The shrimp and fish ceviche is fabulous. I got the shrimp tacos, she got the chicken chimichanga. Food was great. Go for the charro beans over refried, they are excellent. Did not get our margarita until after we finished our meal. The server didn't write any of our orders down so got a few things mixed up, but didn't want to bother her since she seemed frazzled already. I had such high hopes for this place and it definitely disappointed a little bit. We came on a Tuesday during lunch and got two of the lunch specials. My husband for the El Jefe, a fried chicken fajita chimichanga. When he cut into the first bite, I swear 2 ounces of oil came out of the thing. It was disgusting. He turned it to the other side and the same thing happened. It was soggy and greasy oil was every where. I got the fiesta plate with a cheese enchilada, tamale and taco. The taco fell apart because of the grease too. The meat was all cooked well and had a lot of flavor. The servers here act as a team and really try to take care of you. If it wasn't for them, I would have given this place 1-2 stars. read more

We're used to California Tex-mex. I almost choked on the fajita price. However, this was some of the best food. The beans were the best I've ever had- lots of cilantro and jalapeños. They make their own tortillas! Guac was good. Chips were salty and crunchy. Excellent!! read more

We enjoyed the cheese enchiladas and the green enchiladas verdes for a late lunch. On the strand, sat by The window on a beautiful day. The salsa and chips were delicious. The green sauce was creamy, fresh, and tasty. The red salsa was served piping hot. Now cheese enchiladas can go wrong and can be very rich, but Taquilos cheese enchiladas hit the spot. Chicken enchiladas were equally as tasty, green sauce was fresh, authentic, and very tasty. Rice was good for Mexican rice and beans were tasty sprinkled with crumbled white cheese. Enchiladas were plump, they double the corn tortilla...kinda ingenious if you ask me. So we had some trouble finishing them. Enchiladas served in threes and tipped with onions, so if you don't want onions ask for no onion topping. Pepsi products served, no sweet tea only unsweet. Will definitely be back. read more

I wrote my first review for this place because we had such a great time, and this past Saturday we went back and had some food instead of just drinks. I ordered the brisket burrito and have gotten 3 meals out of it! Great portions for the prices. It's also COVERED in queso which as a Queso Queen, is thrilling for me. I've been disappointed at other places who drizzle queso on and it's simply not enough- not Taquilo's, they know how to handle their queso! I must also commend them on their success with the green sauce; it's the best I've ever had. The salsa was very tasty too, but that green sauce was PERFECT. I ended up putting it on everything, not just the chips. The drinks were fabulous and refreshing as they were last time, and our waiter was wonderful (Connor S.) Even the waiter who was serving the table next to us was friendly and a joy to speak to, but I don't know his name. You've earned a new regular, Taquilo's. read more

Maybe we didn't get the right thing? Maybe they were having an off night? Maybe it was an after covid situation? Don't hate me, but I didn't LOVEEEEEE it. I tend to be the type of person to judge an establishment based on chips and salsa and well...this just wasn't it. Everything needed an extra hit of salt or seasoning and the service was not awesome. Not bad but not great. After quarantine, I totally understand how busy it must be but they ran out of glass cups and gave us to-go cups which is totally fine but when they DID get cups instead of giving us regular cups they kept our to-go cups. This is relevant because our server could never stay on top of our drinks. She couldn't see it visually empty, and asking her while she was running around was not efficient because often she would forget. Lose/lose for everyone. Here was what we got. 1. Fiesta Ceviche - 8/10 Needed salt. Just ONE hit and it would have been awesome. 2. Mahi Mahi Tacos - 7/10 Overcooked. My friend & I were sharing the ceviches and these tacos and each had one. We never got to three 3. Chicken Tinga Tacos - 6/10 LARGE tacos, and had onions that was NOT on the menu. 4. Enchiladas with the chili gravy - 7/10 Good, but not awesome. The chili gravy said to be brown gravy mixed with chili was just thin chili. 5. Chips & Salsa - 6/10 Cheat days are rare for me and I can eat a MEAL out of chips and salsa. Yeah, the salsa was not that great. The sour cream salsa was also okay. (Have you HAD Chuy's?) After the novelty of having chips and salsa, I just stop eating them. The chips were great, the salsa not so much. What was good was the rice. I know that seems like an added item but it was super delicious. Maybe we will try this again when we go back to Galveston and try something different. The hostess came with a dry napkin and smeared the leftovers on the table. I asked if they had any spray cleaner, he said no...watched him spread tomato particle around and call it good. SO FLAVORFUL! You probably eat Tex Mex all the time, but this...some magical seasoning guru lives here and makes extra layers of flavor and wonder reside in every single bite. The queso was amazing, the guac fresh, and the fajitas--there's not even words for them. I usually view the rice and beans as the annoying little brother you have to bring along to a party, but I'd take these rice and beans anywhere. We went to the Strand to find a good Mexican restaurant. We were seated right away. We had a very nice waitress that was very attentive. We both ordered margaritas blended, I am not much of a drinker but they were overly sweet and not any alcohol. I watered it down with my water and it was not so sickEning sweet. Our food on the other hand was excellent! My husband got the chicken besos and I had the Chicken Flautas that were fried crisp and served with sour cream and guacamole. The only thing better than a fantastic meal, is a fantastic meal with incredible service. We tried the shrimp besos appetizer, OMG! I could eat this every day. That was followed up with the most tender beef fajitas I've ever eaten. My wife had pollo poblano. Very delicious! But, our waiter #daniel was just as excellent as the meal.
