As soon as I walked in the door it smelled like musty old wet wood. The coleslaw was horrible, it was mushy, no flavor whatsoever and appeared as though it was made about a week ago. "Just Nasty" The sweet potato's looked like old dried up black prunes and Just disgusting, the Arnold Palmer drink was nasty as well.... We so wanted to love this place. It's kitschy and in an old house. Service was great. Very friendly and personable. The bar is separate so they order it and total it on the bill. As for the food. If you want a southern experience, you can't beat a visit to the rustic, waterfront ambiance of Aunt Jenny's. I feel like I stepped back in time, and in the best way. We ventured south in search of fried seafood, and in this area of the country, there are no shortage of options. It felt meant to be when we rolled up to Aunt Jenny's and found an open parking spot right in front. We were greeted with a basket of warm, fresh biscuits and jam. The sweet tea was to die for. With a beautiful view of the sunset, the four of us ordered the same thing: Catfish Anthony. This was our first mistake - we could have easily shared two orders among the four of us. The portions were huge! The plate included a pile of rice and five crispy catfish filets, all covered in a healthy amount of a rich crawfish gravy. Between the giant glass of sweet tea, the biscuits, and the entree, I was completely stuffed well into the next day. This was disappointing, as it meant I didn't have the appetite for plate of their beautiful banana pudding. This is no fancy joint, but the worn wooden floors and antiques make it feel downhome and cozy. Our server was great, and the catfish was some of the best I've had - not too fishy, meaty and fried perfectly without being overly greasy. I have no bad things to say about Aunt Jenny's. My advice? I've eaten here a few times over the years and I've never been impressed with the food. Literally everything is deep-fat fried, probably including the salad and the one and only selection for dessert, banana pudding, but the food is MEDIOCRE! The menu is literally a single side of a sheet of laminated paper so the selection is EXTREMELY QUITE limited. The other side of the sheet of paper tells the "story" of the place, which you can read over and over again while waiting for your fried selection to make its way to your table. Yelp says there are vegetarian options, but I didn't see them. There are no vegetarian options I saw unless you want some rice.. but I'm sure they deep-fat fry it before it comes out. I had the broiled catfish filets and was absolutely NOT impressed IN THE LEAST with either the fish or this "creole" sauce in which they were drowning. Now.. the sauce.. that is very much a personal dislike and I'm not dinging them for that. It was very acrid and salty and not very palatable. People carry on about the "ambience" but it the view doesn't mean anything if the food is crap! There was a wheelchair ramp at the front door but once inside... steps to get down to the dining room. I was trying to work out the logic there but maybe I missed a separate entrance or an alternate route. Given the apparent average age of the clientele, you'd think it was more handicapped friendly. Also, the parking lot is dirt and gravel...very wheelchair friendly. They have a "gift shop" just in case the limited selection and difficult access weren't enough to remember the place by, but it looked less like a "gift shop" and more like a rummage sale and someone had cleaned out grandma's attic after she died. The value price point isn't there! For a single plate of three small, overly sauced catfish filets on a bed of rice was 30 bucks (with tip). It's massively overpriced. The icing on the cake is a HUGE pet-peeve of mine: charging the customer a "convenience fee" to use a credit or debit card. This practice is complete BS! I own a small business and that's just a cost of doing business! I understand having a "minimum" purchase to use a credit card but when one plate of mediocre food is 30 bucks, you wanna fleece me for a couple of extra cents to use a credit or debit card? That's just not customer-friendly! I literally eat here once every few years and not by choice. It's just a "fried-fish" joint so don't set your expectations to "11!" read more

It is a nice restaurant that specializes in catfish, shrimp, and chicken. Unfortunately, it's all fried. So if you are good with fried food you will be right at home. The views of the old live oak tree and the water beyond are fantastic. It's in a lovely, very old building but the floor is super sticky and could use a good scrub. Our server was very attentive and friendly and answered all our questions easily. We all loved the biscuits served hot with butter and apple jelly. The coleslaw was nice. It's hard to go wrong with fried food, but easy to lean toward mediocre. The fried green tomatoes were hard with a thick crust and the catfish were overcooked. We had the all you can eat catfish plate. The catfish was fried well, the seasoning was good and the fillets were meaty. It comes with six fillets on the first order and four more pieces second time around. And you can order more if you like it came with a side of french fries or yams. We ordered the yams which were cooked wonderfully very soft came with butter and brown sugar and cinnamon on the side. It also had a hush puppy with it, but it was very bland.. also they had a biscuit with jelly on the side, it was OK nothing special. The price was $22.95 for the all you can eat. The service was very good. They came around to check on you a lot. The restaurant is an old home that sits overlooking Biloxi Bay and it is gorgeous. All the rooms are filled with beadboard work, even the ceilings . They have a small gift shop inside, which was really cute. I checked out the websites online before I went and the prices are really outdated. Online they said that all you can eat catfish is $12 so somebody needs to update these websites. Been coming here for decades...always been great...till today . My catfish was fine. Hushpuppies were very bland. My sisters chicken, a breast a thigh and a wing...so very overdone and dried up that the meat had retracted away from the skin...like the consistency of drift wood. When we mentioned it to the waitress she brought over the manager. The manager said if it wasn't good why did you eat it? The problem was we didn't. There was no viable edible meat. But they didn't believe it and held to the story that it was already eaten. They finally conceited by bringing a few pieces of catfish for her to eat. This is a far fall from their former glory. Visiting in Gautier and someone suggested we eat here for fried catfish. I'm so glad we listened. Early arrival guaranteed a shorter wait time. We were immediately greeted with a basket of biscuits and apple jelly - yum! Three of us dined, two had catfish and one had fried chicken. Both were so fresh and cooked perfectly. The coleslaw is served in a large container for family style sharing. Fried green tomatoes were hot out of the kitchen. They were sliced a little thin but packed a big punch of flavor. This food is dreadful! The worst over coated bland catfish I've ever spit out! The shrimp were so tiny and few, good thing because they were tough, chewy and rubbery. The fried chicken was disgusting. My food had huge ruff cut onions, bell peppers and tomatoes in it with itty bitty shrimp, shrimp so small I thought the cook forgot to put them in the dish. All you can eat fried shrimp and fried catfish? Sure, let's do that for dinner. Friendly service from a young lady who was likely not old enough to drink the beer she served me. But she was lovely and attentive, getting my order for a refill of the dinner and returning with it quickly. The fried catfish was not heavily breaded and nor was the shrimp. I skipped hush puppies and just went deep on the self-serve cole slaw that was tasty and crisp. Many restaurants tend to go cheap when you order your second plate of an all-you-can-eat but Aunt Jenny's did not. A great portion of fried shrimp for plate number two and I was stuffed. I sat in the dining room with the view of the bayou. Only one other customer here so really good social distancing that made me feel comfortable. I got the large platter -5 pieces of fish with choice of sides, --fries and coleslaw for me-- and a bonus hush puppy. This catfish was delicious: firm, fresh and clean tasting (you know how sometimes catfish can taste like 'dirt'? Not here- ) Lunch for the large entree with ice tea under 20 bucks, and I couldn't finish it- boxed up a filet and some fries for later. Service was pleasant and 'on it'. Dang! This place is awesome. While the catfish was good, I found the fried shrimp to be the best I've ever had. Even the sides (cole slaw and sweet potato) and the sweet tea were excellent. Our waitress was friendly and prompt as well. I drive by this spot on most trips out here but stopped in based on a locals suggestion. It will be one of my new regular eateries when in the area now. I worked here for a little less than a year and I can tell you that the food is amazing!! And everyone who works there tries their best to make the customers happy and satisfied! My favorite thing to get is the fried pickles and the large fried shrimp plate with fries!! They also bring you out complementary homemade biscuits with the best apple jelly!! New to the area and thought for sure this restaurant would be a mainstay for many years to come. The online images, the building, the general vicinity, gives the impression it will be incredible. Unfortunately, considering I had several guests in town, I would have settled for "good". But, it was awful....truly, awful. The table was filthy, stuck in an incredibly cold corner, terrible service (laughingly bad), and horrible food. The chicken was hard as a rock, dry, tasteless. Cole slaw was small with no flavor. The sweet potato was undercooked and we had to ask 3 times for condiments. Staff was surly, unfriendly, seemed annoyed with basic requests. The dessert was a big glob of yellow goo and, for the 3 of us who ordered the pudding, 2 of us took one bite and stopped eating. It was straight out of a can (I could see the lines from the can) and they had run out of whipped cream so they gave a tiny dollop to the slop on the dish. It was laughingly bad. Our RV traveling buddy had catfish and fries. My husband had fried chicken drumsticks and fries. I had fried shrimp, hushpuppies and sweet potato that came with cinnamon sugar on the side. So, my hubby & I haven't been to Aunt Jenny's in over 9 yrs! Coming through town, he wanted to stop & check it out since it's been so long. Sooooo - we stopped. Our young waitress (can't remember her name, but long sandy brown/blondish hair - short petite) was so adorable and sweet. She was very attentive and sweet/kind. Our shoes were sticking to the floor as we walked to our table. I pulled out a chair to sit down and it was sticky too... I went to another chair to pull out and it was sticky too!!! Yikes! It just felt nasty. Ewww... . Fast forward everyyyyyything is fried! No green salad, nothing! All fried! Ughhh... From my hubby food, fish, shrimp & chicken (maybe everything else also) is fried in the same grease. Eww... You can see fish residue on the chicken. Yikes ... Anyhoo - on my hubby's 3rd order of chicken - the was RAW (red flesh) chicken he bit into. We waved to a lady and asked if she was manager, which she confirmed she "was". My hubby showed her the RAW FLESH:uncooked chicken he bit into. We absolutely ZERO apology and a dry bland face, she said verbatim "Ok, you want me to get you another piece?" I was thinking to myself - NO APOLOGY!! Like that's it... you want me to get you another piece!?? WTH!! He said ok... Out waitress came, we told her what happened... she was so embarassed and apologized for the raw chicken. My hubby told her - it's not her fault because she didn't cook it. Then here comes the "manager" (she had her hair pulled into a high bun).... She said it will be a little bit, they have to cook more chicken. My thought again... This is a WHOLE restaurant and you offering all you can eat and people have to "wait" a little bit (usually means over 15 mins) for more food??? Wow! About 5 mins later, we see anothe waitress pass by carrying chicken to another table... ok... we waited 15 mins and still no one came with more. Our waitress came back and apologized again and said it should be up soon. My hubby finally said - that's ok, we're leaving. . We proceeded to the front counter. There was the manager, she checked us out, order was roughly $45, she still had a dead blank look, so apology still, no I'll discount your order, no NOTHING!!! Gave my hubby his change and that was it! No thank you for coming - NOTHING!! Her attitude and NON CONCERN definitely- confirms some of the things I've heard previously about this place, also there will NEVER be another time I will visit this establishment. As a business owner myself, I know things happen like this, but the inconsiderate care/treatment from someone called a manager was disgusting!!! We will NEVER, EVER again. This must be a local place and everybody knows everybody and it's ok for them. This place has a world class view. It is the ultimate Gulf Coast view. It has the live oaks, Spanish moss, water, fish, dolphin, bird view. The staff is fun, attentive, and pleasant. The food is hit or miss. Most of the time it is good. Sometimes it is ok to meh. read more
