Great that Target is NOW opening these type of stores in or around colleges such as UCI. These stores are specifically inventoried for students immediate needs, instead of a full sized Target Store. It's very similar to the Bookstore, but with a grocery section added. If you haven't seen it, go and visit, take a look around. IF you need more, then just Uber ride over to the Target Store on Barranca/Culver or in Irvine Spectrum. BTW, No discounts like the full-size Target Stores. read more

While I must admit having a location this close to campus is a big plus, this particular spot is awkwardly executed for my needs. Given the small size, it frequently lacks the things I typically look for. Clearly they've geared their limited shelf space to college "must haves". Much of the inventory is what you'd expect a Target to have during the "Back to School" season. While they do have some men's clothing, the selection makes the whole department a waste of space IMO. They'd be better off getting rid of the clothes and putting in more prepped food. They also don't have many value priced items. Expect to pay $8 for a bottle opener. The Instacart or Amazon Prime Now prices are cheaper and they deliver right to your dorm. The checkout situation seems strange to me as well. While there are a couple of full service lines, they are mixed in with the self service. It is just odd. The staff are friendly and generally well trained. However, I'm a little disappointed in one clerk who could have warned me about the "Just Dessert" carrot cupcake. When he asked if I had had it before when he was checking me out, I was tempted to put it back, as I was suspicious. I asked him if he'd tried it and he just thought carrot cake was risky is all. Turns out, it was a waste of $4. I know he could have warned me and chose not to. Minus one star for that. Overall, Target make like Miley and come in with a wrecking ball and put up a two story Super Target in its place. read more

i am way expired from my college years but it is absolutely SO WRONG of target to be financially tanking advantage of college students. the prices at this target location is undeniably higher than other targets in the area. the same shelf i bought at another location was $2 more expensive at this target. little adds up, and it is just not right to be charging college students more, if anything, the prices should be cheaper considering the financial burden most students bear with tuition. we recently had a shower caddy to return and they only credited us $14.99 when the item was for sale for $34.99. for the record, the same exact shows caddy is on sale for $28.49 online (see photos), that's a $6.50 up charge for students!!!! ridiculous. anteaters, i say save your money and take an uber down culver instead... or just order everything on amazonz. this target location needs some serious boycotting. read more

The associate who rang up my purchase did not know how to transact a Target App/Wallet purchase. She got 2 other people to help her. In the end, the three of them charged me twice for my groceries. I've been on the phone tree with Target corporate to explain the situation. After holding and being transferred 3 times, the representative hung up on me. When I called the store to try to talk to the manager and clerk that made the mistake, they don't believe that I was charged multiple times even though it is listed on my Target app. The lack of training wasted my time at the register, and then on the phone. Being a student at UC Irvine, I couldn't be happier that they added a Target. Great location with entrances on both sides make this very convenient for us college students. The selection is pretty big for the size of the Target and you can tell they took into account what us college students would need. Unlike other reviews stated, I didn't notice any huge markups. The staff is attentive and there are two check out locations on both ends of the store. Tiny Starbucks inside as well, if you're not into Pete's around the corner. Overall, will be visiting this location a lot for the convenience, simple layout, and nice atmosphere! read more

I showed up at 9:00pm with my friends and the security guard let us know they were closing. When we asked a simple question of can we please come in to get shampoo and conditioner since we were staying in a hotel, he approached us and aggressively squared up yelling that we needed to leave. I'm sorry, but for A grown man to aggressively approach and square up (literally) with 3 small girls, is completely inappropriate and gives me a bad taste of target. There was a grand opening event yesterday, so I went there. This particular Target is in University Center. In comparison to a Target that's in a bigger shopping plaza, this one has the square footage of a Daiso or a large-sized convenience store, and is just as convenient since most of the checkouts are self-checkouts. I only counted 2 human cashiers at the location. So I don't need to interact with anyone and that's a benefit. There are self-checkouts at the front and the back of the store. They put a divider at the back entrance for this event, though. In contrast, some of the items here are priced higher, which seem to be anything that a college student is likely to buy like TV dinners and board games. The Oregon Trail board game was $15.24 here, while the website has it at $12.99 and there was a sale for $11.99 earlier at one of the other Target branches, and if I remember correctly, the MSRP that I was requested to buy it at for my friend was $14.99. (By the way, we tried it out, it's not that good.) So I just looked around for something that seemed to be normal price for the item and bought it. The good thing is that they do have a tech section, though. (No, I didn't buy a Pokémon GO Plus, I don't have that kind of luxury, even if it was priced normally.) During this event there was loud music, making it very hard to communicate with anyone, and there were free samples. Everyone moved so slowly getting the free samples (not as organized as free stuff at a trade show), but at least they were free. Anyway, since the parking had a time limit on it I didn't get to take any photos of the mascot or get free Starbucks. (He walked off after 30 minutes of the event starting.) read more

I'm deeply saddened to give this location one star. But going in this afternoon made me sad. The prices are majorly marked up from every other target location around here, and the size is absolutely horrendously tiny. I know this location is to cater to college students and their simple/quick needs. But I feel sorry for any poor college student who gets suckered into buying overpriced basic items. Target store in the University Town Center is a sensation at the UC Irvine campus. Even though it is smaller than the other Target Store, it is seriously better than no Target store close to our campus at UC Irvine. I really love the air conditioning at the store. The Starbucks café in the Target store is a great place to go if the Peet's café is over-crowded. Both Peet's and Starbuck's are comparable, but if you get the Costco gift cards for Peet's, you may find Peet's coffee approximately cheaper by 30 cents for the same iced coffee. The downside for Target is that they bogged down too much on politics which hurt their franchise significantly. In my humble opinion, women should have greater access to their bathrooms. Whenever I go to the malls or places like Disneyland, women's bathrooms are always more crowded than the men's bathrooms. I do not understand why the news media do not cover the lack of accessibility of bathrooms for women since women are biologically different and need more access to their bathrooms compared to men. You know what I mean? Right? Women do get ill on the monthly basis. This is not a Target problem. This is problem for every franchise around the world. Women need more access. For me, I do not believe in equality since men and women are different biologically. Actually, I think women should have more access. There is a biological reason why women need more access to their bathrooms. read more

Very nice target! They have employees in both entrances and through out the store. So when I can ask questions if they have a certain product. Every time I've been here I find what I need. Prices maybe slightly more than other target but not too much. It's next to chick fil a and slap fish restaurants. You can shop and eat afterwards. I suppose for the space given and for its location, that it would have kind of the bare minimum of what a student would need. While it's a nice, convenient store nearby campus, it's not all that convenient when it comes to the things I actually need. They of course have things like frozen foods, snacks, household supplies/dorm type things, some clothes, etc. But sometimes I need something super specific (can't really think of it now that I'm writing this lol go figure) and I just can't find it for the life of me here which would make me have to drive over to another Target just to get what I needed. This feels closer to a 7 Eleven than a Target with the things they have. On the upside, this Target has a nice sit down Starbucks area which I can appreciate. read more

It is unfortunate that this Target store would price all of their products $2.oo more than what the original price is at a regular target. I brought this to the attention of the manager and he said, "Unfortunately, I don't have any control of the pricing. What we can do is price match the price at another Target if you show us proof." I informed him that the prices are also on the Target App. I also discussed the fact that this is sad that they would increase the price especially since this Target is located in a place where their customers are mostly students who are already in debt paying their student loans. The manager only reiterated that he is not in charge of the prices. Visiting from San diego I stopped by with my nephews ages 8 and 10. I noticed while at checkout the security guard was staring at my youngest nephew. Feeling uncomfortable i rushed through the order process and didn't notice I got the wrong item. Walked out of the store and noticed immediately right outside the door and went back in for an exchange. The lovely ladies at the counter helped me through this process very quickly. While being checked out for the second time the guard got closer toward the register and stared me down even when I looked back at him he wanted to keep his eyes on me. Feeling super uncomfortable i asked what he was staring at and he said "I'm just staring bro don't take it personal" as I walked by him to leave he said something under his tongue, I decided to leave and not escalate the situation. First time at this target and definitely the last, left feeling super uncomfortable. This occurred around 2pm on Wed 8/5/20. read more

It's mostly students that work here and they are not knowledgeable about anything, and frankly they care very little about Customer Service. It's very hard to get anybody to help you find anything in the store. The store is also the size of a Walgreens. It should be a drugstore. It is tiny. Got some really poor customer service here at this Target next to UC Irvine. I returned an item today and was assisted by a Target work named Ashley (female, African American, early twenties). My item was bought partly with a gift card and partly with cash. Ashley tells me "I have to refund it all on the gift card. It won't let me give you cash." WTF. Since when did you let machines tell you what to do? Is this Terminator 6 and the machines won and all of humanity is enslaved by machines? If I bought something partly with cash, I should get cash back. Don't tell me that IT won't let you, and then hold onto my cash- this is also illegal, genius. I had to change my tone with her and say "Then we're going to have a problem with that." In the end, Ashley got the cash but her whole attitude changed and there wasn't any pleasantness in her exchange with me. It's not my fault that you can't process the refund correctly, or have the common sense to understand that if a customer paid in part with cash, he would want cash back (seriously, this is common sense and financial intelligence). Target, step up and train your service staff better- this is one of the reasons we prefer Amazon so we don't need to deal with these types of people like Ashley. read more

I am delighted there is a "local" Target but wish the selection focused more on dry goods like bedding, clothes and body essentials. With Target and Walmart all the way up Jamboree it would have been nice to have a local store that offered some items that are offered locally but at a better price point. I can go to Macys for home furnishings and Trader Joes for food items but I like the idea of saving money especially for items that I need for the home or body. Nevertheless they have a nice Starbucks set up and do offer a condensed version of the larger Target. The have a small electronic section and an ok section for office supplies. No children clothes. The store employees seemed friendly and it is nice that so far it is not packed. I would come here if I was in the center for Trader Joes but since I work close to the larger Target on Barranca I would still go there. I guess I was hoping for more but it is still good in a pinch.... read more

This is an uber modern mini Target in Irvine. I ran in to grab a few things I needed to purchase while in the area. It is super clean and ultra organized. There is a pharmacy in the back and two unisex bathrooms nearby. You can self check out in the back too and head to the parking lot. It is an ideal mini store except for one thing, the employees follow people around rather than wait on them. My thought was they must have a lot of theft at this location because I watched huddles of employees watch and walk around customers while I was there. This store was the go-to Target back in my UCI days since they hadn't built the small Target in the plaza across campus. Honestly, the small Target isn't very good: it doesn't have much, it's more for the convenience of someone who doesn't have a car and cannot drive out further. Lucky for us, I had a car and used to drive us to Target every week when we lived in the dorms and our apartment to get the essentials. This Target has always been pretty reliable even when I have shopped there recently when I'm in the Irvine area. I am extremely upset and a little traumatized after witnessing a very disturbing incident at this Target a few days ago. A young girl was being cornered by 3 males (1 of whom, was clearly squeezing her too tightly, with his body fully attached to hers with his face an inch away from hers, as she was yelling out that she couldn't breathe). I saw the altercation from the parking lot right in front. When I asked what was happening I was told by one of the men that "everything was okay" and that they were "Target security." From what I saw, everything was NOT okay. This poor girl was attacked from behind, I saw a man yank her back by swinging his arm around her neck, almost in a choke hold movement. I am assuming maybe she went to walk out without paying? but the way this whole encounter occurred seemed extremely violent and excessive force was definitely used, as this girl must not have weighed more than 110 lbs.! I wanted to help her so badly but I was with my little girl so I had to leave, otherwise I would have done something to help her get these men off of her or stuck around to speak to the police. Shame on you Target security. I will never shop at/return to this location. If anybody else saw this or maybe even knows the female or of a way I could maybe make a statement or a complaint or something because what I witnessed was horrific and I want to make sure the girl is okay..because being grabbed by the neck from behind by a male is just never okay, I don't care what the situation is please send message to me. read more

Convenient because it's close to campus and offers Uci students more options to shop from besides albertsons and traders joe. The reason I'm giving it 2 stars is because they marked up their prices. I came in all excited to buy some stuff only to realize that it's more expensive than online and other target stores. I know this happens to albertsons but I seriously thought target would be better than that and not try to take advantage of students who can't afford to go to a farther one. If you're planning to shop here, make sure to check prices online at the same time so that you're not getting rip off. I went in and only bought 5 items I needed but had to pay more than $5 extra. Should have just drove to the farther one. Gas wouldn't even be that much. Of course this target is close and convenient but in the long run you can save so much money overall. read more

I have been looking forward to the opening of this Target for over a year! I ventured over today to scope it out, and was pretty disappointed. Unlike other reviewers, I understood that the location would be smaller than a typical Target. My disappointment lies in how Target chose to use the space they have. First, the LAST thing we need is another Starbucks. There is one literally paces away on campus, and a Peet's adjacent to the Target. I wish that they had used that space for a photo center. Second, I was really disappointed by the amount of space devoted to groceries! As a grad student on campus, I am pretty satisfied with the grocery options- TJs and Albertsons- near by. I wish the farmer's market were still at UTC on Saturdays, but that's not the niche Target fills anyway. Why devote at least 1/3 of the space to packaged produce and big-brand pantry foods when those things were already readily available within walking distance? I am also deeply perplexed by the emphasis on UCI apparel. After the bookstore became a Barnes and Noble, that is LITERALLY the only reason to go (everything else is so overpriced). Students already have enough options for UCI apparel, why not focus on different clothing options for students? Overall, I feel like Target is catering to the needs of undergraduates and ignoring the broader UCI community. As I walked in today, I noticed a father walking in with his young daughter. I overheard the father ask where the toy section was, only to be told that they have a minimal selection. I know that faculty, grad students and their families are outnumbered by the undergrad population at UCI, but it would be nice to see our needs attended to with consideration to home goods (that aren't dorm-room beds in bags and white boards), storage, photo printing, and toys. Finally, why are all the checkouts self checkouts?? Mine malfunctioned three times and I had to get help THREE TIMES to purchase 5 items. Target basically built a grocery store, that has a small selection of every other department. I hope that they will re-adjust the footprint of the food section and the Starbucks to offer what the community really wants and what Target does so well- home goods, school supplies, cleaning products, toiletries (especially the natural items), toys, clothing and a photo center. read more
