This place used to be great. I was there at least once a week. However, since they came back from Mardi Gras break, it has been disappointing. Today, which will be my last time going, the Gumbo was cold, the FF and the toast must have been leftover from much earlier. The Catfish was extremely hot, but the Service was lackadaisical at best. What elevates the seafood here beyond nearly every other seafood shack is the quality of the seafood prepared perfectly. The best compliment I can give is that I ate the fried catfish and shrimp without any sauces. The well-seasoned coating and delicate flavors show through without accompaniments. We went to eat there with three families the other night. The place is a little out of the normal path but the full parking lot assured us we had the right place. We were visiting my sister who still lives in the Saucier area and she recommended Taranto's in Woolmarket for a Po'boy. I Got a Shrimp Po'boy and must say it was one of the best I have ever had! I also had a cup of their Gumbo, again some of the best I have ever had . Everyone in my party was super happy with what they ordered! The staff is super friendly and attentive. They have daily lunch specials that are awesome and very economically priced. The group at the table next to us had the crawfish special, it looked awesome and they were very happy with their order! Unique small local place that is worth the drive. Nothing fancy, just good food. Gumbo is spicy and wonderful, fried crawfish tails were delicious. My family and I just left here and we order seafood platter, shrimp poboys steak with grilled shrimp. First off let me say when we walked in we was treated by a young lady with respect and a smile. Our order came up to be over $80 and it was well worth it. When I tell you that seafood platter didn't disappoint. The crab cakes was the real thing and the oysters was friend just right and the fish and shrimp was so plentifully. The shrimps poboys included huge shrimp and it was pouring over. We had a trip planned from NC to D'Iberville to visit some friends we had not seen in a long time. We are from NC so before the trip I researched local seafood with one search word which was "gumbo". On the list of highly rated places was Tarantos Crawfish. and after more research and seeing pictures of it I knew it was THE "dive" I would go to for my search of the perfect gumbo. Went there Tuesday for lunch (12-3-13) and the only disappointment was they did not yet have crawfish on hand since for fresh ones it is a little early in the season. I ordered a pound of boiled shrimp and a bowl of gumbo. I should have ordered a half pound because the shrimp were huge....the kind we only get on an expensive shrimp cocktail in NC. Had the corn on the cob and boiled potatoes along with it and I and the others in my party we were overwhelmed with all the food. Brandi waited on us and took very good care of us and I think was amused by this NC boy. I don't know how or when but I do know that I will somehow travel back down there to Tarantos again and get some crawfish.....does this sum it up for you? Do not be turned off by the appearance of Tarantos.....it is a dive with caring people who know how to cook this stuff. I hope they never change a thing about their place. By the way, the lady that took our payment, I assume one of the owners, was very nice and endearing to us. Do not waste your money on glitz and glamor....get yourself to Tarantos. read more

We recently discovered this AMAZING GEM of a restaurant when we went out to get something to eat and all the "Cruisers" with their Antique cars here in Gulfport were all up and down Beach Boulevard for over ten miles with tons of traffic and all restaurants packed. After an hour of going nowhere we got on I 610 to get away from all this traffic. After an hour we found this awesome place and we were immediately welcomed to a nice booth by Christy nicknamed Cricket. She said we would be in love w her restaurant by the end of the meal and sure enough we are/were. We were starving and both ordered Ribeye steak dinners, came with a BIG salad, potato choice and 2 homemade dinner biscuits. I will honestly say I have been in the F& B business for over 30 years and I am quite critical. I don't complain, I just tick off in my head the negatives. This place was the best I have ever been to EVER at age 54, besides the ultra expensive 5* Bern's Steakhouse in Tampa. Steaks were cooked to perfection for both of us, and we are, as I said, picky as hell! Salad was delicious and huge with shredded cheese too, which I LOVE...Potatoes excellent as well, homemade biscuits superb! Now the service was AMAZING, everything came out fast, and dirty plates were cleaned away immediately, they all work as a team there. Kricket was beyond efficient. I use a walker and she even stored it for me, then when done, she retrieved it for us immediately!!! The steaks we had were $14.99 each and I made THREE meals outta that, and I am not a tiny girl, am 5'4" and we were both so hungry from all of the traffic and frustration! I recommend this restaurant completely and they have lots of seafood as well, all fresh. So we will now be back once a week! Please check it out!!!!!! read more

Wonderful, family friendly environment! The crab po boy was seasoned perfectly and cooked to a flaky goodness. My son gobbled it up in about 5 seconds. I had the gumbo which was a deep brown flavorful soup filled with shrimp, sausage and rice. It's the best seafood we have had in Ms. The quiet casual atmosphere is comfortable and friendly. We had the gumbo which was flavorful and just spicy enough and the seafood platter. To say this place is "out of the way" is a major understatement. At one point during the drive there my husband stated hearing banjo's. It is a total dive place. Rickety chairs, questionable tables, a soda machine steps away from everyone but DELICIOUS food. Started with fried pickles and buffalo shrimp. The buffalo shrimp were fantastic and I thought i was going to have to stab my husband to get the last one. The husband had a shrimp po boy that he devoured. The kids had a chicken po boy which was very enjoyable. I had a giant platter of crawfish, that everyone at the table helped me eat. I'm sometimes a little iffy on crawfish, but when in the South at a place known for their crawfish, you've gotta try a few mudbugs. They were amazing. All in all, a fun little joint out of the way with some quality eats. read more

This is exactly what we were looking for. We are staying in Biloxi by the beach where there are plenty of mega "everything fried" seafood places. This was worth the drive for a real crawfish boil platter (spiced just right for me) and great po boys. My family had crab po boys which I hadn't seen elsewhere to be honest (think crab cake po boys). Service was attentive and very fast. Parking can be a challenge but we squeezed in. The most disappointing eating experience in a while! My husband has food allergies and we requested the grilled shrimp not be cooked with butter. What he got (as a grilled shrimp salad) was white mushy shrimp (looked like they were poached) on a plate of shredded iceberg lettuce. Disgusting and flavorless. Come on, folks. After reading about the wonderful crawfish and needing our crawfish fix, Taranto's was one of the very few that were open on a Sunday. As soon as we gave the waitress our order, we didn't have to wait long at all for our food. It was hot and juicy! Our waitress was kind and helpful.
