Family owned business with a small menu. There are only about 16 items on their menu from tacos, quesadillas and burritos. They had ceviche on their menu but said they don't serve it anymore and ran out as well. I think they need to update their menu a little more. They did serve us free chips but they're just store bought Tostitos and no salsa. We asked for butter with our tortillas that came with our meal as well but it was the smallest bit. Their water tasted and smelled like bleach as well. The restaurant is definitely a little older given the condition of their tables and chairs were ripped up. My carne asada quesadilla had a good amount of cheese and meat inside. The salsa didn't have any flavor and I can tell it was the canned salsa from the store as well. I finally got to try this hole-in-the-wall joint today. Taqueria La Soledad is one of many Mexican eateries in Concord's core downtown area. It is hidden in the back of the Park & Shop Shopping Center, near the eastern end of the complex and facing Salvio Street. They first got on my radar when my old detective partner who lives nearby told me about them. He told me this is his family's favorite Mexican joint in Concord. Well, I trusted him with my life when we worked together. No reason to change when it comes to food! :-) The place was about half full when my brother and I walked in just after 1:00pm. The space was decent sized, with about 15 tables or so. Sunlight illuminated the front of the restaurant, while the back was a bit dark. Cleanliness was at an acceptable level. Walls and arches were painted either in lemon yellow or lime green. Framed Latin-themed pictures and beer advertisement made up all the decorations. Interestingly, we were the only non-Latinos in the establishment. We placed our order at the cash register, located near the entrance. We were helped by the friendly la hefe, who looked a lot like the real life version of the loveable character "Consuela" from "Family Guy". I wanted a wet carnitas burrito, but was informed they don't have carnitas today due to a delivery error. I got the wet carne asada wet burrito instead, while my brother opted for the carne asada plate. With a diet coke and a tamarind soda, it set us back just $24. After we sat down, the la hefe brought us a basket of chips and salsa. The chips were store-bought but the homemade salsa was fresh and had a nice kick. The heat lingered in my mouth for quite some time! About 15 minutes later, our food arrived. My wet burrito was of good size. It had the perfect meat/rice and beans ratio (more meat, less rice and beans). I loved the fact that they used fresh sliced avocado instead of premade guacamole. The whole pinto beans and rice were delicious. The chopped carne asada tasted okay, but a bit on the tough side. The red sauce they used tasted very similar to the salsa we just had. The carne asada plate came with rice and beans, avocado slices, diced tomatoes, shredded lettuce, and a few tortillas that were in a warmer. I tried a couple pieces of my brother's carne asada. They were also on the tough side and tasted ordinary. Overall, I thought the food at Taqueria La Soladed was decent. But comparing with the top Mexican eateries in Concord, they are not quite there yet. If you are interested in trying this place, by all means do so. Just keep in mind that there are better options in the area. Not sure what the deal is with some others' bad experiences, maybe prime time is the lunch crowd???? My coworker said this was the place!!! First, the auntie at the register is so friendly!!!! I asked what smelled so good was it soup in the big pots and she said Menudo, they make it every day. My coworker said his dad used to get it all the time so definitely coming back to try that. I got pastor tacos, definitely one of the best ever!!!!! note, I did not come with my coworker so did not get special treatment because of that. I just came by myself. Park in the back parking lot behind 99 Ranch except it's to the right as you face the back of 99 Ranch. Pro Tip, always enter Park N Shop from the back or drive to the back. So much easier, faster. This is my second visit to the place on a Thursday for lunch. They offer Thursday $1 Tacos! You can choose from chicken, pork, and beef. As always, I chose one of each to compare :) Location -A bit hard to fine. But it is behind 99 ranch if you know where that is. There is a parking lot so parking is no problem at all. Ambience -Family owned hole in the wall. There is a TV and soccer was on today :) Food -They always give you a small basket of chips and salsa. I personally like Chevy's salsa more as this one is a little watered down. But not complaining for free chips! Beef taco - a bit overcooked and dry Chicken taco - great Pork taco - my favorite of the three as it is juicy and tasty Check -You can just walk to the front and pay at the cash register. They are more of a cash business, so try to bring a few dollars with you. They do have a card swipe machine but just seems that people usually pay cash. We did pay using credit card and requested for the check at our table during my first visit there as I was unfamiliar with its norm. Either way works I suppose. 3 tacos at $1 each plus tax. That is one hella good priced lunch :) Service -Don't expect much for service. They get the job done and relatively fast so I appreciate it. First of all, we had huge hopes for Taqueria La Soledad. We researched Yelp mercilessly for the absolute best Mexican food in Concord, where we recently stayed while on vacation. We are huge fans of hole in the wall restaurants and intentionally seek them out, especially while traveling. Taqueria La Soledad really is a hole in the wall spot, on the back side of the Park 'n Shop complex, near the intersection of Broadway and Salvio. It was difficult for us to find, especially since we're not from the area. When we got there, it was about 6:30PM on a Monday and the place was empty, but we were immediately greeted by a sweet woman and another man who was wiping down some tables. She asked if we knew what we wanted, and we said yes -- three veggie burritos, wet (as some of the reviews here recommended -- "the best wet burrito in Concord..."). "Okay," she said. "So, frijoles, arroz, queso, crema, avocado, tomato, lettuce?" Yes, we said... and wet! We also ordered three horchatas, before we were told to sit anywhere and that we pay after we eat. The woman again came out and double checked, "you said three veggie burritos? With avocado? My husband (who was at the stovetop as we were ordering) says you wanted wet?" I did not hear you say that, but he says yes, they asked for wet!" "Yes, please," we said. It didn't take long before she brought us three large, beautiful, smothered burritos. With the first bite, I immediately noticed the spiciness of the sauce that was on the burrito and told my husband that it was going to be too hot for our 9 year old to eat (and typically he does alright with spicy food!). Sure enough, he took a bite, and said "my mouth is burning!" After a couple more bites and an increasing complaint of his burrito being way too spicy, we asked if we could order him a quesadilla instead. "Okay," the woman said, then asked, "is it too spicy for him?" She proceeded to come over and explain that the batch of salsa they had made that morning was spicier than they ever make it. They had run out of one of the chiles they typically blend with the chile de árbol and habanero that usually goes into the sauce, so it was just those two spicy peppers that made up the sauce on the burritos. "I told my husband this salsa is too hot to serve!" She said. "I'm sorry!" Of course she had not mentioned this before, when we ordered our food, especially when she knew one of the burritos was for a child. We expected them to waive the cost of one burrito, as the reason it couldn't be eaten was the admitted over-spiciness (nearly inedible) of the sauce that they knew was being served. Instead, we were charged for three burritos and the quesadilla, too. That was disappointing, as the folks at La Soledad were fully aware that they were serving something they even claimed was "too spicy to serve" and when it couldn't be eaten just because of that, we still had to cover the cost of their mistake. That was a huge turnoff. Whenever we find ourselves in Concord again, we will definitely be looking into other taquerias to try rather than returning. read more

So after Yelping Mexican food in the Concord area where we're staying, I saw that this place had excellent reviews and had our oh so favorite "street tacos" for 1.50$ a piece, which is a steal. We decided to visit for dinner one night and I am SO glad that we did. It was extremely hard for us to find as the directions on Yelp landed us at the Dollar Tree. It's actually across the street and at the front of those shops. Parking was a bitch and people drove about 30 miles an hour throughout the parking lot. My advice? Park in the back and do a little bit of walking. Your car AND your ass will thank you. When I first walked in, I thought that the place was small, colorful and clean. A friendly woman was running the register and she helped explain to me the different kinds of meat that I could have on our tacos. We decided on three tacos "al pastor" which were phenomenal. They were on corn tortillas and came with fresh cilantro and onion. (You can pick up grilled onion, green salsa and radishes on the little bar area). We also got the beef fajita dinner and the Chile Relleno dinner. The beef fajitas were tender and juicy and were mixed with cooked bell peppers and onions. It was enough for two medium sized tacos. There was refried beans and rice on the side as well as sour cream and guacamole and a sliced tomato. My husband gave the Chile Relleno a solid "6 1/2" and said it was pretty good, although lacking a bit in flavor and taste. He also said that they wish they offered to add meat to the inside of the Chile Relleno. They don't serve fountain drinks but they have a plentiful selection of sodas and beer and the flan was to die for. The prices were very affordable. For three tacos, two full dinners, a beer and two sodas, it was all about 30$. They also have a few arcade games for the kids and the two flat-screens were showing soccer. Particularly their Wet Burrito is unique as they use some sort of 'salsa' based sauce which is delicious. as opposed to enchilada sauce which I'm not a fan of. Of course when you order something you have had in the past you can anticipate what it will look like. Well when I received my meal I was surprised. My enchiladas weren't swimming in sauce! That's a good thing to me. There was just enough on top to taste along with avocado, tomatoes, and lettuce. I saw a stray piece of carne asada and tried it by itself. Tasted amazing! It wasn't like other places where its just cooked under seasoned beef. This carne asada tasted....ridiculously good. I'll go out on a limb and say its the best carne asada I've ever had. If you eat in, you'll definitely leave smelling like the food they prepare, as the kitchen is not completely walled off from the dining area so the aromas of the kitchen stick to you.
