Doctors are great and I've found staff to be helpful so long as you purchased from the store. The policies and restrictions around prescriptions are intentionally designed to generate more revenue, which staff confirmed. For example, a contact prescription is only good for 90 days. After which you must come in for a new checkup ($125), to essentially get the same prescription (unless your eyes change in 90 days). The reasoning: to limit customers ability to stock up on contacts without an annual checkup. Who stocks up after 90 days?! A nine month period would be more reasonable. I was seven minutes late and they gave me the look. Then the doctor won't take me and asked me to reschedule. I asked about the grace period and they said seven minutes. Well. Ok. The staff said I need to complete the paper work so i have to arrive 15 minutes earlier than my appointment time. But I got multiple email reminders and none of them said that. The woman who gave me an eye exam (I wish I remembered her name) was thorough with the exam and double checked everything to make sure my first pair of glasses were perfect for me. My first visit taking my daughter was fine. When she received her glasses that she ordered, we took them home and she wore them for a week. She didn't like how they made her feel. So we reschedule another doctor visit at no extra cost and this time she saw Dr. Irene. He was amazing and confirmed that her prescription was way off and incorrect. The other doctor even prescribed that she had an Astigmatism which later we Dr. Irene confirmed that she didn't. I do recommend Target Optical for their service and policy. You have 90 days to try and feel for your glasses or contacts. If the prescription reds to be changed or you just changed your mind and didn't want them after all you can return for full refund or new doctor visit for new prescription at no extra charge. And definitely see Dr. Irene. He knows what he's doing. read more

Dr. Coffman is awesome I absolutely love her. I have been coming to this location for years because of Dr. Coffman. However the staff here is not so good. I had an 11:00 am eye appointment today, I received a message confirming this eye appointment. For some reason the staff canceled my appointment. Unfortunately a doctor is only as good as their staff. Update! I talked to corporate and they don't care how long time patients are treated either. Pay attention to the reviews about shitty service from their staff. Had a 10am, which i showed up to at 10:05. The lady at the front ignored me until 1015 and then proceeds to say the doc can't seem because im late. She then takes on another girl who was waiting to see if i would show up for my appointment. had a really bad experience there. they do not clearly disclose prices for eye exams...and then i was told that they could not write a prescription for my brand of contacts!!! why don't they inform the patient ahead of time of this possibility???? why don't they ask for the brand of your contacts when you make your appointment to check on availability & these restrictions???? is the optometrist - Dr. Portnoy - lazy?? incompetent?? or are they trying to force you to buy more expensive contacts??? Due to a change in insurance, I decided to give Target a try for an exam and new glasses. I stopped by one morning just after they opened to check them out and since someone was late for their appointment they were able to accommodate me on the spot! I found both Dr. Portnoy and Laura to be very efficient and friendly.They have a great selection of both everyday and sun glasses. Laura was very good at helping me find the perfect styles for me. First they don't know are unwilling to email a prescription. They can fax it somewhere though.. they snail mailed me my prescription for contact lenses except when I received it it wasn't a prescription for contact lenses it was for glasses... I can't help but think this was a petty micro aggression for questioning why on earth they were unwilling to email me a prescription, so now I have to wait for them to snail mail me again... hopefully this time they'll get it right, I'm doubtful.. read more

Dr. Coffman was great! She is located right inside of the Target Optical center at Desert Ridge and has a great staff that walk you through all of their pricing for glasses and contacts. The appointment was quick and painless and she was very friendly throughout the whole thing. After buying my contacts they let me know as well that I am eligible for 50% prescriptions frames (still expensive), but this is a nice benefit of her being located within Target. Overall great experience and no pressure sales to purchase frames onsite. read more

First let me start by stating that I did like Dr. Coffman. She was knowledgeable and took her time with me. I had my eye exam on June 15, 2018. I wanted progressive lenses. I could not find a pair of frames at Target. I shopped around and finally settled on a pair. I understand progressives take a bit of getting used to. My problem is I need an adjustment in the prescription. I cannot find a spot on the lenses that will allow me to work at my computer and this is my job. So this is very important. I called Target optical on 9/19/18 and they told me it was not a prescription issue but an issue with the frames/lenses/product. I went to where I got the frames/lenses from and after a mini exam, some measurements and a lengthy discussion it was settled that I needed re-check with Target that my prescription just needed some tweaking. I called Target optical on this day 9/24/18 and they told me I was out of the window for a re-check and that I would have to schedule a new exam. Which my insurance does not cover. I asked what the time frame is for getting a re-check and was told it's 90 days. The reason I am giving them such a low rating is because I feel that given the progressive lenses and the need for getting used to them and a possible minor tweak of the prescription that they should have seen me and did a re-check. So if we are splitting hairs it's 11 days after their 90 day policy. I will not return to Target Optical and I will voice my opinion to friends and family discouraging them too as well. read more

I have been going to this target optical for a couple of years now. Every time I go there I never have an issue and they always have good prices on their glasses. They are aware of what insurance covers you and what insurance doesn't and they also give you their honest opinion when asking what looks best as far as glasses.so I would recommend him and I just bought two pairs of glasses and will be going back again next year. I also might add that it's very convenient when they post their hours for appointments so a lot of times you can just walk in and get an Eye Exam. An absolute comedy of errors at every turn. I have never had such an infuriating experience with any optical store before. They ordered lenses that didn't have an anti-glare coating when I had stated several times that I wanted it. I had to return to the store, drop off the glasses, and wait another week for them to correct my order. They never called or texted me to let me know when my glasses were ready for pickup though, so I ended up waiting even longer. Then when I listed my complaints to an employee on the phone, she cited the fact that the store was very busy due to it being "Back to School" as some sort of justification for their horrendous customer service. I can't say enough nice things about Dr. Coffman and Anna! Dr. Coffman was able to squeeze me in as a walk in and gave such a thorough exam. I had previously had some issues with my contacts and she made sure that the ones I got were the right fit! My wife comes here with our kids, I'm not sure why... my experience was unimpressive. The doctor didn't get along with the staff, the staff seemed untrained and unsure of how to use their ordering system... eye exam and ordering 2 pairs of glasses took 3 hours (not exaggerating). And another guy was there and he looked like he had been there as long as I and we exchanged "hang in there's... " and "they'll get it eventually"s... when I came to pick up my glasses, there were 7 people in line, and one guy at one of the 3 tables just got up and walked away and said "good luck" as he passed... took 30 mins to get through the line, worst $600 eye care experience. They are under staffed and too cramped and under-trained. read more

Dr. Coffman is commendable and no qualms whatsoever. However,the optical store is to be avoided at all costs (ok, not true, if you have a huge wallet, filled with money that you do not care for, you can afford the costs). There are always "special" deals, but the bottom line is that the glasses are expensive. Moreover, Target really pushes the package deals (e.g., two sets) and the upselling (nonglare). Check out the prices of lenses only sites. You can get complete lenses (with nonglare) for less than the regular lens at Target. I recently had to have a lens replaced due to a scratch. According to the manager, the optimal solution was to buy one pair of glasses at regular price ($300+), buy the second pair (same as the one with the scratched lens) at a discount (~$233). Went to Lensabl.com and was able to get new lenses (they ship a box to you, you send your glasses, they send back your glasses with the lenses) for $79 all in (nonglare, etc.). You can do this with any set of frames -- current or not. You can get other types of lenses (e.g., sunglass lenses) for a bit more. If you have your prescription information (ask the optometrist to provide it to you and they will give you a written version...you type this into a form on the screen) it is cheaper by $10 per lens...but if you do not want to get a new prescription, just send the existing glasses in they will figure out what the previous prescription was and match it. In fairness to the staff at Target Optical -- they were always friendly. Always. Just really a lot more expensive than was warranted. There are so many online places now that do just as good of a job. You do want to make sure you are getting quality frames, but given that most of these places also have money-back guarantees...the downside is incredibly low. Keep in mind that Target will tell you that it can take 10 days to get your glasses in...not a lot better (or worse) than any online site. The difference is that you will have to pay through the nose at Target. Do check with your insurance companies. Whereas with Target they can often work with the insurance company directly, the discount really is not that amazing all things considered. If you go online, you will have to pay out of pocket to begin with but will get (my experience) almost all of the money back (given prices are much lower) once you submit the receipt. I have been coming to this location for 8 years and I will now never return. Doctor Coffman is an amazing doctor, I only wish I could say the same about their staff. I made a same day appt online to come in for an eye infection. I was running behind and called to let them know and ask if I could still come in. The lady I spoke with said yes that's fine as long as you are in by 140. The parking lot was full but I parked and ran in. I came in at 141 and they refused to see me. This was incredibly infuriating. ONE MINUTE ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!? My eye is incredibly irritated, swollen and leaking puss. I asked if he could just write me a script so I could get some form of relief and they still denied me. The lady who I spoke with on the phone was ridiculously rude. She looked at me and said "sorry sweetie, I said by 140." I've never been treated with such horrible customer service. I will NEVER return!!!!! read more

I am very new to the vision correction world and was unsure of next steps. I spoke with someone here yesterday, I cannot remember her name but I sincerely wish I could. Anyway, she took my social and said she would try some things to see if my odd insurance would suffice for the eye exam. Well when I called back today the lady who was possibly the LEAST helpful human being ever, Laura, who basically seemed as if she did not care and would love to be doing anything else other than, oh I don't know, her job! Anyway, I called in prior to my appointment to see if the woman I had spoken to previously had any luck with my insurance and this "helpful", (NOT), lady just said "no that isn't in here, just paying out of pocket." So the lady the previous day took my social security number and did NOTHING! Then the rude Laura just was like "oh yeah, well shit happens" basically. I canceled my appointment immediately and I will NEVER go there and I will redirect every one I know to go somewhere else. These people are NOT professionals and they certainly do not care in the slightest if you have issues or need assistance. DO NOT GO HERE. Pretty sad when people are supposed to be in the field of helping those in need in that particular area and they do not care at all. Shame on all of them. Shame on you! read more
