Finally had a chance to get into tarbell's Tavern for lunch it's a little more upscale then I usually eat for lunch but decided to give it a try sat at the bar the bartender was very friendly and attentive I ordered a salad it was pretty good I like the Candide pecans and cows goat cheese not sure what that is but it was tasty and the vinaigrette was mite but very tasty there Burger was okay not worth the 17 bucks overall it was good experience definitely want to go back and get their homemade chips and maybe try the place next door for dinner read more

This place was a gem I was actually quite impressed. Our server accommodated 10 people and divided all our checks. He was appreciative of this and even recommend some of the dishes. We had the seafood tartar, the tomato and mozzarella, and their shrimp appetizer. I had sparkling water while people drank tons of wine. I myself enjoyed my chicken with some mash potatoes. The size was the right size. They are known for their pastas and side dishes. I even ordered the spinach side dish it was to die for. Great Service from the waitress 10/10. Food was good 8/10. They let you substitute certain items, and you can order some items as half orders which is a plus. Being able to wine taste the wine before making a selection is plus. Also being able to select a bottle of wine from the wine store next door was a plus and then take it back to your table to drink. I usually check out the yelp pics to check out the food before ordering but half the items were currently not available like the shrimp pasta, deviled eggs, and soup during my visit. Prices not too bad, but dont expect big portions of food. They have valet parking cause you wont be able to find a spot in the lot if all the restaurants in the plaza are packed. read more

Decided to try this spot for dinner because I received a Tarbells gift card. The food was ok but service was below average. Server was nice but would go missing for 20 mins at a time. Took 45 mins TJ get our check after we were done eating. When we went to pay they said we couldn't use our gift card to Tarbells - same owner of both spots and they are Nextdoor to each other. The other night, before going to a show in downtown Phoenix, we had dinner at (Tarbell's) The Tavern on Camelback Road. We were referred there by a local ... and it turned out to be a marvelous experience. This place offers a casual, upscale atmosphere with both bar and table seating. The wine store next-door was totally visible via a low wall opening on one side of the establishment. We started with wine, snacking on deviled eggs with a whipped Dijon aioli mousse. We share everything (except our wine). Next we sampled Tuna tartare with a miso aioli, house-made ponzu along with soy beans and carrots. After ordering another glass of wine, we each consumed a bowel of wild mushroom soup. Rich and complex .... I could have made a meal of this treat. Finally we had the shellfish paella. It consisted on chorizo, saffron, a variety of fresh seafood including clams, mussels and shrimp. The grilled bread that came with it was a perfect compliment. The wait-staff was knowledgeable and professional. Our server was the best. While not the least expensive, prices were competitive for what you get. read more

Quick and tasty drinks before Tarbell's opened and pleasantly surprised at the cocktail menu! They do not serve hard alcohol so I always admire the craftiness and originality restaurants come up with. My husband drank a green flash IPA and I ordered the sake champagne mojito. Fresh and tasty! The Tavern - is special! I agree with another reviewer when they said the atmosphere is preferred over the next door Tarbell's. Tonight was an impromptu, first time visit to the Tavern. I enjoyed their Bourbon and Rye list and had two 1 oz pours neat. My husband had the lemon drop cocktail to start and a glass of Picpoul (a Cali. White). I asked about the scallop crudo but ended up getting an avocado and a barbacoa taco. Each was terrific. We were surprised with a complementary scallop crudo which was so delicate and lovely! My husband got the Scottish Salmon which was- Thanksgiving dinner and went well with his wine. Last night was honestly the best dinner I've had!! Came here for my birthday n my husbands birthday w some close friends. And got the calamari, escargot, octopus, Mac n cheese, n mussels as an appetizer. The calamari was lightly breaded w a great crunch and it came w two dipping sauces. My husband has never tried escargot and despite being a little weary to try it, he loved it! The octopus was giant and absolutely delicious n cooked to perfection! Needless to say, everything was heaven in my mouth. I got the basil gnocchi topped with lump crab and my husband got the steak topped with crab as well. He thought the steak was phenomenal better than any of the ultra high end steak places we been to and the crab was a good portion and so delicious!! My basil gnocchi was amazing! The buttery soft and chewy texture mixed w the crab was to die for! I'm so glad I took some left overs w me!! Also my gf ordered the side of cauliflower and it was seriously the best! Highly recommend this place for people who love great food and amazing selection of wine! I'm 10 pounds heavier from basically trying almost everything on their menu but the happiest!!! read more

Tarbell's restaurant is a Phoenix gem with innovative food from chef/owner Mark Tarbell. Part of the menu changes with the seasons and other items remain as on going favorites. Service was spot on by our server Allan and his assistants that helped clean up. Soup of the day was Butternut Squash. Rich, buttery and silky. A half bowl was sufficient. The Seasonal Chowda entree is chock full of salmon, swordfish, mussels, charred tomatoes, haricot and leeks. A beautiful rendition of Fisherman's Stew. The Center-Cut Tenderloin Filet with Lump Jonah Crab. Haricot, buttermilk mashed, with velvet dime-glace. The crab was served hot and on the side as requested to be shared. Cheesy goodness and the bisque was perfect; slightly tangy yet creamy. Shared a bottle of Mendel Malbec from their wine store. Only $30 and excellent. We do love this place, it's one of our favorites for a yummy burger. But they have to stop cooking smelly fish in the bar area. Maybe just take fish off the menu. It's really unpleasant to be eating with a constant waft of this smell, we couldn't enjoy our food and wine and now our clothes stink. This review is for the airport location for the Tavern in terminal three. Delicious wine, great food, more importantly, the service was phenomenal. A server named Jennifer is delivering the goods to a packed house. She is so busy, has a smile on her face, is knowledgeable about both the food and the wines, and is literally holding it all together with every table filled. The food is sooo good! Second time here and simply great quality food and super tasteful. We started with the scallop ceviche and the wedged salad. Hubs got the lamb burger and steak FF and I had carrot soup and a crispy avocado taco. Everything plated was delicious. I would have the soup everyday, it was perfect. My husband and I came here for a glass of wine before dinner at the nearby Tarbell's on Valentine's Day this year. There were a lot of customers when we came, but we were able to slip into two spots at the bar. It looked like half the people were getting food and half the people, like us, were there for a glass of wine. There were actually some reasonably-priced wine options, although of course they also had the several-hundred-a-bottle choices for you high-rollers out there. Our favorite wine bar is Vino Loco, in Flagstaff, but we've been looking for a Phoenix equivalent. Now all we have to do is see if they'll put up with a couple of people playing some board games while sampling their wine... next time. :) read more

The ambiance was great and as fans of Tarbell's it is nice to have great food but in a more casual environment. Plus owner Mark Tarbell came by our table to welcome and thanked us for coming in and as the night progressed I saw him do that with each table. That was a really nice touch and I haven't experienced that type of service with any other restaurant in town. We tried 3 of the 4 bikinis on the menu and they were all delicious, made with some of the best tasting bread I have had in awhile. Plus the portions are perfect to start and cut to sharable sizes, that is if you don't eat it all first. I ordered the chicken street tacos for dinner. You get 3 large tacos, which I really enjoyed but it was almost to much food for me, enjoyed the salsa verde the comes on the side. We shared the coconut cream pie for dessert and let me tell you that it was the most amazing dessert I have ever had. I definitely recommend ordering it, even if you don't think you could possibly eat anymore once you taste it you'll be licking the plate clean. They are only open for dinner which is a shame because there are so many items on the menu that would be a great lunch. Definitely plan on going back to try the burger. read more

This is one of those reviews that kills me to not give them five stars as the food was amazing. I can't believe my wife and I had never been there before but we decided to take our daughter and soon to be son-in-law there for dinner. We had an 8 o'clock dinner reservation and when we walked in five minutes early, they explained that our table wasn't ready because a table was staying longer than normal. We were fortunate to find two empty seats at the bar so we sat the ladies down and had a glass of their Zinfandel. It was a great glass of wine at $10 a glass. I thought we were getting off to a great start despite our table not being ready. About 20 minutes later, we were sat at our table. The place was packed with a lot of energy. We were greeted by our server and ordered the deviled eggs. They were very good. I ordered the shrimp with linguine. OMG...this is a must try if you love shrimp and pasta as much as I do. Everyone else at our table ordered the salmon with curried mash potatoes. They loved it! Here is where things went a little sideways. Our server, who was very nice, seemed to disappear. We wanted another glass of wine and she was nowhere to be seen. I sensed that everyone was focused on cleaning and resetting as it was getting late. I waited and waited and then finally had to ask a busboy to get our server. She finally came by and we ordered another glass but it left a sour taste with us because things had been so good all night. Nothing worse than feeling neglected during a dinner out. This is where the four star review comes from. It really was a five star dinner but the bait and run from the server dinged my review. Here is the good news: we will be back! We loved the place and the food. We just won't have a late reservation and might even eat at the bar. You must try this place! read more

We were celebrating our anniversary. We got there and there were rose petals on the table. The host came with Prosecco in the house. He explained the menu. The beets salad, wow We ended up having steak with beautiful potatoes and vegetables and pan seared scallops with some kind of potatoes with vegetables. The wines were excellent. We are frequent guests of Tarbells Tavern. I made a reservation several weeks ago for this weekend because we had a guest in town. I called the day of our reservation to confirm time and the request of a high top table in the bar area. We arrived at our reservation promptly and we were told they gave our table to another party. I asked for a solution and they said we could have a drink and wait....so we found a place to sit. A young gentleman came up to us to ask if we needed anything and this is where the "manager" Ilissa stepped in. She said, quote "I will handle this. He is new and knows nothing" right in front of the employee. What kind of manager would say that to an employee in front of guests. She then proceeded to tell me that I hurt the hostess' feelings because I asked for a solution. Ilisa was rude, incompetent and didn't provide any solutions. Why do we as guests make reservations, follow up and are still not guaranteed a table. Not good management. We will not be back!! read more
