One of the many boba places in Chinatown, Tap House is definitely one of the best. After their renovations, the place is now super clean, pretty spacious, and very chill to be at. The service is alright (not too bad, not to great), but the food and drink are worth. I ordered the mango milk tea and the chicken nuggets. The boba itself was sweet, but I wished there was more mango flavor. The tapioca had good texture and in all, the boba was slightly above average. The chicken, on the other hand, was really good. I have always loved this place for past 8 years. I came way less often when Bellaire was under construction. I recently visited once again to see a completely new Tapioca House! The renovations makes the place a better place to study. Each table has access to an outlet. The L-shape of the restaurant makes it so there a section that is less noisy. The food here is pretty greasy, but it tastes really good! My favorite is the chicken nuggets with the basil seasoning, and the fried mushrooms. Their drinks are -ok, but i love their tapioca. Its perfectly chewy! However, what i dislike is that the drinks and food spiciness is inconsistent. Sometimes a 1 spicy is red hot! and i wont realize until after i leave. Their food always take a while to cook (which i dont complain because i always want my food cooked correctly) but keep this in mind if you're in a hurry. Drinks are quick, but not the foods or snacks. Recently the A/C and wifi has been super whack. Once notified about the wifi, it seems no one working there knows how to fix it. Last time I mentioned it was working it took them about an hour before it was functional. It was kind of a waste because I come here to study. NOW the A/C... omg, by the time it hits 5PM i'm sweating bullets. One time it was almost unbearable, and customers were complaining, and they did check on the thermostat frequently, but it seemed it was getting hotter rather than cooler. Almost as if they didnt know how to work their thermostat. fastforward 3 weeks since i noticed that problem, and it's still crazy hot. Where to start: They use to be really good... Drinks and food are average. Nothing mind blowing about it. The Fried Squid is very greasy and the Fried Mushroom is flavorless. Service is slow, staff is incompetent. When they make a mistake on your order, it's actually your mistake. They don't take cash, tables aren't cleared off immediately. I'm a bubble tea fanatic. I've tried tea places all up and down Bellaire and all over Houston and this one is still the best, in my opinion. Its good to go anytime of the day. At one point I used to visit it once a day but my trainer got onto me about that so I had to get my tapioca addiction under control. I still sneak it in from time to time. The coffee ones are great for that midday pick-me-up but my faves are the milk tea. Anyway you like it, give this place a try. They are really good about customizing the drinks to fit your dietary needs. I get them to use soy milk instead of cream and splenda instead of sugar for a milk tea that has less calories. THEY HAVE FINALLY RENOVATED!!! I have been waiting for this moment for so long and it is finally here. No more dark and danky tap house. Now they have new tables, floors, countertops, menu displays and new menu items. I didn't get a chance to venture to the bathroom because it's a habit for me to avoid their restrooms. If Yelp would let me rate things on a .5 star scale I would give this place a 3.5/5 because this place is kinda good for certain things. Their rice dishes have a very "homemade" style to them where the best thing by far is the chicken. Everything other food is kinda "meh" and "thats OK..." but who would come to this place without getting the tapioca? My go-to has always been the watermelon juice because that's how I roll and all you other haters can just keep hatin'. Never really liked taro or milk tea so I would give those a 2/5 stars. The tapioca balls are always soft and the staff is always nice enough. I don't go out to Chinatown much, so I haven't really checked out the other tapioca places there, but I really like the nuggets and tapioca. The tapioca is on the very chewy side, but I dig it. They have your standard crapload of flavors, but there are also juices. Take my word for it. Do not get juice with tapioca. Weirdness abounds. The tapioca is still good at night, but they can get uber-clumpy, so you wind up trying to suck up a cloud of tapioca. The nuggets can be spicy, depending on your preference, have basil, and generally are not too chewy. They have meal deals. For $4.50, you get your nuggets or other item with rice. For $5.50, you get it with rice and a milk tea (not including tapioca). I don't like rice, but I got the deal anyway, since I wanted bubble tea. The "rice" part actually means you get a tea egg, some green beans, bean sprouts, and rice with pork crumbles on top. I once sent my dad out here for bubble tea, since he was going to be in Chinatown. He said the bubble tea was good, but asked me why I sent him to someplace where there were "little monster heads" (the literal translation) running around at night. I think you get a Chinese high schooler crowd in the evening, which can be a little distracting if you're looking to take advantage of the free wifi. read more

i come here because of two things: 1. they give a punch card and i love my tapioca and want my free one... 2. they come in big sizes. the drink itself is decent. its sweet but not too sweet and the tapioca are sometimes chewy but usually not hard which is the direction i would prefer. i agree that there isnt usually a wait...that doesnt mean they are bad, just efficient. i havent had the food at this place, but i would definitely try it now that im in houston more. the drinks are cheap too. plus again. our favorite drink: jasmine green tea with tapioca and mango stars. read more

I used to come here a lot. I love their chicken nuggets and fried squid balls and calamari. Everything is wonderfully delicious and fried to perfection. The only problem is, they used to give more chicken nuggets in a snack size. I counted my nuggets today and there were exactly 9 pieces (counting the itty bitty ones). I love the food here, but disappointed to pay 3.55 and only get 9 pieces of chicken nuggets. This is chinatown, we are supposed to be getting more bang for our buck. Taphouse is probably one of my favorite places to go in chinatown. If I'm in the area, it's a must. Drinks: I always get the staples which are personally the best milk tea of all other tapioca places in houston that I've been to (north and south side). I like getting jasmine milk tea and sometimes with coffee jelly. ALSO they have poppy jelly/tapioca balls..can't go wrong with that! Well you could..but taphouse hasn't. I get green tea with mango popping jelly (highly suggested) where the "tapioca" burst in your mouth. A pleasant surprise I might add. Food: I use to get the chicken nugget cambo all the time (rice, green beans, chicken nuggets, hard boiled brown egg, bean sprouts) and a drink for about $7. Well worth it instead of getting just chicken nuggets and a drink which is about $6. The chicken nuggets are good but I've steered more toward the squid balls & fried calamari (with lemon). It's good and cheap, but definitely not healthy..so use your cheat day when going to taphouse. Very homely place, with wifi (ask for PW) and plenty of tables to hang out with friends and catch up etc. But fyi weekend nights are pretty packed. This place is good. I've been coming here for many years now, and Tap house ranks near the top with their tapioca in the Houston area. Their milk teas are good, as well as their blended drinks (passionfruit is my favorite). I highly recommend their food as well. For the price, it doesn't get better than this. I grew up hanging out at tapioca house. As young teenagers we would come here eat, drink (tapioca drinks), and chat for hours. Perhaps my tastes have become more sophisticated, but it is not what it used to be. The drinks taste artificial, the boba sticks together (the boba probably has been sitting all day...not fresh) ...the once beloved tap chicken (chicken nuggets) are mediocre at best. But on the plus side is that even though the chicken is of indistinguishable parts it is still quite crispy and hits the spot if you're in need of a quick bite to eat. Hands down my favorite place in Houston to get boba! They have an extensive menu - milk teas, smoothies, slushies, and not to mention THE FOOD! For a tapioca shop, this place has great food! The owner never called me to fire me but I think it was understood and I haven't set foot in it for the last 4 years (except for once, when I was tricked by a friend). I still get a fair share of Tapioca House because I have spies everywhere and because I think they have the best Jasmine Milk Tea in Houston. Their Jasmine tea is good too and their prices can't be beat. However, lately, they have been getting a lot worse. My flavored milk teas were saturated in artificial flavoring and the girlfriend got a drink that was just undrinkable. Overall, I think Tap House is an average drink place, a good but crowded and loud hangout place, and a great place to bump into people you know or get into a car accident in the zoo of a parking lot. read more

I love their spicy chicken nuggets, it's the best in town. I tried their crispy tofu and it's pretty tasty, but the texture is different from any tofu I have ever eaten. It was gummy and gelatinous, but not in a bad way. It kind of reminded me of fish balls. I only get their Passion Fruit Green Tea, so I can't speak much on other drink options. I usually just take my food to go because I find the place to dirty. However, this last time was the worst. I walked in and the entire restaurant was humid and smelled like sewer. I placed my order and waited for my food outside because the smell was that awful. I don't understand how there were people sitting in there playing games sniffing in the sewer smell. This will be one of the few that Houston does better than dallas because the tap houses in dallas are not very pleasant to stay and enjoy at because the decor is not as nice or updated. I didn't like the spicy tofu, it was chewy... tofu shouldn't be chewy. I don't like their food combo things. The rice is overcooked, and the sides are meh. The green onion pancake is good.
