Ive decided to write a review since my last review was back in 2010. I ordered a simple Milk Tea with Large Boba and Lychee Jelly. Also I bought popcorn chicken. I bought the popcorn chicken because if you spend less than ten dollars, you will have to pay a fee. So I ended up buying popcorn chicken to not pay that fee. Don't get me wrong the popcorn chicken tasted great. It was just too much for my plan of eating my meals for the day. I couldnt fit it really into my plan for the day. I ate a few bites and saved it for left overs for maybe closer to dinner. I kept telling myself that I shouldve just paid the fee instead of holding onto this for later. The Milk Tea with Large Boba - was extremely sweet. I regret to have informed the woman at the register to make it zero sweetner. The additional toppings like the lychee jelly and Boba already added to the sweetness. Next time Ill go back and now know ahead of time how to order my drinks. Im pretty sensitive to sugar. So ill keep that in mind the next time I go in here to order. read more

I came to this Tapioca & Tea place in the beginning of the 2026 year, as I happened to be at this plaza. It's nice to visit a non-chain establishment. As of January of 2026, their price for a small milk tea is $4.75, and their boba add-on is 50 cents more. I upgraded my beverage to a Large, which was $1.50 more. It's a decent size, as their Large size is bigger than your typical boba tea places. I also got a Chocolate Milk Tea, which is an option that isn't available at too many chain locations. I also got their popcorn chicken. Unfortunately, it's not as good as other chain locations, when you compare to UME Tea or Purple Kow. Their popcorn chicken comes with no spice, mild, medium or hot. Even though I got mild, it was hotter than your typical mild flavored popcorn chicken at other boba tea restaurants. As for their interior, it's very spacious there with plenty of seating available, including a large sofa. They also have board & table games that you can play too. I really liked their Chocolate Milk Tea, and I can see myself ordering this again or trying out their other beverages. As for the popcorn chicken, I will pass on this next time, but would be interested in trying out their other food items on their menu. read more

This is such a unique and authentic spot. The jasmine milk tea is pretty much perfect and their size large is huge. It's a great value for what you pay and in this economy, who doesn't love that? They do have a 50 cent charge to use your card but the employees are sure to tell you before you pay and they also have a sign up so I just pay cash when I'm here. I would rather cash go towards a tip for them than to the credit card companies. There is a lounge type area inside with seating and although there haven't been a lot of people when I've stopped in, you could definitely chill here for a bit if you wanted to read or chat up a friend while you enjoy your drink. They do offer food as well but I am always in a hurry so I haven't sampled that yet but I hope to soon and I will definitely keep stopping in for tea when I am in the area and thirsty. read more

It's been a long time since I've been here. I love coming here for their snacks, especially the calamari. For the calamari, they use dry squid and batter it in a very airy batter. For someone who likes texture, this is perfect for me. I got a medium and it was pretty spicy. Their pandan waffle is also great, great flavor and chewy, but it is in the softer side and not crispy. This boba spot has been here way before all the newer aimed "aesthetic pleasure" shops came to life. This place is simple, straight to the point but serves the good stuff. They have kept the price down without compromising quality. They have a great drink menu and offers hot snacks - i always make sure I have their scallops and popcorn chicken. I had their Snow Taro and they daughter had a milk tea - everything was satisfying. I like this place and I hope it continues to thrive. Place is clean with friendly staff. Parking can be difficult if you want to park close but the target shopping area is near by that offers more space. Sorry for the lack of photos. We came to Elk Grove for a date night and we had an hour to kill before our movie so came to tapioca and tea. We ordered two milk teas and order of cream cheese wontons and calamari medium spice. The teas came out fairly quickly and were very tasty mine was a bit sweeter than I like but that was ok cause the egg pudding was heavenly. Unfortunately this is where the good stops. It took over thirty minutes to get our food items. I honestly think they forgot as a rush came in shortly after we ordered but when we got our items they were way over cooked. The calamari was so overcooked it was like rubber and the wontons tasted burnt. We didn't realize this till after we left as we had to hurry to make our movie, I'd go back for the tea but likely not order and food items again. read more

We ordered 5 drinks and 3 of them taste like water with no flavor. Services was fine and you can say it's fast as we were the only group inside. My taro milk tea was so awful and no taste what so ever. We all got large with extra boba and the boba was like a day old since the middle was very dense and for sure not freshly made. This is a no frills, mom and pop type of boba shop. The one that the high schoolers come to hang out after school or on the weekends. Drinks are simple and basic. Quality reminds me of Quickly's or Tap Ex (back in the day). Main purpose of the visit was to try the popcorn chicken. The portion size was decent and it came out piping hot! Called Tapioca Express back in the day, I'm surprised they survived the pandemic and all those competitive Instagram-decorated new boba shops. This place has no frills. Just basic boba tea drinks and traditional toppings, which works well for folks who don't care for all the fancy toppings and sugary bases. I like their pure Jasmine Tea, which is brewed so strongly, you can taste the bitterness of the tea. The snacks are why I come here though. They have the original chili, salt & pepper mixed flavoring that only boba tea shops seem to have for their popcorn chicken, calamari, and other fried goodies. Over the years, the new fancier tea shops have deviated from this seasoning and offered basil with their popcorn chicken, yet the flavors were so bland! Tapioca & Tea stayed consistent. Their popcorn chicken and calamari still taste exactly like it did 10 years ago. Piping hot, crispy outside, juicy inside, and spiiiicy! Popcorn chicken + Taro/Coconut (medium, no toppings) = $15.05 You can definitely chill a bit here to catch up with friends. There's a table big enough for 8 and a sectional couch to lounge on. I think the interior needs some color since it's a boba location. It's all brown and tan inside. The order was made quickly, but with your average customer service. Popcorn chicken is expensive, but I do like their fry and flavor on it compared to other boba places. The taro/coconut snow bubble was good too. The last time I had them cater I even ordered party tray of fries cream cheese wonton and it was a hit. I like that's there furniture and tables.However,It kind of seems like an old building to me and it didn't seem tidy to me it kind of took away from my visitation to enjoy this place. Other than the chocolate snow bubble tasted good. If you're in the mood for some boba before you shop this place is good for that. I recommend this if you need to pickup your boba tea and shop somewhere you're in the mood for it you should go for it. Sorry this place was 2 for me. I've been coming here for years, and the food and drinks consistently meet high standards. However, the service has been disappointing. On my last two visits, they either forgot my order or gave me the wrong drink. The staff's attitude was unprofessional; one employee even blamed me in front of me for a mistake, claiming the employee had asked multiple times about the order. It's clear that the owners have hired young teenagers who lack proper customer service skills. Despite the quality of the food and drinks, I've encountered recurring issues that suggest a need for better training and accountability. To fellow customers: the snacks are excellent and worth returning for, but be prepared for inconsistent service. The vibes there are very comforting, with a sectional couch to relax on or even multiple tables to sit at or study! To the management or owners: investing in proper training for your staff would significantly improve the customer experience and your business's reputation. I will still come back and support the business but hoping the customer service improves! read more

Man where do I even start with this boba shop. They practically watched me grow up, I've been going here since I was 13 years old when my friend Duccy took me here (R.I.P). I've moved away but I still stop by from time to time to support. So many memories were made in the general vicinity of this boba shop. Met a couple lifelong friends, a couple of them have passed away (R.I.P. Jimmy). Wiped the windows clean for free boba and popcorn chicken. Bagged my first emo girl here in 8th grade and had my first kiss by the garbage in the back. Lots of tears of frustration from doing homework... through middle school, high school, and college. The owner and her family still says hi to me , and compliments of how big I've gotten. They made me feel at home here, and still do as a grown 24 year old man :') shoutout to Kenny and his sister the OG baristas, and Jet the new gen. This is just my personal story with this place. Stopped off for some boba on our way back to Reno and had a pleasant experience. My brother never has had boba before and the employees were super patient describing different varieties and making suggestions. My husband got a snowball which was our first experience with a blended boba and he thought it was great! I got the mango tea with popping lychee boba and it was actually the perfect amount of sweetness. Sometimes I have a hard time with boba if it is too sweet. My brother had the Thai tea milk tea with tapioca boba and for his first experience he really enjoyed it! We got the Buffalo popcorn chicken which was a little too oily for me and I did not enjoy it. We also got the jalapeño poppers which were pretty good but the breading on them tasted a little sweet. I'm glad to see it's still here! The parking lot is just slightly after the turn into the Target parking lot, when driving North on Bruceville, when driving north. Tapioca and Tea located in the same parking lot as the Post Office. The entrance is a bit tucked away in the corner. I had the Taro Snow Bubble with boba. The boba was good, but not the best since it was a bit undercooked and not chewy through to the middle. The flavor of the drink was fine, and service was good. read more

They're the very few first-generation tea bars that can still open until now in the highly competitive market for boba teas in Elk Grove today. My favorite items at Tapioca and Tea are their snacks. The Popcorn Chicken and the Fried Tofu are excellent. So yummy! I couldn't stop as soon as I took the first bite until the whole thing was gone! lol The dining room is enormous, with a huge round table in the middle. It is perfect for high school kids who want to come here to study and have some snacks and drinks at the same time. The parking lot is busy but safe. Hard to find a parking spot in front of the store. I usually parked my car a little far away from the building. Back in the day, this location was the only boba shop in Elk Grove. With that being said, it can't really compete with the current competition in Elk Grove. The menu is standard and basic to most boba shops, but they don't have anything that is spectacular or that is unique. I ordered a Thai tea milk tea, and it was alright. I was also craving some popcorn calamari and wanted to see if they could do it right/have it in stock as advertised...compared to the other boba shops around town. The batter itself seems to be on the right track compared to other shops, but it had an odd chew to it. Upon biting into the batter, it wasn't exactly crunchy, but it wasn't bad. The calamari inside was also thinly cut and very chewy, like dried squid itself. Not sure if the chewiness was due to how thinly the pieces were cut, or because this was just old calamari they used. Thrilled to find this location and thoroughly enjoyed the Asian twist of chicken n waffles :) The fried chicken was super hot, tender inside, flavorful coating, and didn't even need the sweet chili dipping sauce. It paired well with the delicate pandan waffle. Imperative to eat this quickly so it doesn't get soggy. There's a hint of coconut and it is sweet enough that you don't need syrup. As for our drinks, we enjoyed the matcha milk tea. The caramel icy bubble was a little on the sweet side but not bad. Today they had LOTS of helping hands so our customer service was pleasant. read more

Plenty of parking in the shared lot. Not many customers in the late afternoon on a rainy weekday. Clean interior. Most of their tables seat four people. Very few tables that seat just two people or accommodate groups of 4+. Hand sanitizer bottle is at the front counter, and the staff wear masks. There's a $0.50 charge for orders under $10 that are paid with card. The only thing that I didn't really like is the orangey lighting. Service is relatively quick, and the prices are affordable. Their hot tea is nice on a cold day. I'd come back to try their other menu items. read more

My wife and I go to Tapioca and Tea almost every day but when I went today, I got charged $.50 extra for using my ATM because the total was less than $10. I was told before that they had removed the charge but I guess it's back again. If I had known the extra fee is back, I could've paid in cash. My wife has a receipt from two days ago for less than $10 and she was not charged the extra $.50 fee. Tapioca and Tea get your policy straight. Also tell your customer ahead of time that there's going to be an extra fee if they use their credit card for less than $10. We don't want to give away our hard earned money. I love love love the spicy tofu here.....the crunch, the taste (no strange salty taste like in the spicy tofu I've tried at other boba shops). First boba place I went to with a friend years ago, a super cute laid back hang out or study spot for students and others, loved it.

Calamari is really bad. Like the type that they use isn't the typical calamari in a boba shop, it's very chewy and thin, kinda like a shoe string. Their batter is also tapioca so it gets very chewy and hard fast compared to typical batter used for fried snacks. Their almond milk tea is pretty good, the cashier mentioned how they use a pre-made powder for all of their drinks. That probably explains why you can't really change the sweetness of the drinks (they're really sweet) Would come again if I was in the area, but there's better spots in EG. read more

I really like how there are 3 sizes of drinks so able to get a really large one If you want a lot. There were no drinks with toppings by default but able to choose from the usual toppings. Great place with a large menu of milk teas, fruit teas, and smoothie style drinks. My only down side, is I am bit picky about the sweetness and was not sure if I was able to adjust. This spot is my childhood. I've been going here since I could remember. One of the best spots to study and get away from the house. Plenty of room to bring family/friends. It's truly a hidden gem in Elk Grove. The Kings game is always played here too so I'll stop by for that as well. Back to the food and drinks, every time I come here, I always and I mean always order the popcorn chicken and creamy cheese wontons. I'll get a side of jalapeño ranch and sweet & sour.
