Not so sure why all these glorious reviews. I can't say I was too impressed by this truck. I've been here twice so far and thought the food was pretty average. I had high hopes b/c the high rating and ordered the original gyro based on the recommendation. When I got my O.G., I wasn't OMG'd at all. Although I am not an expert on moroccan food, my taste buds are experts on food in general. The second time, my friend ordered the Chicka Chicka Bang Bang and offered me some to try. I liked the name Chicka Chicka Bang Bang and thought I was going to do a bang bang dance after putting the Chicka Chicka in my mouth. But again I thought it was A-OK. Apparently my friend was pretty unhappy about what she was eating (that's probably why she offered it to me, J/K). She said one of her close friends is moroccan and she has tasted much better moroccan food than this. All right then, guess it wasn't just me. So, the ultimate question: will I return? Probably not given that another truck at the Alamo Street Eat Bar is my favorite. read more

After some indulging of the alcohol variety at the Friendly Spot, it was time to grab a bite at my favorite Southtown spot, Alamo Street Eat Bar. In search of something new, I found Wheelie Gourmet's Moroccan-inspired fare. After going over the menu, I asked for the Kefta which was labeled as a "Moroccan Burger." The Chef asked if I wanted to add the special, Candied Bacon. "Of course, I want Candied Bacon!" A few minutes later, this stunner was put in front of me. I took a minute to appreciate it, the warm pita bread, the seasoned meat with a hint of sauce, fresh spinach leaves and oh, yes, emmin-effin candied bacon. Moroccan Miracle! These guys are rockin' the casbah! Such incredible food! These guys are really from Morocco. I spoke to them about their dishes, turns out that they're from Rabat, and they know their cooking! Morocco is known for its exotic spices. In fact, these guys say that they order their spices straight from the Spice Souk (market) in Marrakesh monthly! I had their chicka chicka bang bang, which was Tangine chicken, spinach, onions in a sorta quesadilla looking package. Delicious! Their sweet potato fries were to die for! For the money, it was a huge amount of food. I seriously enjoyed these guys. So far, this is the only truck in the food park that I've been to twice. It's worth it! read more

The office lunch crowd picked a good day to hit the Port San Antonio Food Truck Court. This was the first time I've really had to study the menu of all three trucks to make my decision. The contestants were SpiceSea Gourmet, Mars Mobile Kitchen and Wheelie Gourmet. I decided on Wheelie Gourmet, and I was very pleased. I ordered the original Oh G! gyro sandwich on Moroccan flatbread. This turned out to be an excellent choice. The meat was a tender, delicately seasoned mix of grilled lamb and beef gyro, and the flatbread was very unusual--in a good way! The Wheelie slaw complemented the meat very well, making for a complex taste that I really enjoyed. A refreshing San Pellegrino orange soda rounded out the meal very nicely. I was extremely impressed by Wheelie Gourmet. I was sold on the Oh G! it was packed with flavor, and the meat was incredibly tender. They were out of pita bread, but chef didn't miss a beat. The folks behind the counter are good people; friendly, service minded, and knowledgeable of their ingredients. I really appreciate that, sometimes that's a miss on a food truck. That's how it happened for me... I don't often have the chance to eat Moroccan food, okay never, and I admit I was hesitant. My friend saw gyro meat on the menu and immediately wanted to try it, and I saw a veggie option featuring eggplant. The leap of faith caught us with open arms. I don't have a clue what the pita/bread thing is beneath the food, but it's amazing. I ate mine like a taco. The eggplant and gyro meat tastes like it was marinated in sweet, heavenly juices for days. It's topped with cucumbers and pickled onions, and sits on a bed of the most delicious cabbage slaw. I have to say that this was an absolute delight and an unexpected surprise for me. Wheelie specializes in a Mediterranean/Moroccan. I am a pescatarian and have recently cut out dairy, fish and bread for the month of January. I have been fortunate to find something to eat at most restaurants. As I approached the truck, my stomach growling; I was doubtful that I might find something this time at a "food truck." We normally have a food truck parked outside our business on Thursday afternoons. Occasionally I venture out and take a gamble. Thursday, I hit the food truck jack pot. Yes, really, I did! I ordered the Zaalouk as a vegetarian option. It consisted of eggplant which was strewed with tomatoes, onions and other unidentifiable but very delicious vegetables. This is served on some seasoned slaw and grilled zucchini and garnished with their very own Wheelie Gourmet pickled red onions. I asked for no cheese, no pita and no onion. Wow-wee; Wheelie Gourmet! You packed a pallet punch and satisfied my taste buds and my growling stomach. I will be back for more of this delicious vegetarian modified option. The price is a little high; $10.00 but it came with bottled water. People in our office were telling me that they don't even like cabbage, but they ate yours because it was so good. read more

Their Moroccan is rockin'! See what I did there? :) So I had the opportunity to try this food truck this weekend. And I couldn't finish the incredible amount of food they gave me but that Moroccan beef is so flavorful I hated to waste any little bite. I got the special of the day, grilled in a pita like bread and a side of fries (mix of sweet potato and belgian.) The sandwich concoction was hot and gooey and spicy and mouth watering. When you're there, ask them to make recommendations based on what you normally like -- they'll steer you straight to flavor heaven. Like any good american, I love carbs so the mix of sweet and regular potato fries was right up my alley. How they get them so crispy on the outside yet hot and chompable inside is a mystery. And one I would roofie* someone to find out. They're probably the best I've had. When in SA, do the food truck thing and find Wheelie. The Wheelie Gourmet is one of about five or six trailers which are often parked over at the Alamo Eat Street Bar, which is the glorified title of a cramped parking lot with a bunch of food trucks clustered around a shed where they pour expensive beers for hipsters. I found the trailer and ordered the vegetarian option, the Zaalouk ($9), with eggplant, tomatoes, onions, mushrooms, and spices, and topped with cucumber, pickled onions, and feta cheese on flatbread. I wasn't sure how to eat it, so I picked it up like a taco. (NOTE: This may be a faux pas in Morocco but remember, this is San Antonio.) To put it mildly, it was THA SHIT. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The stewed and spiced veggies had a couple layers of flavor and were balanced nicely by the high quality flatbread - and the meal was presumably healthy? You can't get much better than that. My friend ordered the Chicka Chicka Bang Bang ($9), which is a Moroccan-spiced chicken wrap/taco, but it wasn't nearly as good as mine. It was meaty and heavy. The spice in the chicken was nice but that was the only real flavor in the wrap. His wrap ended up being one note, where my Zaalouk was complex, so he was somewhat disappointed. Unless you're a meat lover, I would avoid this one. I would definitely come back here to try some more interesting dishes. You can't expect that everything is going to be a home run, but they do go all out to be gourmet. This is above average food for under ten bucks. My kinda place. read more

Writing this just seconds after finishing my southern. I haven't read the other reviews, but it's kind of hard to explain what I'm tasting. I love sriracha and when the guy said it was cooked in the meat I was sold. Every bite was flavorful and juicy and creates a complex explosion of flavors. Ended up here with a bunch of friends for the final food truck throwdown. They had a good amount of people in line so I decided to give them a shoy. Ordered the chicka chicka bang bang as it sounded nice. I asked them if there is a spicy sauce that they have but the guy at the window advised that he can add the cajun spices yo yhe meat but it could get soicy. Since I have e a pretty good tolerance I ended up going for extra spicy. Got the food in about 10 mins. For the portion it wasn't the great value that they kept on bragging about. However the pita dish looked appetizing. They dill use a generous amount of dill as garnish. The chicken was flavorful and the pickles they put were good add on. The pita was cooked almost perfectly. However there were no cajun spices added. I asked my friends to taste and see if I was wrong but they couldn't taste them either. Didn't bother taking it back but probably won't return a anytime soon. Overall a decent place but there are many better options available these days. read more

When I arrived at the Boardwalk today at 3:30 all of the trucks had closed except for Wheelie Gourmet and Saweet cupcakes. Thanks Wheelie for staying open til 4PM closing! I tried the chicka chicka bang bang and the grilled cheese with salami and bacon. The chicka bang was spot on with past reviews of curry spices and tender chicken. The grilled sandwich was filled with different cheeses and meats, and everything had fresh spinach. For the two combos + two green teas was around $19. I thought very affordable for the freshness of the food. This truck also had a special sandwich of the day that was only $8, so you can pick and choose to your liking. I came to Alamo St. Eat Bar before heading off to AMC Rivercenter to see a film. I had originally intended to grab a bite at the Institute of Chili only to change my mind when the guy told me they were out of brisket AND their sno cone machine was broken so no brisket tacos, no sno cones and no mangonadas. Disappointed I chose Wheelie Gourmet and ordered the O.G. minus tzaziki and feta, fried pickles and an orange Sanpellegrino. The fried pickles were okay but not worth the $5 price tag. The batter came off the pickles as I bit into them so they can't compare to the fried pickles served at Hooter's and Luther's Cafe. The O.G gyro was more to my liking. Lamb and beef gyro meat served with onions on a Moroccan flatbread. It was literally a taco on steroids. The orange Sanpellegrino was okay however I prefer the lemon Sanpellegrino. read more

Slow cooked Tangine chicken, with Moroccan spices, spinach, olives, onions all served on a roll. A truck run on bio diesel that pumps out incredible Moroccan food. Amazing. So, this great truck has its home base at Boardwalk on Bulverde. Catch them most days a week (I think they're closed on Monday) for some tasty bites. The owners run the truck, cook, and serve (as most trucks seem to work for obvious reasons) and they're so super nice and helpful. I couldn't decide between all of the exceptional menu choices so I asked them to decide for me. They chose a special of the day for me. It was sort of un poquito de todo of other menu option tucked nicely into a flat bread and grilled with cheese. Lots of meat, veggies, and toppings are blended together to make one happy little pillow of delicious in my mouth. And the sweet potato fries, one of my fave foods, were dee-vine! read more

Where have you been all my life? Man..this place totally exceeded my expectations. This was actually the first time I had seen them at Alamo street eats and I was skeptical cause I'm not.a huge Mediterranean food fan. So at the encouragement of my boy we went over to it. The guy working was cool and recommended trying the chicka chicka boom boom. This consisted of...well I can't remember everything but it had chicken and cabbage and a whole bunch of other stuff. But when I took that first bite...WHEN I TOOK THAT FIRST BITE! oh man. The myriad of flavors hit me like Miley Cyrus and 5 of her friends twerking in my mouth. I can't even describe the different flavors but they all paired well and it was delicious! It was so good I had to get another one. Strangely enough...if you pick it up with your hand and eat it it tastes one way but if you try to cut it into pieces and eat it that way you miss out on flavors. It just tasted different...not in a bad way but different. It is possible I am delirious and imagined that. My boy also got the fried mushrooms (there was 6 of them I believe) and said they were delicious also. I highly recommend checking out this food truck, I will definitely be back. read more

Just based on looking at the menu and being given a pita sample, I would try this place if I were you. Oh, and for customer service, these girls (sorry that's all I saw) were fantastic--friendly, helpful, and smiling. Yeah, and as others have pointed out, their prices are high, but that seems the case nowadays with all the "gourmet" food trucks. What happened to the concept of the $2 gourmet taco like in L.A. I appreciate both versions and they each have their merits, but the O.G. might be my new favorite. Like this place needs another 4+ star review, but I'm doin it anyway! Just because I had such a great "before the Spurs game" dinner here. The crazy part is, it was cold, rainy, windy, and miserable outside when we visited Wheelie this past Saturday at Alamo St. Eat Bar. By all tokens, an outdoor food truck park should have been a disaster right off the bat. It wasn't. I'll spare the details of buying beer at the small bar there, etc, just that it was a great experience. Walking up to Wheelie Gourmet, I sort of knew what to expect based on previous research and Yelp reviews. I knew I was going to order an OG, just to have a base on what to judge them on. Not that I'm judging, but anyway you get the idea. The Original Gyro HAD to be one of the best things I've ever tried. Definitely the best gyro I've ever tried. The pita/bread thing was fantastic. This food truck is awesome! I wish that I had time to visit their restaurant but I was in town for a short visit. The food is as good as it gets with big bold flavors that don't cover up the ingredients. The owners are easy to talk to and have a real passion for food and customer service. This is a "must stop" when visiting San Antonio. I felt sorry for the people eating at the Riverwalk and missing out on a great location and dining experience. read more

I tried the Texan Oh G! from Wheelie Gourmet during First Friday in January. The girls working were so friendly and drew me in by handing me a menu and telling me about the popular items. I'm a huge fan of fusion and the mix of moroccan and texan bbq sounded really interesting to me so I went with the Texan Oh G. The meat was plentiful, thick, and juicy. I enjoyed the toppings and pickles. The bbq sauce got a little lost but when I got pieces of gyro meat with the sauce, it was a nice addition. The part that was lost on me was the flatbread. I've never been to morocco and I don't think I've ever had a moroccan flatbread, but it didn't seem special at all. I guess I was expecting something similar to naan (which I love), but it was more like pita bread with no flavor. Even though the bread was a miss, I appreciate the concept. read more

Are people getting paid to write good reviews for this place? It's nothing to write home about. Just like any other "trendy" food trucks, this place charges $9 for a very small sandwich. The menu on the truck doesn't even have the price listed. I would have probably backed out had I known that the cost:performance ratio of this place is a total joke. The sandwich is pretty average. The crispy shell (bread?) is the only interesting part of the sandwich. The meat just looks like standard gyro with added spices. Once again, it's not that interesting. It almost seems like the place advertises itself as Moroccan to draw more people (as opposed to saying Mediterranean or gyro). I've had Moroccan food in Europe e.g. Chicken Tajine but none of it was like this. Maybe the pickles they put on the sandwich had some vague resemblance. Also, what's wrong with the pricing of the bar in this place? It's out of control expensive. It's unfortunate that there's not a whole lot of cheap, quick eats in the King Williams area. To my giddy delight, I spied something bright, colorful and smell-a-licious when I entered the new Ripe Farmer's Market at the Eilan Hotel (sidebar...LOVE this market...great parking, great setting and GREAT VENDORS....bad thing is that it's only held once a month; good thing for my pocketbook and waistline is that it's only held once a month). Back to what "I spied"....the Wheelie Gourmet truck! I had never been in the right place at the right time to catch up with WG and I did not expect to see them at Ripe, so I was happy, Happy, HAPPY!!! And even happy, Happy HAPPIER when I bit into the traditional gyro (okay..."tore" into may be the more apropo verb....the size of this baby makes a dainty, lady-like "bite" impossible). I've only been here once and tried one thing but they get five stars for serving me the best french fries I've ever had in my life! Excuse me, belgian fries. I got a mix that included the sweet potato fries. I'm in love. We ordered the special a monstrous sized plate.
