We went through the drive thru tonight and a red flag should have been there's no prices on the menu board which is WEIRD. We ordered one asada taco dinner and one chicken taco dinner. Both of them were TERRIBLE. They had ZERO flavor. I could literally only taste the corn tortillas and not even any of the meat. Let's be honest, seafood can get costly and a family can easily go broke. But the taste of the Mariscos here seriously rivaled the taste of Nayarit in Mexico. I'm a true believer now. Got in here on a Sunday afternoon and only four tables were in use as we arrived before noon. We got our chips and salsa immediately so a good start I thought. Nope! We all sat there without any water or anyone coming to the table for nearly 45 minutes. Finally, after seeing other people, who were Latino, coming in and getting served immediately, I got up and said something to the greeter who apologized and said she'd notify the server. Another 20-25 minutes goes by and I get up and go and say something again and this time the server is right there and does not apologize but simply says she did not see us, despite the fact she served a table of 6 that came in AFTER us right beside our table. Finally after being there over an hour we do get some water and iced tea. She says she'll be right back to take our order after dropping off our drinks before we can even say that we were ready to order (we'd been there for a long time, did she not think we were not ready??). Another 15 minutes goes by and I go chase this woman down and she comes to our table and we order. By now we'd been here over 2 hours. She says the food is coming within 5 minutes! Another nearly 20 minutes goes by and my friend who has long since drank his solo beer (he wasn't driving so planned to drink some beers, so much for that idea) suggests we just get up, throw down a fiver for the beer and leave. Right then our food comes out. I mean literally we were just getting up after two and a half hours and finally there is our food. The food was really, really fantastic food, all of it. Period. It gets worse from here though. Only one drink refill and a "how is everything" occurs and it's from another waitress, not ours. Finally after 3 hours, give or take, we are more than ready to leave. Our waitress comes by and gives me the check. I request she take $10 off for the ridiculous service. She does not seem to understand my English. I am not sure if she really does not understand or is playing like she does not understand. I request her to please get it approved from a manager. She leaves. Again I have to go hunt down someone, this time I ask a manager to come over. About 10 minutes later he still hasn't arrived but I see him pouring drinks and helping other folks out. By now the restaurant is fairly hopping. I talk to the manager and he does not apologize for anything but seems friendly overall. I go back to the booth and I see him going up to the bar and fiddling with it. I expect him to come back but he does not. A few minutes later our waitress comes back with an iPad. I believe she is going to expect that I'll give her a tip by her putting me on the spot by being there, instead of the manager. If so she has another thing coming ;) However, I look at what I am signing and yes the manager did deduct $10. And strangely there is NO option for any tip at all. I am ok with that as I did not plan to tip her anyways. I sign it and we get up to leave. By now a huge amount of people are at the door and the manager is there by them with menus. As we leave I pull the manager aside and tell him that the food was great but he has to do something about the absolutely terrible service. He just smiles and says Thank you. Again, not a single apology from anyone about any of the absolutely worst service in a restaurant I have ever had in my 51 years on this planet. That's not where the story ends. A week later I get a call from my credit card company that my card is being used in Washington and in Texas. On our Chicago trip we had only used my card in two places, a gas station and this restaurant. I did check the gas station for skimmers (I always do) and so I am left only to guess if this waitress or manager did something with my card or perhaps it is just a coincidence. I am not making any allegation as I do not know but I know what I believe it to be and you can make your own conclusion from the story. Bottom line here, I feel as if we were discriminated against because we were not Latino. Now I don't know if that's true, just my guess as everyone else around us, even folks who came in way after us, who were Latino got good service and we did not. Or perhaps it was just a crummy waitress. Either way I have two suggestions: if you do want to go here get takeout. And if you're planning to dine in then use cash. Honestly though, there's too many fantastic options in this area to even bother with this place. AVOID. read more

Not a bad place to come after a Fire game if you don't mind waiting for a good hour. If you plan on attending after the game please be patient and try to arrive as fast as you can so you don't have to wait as long. The staff was very friendly, and felt that the prices were fair compared to other mariscos restaurants. The highlight of my night was their michelada menu. I've had decent micheladas but no other place has served micheladas like here. Packed with a lot of shrimp and hot sauce on top and with your choice of beer. Absolutely delicious. I also ordered their Pina rellena, wouldn't say it was my most favorite, Im pretty sure I've had a lot better, but it was still edible. I will continue to come here. Terrible service (lots of other negative reviews on horrible service)! Complete liars!! MUST READ. This place gave me the wrong order and charged me for the "much pricier" item that I did not order. I was without dinner that night. I called and asked to speak to the manager so I can request a refund/replacement with the correct item. Claudia who answered said she was the manager, but after I explained being given the wrong item and the mis-charge, I could hear Claudia put the phone down, say something in Spanish to someone else and passed me off without even saying "hold on". 5 seconds later I said hello?? And then Wendy got on the phone and asked me to re-explain. I asked what happened to Claudia, the manager? Wendy said she's not the manager and that there isn't a manager on-site and that Claudia had to go take orders. After explaining, Wendy said she can't assure me I would get a replacement or refund even though I bring the receipt because one has to bring back the original item within 24 hours. I told her I was going out of state early the next morning but would return in a week and can bring back the receipt & item then, if they really wanted it. She said still she couldn't guarantee based on some "policy" it has to be within 24 hours. Ridiculous! They give you the wrong order and won't refund you or give you any flexibility! She said she'd have to ask her manager but that her manager is busy right now. I said, wait, I thought you said there's no manager on-site?? I said who's your manager? She said Claudia. The name might be a little deceiving (I know it was for me!) since this place I think is known for their seafood dishes and their crazy micheladas. I was there with a group of 3 friends and we all got a michelada which was almost like a meal itself (had shrimp and ceviche by the bottle). We ordered the Chapuzon de Mar, Ceviche de Camaron, and the Charola de Mar. The Chapuzon and the Charola de Mar are pretty similar in taste but the items in each dish are somewhat different. We didnt have any wait time or anything since we were there early on a Saturday but I do agree with other reviews that there is always a wait time in the afternoon/evening on the weekends. I had tried to eat here twice in the past and always walked out because of the wait. Plan accordingly if you really want to try their food. I would always say that the seafood dishes are pretty much the same as the other Mexican seafood restaurants in Chicago (La Costa, El Ancla, El Belero de Nayarit, or Las Islas Marias).Service was great and our server was very attentive with us whether it was bringing us more tostadas or crackers to filling up our glass of water. Service here is great, food is served quickly!Because of the open layout you can see the cooking area so you can feel safe your food is done right. Tacos "Al Pastor" (pork) and "Cecina" (thinly cut beef) are yummy, pair that up with "Horchata" (rice water) and your set to go. They have 3 diff sizes of shrimp cocktails, I ordered the Jumbo for $20. We also ordered a large fish ceviche which could've tasted better at $13. My wife had the garlic shrimp which were overcooked and the rice that came with her plate barely had any flavor $18.99. I feel this place mainly makes business because they're on a busy intersection & across from Toyota Park doesn't hurt either. OVERPRICED. Good, but all of the mariscos plates were OVERPRICED, which I find pretty typical of ALL mariscos places. The menu looks amazing, the specialty micheladas look amazing and the food LOOKS amazing. Let's start with the sample appetizers that they bring out...very tasty and their green salsa also very tasty. I ordered a regular sized michelada with a small seafood appetizer on top (can't remember the name). The seafood part was really tasty...however the michelada itself...was just OK, tasted too much like tomato juice. Next up, the parillada for 2, pretty good and good sized, but again OVERPRICED. Next we're steak tacos, which were pretty good. So 2 adults (1 Michelanda) and 2 kids (kids sharing a taco dinner) we spent about $70, including tip. So, would I go again...MAYBE if I was in the area, (which I'm usually not), but if I did go, I'd expect to spend a minimum of $50/person if your ordering a drink and seafood. read more

Intoxicated by the scent of grilled meats...I wish I would've visited this place sooner--like so many I've passed this place a number of times and decided to go with hubby and a friend. WOW. Just pulling up into the parking lot made me yearn to go in because it smelled so damn good! After looking at the menu and being able to see the open kitchen--my decision for carne asada was easily made. The place was packed when we got there even on a Sunday afternoon---so that's a good sign. I had the steak taco dinner and my husband had the carne asada al carbon dinner plate and a large horchata to wash it all down with. The amount of meat in the tacos was quite impressive, I opted for the traditional onions and cilantro topping. Very tasty. The steak for the dinner was very well seasoned and came with a lovely package of very authentic home-made looking tortillas, guac, rice, beans, and natural cut looking fries to sop up the steak juices. The green and red salsa were ok but wished it was a tad bit spicier, luckily each meal also came with a side of pickled carrots, jalepenos, garlic, cauliflower. Our friend also had the taco dinner, she had one steak taco and 2 of the pork tacos. She loved it and said the pork tacos were one of the best she'd ever had. The horchata was also very good, not too sweet and not too cinnamony. We took our order to go, but definitely will be back to partake in some sit down dining yumminess. First off I'll say that the service was good, and chips and salsa verde were very good. After that, it was a very poor experience. The place, in and of itself, is in rather poor condition.
