Chicken Soup
Grant A.

I wasn't feeling my most rooting tootingness the other day and came in for chicken soup. The food and beverage writer Maggie Hennessy wrote an article in wbez about chicken soup from Mexican restaurants which put this place in my radar. Was little surprised by zucchini in the chicken soup but I should probably be consuming more vegetables. There is also carrots, corn, potatoes and of course chicken. Rich golden broth felt warm and inviting. They also provide tortillas, limes, onion, cilantro. Ordered hibiscus drink! Nice and sweet, cold, refreshing!

Los Asadores is great! Translated, it means, "The Grills" (maybe: I never took Spanish and this is what the magic computerized machine says, ooo!) Random related thought: I hope that there's an American restaurant in the third largest city in Mexico called The Grills. Then, harmony and balance would prevail between Chicago (3rd City, USA) and León (apparently that's the 3rd biggest, not counting subsections of Mexico City). And maybe we could stop building walls and get along as nations, but I guess that's too controversial. The veggie burrito is a winner: great grilled tortilla filled with grilled veggies and a little cheese, instead of the usual bean burrito that you might get somewhere else. It's messy, because it's saucy and grilly with all the wet grilled vegetables. Messy food is often more tasty. Or that's what I claim after I slop it all over myself. Crunch, nom nom! It's pretty small inside: six 4-tops, which makes a theoretical maximum of, um, thirtyyyyy.... no, uh, twenty four seats. I can do math!! Anyway, it's plain, clean and pleasant. Happy servers, happy customers, yay!

04/09/23 - I love tacos but I've been kind of tacoed out. I've eaten at Los Asadores before. Their food is very good inexpensive and they always have some type of specials. Their weekend special is carnitas tacos for $1.50/taco. I drove by on Sunday, I saw the sign & I was hongry. It was a sign sent from above $1.50 carnitas taco. You can't beat that. I went in & order 3 carnitas tacos. They were EXCELLENT!!! And @ $1.50/taco a price that can't be beat. Shredded Carnitas crisped w/cilantro & onions w/limes and habanero hot sauce. They also brought out chips (something I missed during Covid). They cashier/server was so nice & sweet. I will definitely be back for some more of these DELICIOUS CARNITAS TACOS!!!!! And did I say they're only $1.50 on weekends lol

Authentic Mexican food. We tried birria tacos for the first time. It was good but we like traditional tacos more. I also ordered a torta. I've had better tortas but my bf liked this torta. The portion size was huge so we had leftovers. He also order the horchata. I'm personally not a fan. It's too sweet for me.

(Note: This review is reflecting upon delivery, not in person) Coming from a part of the east coast where good-to-great Mexican restaurants are almost a dime a dozen, the lack of really good ones on the north side of Chicago has been quite a disappointment since moving here four years ago. It seems like, north of Pilsen, you've got to really dig for a great spot: they exist, but there's not many. Mostly, it's a bunch of spots that are simply fine, good, not great. I'd seen a lot of tremendous reviews of Los Asadores: 5 stars on Yelp, 4.8 on Google. So, late Saturday night, with a craving for Mexican, we figured what better time than now? Well, maybe delivery just isn't the way to go here, or for Mexican food in general. As you can in the pictures, the packaging left the food looking quite messy, and we were left with a general sogginess. And, that's not what you want from your burrito. Flavorwise, Los Asadores is probably worth 4 stars, particularly the carne asada, which was cooked really well. Unfortunately, the burrito in particular was just so soggy, so overpowered with other stuff, that it got lost. I'm sure Los Asadores is capable of better, and based on the reviews, they probably deserve an in-person experience. Maybe it was a bad night? Maybe ordering at 8pm on Saturday isn't ideal? Maybe Mexican food doesn't travel well? Either way, a very average experience for our first encounter.

I've tried this place (had it delivered) 2x now and both times were great! Excellent portion size and packing. Salsas are creamy and not too hot but have just enough of a flavor and kick to them. I ordered burrito suizo dinner and I thought it was very flavorful. My husband had a plain burrito dinner and he said that the meat was tasty, but overall his burrito tasted a bit plain. I'd order from here again, though!

Update: Los Asadores is one of my favorite restaurants! The owner is really friendly every time I call in to order take out and pick up my order! :) Also, the tacos are really good! They're homey tasting with good flavor and the portion sizes are great. My favorites are carne asada, pescado, and tripas (extra crispy) tacos! They have great flavor, are hot and fresh, and always made really well! I don't normally like al pastor tacos, but the al pastor tacos from Los Asadores have changed my mind! I really like the juicyness and flavor of them :) Lastly, the guac. Yum! It's chunky, fresh, and really tasty. I definitely recommend and would get it again!

Went here for my friend mikes birthday. The food was really good and brought a sparkle to mikes eyes. It was good to see him that excited about the food. The service was great the atmosphere and music was as well. Very good locally owned spot for authentic Mexican food. The pazole is only available on the weekends so when I asked what he wanted for his birthday Mike said "PAZOLE!!!!" So I def had to take him for his favorite meal. I didn't get a picture of the flan because of how fast mike woofed it down lol . We will definitely be back again.

Steak enchilada, little soggy wasn't my fave but not to bad

Very good Quality meat even the briarra tacos was good talked with the owner very kind and helpful was a mix up with are food first time he was kind and caring to fix the problem I decently would say if your looking for really good quality food and old style Chicago Mexican food this is the place

As much as it was packed from 2:30 til 3:30 we were still were able to order a drink at bar. Martin was so nice and took our order and brought it to us being we went back to waiting line. The place is small with a hard time to walk around when it's full. It's a nice bar restaurant and didn't realized until we were leaving that there's a back area. The bartenders could be a little more social and happy bc that seem a bit dull and unhappy working there. Unlike Martin he was happy. Mildred was our server and she did phenomenal. We stood at the door for about 20 minutes before someone finally told us the wait would be 1-2 hours. Keep in mind, the place is pretty small and already crowded, so there's barely any room to stand while you wait. After getting on the waitlist, we decided to go to a nearby spot for food--but not even 5 minutes later, we got called back saying our table was ready. When we returned, we were seated along the wall in a very tight space--so tight that if I stretched my arm out, I would've hit the person next to me. We noticed a large table nearby had been sitting for a while without food. When their food finally came out, it made us realize our wait would probably be even longer. After another 20 minutes passed and we still hadn't been able to order, we decided to leave. I'm not sure the space is fully ready for the rush right now--it feels overcrowded and service is slow. I'll give it another try once the hype dies down. I'm happy for their success, though--just be prepared to be patient when you go.

Starting with margaritas (because obviously ‍), queso and chips that were dangerously good, and the chicken empanadas that came out perfectly crispy with so much flavor. We kept looking at each other after every bite like "okay wait... THIS is the best thing here" and then another plate would arrive and prove us wrong again The carnitas fried rice??? I genuinely cannot stop thinking about it. So savory, flavorful, comforting, and packed with crispy carnitas on top with the eggs and pickled onions... literally unreal. And then the skirt steak tacos absolutely stole the show. The steak was cooked perfectly, packed with flavor, and paired so perfectly with all the toppings and sauces. Every single bite tasted fresh and homemade in the best way possible. And can we talk about the ambience for a second because WOW. The music, the energy, the vibe inside, everyone celebrating, the drinks flowing -- it felt like the perfect Cinco de Mayo dinner spot. The service was also AMAZING from start to finish and made the entire experience even better. One of those dinners where you leave already talking about when you're coming back If you're looking for the place to celebrate Cinco de Mayo, date night, tacos & margaritas, or honestly just an incredible dinner in general... this is IT

She stopped once to take our order and once to bring the drinks. That's it. We did not get checked on until we were already almost done with our food. Cute patio. Inside seating wasn't busy at all.

Appetizers were quac and chips, and shrimp ceviche. The guac was really good, but the ceviche was the star. Served on a bed of cucumbers, it was visually beautiful, and the flavor was fresh and complex. There was also a LOT of it. We ended up taking some home. Entrees were steak and shrimp for me, and Tampiquena for my friend. In both dishes, the steak was done to perfection. The sauce that came with my shrimp was spicy and deep--lots of flavor layers there. Both of us took home portions of our meals because there was a lot of food on the plates. Finally, the service--the servers are attentive without hovering. If we needed something, they were there, but never intrusive. It is hard to believe this is a little neighborhood spot, given the service and the quality of the food. It was not too busy tonight--we ate early--but I recommend reservations. It is very popular with the neighborhood. Bottom line, we each had 2 margaritas, appetizers, and entrees, and our bills with tip were around $105.00 each--totally worth it!
