However, I receive a grilled chicken sandwich with no cheese and no tomato. It just has to be better than that, there's missing ingredients in something I fully paid for! Just came back from dinner there. From start to finish, it was a disappointment. First the bread. The bread was bland and was not even hot. Second, I ordered muscles spicy with extra garlic. The muscles were not spicy (I would question if they were hot). I ordered garlic knots and I did not taste a hint of garlic. Finally, I ordered pizza. You are better off ordering frozen pizza from the supermarket. The pizza had no taste. It also had too much cheese and not enough sauce. Finally, I was disappointed with the lack of garlic powder as this was the first Italian pizzeria that I have been to that did not have garlic powder. I furthermore found it concerning in that garlic is a staple of Italian cuisine but this place is afraid to use garlic or even garlic powder. The service was good however. I've been to Tarantella's on several occasions and the food has been generally good. Today I ordered baked ziti through DoorDash. Extremely disappointing. Baked Ziti should be creamy and gooey and saucy with lots of ricotta cheese, mozzarella cheese and tomato sauce. What I received was a dried out, tasteless clump of pasta. There was no tomato sauce to be found. Consequently the cheese was completely dried and the pasta was stuck together. Inedible. read more

Service was great. I had my food within 5-10 minutes of walking in. Nice people, nothing amazing. Decor was like an Italian diner. Unpretentious. I went with a dish I'd never had before, stuffed rigatoni with mushrooms and sun-dried tomatoes in a pink sauce. Mushrooms aren't always my favorite, but I like them alright. The dish wasn't great. Kind of bland, none of the ingredients tasted particularly fresh. I ate it, but I was hoping for better. Maybe I would have had a better experience if I'd gotten something more classic. Baked ziti? Very good pizza. I've been coming here weekly for a few years now, and over that time Tarantella's has consistently served up great pizza and great service. These are thin-crust pies, with good crust and flavorful sauce, especially on the Margherita. My train commute home once a week - a call to Tarantella's with an order for a chicken parm, an eggplant parm, and a mozzarella salad. Maybe a side of meatballs if I'm feeling lucky (sometimes they're fluffy and delicious and sometimes they're dense and dry - why?). The salad dressing really is special. I save the extra one they put in the bag and ration it for a week. The red sauce is pretty good. Not as good as my nonna's, but good enough. I think their version of penne vodka (Sparta) is just ok - needs more of a kick, and more pork. Ordered food for pick up on Mother's Day 2021 at 3:30 pm for pick up at 5:30 pm. When I went to pick up the food they said the order wasn't done and they had no idea when it would be ready. What? I canceled the order and did not even get an apology! (Also, restaurant area was packed with no social distancing.) I called the next day to speak to a manager who was very curt and said they hope I have a better experience next time. Next time? I am unsure if I should give a 3 or 4 with this review. Had my rehearsal dinner here about a year and a half ago and I loved it. it was my first time eating at this restaurant. Penne vodka and chicken Parm at the time and nothing but great things to say about it delicious!! Went back here today for dinner and was very disappointed that the chicken Parmesan rubbery and there was barely any cheese on it and the tortellini soup was broth filled half way up in a small to go container with two tortellini. Prices are average for a sit down Italian restaurant. So was very upset to spend over 20$ on a dinner for one that was less than mediocre. I don't know if it was different staff that day or new owners. What a great place!!!! We went tonight with 4 other families ( 9 Adults 10 kids), we called ahead and they had the tables waiting for us. The owner Andy, greeted us at the door and was extremely personable with our group. Our waitress Kim was patient, prompt and AWESOME!!!!!! Her attention to detail and nurturing attitude toward our kids table did not go unnoticed. The food was exceptional and the environment was warm and kid friendly!!!!!! Delicious, fresh italian food and very affordable! I ordered the chicken parmesan and shared it with my boyfriend. It was the perfect quantity for us to share and not waste any leftovers. Had some bread with butter that came out before the meal too. The chicken was juicy, perfectly seasoned and cooked, and the pasta sauce on the side of pasta was fresh tasting and delicious. The server took her time to come to us when we first sat down however (literally didn't come to our table for 10 minutes), and that's why I deduct a star, but the taste of the food made up for that in the end. Great food & friendly (but busy) servers; they are willing to substitute items. For example, Chicken Florentine... I ask for Shrimp instead of Chicken ~ no problem. Several of their dinners have capers in them ~ if not, I ask for them to be added ~ they are very tasty little "vegetable pods". The house salad is REALLY GREAT and I always choose the house dressing! You can order a large bowl for the table, but it's better to choose the individual salad (for $1.95) if you order an entree. Nice decor. It's a very busy restaurant most of the time. They will only take reservations if you have 6 or more people in a party, so I suggest that on a Friday or Saturday evening, be sure to be there by 5:30-6pm, otherwise you'll probably have to wait awhile. There are 2 choices for waiting ~ a bar or a very large waiting room with padded benches just inside the entrance. The desserts are delicious ~ many choices. The bathrooms are clean. We went here for my moms birthday in early October and the food was amazing! You don't normally have to make a reservation for small parties but we had to since we were 10 adults. They were very accommodating and had no problem even if we were running about 15 min late to our reservation on a verrrrryyy busy Friday night. Oooppss! I tried one of the specials... braised short ribs and mashed potatoes! So yummy! My mom loved the seafood diablo, a little on the spicy side but Delish. Some guy who works at your restaurant wore the shirt from Tarantellas to the local Applebee's and decided to cause a scene with their waitstaff for trying to make sure he wasnt drunk so he could go home safe. He proceeded to scream at the entire staff and curse them out loudly. He claims to be a front of house manager at Tarantella's. This behavior for someone who was cut off from drinking, from a fellow restaurant worker, was disgusting. Literally caused a scene. I went through a phase during high school when every week I either went to Tarantella's or Chili's, which is right across the street. It was a very convenient stop off the Garden State Parkinglot for dinner after my high school bowling matches. Now that I think about it, I don't know why we wasted time at Chili's. The atmosphere is somewhat like an upscale diner, very casual. Being kid-friendly, this place gets very loud on busy nights. There is also a bar on one side of the restaurant and on the other there's a takeout counter. You can also eat in the takeout area without being seated in the actual dining area. The food here is typical Italian fare with pizzas, parmesans, pastas, hot and cold subs, etc. I actually have never tried the sandwiches, but I can vouch that the pizzas are quality and their special pizzas are very creative. My favorite pizza, though it isn't on the menu officially anymore, can be ordered if the server you get has been there long enough to remember (ask for the Farmer - grilled chicken, red onion, spinach, black olives and a BBQ sauce/marinara blend yummy!). The pasta dishes are pretty good; I especially love their stuffed rigatoni in vodka sauce. The eggplant parmesan sometimes turns out very tough and rubbery, like eating a tire. I'll stick with Tarantella's for awhile, especially with their lunch hour pizza-by-the-slice deals. read more

Having grown up in the heavily Italian neighboring town of Scotch Plains, I have had my fair share of Italian meals. Whether the meal be prepared by one of my Italian friends Mothers or prepared in one of the many Italian kitchens in town. None can compare to Clark's Tarantella's. When you go to dinner at Tarantella's you know what you are going to get. High quality, consistent, great tasting food. The food is coupled with excellent service from the wait staff.
