Taqueria Almeida is definitely a small hole in the wall type spot with a more low key atmosphere. It was a bit dark inside and could honestly use some better lighting, but the service was good and our food came out pretty quickly. We started with chips and salsa I just wish they gave a little more. The salsa had good flavor, but if you like spice, don't expect much heat because it was pretty mild. We ordered six tacos on corn tortillas. The tacos themselves were a decent size and overall tasted really good, but at $4.50 each, the pricing felt a little steep for tacos. The standout for me was the barbacoa really flavorful and tender. The carne asada and carnitas were both solid choices too. We also tried a guisado taco, which was missing a bit of flavor. Overall, the tacos were enjoyable and the quality of the meat was definitely there. My biggest issue was the price point and the salsa lacking spice and flavor depth for the tacos. Still, if I'm back in the area, I'd come back and give it another shot. I'd rate it 4 stars. read more

Husband and I went for breakfast, it was delicious, everything was cooked perfectly. We both had Huevos rancheros plate, came with potatoes, refried beans and homemade tortillas. Tortillas were excellent, I especially liked the tea. Our order came out fast, no long wait. We eat here all the time for breakfast but I've never done a review. We had lunch here last week and I decided it was time to review. First, I probably would not have ever stopped here based on where it is and the way it looks from the outside. But after seeing Yelp reviews I started coming here. They have the best homemade tortillas - both corn and flour - that you will find. The breakfast tacos are all excellent. The carne guisada is outstanding. The plates with rice and beans are very good. My wife likes the chicken and shrimp fajita plate. It comes with a huge portion of both fresh shrimp and chicken. The service is prompt and friendly and the price is very reasonable. It is by far the best Mexican food on or near the island and is one of my favorite anywhere. read more

Trust Yelp and you're usually rewarded. Visiting the beach and needed to get breakfast after a few hours of sunup to 9AM at Padre. Not a street or neighborhood you'd automatically be in, but when I arrived a noticed personnel from the naval air station eating there and figured they know a good thing. I was right. I judge my taquerias in San Antonio by the machacado/egg breakfast taco and this one did not disappoint. Generous size, fresh and hot ingredients and a homemade tortilla. I can't believe I forgot to write a review after we were here last. It's been over a year. This little joint is easily passed by in a tiny, aging strip center. It's right down the road from the entrance to NAS Corpus Christi (Naval Air Station). They're only open for breakfast and lunch. Their homemade tortillas (corn and flour) are the best I have ever had. I ordered the Huevos a la Mexicana. Great coffee as well. My family had an assortment of pancakes, tacos and a breakfast burrito. I didn't get pics of all the food. Sweet family owned, or at least it appeared that they were family. read more

This is a cute little place for Mexican food. The customer service for lunch hour was not that great. Kinda slow. They are apparently followed by a contingency from the Navel Air Station just down the street. This service was followed by amazing chips with spicy salsa. We just ate breakfast and then someone wanted to stop here. One of our group wanted guacamole. The bad thing is the waitress came back saying they didnt have any right now. WHAT?!?!? Its a mexican Restaurant. No guac? It was just before lunch on a Friday. Oh, poor planning. I got just a beef taco. Their tortillas were not corn tortillas. I had a shrimp taco and a steak taco. Steak was way over done (hard and chewy) and the shrimp taco had 4 small shrimp in it with 2 tail shells still on. Tortilla was big and pillowy which would have been great had it had a decent amount of meat. The best part of the meal was chips and salsa. My wife had pastor which had an off flavor. The place had naval pilots, businessmen, construction workers, fishing guides, families, and lucky tourists. Did I say they had homemade tortillas. I moved to Colorado two years ago and argue with native Coloradans about tacos vs burritos. I said the best tacos have stand alone ingredients, meaning you can eat each item alone in a taco and you would be satisfied. Colorado breakfast burritos have okay ingredients that are tied together with a chili sauce. This place has stand alone ingredients. read more
