My first visit here was five years ago and I enjoyed an octopus quesadilla that literally changed my life with its freshness and delicious taste. I have since returned many times and I feel like an updated review is important because this is one of the best restaurants that I have ever eaten at across the globe for authentic Mexican cuisine, especially Mariscos. The atmosphere is local, authentic, quaint, and welcoming. Abuela can be seen in the kitchen hand making the tortillas so you know it's gonna be an amazing experience. The seafood is fresh and the food comes with a platter of sauces and pico de gallo and hot peppers that complement whatever dish you may order. The prices are fair and quite inexpensive when compared to prices back in the United States. There is a view during the day and at night, festive lights, set the tone for a magical evening. In short, having traveled across this wonderful globe and eaten at many Michelin starred restaurants, as well as local places like this, I can confidently say this is in the top 10 list of my favorite spots to enjoy a meal! read more

The best food in Yelapa! We spent the night in Yelapa and a couple of locals said Los Abuelos had the best food on the island. I can confirm that they were 100% correct with their assessment! The food was amazing! My sister and I had the chimichangas (chicken) which came with a mixed greens salad. I'm not the biggest fan of chimichangas, but it was good. The filling tasted like chicken soup your grandma might make. I had the Carne Asada tacos and she had one steak and one chicken tacos. The steak tacos were amazing!! So much so that I would have ordered some before we left the island if they had been open. My sister liked the chicken taco, but agreed that the steak were the best. My only complaint is that the tortilla got a little soggy... I wish they'd served the tacos with two shells instead of one. The salad was really good too. I ordered mine with balsamic dressing. I can't recall exactly what my brother ordered, but I know it came with shrimp. He asked for it to be prepared extra spicy and said they fulfilled his wish. He loved his food too. We all wished we had more time on the island just to eat at Los Abuelos again! We had the rum punch and it was so good that my sister had two of them! (She rarely drinks) My bro enjoyed his drink too, but I can't recall the name of his drink either! Our waitess was attentive and friendly. Go to Los Abuelos... You won't regret it! It's a hole in the wall restaurant that has good seating and great background music. The waiter was very nice and quite professional. I went for dinner with my family and I can't explain the experience without saying you should of been there. Ocean lighting on the ceiling. Drinks made with such a simple approach and flavor that is hard to obtain. The food was literally that of a five star restaurant and made to order. We ate here twice during our 5 nights in Yelapa, and I could have eaten here a 3rd time at least. They make their own corn tortillas on the spot! And as a vegetarian, they had a few different options which were all quite good, especially the chimichangas. My wife tried one crab taco and wouldn't really recommend that, but the fish and shrimp were great. There are a number of tables with a great view of the bay, and I appreciated the fans. Both times we were there, we were treated very well. Especially the first time, when they were very patient with all my annoying questions and indecisiveness. This place has its limitations, but everything they do, they do well. I wish I was there right now, sipping a modelo and munching on a veggie taco! read more

This is a wonderful place, super outstanding fish tacos and it looked like many other wonderful dishes too. The chimichungas looked immense. Very reasonable prices plus a great view, tablecloth service and an abuela making blue corn tortillas fresh by hand. We had to wait a bit but things move quickly, less than 1/2 hr from the bottom of the stairs to getting seated. Both the regular fish tacos and those made with a traditional fish as recommended by the waitress are wonderful and super fresh. Three fish tacos are enough even for someone with a big appetite. They have some excellent wines too. After dinner we did not want to walk back through the creek which was up and the waitress called an ATV, took us outside and showed us exactly where it would arrive. Each time I had tacos- shrimp for the most part, then ventured into the octopus, which is marinated in something fabulous that I had to have more. This was our first dinner in Yelapa and wow!!! I wanted to come here every night, but we decided we should keep our tastebuds open and try other restaurants too. We started with some cocktails, Margarita and mojito. Both were delicious. The service was professional, friendly and very family oriented. It feels like home. For dinner, 2 of us shared the daily special; fish fillet topped with shrimp and a sauce. Served with an amazing fresh salad with beets, apples and goat cheese, mashed potatoes and veggies. This is hands down currently the best choice for dinner in Yelapa. The menu concentrates mainly on traditional Mexican food with a little twist on ingredients and presentation. Burritos, chimichangas, all cooked to order with fresh ingredients. They generally offer a dinner special such as coconut shrimp, roasted pork loin, etc. The portions are more than generous and the service is very friendly as well as efficient. There is a full bar with several choices of wine by the glass. They don't accept reservations so plan accordingly. By 6pm there is generally a line that queues up on the stairs. If you are the adventurous type that likes to meet people there might be a table with room that will welcome you to join them. Overall the delicious food and great service makes dinner here a WIN WIN. (They also offer breakfast and lunch) read more
