Tapia's offers a nice ambiance and decent facilities, but the service often falls short for our group. We usually experience long waits just to place our orders. While the salads are fresh and tasty, the lack of soup is disappointing. It would also be a huge improvement to offer real half-and-half for coffee. The service was fast and the waitress was very friendly and gave great recommendations for the menu. We sat on the patio and there were umbrellas for shade. The crab cake had a lot of meat and the crab dip had a very balanced flavor. Would definitely recommend those two items. read more

Wife and I headed out for dinner while the kids were trick-or-treating. We went to The Main Cup and were caught off guard with a sign on the door saying they were closing at 7:30 (strange for a Friday night). So we headed to Tapias on Main. We were greeted with smiling faces and sat at a nice table. Our server was extremely friendly and personable. Wife got the crab cake and I got the Osso Buco. The presentation of the crab cake was a little strange; I thought it was a baked potato rolling around on the plate. We were surprised only one crab cake came with the dinner. Well, the reason it looked like that is that it was a ball of crab meat, seemingly flash fried. When she cut into it, it was beautiful white lump crab meat. Still think there should be two of them but she thought it was delicious. My Osso Buco presentation was awesome. However, I just want to give me two cents. This was not Osso Buco; it was a big beautiful pork shank and I loved it. So my advice would be to just call it a pork shank on the menu. I think most would be attracted to that. It was a perfect day to dine outside at this establishment. Our waitress was delightful. The Italian Panini and Turkey Club Panini were delicious and on point. Both came with shoestring fries which were perfectly fried and seasoned. I ate the whole side by myself and it wasn't even my order . We also got the white pizza with bacon, basil, jalapeños, and meatballs. It was so flavorful and just enough kick. The downside was that it was a little on the greasy side. Where do I begin. We have been there 2-3 times over the last few months. The service and food has been excellent. If you like calamari, this the place to go. We have tried calamari at many places over the years and by far Tapia's is the best. It is always fresh and prepared correctly, which is difficult to do. Tapia's on Main is a great restaurant in Middletown with good food, nice casual vibes, and clean and updated decor. There's even a great outdoor patio seating with heated lamps at night. During our visit, we first ordered the special appetizer for the evening the burrata and fresh tomatoes with crusty bread and it was delicious and fresh. For our entrees, I ordered the special for the evening crab topped ravioli with Alfredo sauce which was also delicious. My husband ordered the chicken pesto pizza and he thought it was lacking a little flavor but with a little bit of Parmesan cheese and crushed red pepper it added more flavor. Although the nice touch is that the baked in brick oven so the crust comes out nice and thin. Then my mom ordered the frutti de Mari which is a fettuccini pasta with red sauce with mussels, scallops, clams and shrimp. It was definitely delicious and flavorful. Even the garlic bread and Caesar side salads we ordered were fresh. Definitely a nice place to visit and try when in the area or finding a nice romantic place to eat for a dinner for two or with a large family. read more

Small town gem! My family and I were on a Sunday drive when we happened to drive past Tapias to see how busy it was, and just absolutely needed to give it a try. Right from the start, the friendly down to earth service and comfortable outside seating gave a great impression. The menu was vast, (yet doesn't go overboard) giving plenty of options for family eating. My Cobb salad was packed with flavor, fresh ingredients and really satisfied. My daughter got a white Pizza (which I tried) that was made by someone who knows how to make a proper pizza. I'm a big fan of this restaurant for an upscale dinner in the area! They specialize in pizza and pasta dishes but they also have salad, burgers, crab cakes, and various meat and seafood options. My favorite dishes thus far have been the salmon imperial-- salmon, crab cakes, mashed potatoes, veggies, and imperial sauce YUM, seriously this one is worth it-- the gnocchi with seafood, and their pizzas! Don't miss out on a specialty cocktail either to round out the meal. We tried this new addition to Middletown last night and can't wait to go back! We started with their crab dip and calamari. Both were amazing and came out nice and hot! Our entrees were delicious and flavorful. I had the crab cake and it was a very generous portion of crab meat. Just like Maryland crab cakes should be. My husband had the chicken parm and he really enjoyed it. The sauce was very good and fresh. They have a large pizza variety and we are looking forward to going back to try that. They have a pizza and pints special on Mondays from 4pm to close with 1/2 price pizzas and $4 pints. Their beer list and cocktail menu had a great variety and featured local distilleries and breweries. The honey bourbon sour and Paloma was fantastic! I've been here a few times with family and most of the time the food and service is pretty average. This particular visit, however, was less than ideal. I ordered the NY strip steak and it was terrible. The cut was full of fat and really tough in certain parts. I ordered it medium and it came out rare. I reluctantly complained to my server (I don't usually say anything) and they only took off $4. It was a $28 steak and I barely ate any of it! What a slap in the face. I will not be returning. The only reason I'm giving it a two-star is because the mussels were alright. Do yourself a favor and go to Fratelli's half a mile down the road if you want great food and service. read more

My one teeny-tiny gripe is the ambiance...I would love to see a bit more decor and perhaps some separators (like half-walls?) so that there is less of a feeling of sitting in a large drafty warehouse. Had lunch at Tapia's. First hint, either arrive early or make reservations. We got there at 11:20 and had no issue being seated. By noon, the place was packed. I read that one of their specialties was the pizza so I ordered the Classic: pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, onions and green pepper. Plenty of toppings and cheese, nice crust, it was very good! My daughter tried the turkey panini. It looked great and she concurred. I would definitely eat here again, but I want to reiterate the likely need for reservations. We noticed this new restaurant and thought we would give it a try. I'm giving five stars because I think they are off to a good start even though I do still have a few critiques. My review includes service, facility, and food. The service was really great. The owners and others greeted us and checked on us several times; They seemed very genuine in their attempts to ensure we had a good experience. Our server Mia, was friendly, attentive, knowledgeable, and offered helpful suggestions. We ordered the Hummus 2 Ways for an appetizer, which was fine. Nothing special about it (didn't necessarily care for the edamame hummus) but also nothing wrong with it. The pieces of feta cheese were a nice addition to the platter. My BF got the Penne Arrabiata. He enjoyed it and I thought it smelled really good. I ordered the Salmon Imperial which was salmon on a bed of mashed potatoes with a crab cake on top and a side of asparagus and a piece of toast. I thought it all tasted great with the exception of subpar burnt toast/garlic bread. I would order that dish again but maybe only for a special occasion as it was around $27. As for the building, I'm a little curious to see how they handle an influx of business seeing as though there didn't seem to be a lot of parking. Their patio space looks like it will be great when it gets warm out but from what I could tell (in the dark) there were waaaaaaay more tables than available parking. I'll have to take a closer look next time we go. I also didn't particularly care for their open concept. I don't think it works and I'm not sure if it's because of the decor and other design or what exactly. I think it looks like a cross between a night time cafe and attempted fancy restaurant. Maybe it would look and feel more appealing with some nice long tables and/or some kind of separation throughout. Idk, I just know it wasn't working for me. The space felt 'off'. We drove by Tapia's for over a year before trying it. I regret waiting that long. This place is amazing. The food is incredible (the steaks and seafood are insane), the cocktails are perfect, the patio is amazing, and the service hasn't missed once. I always get the Brandy Pepper Steak for dinner, my wife loves the scallops and shrimp risotto. The pizzas make great appetizers. Wednesday is half off wine bottles. We came for lunch the other day and it was amazing too. And next door is a great gelato place for dessert. This is definitely a new local favorite for us. read more

Went on date night with my husband here the other night. Let's start with service: we were seated on the patio promptly only to be left for 15 minutes before a waitress showed up. We then ordered our drinks, and waited another 20 minutes to get them. The waitress then took our order--we put in our appetizer and our main entrees due to the long wait time we had been experiencing. 45 minutes later our appetizer came to our table with our main entrees. We ordered the charcuterie as our appetizer--the menu said "a selection of local cheeses". A total lie! We received a board with crackers, some dry almonds, and processed slices of cheese cut up. For $21 you would definitely expect more especially after being misled that you were getting "local cheeses". Our main entrees were better tasting then the charcuterie, but all around we will not be returning nor recommending this restaurant to any family & friends. read more

I just don't understand the good reviews of this restaurant. Found a gift card for Tapia's that I had stuck in a drawer. It was in a drawer because when I received it, we had already tried this restaurant several times and hated it. Cold environment. Dark. Bartender was as friendly as the light post outside. My husband ate his entire meal with an empty glass and it was not crowded. Tried the pizza a few times in the past few years. Honestly,Frozen is better, which is funny because there is never anyone in front of the pizza oven actually making pizzas, but they are coming out of the kitchen. Pre made? We decided to try one more time since we had the gift card. Ordered the Filet Oscar. Looked great. Filet was served ON TOP of really mushy potatoes, not silky, mushy. Everything was covered in these awful potatoes. The asparagus, the crabmeat and the filet. Filet was perfectly cooked but very salty. Crab was great. Large lumps. Couldn't taste the sauce because of the potatoes. Why not place the filet NEXT to the potatoes? Hubs had the NY strip which came already sliced. Why? The steak was tough and he said tasted like leftovers heated up. He got a double order of vegetables and ate maybe a quarter as they were over cooked. We will never dine here again. read more
