My friends and I have been to Tapsilog Cantina a few times and it is a pretty solid Filipino spot. They're a small mom-and-pop restaurant - although they did use AI for their menu (bleh), their previous menu was very... uh. You could tell they had used a word document. I've attached a pic of their old menu (Feb 2026) and the new menu is a bit of an improvement. The important thing is to sort of ignore all the AI-generated images and trust that they will feed you well. Friends have been going here or to their other location for years and it's been delicious! Good portion sizes, in my opinion. They were a lot busier than last time we were here, because of the World Cup finals - so service was a little slower. We did not get the included soup but we were vibing with the unlimited mimosas and didn't mind (otherwise we would have asked). The unlimited mimosas were a good deal - they ask you which juices you'd like and drop it off at your table, and the champagne is self-serve - we went through 2-3 bottles I think! Shanghai lumpias were delicious and piping hot and my friends enjoyed their loco mocos. I enjoyed the chicken fried steak and those two pieces were crispy and perfectly to my tastes!! We've also enjoyed their silog plates in the past and they were delicious, although the only criticism is that I can't tell that there's garlic in the garlic rice. This place has all their silogs served with pork so if you don't eat much pork, try a different place. Food wasn't all great. This is my second time here and I don't remember it being this bad. We came across this silog spot in San Jose and were excited to try it since there aren't many Filipino restaurants near where we live. Usually we have to drive out to Concord or Union City for Filipino food, so we had high hopes for this place. They have a pretty extensive menu beyond just silog plates. You can choose a 1-3 meat combo that comes with rice and an egg. We ordered the 2-meat combo with pork tocino and longanisa, plus a tocino burrito. There's limited indoor seating (I think only about two tables) and additional outdoor seating with umbrellas. If you're dining in, just grab a table and they'll come take your order. For takeout, you order at the register. The presentation when the food came out was nice, and the service was friendly, which we appreciated. The longanisa was actually pretty good, and the tocino was decent. Unfortunately, the biggest letdown was the rice -- which is kind of the heart of a silog meal. We ordered garlic fried rice, but it was extremely bland and lacked flavor completely. Honestly, plain homemade steamed rice has more flavor. Since the rice makes up such a big part of the dishes, it affected the entire meal, including the tocino burrito, which ended up being disappointing too. Been here plenty of times and tried various dishes. They have indoor and outdoor seating which is well kept, sauces are in recycled alcohol bottles which was interesting, they have mancala to the play at your table, and the presentation of the food and menu looks very appealing. However, taste-wise the food is just so-so and nothing to really rave about. I've tried their burritos, breakfast silogs, crispy pata, lechon kawali, kare kare, pinakbet, dinuguan, mussels, oysters, and loco moco. Lechon kawali pieces are inconsistent with some being overcooked and tough to chew, the dinuguan was grainy, pinakbet and kare kare lacks flavor--If anything the crispy pata, mussels, silogs, and Shanghai lumpia are pretty solid food items. Disappointing First Experience. Was really excited to try this Filipino spot for the first time. The customer service was horrible. We sat down waiting for a menu for 10 minutes and no one checked up on us. I grab a menu from another table and waited another 5 minutes to get our order taken still yet again no one checking up on us. I go to the front and ask the server at the cash register whos doing nothing on how to order he said he'll come to our table. We also did not get any water upon seating until I had to grab his attention. Fast forward we're trying to pay at the front and the two workers are chatting and laughing while we're standing at the register waiting to pay so we can leave. But this visit just didn't hit the way I remember. The Shanghai lumpia was good, but not as crispy or flavorful as before. The marinated grilled beef with garlic rice and egg was eh. Food was unfortunately mediocre, though the meal started on a promising note with their unlimited nilagang beef broth, which was warm, comforting, and a nice way to begin the meal. I was really excited when I saw Laing and Bicol Express on the menu--two dishes I rarely see offered where I live. Unfortunately, both fell short of expectations. The Laing were made with spinach rather than the traditional taro leaves, and it lacked the rich, creamy coconut flavor the dish is known for. It tasted quite mild, and I ended up adding patis just to bring out more flavor. The Bicol Express was also underwhelming and missing the bold, savory-spicy depth that usually defines it. We also ordered the sampler with a variety of meats. It was a nice way to try different items, though nothing particularly stood out except the lechón kawali, which was nicely complemented by a flavorful lechón sauce. Filipino eats [Santa Clara CA] I found this place while searching for a Filipino restaurant, only 4 miles from where we were staying. We arrived and found street parking right in front. Holy moly, I didn't realize we have so much Filipino cuisine to offer. It was a challenge to decide but we came for silog breakfast so that's what we were eying. "SILOGS" are meats with a mound of garlic fried rice and an egg. I chose the Pork Inihaw na liempo (griddled European pork belly w/ skin) marinated Pinoy-style. It's not the usual silog I've seen offered anywhere so I was excited to try. I had the garlic rice with it. Hubby had the Boneless Pork Adobosilog (simmered in garlic, soy and coconut vinegar). The servings were generous and we both couldn't finish so we took the leftover portions home with us. Immediately I couldn't help notice the sungka in every table. Sungka is an ancient Filipino board game that involves moving shells (or stones) around a wooden board. I tried to familiarize myself with the game but I wasn't sure if I was playing it correctly LoL! I thought this was a cool idea and a nice addition to the theme of the restaurant. I got confused with the name Cantina but they also offer Filipino-inspired burritos on the menu - monster burritos and loaded sisig fries and served with fresh hot chips w/ adobo/aioli sauce. My party and I were kindly greeted and chose to sit outside but then requested if we were able to sit inside instead because it got windy out of no where and we were able to sit inside without any problem. Food Review Order: Lechon Belly Merienda Silog with Garlic Rice The lechon belly had a beautiful golden-brown skin with a perfect fat-to-meat ratio. The skin was crisp while the meat remained tender and juicy, exactly how lechon belly should be. The homemade dipping sauce was packed with flavor. There's a specific component in it that reminds me of the Philippines, although I can't quite pinpoint what it is. It's a great sauce--especially for people who don't like vinegar--but personally, I still prefer a simple classic vinegar dipping sauce. Something like pinakurat or sukang tuba would create a whole new experience. (Personal preference.) The garlic rice was a bit dry, which was the only downside of the plate. Service Waiter John served the first bowl of the complimentary soup and was very attentive. Even simple eye contact was enough for him to check if you needed anything. The cook also provided great service, helping bring food out and personally asking customers if they wanted soup. Overall, top-notch customer service from both of them. Ambience The restaurant played good Hawaiian music like Kolohe Kai, Common Kings, and J Boog, which created a relaxed vibe. However, adding some Filipino artists like Parokya ni Edgar, Eraserheads, Kamikazee, or Yeng Constantino could elevate the place even more and make it feel more homey. You take a seat where you'd like. They even have a bar type seating option. As well as outdoor seating. Menus are on the table for your convenience. The menu has a lot of options! I would suggest doing some research in advance and come prepared with a list of items you want to try. They do really cooking here so the food does take a little bit of time. It's worth it. They also offer a huge table feast called a kamayan. Copious amounts of food is prepared and served atop banana leaves. The owner said it can be ordered for a minimum of 4 people up to 20+. We finally checked out Tapsilog Cantina, and overall, the food is solid and the prices are very reasonable. Definitely a good spot if you're craving Filipino comfort food. We ordered the chicken inasal, which had great flavor and was cooked well. It tasted good, juicy, and seasoned nicely. The only thing missing was that signature smoky flavor. When you think of inasal, you expect that charcoal, grilled smokiness that hits you right away. It just needed that slight smoky touch to really elevate it. The pork sinigang was decent, but it was missing that bold, sour punch that sinigang is known for. Maybe it's a different regional style, but to us it felt more like nilaga with a dash of lemon. Still comforting, but we were hoping for that classic sour tamarind flavor. Now the standout -- the lechon kawali was spot on. Crispy, juicy, and moist. The crunch on the outside with tender pork inside was exactly what you want. Definitely a must-order. One of the best surprises was their free unlimited bone broth soup. This is one is the Santa Clara location. The inside is smallish but we sat out in the patio coz our four legged one was with us. Their menu was extensive (not cheesecake factory extensive but you'll sure find something you'd like) so we had the "too many to choose from" dilemma for a bit. But that's a good problem to have. Hubby settled on pork belly silog (coz he went there for the silogs) and I ordered my favorite crispy pata. We also ordered the pinakbet to feel less guilty about the cholesterol we were about to consume. Service was good. Our server was attentive and left us alone to eat our food in peace after he made sure we didn't need anything else. I didn't eat the pork belly so I can't tell you how it tasted like but hubby was happy about it. The pinakbet was surprising because it had baby bokchoy in it. My first time to see bokchoy in pinakbet. But it was good! The crispy pata was NOT a disappointment! The skin was really crispy! The meat was not dried out and it went so well with the pinakbet and rice! One thing maybe they could change is the vinegar dipping sauce.
