Used to love going to SALSA restaurant, but they must have changed hands or cooks because the quality sure has dropped quite a bit. Alpine has so many Mexican places to choose from- sit down and taco shops. I consistently choose Tapatios for my taco shop. It is the best one in town. I especially like their tacos, except, maybe the recipe has changed lately. Before they were an A+ now a B+ (less cheese). I like their great beans and their fair pricing. DO NOT EAT HERE!!! This place is a joke!! I'm sure most are paid reviews!! The staff here is rude and unprofessional!! We ordered a fish soup it was basically water and the fish had freeze bite and was old tasting! Also ordered other items and one of them was incorrect when asked to exchange it they made us pay for it!! We paid and I threw the other one in the trash and the new item was horrible so we ended up dumping all 3 items in the trash and did not eat anything we paid for. Tapatio's Mexican Food Restaurant got it wrong. We placed a phone order that included 2 beef taco plate. Sent my kiddo to get the order and he did not check the order before he left like we always do. Once he drove down and then back ($5.80 per gallon of gas) we realized they packed a beef taco and enchilada plate. No big deal, people make mistakes. But I called and spoke to Carlos who said he is the manager of the whole place. I explained my issue politely and asked if I could come in on another day to get it replaced. As I cannot afford to drive back. He said I need to bring the food back to the restaurant. Why? I said I would take a picture to prove the mistake was made. He said no. I needed to bring it back! Really? I asked what he was going to do with the food, he said, throw it away! Such poor customer service for their own mistake? Unbelievable. I used to live in Alpine a while back, I moved up to Northern Cali about two years ago and have been having withdrawals from all of the mexican food places that I used to know and love, especially Tapatios. They had the best breakfast burritos and I loved their salsas. The think I miss the most was their Seranno peppers and onions. Love this taco shop! There are about 10 in Alpine, and we chose this one based on all the great reviews. We haven't been disappointed yet, and come here regularly. Friendly, fast service, you can even call ahead if you're in a rush. Nice touch! Tons of options sometimes make it hard to decide what to get, but ultimately I come back to the Carne Asada or the Chile Verde burritos again and again. Their taco bowls are also great if you're watching your carbs. They've got inexpensive (and enormous!) breakfast burritos for those on a budget, but the "wet" burritos are definitely my faves. The California, with carne asada, avocado and potatoes is decidedly decadent. My husband notes that occasionally the steak can be chewy, but this is a hazard of most inexpeez steaks (blame the butcher, not the chef). Overall, we love the food here and return again and again for our Alpine burrito fix! read more

I have going here for 4 years and the food has always been top notch. Always fresh and delicious no matter what we order.. we have eaten in and taken home always the same. The people are always very friendly and appreciate you. I walk past the store almost every day walking my dog and have notice at leases couple times when walking by at least 3 employees eary in the morning before they open they are outside scrubbing the deck where you eat outside along with cleaning the table and chairs from top to bottom. If they care that much to make sure everything is clean and sanitize outside then you know this is a very clean restaurant inside and safe to eat from. All restaurants should care this much but i doubt it. read more

IT'S EDIBLE ...BUT I WOULDNT ADVISE IT ... My husband and I were heading out to the casino out there and have an Entertainment book we never use ... so we decided to get it out and came across Tapatios Mexican Grill . At first site I thought no , no , no .... but didnt have much choice since this is where we had decided on ... Before entering some ppl were eating outside and i asked them if the food was any good ... they said " yeah , its good " ... so in I went ... Upon entering I thought no, no , no ..... I dont think so .... but I was committed ... my husband was hungry and we have a coupon ... The place is really small... dark and old .... ok, so we ordered ... husband got the california burrito , which has french fries in it... made it taste like a breakfast burrito ... wasnt god awful... but the meat just didnt look right ... kinda greyish in color ... I ordered the taco , enchilada combo ... taco meat looked weird .. like it had been wet and then smashed to mold together ... it was also greyish in color and had no flavor at all ... one bite and i couldnt eat anymore of it ... the cheese in the enchilada was GOOD , however it was an inch thick .... no lie ... a heart attack on a plate ... I ate half of it .... A block of cheese in a tortilla .... hmmmmmmm The beans and the rice were a waste of space on the plate ... neither one of them had any flavor ... How do you make two items that are so simple .... have no flavor ????????????????????????? All in all ... its no surprise to say we will never visit Tapitios again ... even with a coupon it wasnt worth the 10 bucks we spent and i was a little worried about getting sick later from the strange looking meat . We were driving towards San Diego on the 8 freeway and were ready to stop for lunch. I have an Entertainment book, so I checked for places that have a coupon and also received good reviews on Yelp. Anyway.....I assumed incorrectly that this place was a sit down (with a waiter) type restaurant. It is an "order at the counter" kind of place. They have 3-4 tables inside and a handful of tables outside. The food was pretty good and the service was great! I had the Carnitas Chimichanga plate and the chimichanga was a little dry, but I ate it all (half there and half for dinner that night). The hubs had a combo plate with a taco and enchilada; he ate everything. The kids shared a cheese quesadilla and a bean & cheese burrito. Like me they ate half for lunch and took half home for dinner. Overall, I would say it's not the best & not the worst, but if we lived in Alpine, this would probably be on the restaurant rotation for our family. read more
