FRAUD, DECEPTION, EMBEZZLEMENT.. Could this be a soap opera? No this was our buying experience from Tapper Ford. To be fair our buying experience with Tapper Ford in Paw Paw started out very well and we were very pleased with how smoothly everything went.  My wife's boss had previously owned a dealership and had recommended them when we purchased our 2011 Ford Edge.   However, after a month or so we noticed that every time we took it to a car wash more rust spots would appear and parts of the paint would flake off. My wife really loved the car so to try and get a jump on these issues we took it to Carstar in Portage to get a quote to have the rust removed and see what could be done to keep it from coming back.  After inspecting it they basically said it was the worst case of rust they had ever seen on a newer car and had a really hard time believing that the car was as new as it was.   We proceeded to take it back and talk with the sales manager Terry who promised to "make it right".  Terry suggested an even trade for the vehicle due to the physical lemon they provided us. Our salesperson was able to locate a comparable vehicle, although the new one had a couple more upgrades so he did tell us that there would be a minor difference in the price and that we would need to pay that up front.      The salesperson, who was overly eager and accommodating, even offered to meet us at a local trailer rental place they do business with in Mattawan, which is much closer to our home and would make things easier on us.  We work very busy and conflicting schedules and we were having a hard time trying to schedule a meeting to get all the paperwork and important information taken care of.   When we met with him we thought it was a bit unusual that he had brought all of the paperwork that needed to be signed in his personal vehicle with him.  Due to the confined space he 'conveniently' folded then paperwork in half so it would fit the console of the truck he was driving and allow the space needed to sign.  I say conveniently because it just so happened to hide the part of the contract that stated they would only be giving us about half of what we financed for the rusted out falling apart vehicle that we had purchased from them 4 MONTHS PRIOR!!!  The remainder of what was owed on the bucket of rust was apparently added on to the loan for the new vehicle.    Since the deal was about wrapped up and I had to work I left my wife to finish the transaction and drive the new car home. The salesperson told my wife that they were only allowed to run a certain amount on the credit card machine and the slick weasel convinced my wife to give him a check for the difference without the payee portion filled out, because "he wasn't certain of the exact name to write it to since he was still fairly new".      I called to inquire about the fact that we were told the deal was to be an even trade for the most part with us getting equal value for the hunk of rust they sold us 4 MONTHS prior, only to find that they gave us about $7000 of the $12,000 that we financed for it 4 MONTHS PRIOR!  The other $5000 they rolled into the new loan and the difference that we owed for the upgrades on the new car was really the difference of the new loan because the bank wouldn't finance over $18,000 for a car that was 5 years old. Not only that but when inspecting our bank statement we found that the check my wife had given the salesperson for the balance had been filled out to the SALESPERSON himself.  Terry seemed confused and puzzled by the matter of the check and assured us his associate would look into it, but could only offer vague apologies in regards to how we were screwed over for the $5k! We did end up receiving a check in the mail for the matter of the blank check issue but heard nothing else from or about them. That is until a police officer came to the house and left his card in our door. It turned out that the slimy salesperson was being investigated for embezzlement and had done all sorts of other heinous things at the dealership.    We're now stuck paying $4k more for a vehicle than what's it's worth, and since my credit had been pulled twice within 6 months the interest rate was higher. When we went to refinance we found that we need to pay another $4000 to bring the balance down to what the car is actually worth.   We tell everyone we know about this debacle. I know for a fact that we have cause them to lose way more than $4,000 in referring people elsewhere. Thanks for standing behind your "reputation".     Worst of all Tapper Ford took the car that we were told was unrepairable and that it was so rusty that the rust would spread like cancer even if you tried to repair it or cover it up, and sold it to some poor unlucky person for $8000 on their budget lot! Complaint with the service department. A simple recall turned into four visits to replace the parts the technician had broken. No apologies, no "sorry for all the inconveniences," nothing. I will not be taking any vehicle to the service department. I have been a life long customer. I will still buy new vehicles there. read more

This is a review for not one, but TWO vehicle purchases. The purchases occurred over a two year span, and I will detail the whole process: My first job, many years ago, was as a lot porter on a used car lot, so I tend to feel rather familiar with how the whole system works, even the sales pitches that come up, but 2 years ago, my SUV started having major problems with the onboard computer. It was more expensive to replace and reprogram than the truck was worth, so my wife (fiance at the time) and I went to the Tapper Budget lot (I didn't want to spend a lot).. well, the vehicle there that I wanted to look at, after a test drive, was just not what I wanted. The used car manager was exceptional, and even offered to help us find something elsewhere. We took a lunch break, and the Mrs. convinced me to check out the new car lot. I was hesitant, as I didn't want to do a lease. So.. we go to the Tapper Ford New Car lot, and are introduced to Andrew Isbell. Andrew worked tirelessly, over 4 hours, showing us various models, price points, option packages, and different vehicles as we test drove probably 4 or 5 different ones. From the minute we walked in the door, Andrew was, without a doubt, the best car salesman I have ever dealt with in my (at the time 45 years) of life. A total class act, he listened thoroughly, understood the situation fully without being nosy, and he NEVER tried to be pushy or judgemental. He was there to help as best he could and get us the best vehicle that fit our budget and needs. After a couple of hours, we settled on a 2017 Fusion on a lease. Then, the fun part.. we got to meet Desmond in the finance department. Bottom line, the absolute funnest and easiest going finance manager I've ever met either. He made the financing process clear and easy to understand, no hidden or missed lines in the documents, explained everything (even my goofy little offshoot questions), and was an absolutely charming and jovial professional from start to finish. We left there, and I wrote reviews all over the internet, I couldn't speak highly enough of Andrew Isbell or Desmond (sorry, I always forget his last name!) Over the last 2 years, I've done ALL of my service on my cars at Tapper Ford's service department. I've even bought some add-on's from the parts department. Front to back, these people are class acts and professionals. No hidden prices or fee's, no playing games, easy to make an appointment with, and even make sure your cars clean every time you get it back. Recently, my Fusion took a rear end collision, pretty significant one. I had to use the body shop my insurance company wanted, and they did a great job as well. However, they missed a very crucial step in the repair process, a four wheel alignment. I took the fusion in for its scheduled oil change, and asked them to check it, and found it was wayyy out of specs. They immediately put the car back into the shop (with my request of course) and had the alignment done in about an hour. The tech even came out and explained the work that was done, and why he set the alignment the way he did. Bottom line, I can't recommend the Tapper Ford Service department enough, everytime I go in they have the car in the door for the appointment time, and are always ontop of anything with my fusion that comes up. This last visit however.. some things in my world had changed.. The fiance became my loving wife, who sadly was still driving an older car than me. One that I wasn't happy with her being in, and me, still being a truck guy at heart, I wanted back UP into a truck, or an SUV. So, after scheduling my oil change on the 17 Fusion, I started checking Tappers website for their current new car inventory. They ALWAYS have a ton of vehicles to choose from, and generally have models from the lower end to the full blown out loaded models. I called ahead before my appointment for the oil change to make sure Andrew was going to be there, found out he was when I spoke with him, and set up a time to come look at a new vehicle to replace my wifes old one. Andrew remembered me from my visits saying I was a truck guy, and when I walked in the door, he was polite and grinned.. "I may have a truck option for you as well".. he'd done the work before I even got there. However, I'm in a spot where I don't need a truck any longer, so we moved immediately to what I was there for, a 2018 Escape. Andrew already had it pulled on the lot to where I could see it and drive it. We looked at 4 different Escapes, both 18 and 19 models. It's what I had my heart set on buying honestly. Andrew again worked tirelessly (about 4 hours) to get me the vehicle I wanted, as always the total professional. Desmond in the finance department, continues to be as impressive as ever. Tapper Ford- the Great and Bad! The Service Department at Tapper Ford in Paw Paw, Michigan is focused on customer service, effectiveness and doing the right thing! I was traveling on July 3, 2019 to Columbus, Ohio when my 2016 Ford Explorer had mechanical issues resulting in the car not starting. I managed to get it started and drove approximately 150 miles so I could take the vehicle to Tapper Ford where it was purchased. Being the day before July 4, 2019 at 3 pm in the afternoon I fully understood that that vehicle would likely not be repaired until Friday July 5, 2019. By 4:40 pm I received a phone call from Tapper Ford Service Department that the vehicle was repaired and could be picked up. I paid the bill electronically and picked the car up from Tapper Ford after service hours. John and Courtney in the Service Department did a great job!! Now the bad at Tapper Ford in Paw Paw, Michigan. The policy for choices of Car Washes was changed so that customers could only use the automatic car wash that uses brushes. Be reminded the option to use the brushless car was eliminated. No one could give me a forthright reason and I was directed to contact Justine Tapper, evidently, one of the owners. I emailed him three times and still waiting for a response. Customer service by the owner is completely unacceptable. The least Justin Tapper could do is to respond to one of the three emails sent. I am extremely disappointed and may re-think where I purchase vehicles. read more

WARNING do not go here. I sighed papers on my car@ 5pm and by 730 the next morning I was calling the dealer because the car felt like I was driving on ice. I took it in they said nothing was wrong, then they found multiple things wrong. Was told it was fixed, picked it up drove the same, was told oh there is another problem and now we fixed it. I owned the car for 2 weeks and had it 2 days. The car still drives horrible and they won't switch me out of t h e car because I can't get a bigger loan. And they won't just take the car back and give the loan back to bank. Even though I was told by one of the owners that they would never make me stay in a car I don't feel safe in. Found a car on internet,(advertised special), they sent me a e-mail saying it was a great car drives nice. Drove to dealership and they never had the advertised car. Tried to sell me a used demo 2 years old (2015) for higher price than I could buy a brand new car (2016) from different dealership 50 miles away.
