I used to come here with my family and dine in, and the staff were always friendly and welcoming. Unfortunately, the experience has changed. Today was my first time using the drive-through and it was disappointing. The order clearly wasn't double-checked before it was handed out. One of the containers with beans wasn't sealed properly, so it spilled all over inside the bag, and they didn't even include the tortillas that come with the meals. I understand businesses need to move quickly, but basic things like verifying orders and sealing containers properly matter. It just doesn't feel like the same place it used to be. read more

I don't know how anyone can possibly eat here and think the food is good. We were invited by friends, so my husband and I split fajita nachos because we were told the food was awful. It lived up to that comment. The cheese was so awful I had to peel it off in clumps off the chips. The meat was overdone and had way too much nasty spice on it. Very, very unpleasant and totally unlike the beautiful picture on line. Seating was very overcrowded, cheap paper napkins rolled around a cheap knife and fork at the table. The only good thing was the marguerita. My gosh Temple and Belton people, upgrade your food! Longtime Belton resident here. TMG has been the go-to Mexican for late-night, fast great service & food over the years. They've even expanded their parking lot over the past few years to accommodate their popularity, including a second drive-through lane. But for the past several weeks, it's had a cone blocking the second lane rendering it unusable. Why have it if it's not going to be utilized? Here's why they're getting a 2 star from me tonight. See, I hit them up for take-home a lot using their drive-through including tonight. The service is kind, usually speedy & the food is consistently great quality - absolutely not mediocre Mexican. However, tonight was the FIRST time I've seen a major change for take-out & it's not good. This is why even after all the good times & food, I'm submitting a review & a less-than par one at that. I did voice my concern with the drive-through facilitator who confirmed this was a brand new adjustment they've made & offered to change it to the same old. But I refused to waste more time & resources. Let me elaborate specifically on the major issue of change here: First & case in point, look at the picture of my order & ask yourself, where are the beans?? They have always used the typical dinner plate styrofoam box. Tonight I got, for the first time, a round aluminum plate instead. You typically get these at Italian restaurants where there is one take-home entree. So now, you CANNOT get your food separated/quarantined. YES, this keeps the order hot, much appreciated. But when you have an entree, and what should be distinguishable sides such as refried beans, rice & salad, WHO wants it all congealed together as if it's one entree? Additionally, I know that many people would have a problem with their food being basically mixed together without diner choice control. Not only that, to prove the point, I opened mine to basically not even SEE the beans. Yes, they're UNDER all that....somewhere! What really irked me too is that with the change, though, not by much, the receiver is presented with seemingly smaller portion sizes for obviously the same price. What gives TMG? Keeping it hot sacrifices some common sense eater preferences/ mix rights & makes me feel like you want to cheat the customer a little bit to save costs too. I'm all for GOOD & REASONABLE changes, but I think this is a bad move. read more

Worked there over a year and never got a requested day off the only way to get a day off approved the manager claimed i had to sleep with him. Compared to the bartender that has worked a couple of months and has a intimate relationship with him she got a month long vacation. I have been coming to the place for 7 years and have always had wonderful service, to the point I've had the chicken in my tortilla soup put on the side while I was sick. Tonight I called around 1015pm to pickup tortilla soup again. I have been sitting at the drive through window to pick it up at 1025 and have been sitting here watching the two girls talking nonstop for the past 30 mins. A younger man came up to the window to take my payment and the girls tried to stop him from coming up to the window. It is now 11pm and I still have no soup. I live close to Mexicano Grill which makes it very convenient for takeout. I've dined in one time, and recall the service being fine and food pretty good. I don't typically write reviews on takeout for brick and mortars unless it's clear that the food experience would have been pretty similar in the restaurant, which is the case today. I ordered the steak fajita chilaquiles. I understand the risk of ordering chilaquiles to-go. Tortilla chips covered in sauce get soggy. Cool, I am more interested in the steak and sauce and cheese and tortillas etc. etc. I was very surprised when I opened the to-go box but not necessarily in a bad way. Did it look like chilaquiles? No. Did it look like a lot of steak, refried beans, and an unexpected piece of bacon? Yes - very exciting IMO. I sometimes just get refried beans for breakfast, so I was very pleased to see my dish came with some. The beans were good. They were very spicy which caught me off guard. I liked them, but if you're not expecting spicy refried beans they may not be your style. The steak was a little tough, but thin enough that it didn't matter that much. It had a really good flavor. With fajita chilaquiles, I would have expected the fajita meat to be sliced like fajitas, but instead it was one full piece. Since chilaquiles are typically served with tortillas and put into tortillas for little breakfast taco-ey goodness, slicing the meat would have made sense. I did not try the potatoes because I wasn't in much of a potato mood. They didn't look very crispy but that's judging a spud by its cover so take it with a grain of salt. The bacon was good because it was bacon. The actual chilaquile part was .... not great. They were also very spicy, which is fine but be warned. The issue was the bitterness of it. It seems like whatever they used to spice it up was overdone and not balanced out with other ingredients so the red sauce was just very bitter and dissuaded me from eating the rest of it. Also, it was just tortilla chips, sauce, and cheese, no eggs. Do chilaquiles always come with eggs? I don't know, I thought so. They always have in my experience. Google says they are corn tortillas simmered in sauce "often" served with eggs, so I guess they don't have to, but IMO it is kind of what makes it a breakfast dish. I like that Mexicano grill has so many breakfast options. I will try other things. I will definitely give the steak and eggs a try, since it seems guaranteed to come with eggs and I liked the steak on the chilaquiles. I think there is good and bad and I need to explore the menu a bit more before making a final decision. It might be one of those places where you just have to know what to order and what to skip because they don't do it all well. read more

Few years ago I walked into this Mexicano Grill and asked if they would take a large party. The response was confusing; got passed off to every employee that spoke English. Left without an answer. Searched on locally and found Backporch Drafthouse who accepted our group with ease. Never thought I'd set foot in this restaurant till my buddy set up a run. Yep, car club life headed north to the Temple/Killeen area to retry Taqueria Mexicano Grill. Waited a few minutes to get a large table cleaned and set up. Drinks and chips flowed per usual once seated. Most of the group seemed happy with the food. GF and I chose to share our first Molcajete. Beef and chicken fajitas with shrimp, cactus, and peppers. Smothered in tomatillo and ranchero sauces. Served with the usual rice and beans and your choice of tortillas. Service was great for the group; all checks split with gratuity applied. Girl was really on her game. Thought about adding an extra star but I'm still replaying my first experience in my head. No potential customer should have went through what I experienced. First time for the hub and me. We wanted to sit at the bar but there wasn't space and we were going to leave, but the hostess asked someone to check the space out for us and offered us a high top table for two near the bar. Thank you for taking the time. Clean and vibrant and fun is this restaurant. We had never stopped after living in the neighborhood for almost two years because the place was always packed. And packed it was this evening. The atmosphere was joyful and pleasant. Bathrooms are clean. We ordered a margarita and a beer $8 for a, I believe, 16oz, domestic beer. Which is a little pricey. My margarita was less although I didn't taste any tequila. Could use a touch more, but was tasty. Staff was very professional and courteous. Lily was our server and very nice. Big thumbs up. Free chips and salsa and the bean spread was yummy. Had the chicken enchilada verde which was good. Hubs had the chimichanga which he liked. We took half home, so the kids got to enjoy as well. Overall I think the beer is a bit expensive considering it's just a domestic draft but we would definitely return. Was there two evenings ago and was disappointed in the food. I ordered a chicken faheata plate, when it the chicken was in one piece and grilled without spice. My plate comes with two 4.5" flour taco tortias. I asked for the chicken to be cut up and it was returned. They cut the chicken breast up and recooked the plate. Chicken was extremely dry. I have door dashed the Temple location a few times and have had great experiences; and a client gave such a great referral for This location that's located just up the street from my home so when my husband and I had a craving for Caldo de Res we thought - why not??? I have been to this restaurant several times and I still keep going. The food is good and the service is also good. On this particular time I ordered the tacos campechanos. Which is a mix of beef and chorizo and they come with a side of charro beans (see pic). Very flavorful, the beans are amazing. I could eat a whole pot of them, they have a little bit of spice but man are they good. So why the 3 stars. Well because of inconsistency. As muchas I like it here they lack consistency. At times it feels they use different cuts of meats for the plate you were expecting. The first time I ordered this tacos they were the meat was thinly sliced and it had chunks of chorizo, not it all ground up. What a wonderful place. I ordered take-out 40 minutes before closing and Roberto was perfect over the phone. The order was taken accurately and quickly. The fajitas were the best we've had since we moved to the Belton area. The beef was flavorful and tender. The sides were plentiful and perfectly seasoned. We ordered the double order and it could have fed 2 more people. We also ordered a chicken chile relleno and chicken enchilada combo plate. Again this plate too was executed perfectly. I hope this is the norm for this place. If it is we will be regulars. read more

Terrible. The host Itzel sat us with Ms Mimi because we asked too get sit with her. Ms Mimi is an amazing server and we love having her as our waitress. I saw all the waitress yelling at Ms Mimi including the host who sat us with her. All the other girls proceeded to give me dirty looks and kept looking at our table with such a dirty look. Ms Mimi came to our table told us she could no longer be our waitress because one of the girls called the boss and the boss told them she couldn't anymore. The girl was name Itzel she is the host who sat us with her, why sit us with her then call the boss too take her table away, very disrespectful. I think the boss should rethink what they did because it was Mimi table for the jealous girls working there to take her table after the host gave us the table away and yell at her. It was so uncalled for and wrong of the other girls to take Ms Mimi table away after giving her the table and trying to serve us. I hope the boss knows those girls were yelling at her after the host was the one who gave us the table and proceeded to call the boss. Ms mini did nothing wrong. Not good. Ground beef has no seasoning, just plain ground beef. The lettuce on tostadas is like mixed salad bag lettuce. Sorry, but spinach and radochio dont go well with tostadas/tex mex. The salsa has an odd, almost herb flavor to it. The enchilada sauce is either from a can or packet-generic, not fresh or homamade. The queso is almost like a mac n cheese sauce/roux. read more

Went in at 12 noon on 22 May, was placed in the back room where several tables were seated (whom finished up right after we sat down). Place looked like it had been quite busy with the lunch crowd. We were served chips and salsa but had to wait an extended period before our order was taken (chips and salsa gone). Several people came into room and collected tips and cleared tables (no acknowledgement). When order was finally taken and received the burrito was not even warm in the middle as if it was made before hand then had some warm cheese sauce poured over it.
