRE TIME. The staff was also super nice to her when she woke up, they gave her a mini massage. I was floored by this place. It's only a month old. Really great. I'm very pleased. I had a $35 special for Father's Day weekend. Normal price for 1 hour is $39. Worth every penny. Ok. I'm done now lol. read more

It's much smaller than I expected. Immediately was greeted upon entering by a very sweet lady that led me into the main room. She helped with taking my shoes off and asked if I wanted a beverage and asked for a gender preference if any. She really made me feel like I was going to be taken care of. I told her I didn't care about gender so she told me I would get a male and that he was very good. So I'm sitting on the chair waiting for my guy and he comes and asks me to sit on the square foot rest thing so he can do a back and neck massage. He had a clip for me so I can put my hair up (which is nice because a lot of places don't have that). He brought out a tub filled with hot water so I can soak my feet in during the back massage. I've never had a back massage before, but are they supposed to be squeezing your butt at one point????? I was like, "oh. Whoa. Is this a normal thing?" I felt so greasy after he massaged my neck. And since there's really no support for your front during the back massage, you keep bending down and really, that just hurt my back even more. Afterwards, he asked me to sit back on the chair and then he reclined it so I was lying down. He gave me a blanket (although I'm pretty sure it was just a big towel) and started working on my legs and feet. Wow, let me tell you, it sucked even more than the back massage. For my legs, he was just rubbing up and down with some pressure. And he did some "reflexology" on my feet, but I'm pretty sure that's just a load of bull. With reflexology, I think the therapist should be informed of what you want them to work on. I went with a few other people and we got the exact same "reflexology" and shouldn't it be accustomed for each person? We each have different problems and pains with our bodies. Also, this place is not relaxing at all! You're in one room with other people getting massages and all these therapists start doing the slapping noises at some points during their massages!! So when you're about to actually relax, there goes that slapping noise. And they don't give eye pillows and I can't relax without something covering my eyes because I just awkwardly end up shifting my eyes from one place to another - even more so because of the annoying noise. Near the end of my foot massage, the guy did something that made me really uncomfortable. He got up and started squeezing from my upper thigh to my feet and that was really unexpected. He was fairly close to my private area and that was another "oh. Whoa. Is this a normal thing?" And then he lifted my feet up and just let them drop a few times and I was just, "what the hell? Is this supposed to be relaxing or comfortable?" And afterwards, he was just "Okay, thank you. Please take this out to the front" and he handed me a ticket with his name on it and left me to get my shit and go out. Really, though. You should let the person recollect themselves first and escort them back to the front. And when I was at the front, paying, he was fairly close to me and I felt awkward so I just have him a good tip. I'm never going back here and your massage sucked, but you're standing so close to me that I feel pressured to tip well so here... ALSO, one of the friends that I went with - she was the last person to be done and she saw one of therapists in the room just flip over the towels on the chair after a customer! That's disgusting! A lot of people sweat and we were there near the end of the day so who knows how many sweaty people have been lying on the same towels we had. I was really expecting more after reading so many great reviews and considering how busy they are even though they haven't even been open that long. But it was just such a huge letdown! Really don't understand why there's so many 5-star reviews. Maybe you guys just haven't experienced a real massage yet! I was missing my regular massage therapist the whole time I was getting this crappy massage. Yes, I understand that not all massage therapists are the same, but it's kind of weird when the people I went with also did not like their massage!
