The optometrist is ok however the Target optical where they sell glasses is the place you need to avoid. They will do anything they can to make you spend your money, talking down at other glasses stores. They tried to make me order glasses there without my consent. I told them I do not want to get my glasses there and they still put my information into their system without my consent. Avoid the hassel and find an honest optometrist and order glasses where they have better selections and service. read more

This review is about Emily who is one of the managers at this location, her rudeness and horrible customer service. I visited this location to get my eyes checked and purchase glasses. The experience with the eye doctor went smoothly, but after noticing unexpected charges on the bill for my glasses, I questioned the employee, who was unable to explain the charges clearly. When I checked the prices on target's website, I found the same glasses for $80 less. I called the store to ask about returning them and was told by Emily, the store manager that I needed to come in person. Upon arrival, Emily refused to process the return, stating it was against store policy and even threatened to ban me from the store. She was dismissive and said it wasn't her problem. After pressing further she admitted that she could have given a refund, but only for customers she likes. I refused to leave until I got the refund and she eventually gave in. When I asked for a receipt for the refund, she refused and told me to "take a picture" instead. As I tried to do so, she yanked the receipt out of my hand and said, "I don't want you running off with it," which felt completely disrespectful. To make matters worse, she informed me at the end that she had been recording our conversation without my knowledge or consent, which is a clear violation of California's privacy laws. The silver lining is that Target Corporate took my complaint seriously, followed up by phone and email, and conducted an investigation at this location. They also informed me that the employee involved will be addressed accordingly. Kudos to Target corporate for their response, but avoid Emily if you want to avoid unnecessary frustration, and invasion of your privacy rights by being recorded without consent. read more

I've used Target Optical before on Capital Expressway and was not impressed. I decided to try the Target Optical on Cottle Road and was very impressed. Dr. H. was very professional and through. She found some issues with my eyes that no one has picked up before (age issues - LoL). She answered all of my questions and I felt heard and very confident in her abilities. The office staff continued this very positive experience with my looking to update my lenses, check my insurance and some other things. I did not feel rushed or pressured. 4 stars... Jessica the optical employee was very friendly, knowledgeable and professional. They allow only one party / person at a time; masks required at all times. They didn't take our insurance, sadly, but gave us $100 discount on our purchase for first time customer. Their prices are reasonable here. Minus one star because their selection for children's eyeglasses are so limited, and It takes up to 14 business days (three weeks!) for one pair of eyeglasses to be made and ready for pickup. read more

In August of 2023, I went to Target Optical as I was in need of new contacts. Target was the closest optical that was covered by my insurance. The contact eye exam went great, however, the eye glasses exam did not. After I finished my contact eye exam I was made aware that they had trials of a new colored contact brand since my usual one was discontinued. I was given a pair with no prescription to try on to test. This new brand has two different types of grays so I was unsure which one looked more natural. I picked one of the colors and sat back down to take the lens exam. The contacts were making my eye dry and it was a little hard to see given that they had no prescription and were just sitting on my eye. I didn't think anything of it until I paid and was given a copy of my prescription. My contact lens exam had the same prescription I've had for the last 2-3 years. However, my glasses almost tripled in prescription. I then went out to inquire about contact pricing. As soon as I asked, the lady that was assisting me called her manager to come help. She seemed very stand-offish and told me that they no longer carried my the brand of contacts I had been using for the past 15 years. She told me to find it somewhere else if I could since they no longer made them. I told her I wanted to test the color on the ones I had as it was new to me. The new color looked extremely fake so I called to ask if I could also have a trial of the other shade. They hesitated but after a few days called me to pick up another trial. Since I didn't like the customer service I decided to try to get my contacts and glasses elsewhere. To my surprise I couldn't get contacts anywhere bc my prescription was made out for the discontinued brand. I had to order from 1-800 contacts and pay full price since my insurance doesn't cover them. As for my glasses, the prescription was too strong and I couldn't see. I was told I could have a follow up because it was covered by my insurance, however they refused to let me see the optometrist again. I then asked for a copy of my contact prescription and if they could change it to the other contact brand. I was told I couldn't because that's not the contacts that they measured my eyes for so I had to make a new appointment. I told them that no in fact that was the contacts that I tried on and again they said they would call me back. I was tired of the hassle so just asked for a copy of the original since they wouldn't give me a new one for the contacts they gave me a trial for. This time they changed my prescription from two years to one year because the front desk lady said there is no way even though she was looking at my original prescription that said 2025. Again they didn't let me see the optometrist. I ended up having to pay for a new exam out of pocket for a glasses prescription elsewhere. Not to mention I had to spend over $600 on contacts because of their mistake. A year later I get an email and a postcard in the mail with an appointment for an eye exam. They scheduled me without my consent for another appointment. After the horrible service from the front desk, there is no way I can recommend Target for an eye exam. Go to a local optometrist instead. Much better service. read more

this review is about JESSICA. i've been a customer at target optical for just over a year now and have had no problems or complaints up until today. I came in for an annual eye exam on 9/5/2020 and ordered a new pair of glasses. jessica helped me out wonderfully during this time and i left with no issues. 2 months later i FINALLY get a call that my glasses are ready to be picked up, but i tried to be understanding considering the current pandemic (although i've received things from out of country in less than a month during covid, so i'm not sure what the excuse is here). i show up today to pick up my new glasses and am informed by jessica i need to give her my old frames first. i tell her that i was not informed this during my initial appointment and that i live 40 minutes away. obviously upset, i tell her that it's ridiculous that i was not informed. jessica has the audacity to give me a dumb look and says, "well it's a redemption through your insurance...why would i just give you another pair of glasses?" EXCUSE ME? then, after i consistently insist that i was not informed by whoever helped me previously, she responds, "well that was me. and it's part of my schpeal to say it soooo" well obviously you forgot this time you incompetent b#%^* because i would have definitely brought my old pair with me if i knew that you were going to waste my time. if you like to be misinformed, wait forever for products, be talked to in condescending tone, and be treated as if you're the dumb one then this target optical is the one for you! i'm aware that jessica has a mix amount of reviews on this page, and i used to think those people were crazy for thinking so. but now that i've experienced the dark side of target optical and employees, i definitely won't be returning here, and i highly recommend that you don't either. read more

I went in today for my yearly eye exam and contact lens prescription. I must say I received excellent service. The doctor is so nice, patient and kind. She is truly exceptional. Dr. NguyenChan took a picture of the inside of my eye which gives a very accurate portrait of my eye health. I truly appreciate the fact that the staff is very courteous and helpful. I was looking for an eye exam without insurance, so the $65 eye exam offered here was ideal. Made an appointment with Jessica and the experience was straightforward; nothing unexpected about the process, thankfully. Dr. Nguyenchan wasn't intimidating at all but very personable compared to other optometry offices (it felt more like talking with a nice friend). Of course she was knowledgeable, and I could see that she cares about her work and patients. Would I recommend her? Definitely. I would consider this place again in the future! read more

My daughter first eye glass and choice the Ray ban brand. Since I was in the budget I didn't agree on the brand. But, Andrea was really helpful and showing me all the discount because she's a teenager and I agree on it. Come the glasses and JESSICA is telling me it's misfit that the name brand logo wasn't in the lens and she will order and we can picked up as a loner after a few minutes ago she called back again saying that she was avail to put it back. Dropped in to pick out new frames and progressive prescription lenses, no appointment. I was very impressed with the cleanliness and covid protocol - felt very safe entering and shopping for eye wear. First off, everyone must have a mask just to enter Target at all. Additionally, only a few customers may be in the optical department at a time, and all staff wears masks, gloves, and face-shields. Any eye wear touched by customers must be put into a tray, which is sanitized afterwards. All areas touched by customers are sanitized afterwards. I felt very comfortable and safe trying on the frames, actually putting them on my face. I tried shopping for glasses online,but...I just have to see what they actually look like on my face! They were a little understaffed, and the poor employee who was managing the sales alone was doing as best as she could and kept a positive attitude, which helped with the situation. There were two customers before me when I arrived, and so it took about an hour before my turn. They took my number and I shopped around Target a bit, but returned before they needed to call me. When it was finally my turn the sales associate was great, she collected my insurance info and ran it (which took no time at all), figured out my total expenses (which was WAY cheaper than my normal eye doctor!). I had already narrowed my choices for the frames down to two, and so my whole turn only took maybe 15 minutes. They estimate two weeks for the frames & lenses - I'll return and update review after receiving the glasses. So far, highly recommend, great service under covid conditions! read more

My go to for vision check up. Recently, placed an order for my contacts, however the ones received didn't align with my contact brand of previous history. I called and spoke with Jessica. She was able to handle the issue with calmness and patience. She worked with Dr Nguyen to correct the issue and find a solution. She understood that I was on my last pair of contacts, as I need them for a wedding this Saturday. She then expedited my order. Fingers crossed they come today (wedding is tomorrow). I was in need of getting contacts and glasses since my current ones are 6 years old. Dr. Liz NguyenChan is such a sweet and detailed optometrist. It was my best experience getting an eye exam ever! Most of the other places that I've been to just rush everything and try to get you out the door asap. Her assistant Joy helped me with my new glasses and was very attentive as well. I was really surprised at the name brand selection that Target had. Ended up getting a pair of green Rayban glasses that I instantly loved! So my wife was in dire need to have her lens frame repaired and the lens came off. Simple repair if you have the right micro screw. It was a Sunday late afternoon, Father's Day. She leaves for New York that evening. Called so many places and they are all closed on Sunday. Didn't know there was a Target Optometry department in Cottle Road. Called and spoke to Andrea. She sounded sweet, and told me to come right away as they were closing in less than an hour. Got there half hour before closing, and she helped me right away. Despite I notice other customers coming in and noticed things were getting busy, her assistant help the customers, but Andrea remained focused on her task at hand as she tried practically to fit the right screws into my wife's glasses. I was starting to feel bad that I was taking a lot of her time, but she remained enthusiastic and never stopped smiling. I apologized and thank her for her patience, and she assured me that she'll get the job done. After half an hour, she found the right one and was able to secure the lens into my wife's glasses. I thanked her greatly and asked her how much for the repair? To my surprise, her response was "your smile is the payment." Wow! I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I took out $50 to try to hand her, but she told me to keep it and that the repair was free. Now this is the kind of service that you don't see often anymore. It was like a labor of love, and I can tell Andrea is a genuine good-hearted woman. I couldn't stop thanking her and still couldn't believe her wonderful service, patience, and sweet smile. I promised her I'd mention her on Yelp, and that seemed to comfort her. I came home handed my wife her glasses and she told me that I was her hero. I did, however, told her the real hero was Andrea, Manager of Target Optometry (Cottle Road). Andrea if you are reading this, you're the best. It was time for me to get contact lenses & since I don't have insurance I was on a hunt for an affordable place! I'm so happy I found Dr. Nguyenchan! She was very nice to speak to and was extremely helpful with any of my concerns. I did not feel rush at all even when I gave some concerns about my vision after the contact fitting. The whole exam was very thorough. I ended up buying a whole years worth of contacts & it was cheaper than Costco where I usually buy them at. Tip if you have a target red card you get 5% off of the contacts/glasses but it doesn't apply to the exam. They also have a lot of affordable glasses, even some high end designer brands. Tran and Jessica have been super helpful in getting me set up with glasses that I love - they were both infinitely patient as I went back and forth between frame choices, and were just very personable and easy to work with as we navigated all of the discount options and warranties. Also, the new Optometrist at this location is really nice and goes out of her way to introduce herself and make patients feel welcome and at ease. What a great team! My visit at Target Optical was the most welcoming experience that I have ever had from a Optometry Store. Unfortunately, I did not consider the weather when I made my appointment, as it was pouring rain. I came in from work on my motorcycle, so my boots, pants and jacket were soaked and dripping. How embarrassing! I wanted to buy new pants so I wouldn't ruin the office chairs in the store, but JOY insisted that it was not a problem and that I can sit anyways. Still, I declined her offer to sit down and proceeded to fill out the new patient form while standing up. JOY then offered me to sit down on a plastic bag covering the seat. I was entertained by the idea, so I accepted her offer this time. :) How cool of her to make me feel like a special guest. I finished my patient info form and handed it to LUCY, the second store associate. LUCY and I had fun joking around a little choosing different frames for me to try on. Fifteen minutes, passed and I was then brought in by Dr. Nguyenchan. I was perfectly happy with the wait time since the doctor was able to squeeze my appointment in between two others. Dr. NguyenChan is very detail oriented and truly cares for her patients. When I got my eyes checked, she noticed that I was wearing the wrong prescription and informed me about my astigmatism. I thought it wasn't a big deal but she encouraged me to try other options. She gave me different trial contacts so I could try which brand fits best. I am able to see much more clear than before. In the past, I've experienced eye doctors that just wanted to rush and just give me my contact prescription. I'm glad that I have found a permanent place to get my eye's checked.
