This was my first time here! Tarka has been on my list of restaurants to try. The restaurant is right beside Trader Joes which makes it a very convenient location to eat then go grocery shopping. Parking was easy, but that area can get busy with all the different businesses. I ordered the tikka masala at a medium spice level. I really enjoyed this dish! Staff welcomes me and explain what the menu was and the rewards app. The server suggest the coconut curry which I ordered it with veggies. The curry came out tasteful and temperature hot. The veggies were cook evenly and it came with basmati rice. I ordered this Togo so the rice was separate front he curry. All together it was a total of $10.28, not too bad for lunch. I was craving some curry and wanting to go by Trader Joe's and this happened to be right next door, so win win. This place has a nice vibe with big windows and plenty of tables for a smaller place. My only conplaint was the lady at the register who had no smile or personality, but the lady who delivered the food to the table was all smiles and the food spectacular! I ordered the Tikka Masala and it was perfect on spice and flavor. There are options to go hotter, but it was already a hot day so I went with mild, and it was still full flavor. I've got a lot of check-ins here, but this my first time reviewing. I haven't been here in a long time, but a recent Groupon purchase ($20 worth for $14) brought us in this time. The food isn't as spicy as it used to be. When they first opened, you could order the HOT spice level and it would singe your tastebuds off. They've toned it down to "tourist" levels now, so it's not as fun. It's still good, comes out nice a hot, and service is quick, although not friendly. We ordered samosa chaat, chicken tikka naanini, biryani, and the lamb & rice kid's bowl. With the $20 Groupon deducted, we paid less than $8 for our food. Samantha was our cashier this trip and also delivered the food. It was obvious from her affect that she had better places to be. Her manager might encourage her to check her attitude at the door or loosen up her RBF a bit. There were 3 of us, yet she handed us only 2 fork & napkin sets. I had to go back up there and ask for another fork - she didn't seem happy about giving it to me. When the food came out, the lamb cubes in the kid's meal needed a knife. Knives were not included in any of the 3 utensil packs we were given. So, we go up there again to ask for a knife, and she actually argued about it, stating that knives are included with the forks and napkins. No. No, they are not and my son is going to choke on the 2" cubes of lamb you served him. If your employees can't be bothered to do their jobs, then put the utensils by the take-out boxes and drink station items so customers can get what they need themselves. Luckily the food is good enough to retain 4 stars. Ignorant, rude employee costs only 1 star in this review. read more

Me & my family just tried Tarka for the first time today (I did a curbside pick up order) & it was ready right when I got there! I got the Samosa Chaat with a Mango Lemonaid & Garlic Naan Bread. I ate it all so fast that I didn't even get a chance to get a picture of it beforehand! It was so so good, I'm really impressed and I definitely recommend!! I'm not sure exactly what everyone else in my family got, but everyone was super happy with what they chose - no complaints, just really happy full stomachs! Sooo good! Love that chicken is hormone free & lamb is grassfed (& halal). Also, straws are made from plant based materials. Ok, now to the service & food. So flavorful! Saw a show about this, so we went and ordered chicken vindaloo. Some of chicken and potatoes were cold, so that means it is ot cooked together with the sauce. I ordered chicken tika masala and garlic naan bread. The bread was great but the chicken was very over-cooked, and dry. And it was white meat not dark. Not sure I'll ever order the chicken again. Went to try this restaurant with a group of friends, so I was able to test many different items. It's in a pretty convenient location and in front of the Trader Joe's. Walking in, the restaurant is a order at the counter and food will be delivered by number. So, casual sit down similar to a Jason's deli or a step above fast food. The menu has many items and at reasonable prices. Adding meat such as lamb will add $2-5 to your basic entree cost. I was able to get curry and add an appetizer for around $12. Very reasonable and good sized portions. Very contemporary inside with several seating options. The food was about average, great for anyone trying out Indian food and wanting a balance of authenticity with American service and dining style. The food is definitely "compartmentalized" since you order drinks, naan, entree, and appetizers a la carte. The chicken vindaloo and lamb mirch masala were good but the basmati rice was a little heavy on the cinnamon. Unfortunately the naan was very burnt and that took away from my meal. Staying at a nearby hotel. The management of the hotel recommended this restaurant. It was within walking distance so i figured what the heck... I was at an Indian food buffet for lunch. Lol You order when you come in, pay, and have a seat. No waitress. Metal silverware, paper napkins, non ceramic plates. Very inexpensive. Was surprised by their prices. Ordered a chicken app, with a mint cream sauce. Pretty good. Entree was curry lamb( you have sever curries to choose from) I picked mild on the spice scale. Spicyness was perfect for me. The curry was very good. Excellent flavor and the basmati rice was not as aromatic as some I have had before but still good. The curry sauce was clearly the best part of the meal. Always a solid choice. We've been going there since they opened. This also a GREAT place to take people to introduce them to Indian food. The food is very approachable and recognizable, and you can order it mild if you so choose. Try the samosas (puff pastry w/ veggies) for an appetizer, as well as try the Chicken Pakoras. The pakoras are the familiar chicken strips, but with with an Indian twist and a sauce that's slightly exotic, but nowhere near overpowering at all. Again, great choices for first timers. The curries are really good- and NOT what most people would expect from a "curry". The sauces are rich and complex and smooooth. Be adventurous and try a curry. The Tikka Masala is a classic dish, as is the Korma. the shrimp korma is a solid choice! You also need to order a mango lassi! It's a traditional drink- and you can sip it while you walk over to Trader Joes and do some shopping) *The lassi also cuts the heat if you over did the spice level a little bit. I should mention that they have a menuboard on the wall as you walk in, that you read before you order. You can pick your choice of meat (or no meat) and then choose a dish or a sauce to go with it. It's maybe 2 or 3 choices to make. Order at the counter and they'll bring it out. Drinks and silverware are self serve. I'd say the service averages out to about 4 stars. The service and food is quick, and the portions are ample and we usually leave with some leftovers. read more

Many of the reviews here compare this restaurant to an Indian version of Pei Wei- by my experience, I can only assume this is a thinly-veiled warning that the dishes are seasoned for a nervously-adventurous American palate. The flavors were okay, but there was no spice. The menu was interesting and had both modern and traditional staples, but execution was lacking. NAANINI: A Panini made out of naan, this is genius! Opted for the lamb version, which arrived dry. The product did not match my vision of a grilled sandwich on pillowy, flavorful naan bread. Instead, the dish appeared to be a flatbread taco. Seasonings on the lamb itself were more reminiscent of a taco than an Indian lamb dish, but the accents of cabbage and cilantro somewhat helped. I don't understand why this didn't have any sort of sauce. I would pay extra for this to be available on garlic naan, but believe that should be the default for maximum flavor. MASALA FRIES: Again, I guess something was lost in translation, because I was picturing the fries fresh and crisp, topped with a masala sauce. I received limp shoestrings with a shake of masala seasoning, and a bland one at that. What could have been a great dish was just an ordinary side I decided against wasting calories on. I'll be back to try their samosas and biryani, but I worry that the more traditional dishes will still be unspiced and toned-down. The staff were friendly, and the space is modern, and the menu sounds so promising! But they need to work on execution, because this is currently sub-par "fusion". read more
