We came here in April 2024 for a quick bite after some beers at the King's X next door - this place was super busy with a very diverse mix of locals. Review is for Viscount Blvd location As Authentic as You Can Get We were road tripping and got into El Paso about 9:00 pm. We were famished and really wanted some authentic Mexican food. This might have been the only place open. And they're open from 10:00 am to 4:00 am! This place is located just a few blocks away from the border, right off of Hwy 10 on Viscount Blvd. We pulled up and it was packed with diners. Young and old, individuals and couples, and quite a few children. The menu selections are on the wall above and behind the counter. There are pictures of the items, but they all basically look the same. No real descriptions. The counter help was friendly, but very English language limited. I asked a few questions and I don't think they understood me. Orders are placed and paid for at the counter. You're given a stand with a number to take to your table and staff brings out the order. As we sat waiting we watched the activity in the dining area where diners were getting condiments from what may have been a small salad bar in the past. I had to check it out. This was incredible. Fresh cilantro, diced onions, radishes, grilled whole jalapenos, limes, red and green salsas, pico de gallo, sliced cucumbers, shredded lettuce and my favorite - a creamy smooth guacamole sauce/salsa. It had the flavor of traditional chunky guac, but smooth and the consistency of a thick gravy. Small plastic cups and paper boats are on the bar so you can take as much as you like back to your table. Our food was brought to us in just a few minutes. I ordered a Burrita ($10.43), two flour tortillas sandwiched together stuffed with seasoned grilled beef and cheese. I loaded up by Burrita with all the 'salad bar' fixin's and sauces and thoroughly enjoyed my dish. My wife ordered Tacos Al Pastor ($9.96), four tacos built on four flour tortillas with mounds of flavorful Al Pastor Pork, topped with fresh cilantro and diced onion. She used the guacamole sauce to add even more flavor to her tacos. The staff in the dining room never quit moving. They cleared off empty tables, kept the floor and salad bar area neat and tidy, and while a little hard to understand, asked if we needed anything else. There was a steady stream of customers coming in still at 10:00 or so when we left. This is a gem that deserves your visit and your taste buds will thank you. read more

Taqueria El Cometa is a great spot for a quick dinner. We ordered the burrita which is a "flour tortilla stuffed with grilled beef and cheese." It came with a ton of meat and was so tasty. We also got 2 orders of flautas - one of our favorite things to get here. They come with fresh cheese, tomato, & avocado on top! I would recommend picking up both their green salsa and avocado dip to go with your meal. For dessert, we shared a piece of their tres leches which is always delicious! For the price it can't be beaten. The portions were huge. My meal was $6.50 and I could only eat half. My meal came with 4 flautas. You could make it vegan by removing the cheese & cream. The food is great and fast but fresh and the customer service is great! We discovered this little gem after Winterfest last weekend. The place was packed with locals, a few families and many restaurant workers getting off work. A good sign. Where do the local foodies like to eat? At the counter, a first time visitor, I asked the cashier what was popular. Tonight it was the flautas. And looking around later, it seemed like every table had a plate or two of flautas. They are delicious! The beef and potato filling is so favorful and good texture. The flautas come with crema, tomatoes, onions and lots of cotija cheese. Such a great mix of sour, salty and sweet. After placing our order they handed us a basket of chips and number for the order. The chips are great, taste homemade and very flavorful. Make sure you stop by the salsa bar too! The salsa bar was very good and their salads we're excellent! The service was so friendly and even though it was busy, they kept everything extremely clean. As far as I know, I've never been to a Taqueria El Cometa before, but I was intrigued by the fact that the only reviews on this spot came from some pretty reputable Elites. And boy, did they not steer me wrong. I ordered the flautas because that's what I hear all the jazz is about. My husband ordered the tacos and even though I didn't try them, I think it's safe to say they were good because he devoured them in seconds. The flautas plate comes with four flautas topped with avocado, tomatoes, onions, crema, and cojita cheese. These were really good. I would definitely do them again. They also have a small salsa bar (think 1/4 of the size of El Taco Tote). I tried three of four of the salsas and thought they were all pretty good. Prices are on point! After a tip, we still hadn't quite hit $20 yet (a few pennies under). Not a bad deal if you ask me. I do want to mention that it's not the most beautiful looking restaurant. It doesn't look anything like the previous restaurant, but it's much more simple and looks very "mom-n-pop" even though it's a chain. But really, the food is good and the prices are great so it doesn't detract from the experience at all. Oh also... if you don't speak Spanish, don't let that prevent you from coming here, they'll be patient and you'll get whatever it is you want ordered. And if you get a chance... take a walk around the parking lot. Interestingly enough, we found there is a small putting green. Not exactly sure why, but it's there haha. read more

Whenever someone visiting El Paso asks where the best places to eat are, El Cometa is always among the 5 places I give. This place is El Paso as it gets. It's authentic, unassuming, affordable, and fast, without ever sacrificing the quality that keeps me coming back. I've been here many times, both sober and after a few drinks, and have never had a bad meal. The tacos never let down, but it's the flautas that keep me coming back. My husband and I spent five days exploring the El Paso area on vacation last week, and we picked Taqueria El Cometa for our last dinner based on great Yelp reviews. While I definitely didn't hate our meal here, I was definitely a bit underwhelmed. I tried their traditional flautas, which were okay. I definitely found the chicken to be a bit bland, but I liked the toppings (crema and cheese). They need hot sauce and lime juice (available at the salsa station).
