Recently moved work to San Leandro. A co-worker introduced me to this spot. I have tried almost everything on the menu and its always solid. If you dine-in, free chips with great salsa bar. Burritos and tacos are always good, and good size for your money. Good service, and always soccer on to watch. Convenient, easy parking, long hours. Not happy. I gave a wonderful review for this place when it opened a couple of years ago. Since then, this taqueria has done very well. Unfortunately, they now seem to be too big for their britches and are pretty rude. Ordering experience: Rude. My chile relleno had a strange taste to it. I ended up ordering an extra taco because I wasn't satsfied, and the server just plopped it on my table and didn't say anything. Please note that I never expressed my dissatisfaction, but rather, just ordered something else. I find this Rude. I will not spend my hard earned money here again. Taqueria taking over one of those 1970's Taco Bell buildings, see positive evolution at work. I do love the windows there. Pretty tidy taqueria not divey at all. Big menu too, like bigger than most taquerias. You can get Caldo de Res (Beef Soup), Seafood Cocktels and lots of other things that aren't tacos and burritos. I do like how they have a self serve chip and salsa bar, and even the horchata and jamaica dispensers are up front with the soda, you never see that really ever. Place gets good traffic, lots of locals and workers in boots and day glo. Carne Asada Taco ($3.25 per/4*) I ordered 3 tacos once for lunch but only got rang up for 2. I thought I was gonna be hungry afterwards as I didn't want to re-order. These tacos are friggin' stuffed to the max. Sure they are tiny street sized tortillas but there are so much meat on there that it is hard to pick up that tortilla and fold it like a conventional taco. Meat spilling out all over the place believe you me, this ain't a complaint, just quite never seen tacos so packed. And all that fallen meat, that's where their self serve chip and salsa bar really comes in handy, scoop all that meat n salsa onto some sturdy chips, which is why 2 tacos were totally filling for a lunch out. Their carne asada is spot on, finely chopped browned meat and I did like the texture. I read complaints on it being too fatty, but in all my taco eating years, this is protocol carne asada meat. Carne asada should not be prime steak cuts like ribeye or strip steak, nor should it ever be pink or medium rare. It is flavorful off cuts browned aggressively to be chopped up really good so any salsa can absorb into it. My only knock for this out was the salsa that I agreed for it to be on top was crazy mouth hot, like fresh serrano peppers were my guess. I prefer smoldering burns as opposed to sharp stinging on the tongue and mouth. And this orange hued salsa was not in the self serve bar. So next time I'll get this on the side so I can control the amount of burn. I had refill my horchata 2.5 times to eat 2 tacos. Lol Al Pastor Taco ($3.25 per/3.5*) Crazy orange hued and totally tasted like chorizo to me, more than pastor flavors. Tender fine chopped pork that seemed more braised than roasted. Definitely not from a spit/trompo but still tasty nonetheless. Just the strong chorizo flavor kept throwing me off and it was greasier than I wanted. This also had the crazy stinging salsa. Steak Ranchero ($17/4.5*) Got this take-out another time and this was a substantial meal that I easily stretched to 2. Their delicious carne asada but this tossed with sauteed peppers and onions and maybe a light salsa. Throw a nice mound onto some warm corn tortillas and every bite was satisfying. Their rice and beans were decent, and like other reviewers have mentioned their beans are really unique, it has an orange hue to it. But unlike other reviewers I'm not as resistant to the change, as it was still pretty tasty. Wonder if they cook and mash chorizo into their beans. Camaron al Ajio ($18/3.5*) aka Mexican garlic shrimp. I wasn't digging this as much as the steak ranchero plate. The sauce was decent but the shrimps were on the smaller size and they didn't put as many as the steak plate, like half the amount. But to get this along with the steak ranchero plate, to make a legit surf n turf outing for 2 is a winner of a move. Still want to try their Caldo de Res and their menudo on the weekends. First time eating there after passing several times. Craving For Mexican for a long while and decided to give it a try. The cashier was friendly and the service was fast. I got steak supreme burrito to go. Asking if they can accommodate whole black beans, but they couldn't. They only offered whole pinto beans which was acceptable option for me. There was a salsa and chip bar on the front. To my look, she probably figured it out that I was there for the first time, she made a remark loudly that chip and salsa is free!!! so I took some home. The green salsa was watery for my taste. It had a bit of chilli kick. I didn't try the red one. The chip was warmed but little bit hard. Customers were enjoying it. Showed up for lunch, busy for 11:00. Took a while to order and get 5 tacos, the al pastor was nice , the asada was ok. The taco de cabeza as decent. While the tacos were good and the service was friendly, they also serve other dishes than tacos burritos and quesadillas. Enchiladas and seafood are on the menu, I did hear a microwave, and saw it while I was waiting. With then abundance of taco spots in San Leandro , I stopped by to grab a couple of Mexican home style tacos at La Carreta Taqueria. Not super busy at all, but a couple of people seemed to have been waiting a long time for their order so I didn't know if they were in line or waiting so I asked kindly a they said they ordered already . Plenty of of parking & the place is next door to Mt Mikes Pizza and a couple of old gas station mini marts. Numerous liquor stores nearby also on marina blvd. In order one carne and one shrimp. They cook to order so you gotta wait a little bit. They were packaged Nicole in a paper plate aluminum and plastic clear bag over it so perfect to go. They do have a tiny salsa and chips bar close to the registers . The menu up top had photos and the place is clean plenty of tables with some futbol games in Spanish on. The price was cheap by today's standard . The carne asada was slight crunchy exact how I like it. They put like 5-6 sized medium shrimps and and it was a good lunch. This taqueria is pretty much straight forward and has a perfectly Mexican menu with all the basics of their cuisine . Location is great as it is on the way to Oakland airport which i frequent a lot. They have the best carne asada fries in town without a doubt. I understand why this place is so highly rated as I order through DoorDash for pickup and they are always so quick with it finishing at least 4-5 minutes earlier than expected. So I had to celebrate cinco de mayo with some mexican food right? Yeah you feel me right. I usually go to the place across the street, but for some reason they kept cancelling my order. Small, cozy place. Budget friendly. Quick service. Food is average. It gets really busy during lunch hours.

The salsa bar is all you can serve chips and the salsa is a green avocado sauce and then a red sauce that was more fat than red and they were both very good. There's also jalapeños and limes and other things so salsa bar was great. The Horchata is also as much as you can drink with the other fountain drinks so that was all very good and the Horchata itself was very tasty so that was delicious. The Carne Asada fries were Really a good portion and the amount of meat that you get is the meat a little small and stringy, but they give you a lot of meat both in the fries and in the quesadillas, so that was really good and also the guacamole sour cream and the cheese was also all great so across the board very highly recommend carne asada fries. read more

My burrito craving was brewing during this lock down and I was desperate to get my hands on some. I've been driving by the corner of Doolittle and Marina for YEARS and never thought to give La Carreta a try until a couple weeks ago. I gave La Carreta a call and placed an order for a customized super burrito and a horchata-pretty straight forward. Upon entering the restaurant, I first noticed how clean everything was. Of course with the Covid-19 situation, this is what is expected, but wow I was thoroughly impressed. They also had a giant plastic shield up to protect the cashier. So, the transaction went smoothly and to my surprise, the cashier gave me a HUGE cup for my horchata, like the XXL sized cup--I was a happy camper! When I order burritos, I like to customize it with rice, beans, lettuce, meat, guacamole, and cheese (no salsa or sour cream)--I got everything that I asked for. The flavors were rich, salty and just how I liked it; overall it was a pretty solid burrito. Not to mention that it was huge! I gave 1/4 to my mom and I was still struggling to finish it; it could have easily been 2 meals. For the horchata, it was perfectly balanced, not too sweet and the cinnamon was not overpowering. Prices on Google Menu are wrong (See picture). Orderd two Fish Tacos (super), and two prawn tacos (small prawns ). I was charged roughly $11 for two two "super tacos" AND THEN $5 extra for the fish (wth), and $10 for the two Prawn tacos..which came $26 then an extra dollar for taxes. The cashier told it my order came out to $27, and I couldn't believe it, (I ordered over the phone). I told the cashier it couldn't possibly be $27 for 4 tacos. She then spoke with the OWNER of the restaurant..I heard him say, "give him a discount", which ended up being $1 discount (wth). I ended up paying $26 and some change. My uncle ownes a restaurant in San Leandro Called Los Cantaros Taqueria, and I called someone who works there and asked how much they charge for the same meal, I was told it would be $19 and some change to get it at Los Cantaros. I cannot believe the OWNER of La Carreta wouldn't at least HONOR the prices that is shown on Google Menu. Let me add, the fish in the tacos is not a solid chunk, it's crumbled and tasted like rice. Food has amazing flavor, good music while you're eating!!! So fast at serving you, I would definitely be back!

I love this place. My parents introduced me to it quite a while ago (probably a couple of years by now) and it never fails to satisfy. Lots of choices of meat here, from the old faithfuls to the options not offered at every taqueria, like lengua, cabeza, chorizo, and pollo cocido (as opposed to pollo asado, which they also have). Plates are really generously sized, with rice, beans, and tortillas, and are about ten bucks each. You can definitely get two meals out of one. I like the chile relleno here, and the plate gave me more than enough food. Tacos are good here but not the best I've ever had; regular tacos (meat, onions, cilantro, salsa) are $2.95 each, and the price increases if you want cheese or want to make them super. I love most things banana, and prior to COVID they made a delicious, refreshing banana smoothie. Unfortunately, they're not making smoothies right now, which was really disappointing when I found out. Can't wait until I can get one of those again. The burritos really shine here. They're massive, they're delicious, and whether regular or super they're under ten bucks. Wet pushes it over ten bucks (whether regular or super) but the portions make it worth it. I got the chile verde super burrito and it was fantastic. I couldn't finish it in one sitting so I got a second meal out of that, too, but the flavors in the tomatillo sauce were wonderful. There used to be a salsa bar prior to COVID with a number of different salsas available; ask for salsa to-go when placing your orders now. Got horrible food poisoning from this place. Would not recommend unless you want to be throwing up all night. When we came back to ask for a refund the next day for our food that gave me food poisoning, they were nasty and acting like it was somehow our fault and when they called the maniger and he reluctantly refunded the money but then they rudely told us to never come back, not that I would anyway. I was on my way Home from Work and was Craving a Burrito . I spotted La Carreta Taqueria in the Old Taco Bell Building on Marina and Doolittle. So I pulled into their Parking lot and Parked my Whip . I Rolled In and was Impressed with the way the Old Taco Bell has been Remodeled and Repurposed. I perused the Menu and Noticed their Prices were on the High Side for the San Leandro Area . I ordered a Carne Asada Super Burrito and a Small Fountain Drink , To Eat there. I paid by Credit Card . I was Disappointed by their Salsa Bar which was Depleted and Dirty . This was Unsatisfactory . There is a Small LCD TV for Entertainment . 10 Minutes Later a Server Dropped off my Burrito at table . My Burrito was on the Smaller Size Scale for a San Leandro Super Burrito . Was on my way to the airport and wanted to eat a few quick tacos and found this place. Well, as far as the flavor goes the tacos lacked flavor. I had the cabeza and carnitas. The cabeza lacked flavor and serviced with too much liquid, meaning enough to desolve the tortillas. I will say the amount of meat was very generous. The carnitas was completely shredded and not sure what they soak them in, but I think it removes flavor. Again generous portions of meat. I mean really, it is not that hard to give the meat a little more flavor. The place is in a industrial location and seemed to be doing something right, again this is my opinion.
