My missus and myself decided to give this place a go last night. We found this place after finding out a place that we had been looking to try had moved (or closed). It is a totally Americanized version of what Indian food should be, not traditional at all. A good intro, if someone hasn't tried it before. Personally, I enjoy a more authentic experience, and more authentic food. A very bright and modern setting, but a very "pei-wei" setup, with a similar ordering experience. The food itself lacks depth, if you scrape away the sauce, it's plain old meat/veggies. You get enough to take home, and it tasted better the next day. When I took the first scoop from the bowl, the colour and texture changed, like you see at the top of something that has been reheated. Give it a shot, especially if it's your first foray into the wonderful world that is Indian cuisine. But, if you're looking for something more authentic, then look elsewhere. read more

This is good Indian food. I had a to-go order tonight. My order was Masala and also kabob the Masala was so flavorful I ate so much I could not eat another bite and as soon as I could I had seconds. This is such a good flavor and the Masala spices is amazing here. The kabobs have a special flavor also. If I were to compare this to anything it would be similar to eating a can of ravioli when you want real Italian. It is very sugary and bland. When you order mild it should be said you are ordering zero spice. The size of the dish is adequate and the atmosphere is good but this is a very Americanized version of Indian food. Tarka Indian Kitchen struck me as little more than an Indian fast food joint. The meal was thoroughly uninspiring. Since I didn't tour the kitchen, I can't be sure but I suspect that no one in the kitchen was Indian. In fact, I am willing to bet there was no one back there in the kitchen who had ever been to India or who could even find India on a map. My main dish, the rice and the nan were all very forgettable. Chicken Tikka was great! This was a good find and will be making it a regular spot. The garlic naan is made fresh and they wrap it up well for Togo so it stays fresh. Spice level was very reasonable as the hot is spicy but they do have an off menu extra hot too. Definitely recommend! read more

My husband and I were craving Indian food last night, and decided to try Tarka out. Upon entering, it totally has a Pei Wei vibe. That modern, quick dinner type place... pick a starter, pick a sauce, pick a protein, add some paneer or veggies. I got Chicken Tikka Masala (added paneer and veggies) and the hubs got Lamb Saag, we added an order of Samosa Chaat, Vegetable Pakora, and regular naan. The Samosa Chaat was soggy from the sauce under the cut up pieces and the Pico De Gallo-esque topping, and had some Indian flavors but, just lacked the depth of spices you kinda expect. The Pakora was pretty dry, even dipped in the chutney (my Scottish hubs loooves Pakora and just didn't care for this at all). The naan tasted more like a thick flour tortilla. Our main dishes were ok, but we both agreed they lacked that depth, spice and heat (though actual temperature-wise mine was piping hot, which was nice). They were a good size to eat and still have some leftovers to take home. As others have said, it's totally Americanized, probably great for someone who hasn't had Indian food before and needs a soft, casual intro, lol. I'm not sure that it's what we were looking for or that we'd go again when we're really craving Indian food, but it did give us some of those Indian food flavors and filled our tummies for the night. read more

The naan was still soft the garlic was not cooked at all. It was dollops of raw garlic all over the bread. I could not eat it. My coconut curry was lumpy not smooth. We tried this place after months of seeing the sign for it on 45. We really liked the samosas and the curry entrees we got. I've had better biryanis. Mango tea is good, lassi are better. The food took a very long time to come out and they apologized, but no offer of anything to fix it like a on-the-house drink or something. Just seemed a little overwhelmed and it wasn't really busy. Maybe an off day. That being said, the people were very friendly and the food was solid. We're going to be back and hopefully we will be more impressed with the speed of service. read more

I haven't been to Tarka since B.C (before Covid) and I've always enjoyed their food and service. So I come back for the same thing I've always gotten, chicken tikka with garlic naan. I come inside to place my to go order and I'm told it's a 15 minute wait. Not a big deal, so I sit and wait. While I'm here in the dining room I observe all the employees wearing masks properly and telling the guests that they will be changing their gloves in between guests. The dining room is spotless, the employees are friendly and the guests respect the mask protocols. They are one of the few restaurants that I've seen tackle the pandemic with this level of care! When you first pull up, the smell gets you. Not to mention that this is a gluten free diner's paradise!!! They aren't modifying their normal menu to be gluten free; much of their food is just gluten free, even a new cheesecake. I am only happy that it isn't closer to my house, or I'd be eating there daily! But the food is so good that I do make a pretty long drive on occasion just to eat there. Right when you walk through the doors, the smell just wins you over. I ordered the veggie curry with a side of naan. Freaking delicious! I also got the samosa chaat. Also very good. The two dishes are delectable but together was a bit too much for me. There was also the lassi which I got the strawberry ones. I normally would have mango lassi so I decided to give this a try. I never really ate Indian food very much, but after someone brought Tarka to the office a few weeks ago I got hooked. Now my wife and I pick up at least once a week and sometimes twice. Last night we got my wife's favorite very tangy Vindaloo curry and I finally tried a tikki masala with chicken, extra veggies and my new favorite food: paneer. That's some kind of very firm white cheese, and I put it in everything. The service was great and their app tracks your car as you drive there, so they start your meal at the right time and deliver curbside when they see you arrive. Very cool. read more
