Huanchaco is a Peruvian eatery. I was confused when I walked in because the long line was for BBQ ribs. We sat down at one of the tables and a server approached us with to take our orders. Overall, we all thought our meals should be better for the amount charged for each selection. It's not bad, but we had better. This is our opinion for that visit. This is only for Pollo a la Brasa: The service was ok, we didn't get utensils or plates, we had to ask for them. The establishment was alright, no AC or leveled tables, but you can still eat there. The food: salad was amazing! Super fresh, the dressing on point and the little chifles with canchita and aji was phenomenal... the pollo à la brasa on the other hand was marginal, they took 15mins from when the french fries arrived to my table to deliver the chicken, it was clearly old, it was re-heated and hard to eat (chew is more appropriate). This is not a representation of a Pollo à la Brasa, please go somewhere else, I don't want you to have the wrong idea of one of the many emblematic dishes in the Peruvian cuisine. I gave this place too many chances. The first time, I let it go when everyone received their food and I had to wait an additional 15 minutes for mine. The second time, we ordered a plate and the wrong one came out. This last visit was the final straw. Our food came out 15 minutes later, and my husband had to wait an additional 20 minutes for his. The restaurant also has no air conditioning, and the waitresses seemed confused and unorganized. I understand they have a new system and have experienced system failures, but they should be prepared and have a backup plan, such as writing orders down in case something goes wrong. Came here for the first time, and the lomo saltado was incredible. Everything was delicious, and the portions were generous--I couldn't even finish it in one sitting and had to take the rest home. OK, so since we really enjoyed the flavors and the food selection, the first time, we came back and brought moms and pops. Both Juanita & Claudia were there and are so professional and friendly. We ordered Loma saltado, tallarines verdes con bistec (w/steak), tallarines saltados w/steak, ceviche mixto, pescado frito, arroz con mariscos and pork tomale . Every plate was absolutely full of flavors and delicious. The ceviche was even better than the first time I tried it. The tamale was tender, full of meat, and I love the flavor of the MASA. The fish and chips was absolutely delicious (pescad frito) one of the best dishes of the night so tasty very light but crunchy yet the fish was Seabass and it was absolutely delicious, light, fluffy yet crispy and full of flavor. My sisters and tried this place for dinner as it has been a while since we've seen each other. My sisters arrived before me and were waiting for me to order, we were greated and brought menus and the staff was attentive and friendly. The waitress took our order, brought water and chicha morada along with the cancha and plantain strips, we loved the sauce and got more for our meals. We ordered the Ahi de Gallina, Ceviche de pescado, Jalea, and Pollada although the chicken was dry the food was delicious. I also ordered the causa de pollo, and the chicken tasted like it came from a can, which was disappointing. From the moment I walked in, I could feel that warm, familiar atmosphere and smell the aromas that instantly brought me back to Peru. I ordered the fried fish jalea and the lomo saltado, two traditional dishes that represent the heart of Peruvian cuisine. We finally made it out to try the new Peruvian restaurant in Brentwood! This restaurant shares a location with Sticky Chicken. The vibrant colors on the tablecloths and decor are the first things that caught my eye. The staff is friendly and polite. It has a family environment & small business feel- very authentic experience, unique from chain restaurants. I thought the food was tasty! (My family is personally spoiled with authentic Peruvian food often from a talented cook, so our opinion can be biased.) You can tell that the food in this restaurant is made with love. Everything that I tasted here was good! The chicha morada drink was very good; the arroz chaufa was plentiful and filled with flavor. The alfajores dessert was just the right amount of sweetness for me to punctuate the meal. The amount of food you get is good, but the price per dish would prevent us from coming regularly... it's more of a fine dining experience than a grab-and-go midweek type of thing. Comparison to her mom's papa huancaina which was truly amazing. My husband didn't like the salchipapi, he compared it to a Peruvian food truck in SF. The layout sharing with another business felt confusing. You order at the register and they bring the food to you. The tables and chairs were dirty so that was not good. Was working the farmers market late Saturday morning. Decided to pop in and grab brunch to go, to share with my family, who were also working the market. The woman behind the counter was super nice and patient with my bad Spanish -- she helped me narrow down what to get. I settled on the lomo saltado. She was lovely, took my order, then went to the back and cooked it herself. It reminded me a lot of small restaurants in Cuzco. The saltado was freaking amazing -- nothing like it in Brentwood. They are located inside of a shared restaurant with sticky chicken and ribs in downtown Brentwood. You have to walk towards the back area and they have a separate counter to order. It's run by a couple and the woman is from Peru and really knows what she's doing! We ordered the mixto seafood ceviche and shared the seafood fried rice. We try ceviche at every single restaurant we see it available and this is definitely one of the best we've ever had. Extremely flavorful and I can say the same thing for their fried rice. We finally have a good fried rice option in this area! They also offer beef and chicken options . We also grabbed some beers during the happy hour at the neighboring restaurant. We were served complementary snacks, which included plantains with a dip and Peruvian-style corn nuts. Came here with a friend. Wanted to try a new food experience and have a girls sit down lunch. Wanted so badly for the restaurant to be good. Our town needs more diversity with its eateries. But the food was disappointing. Beef Empanada was dry. An order is $9 for one. Platanos were good as well as our drinks. I had passion fruit juice. Our main courses were less than desirable. First, chicken Milanese (breaded cutlet) . What arrived was basically a cutlet dipped in batter and deep fried. It was flavorless and had freezer burn taste. Then loma saltado - marinaded steak with onion and bell pepper. Served with rice and French friend potatoes. The steak was dry, very heavily seasoned. Salty. And fries were not freshly cut. Tasting freezer burn. $26 for this dish. Neither my friend nor I ate most of our food. The room was basically hot. Not sure if ac was on? The restaurant is shared with Sticky Chicken bbq. So the actual establishment is basically two restaurants in one. Overall the room was clean and nicely decorated. Love Sticky chicken and will be back to eat bbq there but will not order Peruvian. I got the pan con chicharrón and chicken empanadas and they were absolutely delicious! the chicharrón in the sandwich had a crispy/ slightly crunchy fat cap, and the meat on it was still tender so the salty richness paired extremely well with the sweet yam inside, and the onions was able to cut through that fattiness and add some freshness. I was so excited to try this place. Given the fact that good Peruvian cuisine is very hard to come by in this area, I made plans to try this out. We sat and waited 10 minutes before a waiter brought out an appetizer that consisted of corn, hominy, a sauce and plantain chips. No water, no drink order. The ceviche had good flavor unfortunately it also had frozen pieces of seafood, ceviche is a cold dish but I have never been served frozen pieces of seafood. After another 20 minutes, the Jalea arrived, which is basically fried seafood mix, it was fried nicely and was the only item ordered that wasn't a total disappointment. After another lengthy 20 minutes we received the steak plate, the only good part of that was the french fires, the meat was so tough and flavorless. The wait times were the worst I have experienced in a very long time, the disappointing dishes made it the whole experience a huge let down. This is a very modest little restaurant tucked into a spot it currently shares with just one other eatery -- and my advice is to go soon, before word really gets out. The food was outstanding. We had the lomo saltado, and the meat was exceptionally tender and flavorful. We also tried a chilled potato dish, papa à la huancaina that was delicious, and tamales with a masa much lighter and more delicate than typical Mexican tamales. I ordered one of their specialty drinks as well -- a deep, dark red and hard to describe except to say it was a unique blend of flavors I'd never tasted before (and now want again and again).
