I really enjoyed my visit to Ovest. I took one of my team members to dinner there based on his suggestion. I used to go to the original Luzzo's pizzeria in the East Village many years ago. It was my favorite pizza place in NYC, even though they only sold beer and wine and were cash-only. The new place was a nice space. It had plenty of room, a small bar, and nice sitting areas. I was told that the original coal-fired oven from the original Luzzo's was moved to this location. The tables were large enough for two of their pizzas. Our server was pleasant and helpful. He gave us the rundown of all the pizzas. I had a drink to start, a Negroni, which was well-made and decently sized. We started with a Caesar salad that was large enough for two. It was well-made, and the dressing was quite tasty. We each ordered a pizza. My guest ordered the Bufala, and I ordered the Brutta Ma Buona. The pizzas were excellent. Were they as good as the original Luzzo's? I honestly can't remember, but these were good. The dough and sauce were excellent. The toppings were fresh. They are called personal-size pizzas, but IMHO, two people would be full with a salad to start. I will be back when I return to NYC. read more

I've been frequenting here due to their consistency and prices. It is hard to distinguish, but their Neapolitan pizzas appear to be made with a sourdough starter. The pizzas are always quickly prepared when the order is placed. The location is also conveniently off the West Side highway and very accessible by car and the MTA if you are looking to find a place to grab a quick pie. Once inside, you are greeted by a dimly lit room and a wood-fired oven in the back. This place means business. The Ovest and Diavola pies are simply amazing. There is a great equilibrium of fluff and texture in the crust-to-topping ratio. You absolutely need to complement each bite with the crust to fully appreciate every bite. Came here on a weeknight with family. Ovest is on one of those semi-obscure blocks in Chelsea that aren't crowded with commercial foot traffic. And since I drove parking (niche, I know) was really easy. The decor was modern industrial chic and being Tuesday it was fairly relaxed. Service was prompt and professional. The real standout here, though, was the pizza. It's hard to be disappointed by NYC pizza, be it Neopolitan or New York style, but the dough was one of the better I've had in recent memory. The Ovest pie, with cheese, sausage, and cherry peppers, had a nice bit of spice. Appetizers were also good, from the burrata to the artichoke. And the wine list is very solid. We had a nice bottle of Valpolicella. read more

I arrived at this spot with a group of six with no reservation, and we were promptly seated--always a good start. The service here was nice too; our server was very attentive, and my water glass was never empty. I went with the Rigatoni al Ragu, and I have to say, it did not disappoint. 3.5 stars I met some friends at Ovest Pizzoteca the other day, and I really had mixed feelings about my experience. The restaurant was almost hidden, tucked amongst a sea of industrial buildings. I did not see a sign out front, but had a vague idea of what the place looked like, thanks to Yelp! The high-top tables, in front by the bar, were visible from the street, as the whole main façade was open to allow the beautiful evening air to enter the place. I walked through the empty forefront area to the rear dining room to find my companions. The space was super industrial, with its exposed brick walls, hanging light bulbs, and wood décor, but they made it work. The service was fine, but nothing to write home about. However, our food did arrive quickly, but that was likely because the place was rather empty. While they did not offer any bread to munch on, we proceeded to order beverages, while we decided on our food items. Since most of the menu already centered on carbs, like pizzas and pastas, I suppose the bread was unnecessary anyway. From a drink perspective, over the course of the evening, I had a glass of very sweet prosecco and a bland watermelon margarita. The summer cocktail was watery and, in fact, it had a strange taste... Aside from the drinks, I adored my food! I knew most people would order pizza or pasta there, but I tried to pick a potentially lighter combination of the Meatball appetizer and the Ovest Salad. The beef meatballs were substantially-sized, perfectly firm, slowly-cooked in an absolutely stunning tomato sauce, and topped with shaved, hard Parmigiano. I could have eaten bowls of that marinara on its own! The salad was one of the more interesting ones listed in that section of the menu, as it contained baby arugula, Hass avocado, grapes tomatoes, Parmigiano, and Gaeta olives. I had forgotten to ask for the balsamic dressing on the side, and they had used a bit of a heavy hand when they covered the greens with it, but that dressing was excellent! It certainly was better than most balsamics I have had elsewhere. So, yeah, Ovest Pizzoteca left me with a very conflicting impression that would not necessarily bring me back to that remote part of town, but would also not have me veto the place. read more

The place looked very modern and cool outside. The main complaint is the bathroom. It was very dirty, unkept, and not matching the rest of the restaurant. The door stuck and I thought for a second I was trapped inside because the door was unlocked but it wouldn't unstick. Another complaint was the service. We were greeted pleasantly and then the waiter brought out waters and we asked for lemon slices and he brought only three when there were five of us, so he brought the remaining two lemon slices in his hands instead of in a place or something. Also, he put the straws that didn't have any covering like paper or plastic on them on the table, which is unsanitary to put in your drink. The only pro was the pizza. The wood fire pizzas were really good. The Ovest Pizza and the Capriccosa Pizza were the best out of the three since the Ovest one had a good spicy kick to it and the Capriccosa had a good blend of ingredients on top of it. read more

Picked this place for the reviews and their cuisine. I'm glad that I did as it was really good. Everything from the service to the food was phenomenal. They were able to move us to a different table as it was quite inconveniently placed. I'm glad they were able to accommodate. If you want the menu, there's a QR code that's on the table. The menu is divided into different sections so easy to navigate. The wait staff was plenty, and if you wanted something, they would come by fairly quickly. The waters were refilled without being asked, so I can't complain about being thirsty. Regarding the food, we started off with the arancini balls, which are 4 cheese rice balls. They gave marinara sauce with it. I would hope that no one would mess this up, and this place surely didn't. I got the black tagliolini, which had calamari, shrimp, cherry tomatoes, and arugula, along with this garlic red sauce. I might be biased as I really enjoy seafood pasta, but this one was very exceptional. All in all, I'll be going back as I would like to try their other dishes. read more

This little restaurant was perfectly situated for our needs. Our work event was just down the block, and we'd promised lunch to our guests who'd traveled into town to attend. Turns out, there were two lunches: one smaller group that consisted of mostly teenaged kids and their chaperones (which I started at, but did not attend) and another with nine of our other guests, mostly adult with a few teenaged students included. The hostess didn't even blink an eye when we came walking through asking for a table (or at seeing me asking for a table to accommodate a group less than an hour after my first visit doing the same thing, haha.) We were shown to a large table towards the back and huddled around the menu to figure out what to order. We went with a number of different pizzas and some individual entrees for the vegan and some of the younger attendees. In total, we got: the diavola ($21), the capricciosa ($21), the bufala ($18), the arugula ($22), two orders of the tagliatelle fredo with shrimp ($16 each), the martha ($22), a bucatini alla matriciana ($23), a ravioli ($22) a kale salad ($17) and a Cesare salad ($15). Quite a bit of food, but the group was large. Everything was delicious, though I did only have a couple slices of some of the different pies that were plopped in front of me. I didn't eat much because I was still full from the previous night's dinner, but I did enjoy the flavors of the slices I ate. The crust is soft and the peppers and Italian Sausage gives it a good flavor. I also love that they have Chilli Oil on the table (if it's not there ask for it) that adds an extra kick! It's a little on the expensive side but that's to be expected in Hudson Yards. A couple times we've gone we've gotten free appetizers as well due to an over order at other tables I'm guessing. It was my first weekend ever in NYC and we were near the Highline and we're just exhausted at this point and wanted a nice sitdown dinner. I was excited to find this restaurant in a nice area so I thought it would be great. And, we were seated immediately. The ambience was really pretty - nice, lighting, and noise level was fine. When we sat down a server started to open a bottle of sparkling water, and I stopped him and told him we were fine with still. What actually happened was he then went and got a bottle of mineral water with a label on it and poured that into our glasses. We were so annoyed when we realized all the other tables just had clear bottles of water , a.k.a. tapwater, and we were kind of given expensive water without asking for it. So we did end up having to pay nine dollars for a bottle of water. But, maybe he thought I said mineral. Our main server, a younger female, wasn't very friendly. We shared a Caesar salad that was a little pricey, but it was delicious, and they also gave us complementary bread, which was really good. The pizza I ordered was giant and I love oven fired pizza, but it ended up being really soggy so it was really disappointing. Not what I had hoped my first slice of a NYC pizza would taste like. My husband ordered a dish that tasted quite mediocre. He asked if he could sub the potatoes for pasta but they said no. It came with a side of mashed potatoes, and as you will see in the photo, it just looked like it was a sandbar in the middle of a river. He thought they tasted like instant. So the food was alright and we ended up paying $100 including a tip for both of us. I think we just felt especially annoyed and duped about the mineral water. The portions were generous, but it was just really disappointing. It was the only meal we regretted during our trip to New York. read more

I put down my card and asked for an espresso. "I'm sorry, but they already cleaned the machine." Not ok. Please send the manager over, I'd like to talk to them." "I'm sorry, she's not here. She's on vacation." "Who's in charge right now?" "Nobody." Ownership, you have a management problem. As long as you have customers at the tables, you're open and serving. This night, rated one star, but the fact that your kitchen nails the pasta gives one back. You have the potential to have a fine little place, but details matter. Another place that slaps you in the face with a credit card fee surcharge at the point of receiving the bill. And I doubt that credit card transaction cost was ever baked into the price of their menu items before this year because drinks were on average $16-17 and pizza/pasta was on average $26-27 anyway, so this feels like just another way to extract a additional fee from you. Our bill was $505 but $525 if we paid by card. Who has $505 in cash with them? The additional $20 just felt like the business adding more fees on top of the included gratuity, which I feel once gratuity is included the incentive to be attentive goes down. And of course it's a percentage fee so more you have the higher the fee that's tacked on. It just leaves you with a bad taste. The food is good, but didn't feel like it moved the needle compared to other spots in the city so much so it would merit coming back and enduring these fees that they just add on at the end like a bad surprise. read more

Of the several eateries in the Chelsea-ish area of Manhattan running parallel to the High Line, this one was a beauty that wasn't terribly expensive and didn't have an annoying wait time to get seated. We were lucky to get seating immediately. It's actually a surprisingly large area for a restaurant, though that's more attributed to being on the near outskirts of Manhattan closer to the west side highway. Service was quick, yet possibly terse. That's probably due to the large party next to us. We got ourselves the following: Arancini Kale Salad Bufala Pizza Ortolana Pizza minus Mushrooms All the food was very very good and it was just the perfect serving size for a party of 4. I liked how the pizza was soft, yet not doughy. Very easy to eat. Big fan of the arancini too. I think I'd recommend to any group, especially those walking along the High Line. read more

I stopped by this spot as I was walking around Chelsea and wanted to grab a bite/drink somewhere around the area - the place is very nice and service is good too. I ordered an espresso martini which wasn't the best because the coffee tasted burnt , I then switched for a spicy mezcal cocktail to be honest, it was overly spicy and wasn't enjoyable (for context, I'm someone who can really handle my spice so this says a lot) I ordered the pappardelle tartufo and it was very good, the mushroom tasted delicious! My boyfriend got the cacio e pepe which I wouldn't recommend. The butter overpowered any other flavors in the dish. Overall, a decent Italian place for a date night and/or friend gathering (they had large table seating available). Prices decent and pizza delicious! -- This was a surprisingly accessible place for me, as someone who has allium (re: garlic, onion) tolerance issues. Their pizza sauce didn't have any garlic in it (just tomato sauce), which meant all their pizza was an option for me to eat. My partner and I ordered the campana to share and it was very well done. It wasn't too saucy, the dough/crust is definitely not the "NYC" style thin crust but wasn't too much in the mouth either. I probably would have been 80% full if I had just half this pizza, and my partner definitely wouldn't have been been completely satisfied. Their ravioli was our choice of dish to round off our shared meal. Not bad, though the cookie crumbles were a new experience for me. It added this sweetness to the ravioli that I'm not sure I care for -- though the pasta itself was quite good. Since the only garlic in this dish would have been in the butter & sage sauce, the server said they could leave it out for us. Definitely felt full after sharing both these dishes! One of the waitresses kept coming around to refill our water which was nice, though communication was a bit hard sometimes with the server. You just need to make sure you speak loudly and clearly (lots of music playing above -- a bit too loud for my taste tbh, took away from the dining experience for me). Might need to repeat yourself a few times but your order will get taken in the end! Not sure if this will become a go-to place for me, but good to find another pizza place that I can go to in New York (apart from Joe's) for a decent sit down dining experience read more

Came in with my friend after a long day of exploring the city on a Saturday evening. No line around 5:45 PM which was great for our hungry stomachs! Tip: check your water glasses. I found a lipstick stain on mine when it arrived, so I ask them to change it out. I really hope they're cleaning their dishes well, especially during COVID! We ordered a Chicken Alfredo and Calamari. The food was pretty good (better than any Olive Garden experience I've had) and was also a good amount to share between the both of us. I wouldn't make it out of my way to check out this place but is a good place if you're hoping to grab food or drinks after a long day like us.
