I was really excited to try this place out with my family and was hugely disappointed instead! The food is not what you would expect to be 'authentic' Indian cuisine. Ate here for lunch yesterday, it was delicious! Ordered the chicken tikka masala with a side of garlic naan. I highly recommend both. The food came out not as quick as fast food places, but not any slower than bigger, more traditional restaurants, so no complaints there. The food was very hot, and so good!! The mango lemonade was delicious too, tasted like it was made with fresh mango. We'll absolutely be going back here again. Looking forward to trying some other items on the menu. read more

I cannot tell you how excited I am that this restaurant open on the northside! We needed a good Indian restaurant in the area. I'm Indian and I can say that the food here really hit the mark. The Decour is trendy and clean. The service even on opening day was fast detail oriented and friendly. We had the chicken tikka masala which had a wonderful flavor profile. The lamb biryani was delish. The saag paneer was flavorful and not the usual super creamy style. The garlic naan was loaded with garlic which my husband loved! First thing we noticed coming to this restaurant was the amazing smell that reached the parking lot. For 2 Indian food lovers and I would say, somewhat connoisseurs, this food did not disappoint! We ordered samosas, chicken tikka masala, aloo gobi, saag paneer, and mango lassi. For the most part the food was delicious and the portions were HUGE! We could've ordered half the food and it still would've been more than enough. The mango lassi was not tangy and the right about of sweet. The aloo gobi was to die for as well as the samosas. What prevents me from giving this restaurant 5 stars are 3 things: 1) The spice levels are really deceiving. We ordered medium for everything and it was like the spiciness was non existent. Next time we'll order the highest spice level but I have a feeling that won't suffice either. Indian food is supposed to have a kick and I did not get that at all with any of the dishes we ordered. Nonetheless, the food was delicious in taste. 2) I feel like the rice could've been better prepared for basmati rice. There's a specific way to cook it so the rice is loose and not mushy. The rice they served wasn't horrible but could've been better. 3) The most important reason I did not give this restaurant a 5 star was the chicken tikka masala. Having tried a MANY tikka masala I know for a fact the one they served here is way off. Again, not bad in taste, but definitely not even close to what chicken tikka masala is supposed to be. The naan was pretty bad... like something from a box. That was disappointing. I had the mirch chicken and it was decent, but also tasted like something where they just poured a bunch of Indian spices into a pan and sautéed some veggies and meat with it. read more

We had an excellent dinner tonight at this brand new Indian Kitchen restaurant in Spring Texas! The chicken biryani and the lamb curry was excellent. My girlfriend had the mango lemonade! I drove the 15 minutes home and sat down to eat the delicious Indian food I'd been craving all day. The garlic naan was so rubbery and chewy that I couldn't even eat it. The veggie pakoras.... let's just face it, they should be advertised as Indian onion rings because this is the second time that I've gotten 95% onions in my order. Everything here was great! They have great drink selections. I've had similar cuisine in the Hillcroft/Harwin area, and I've got to say, although Tarka was great, it's taste is 99% authentic compared to them. But I love love love Indian food and I totally recommend Tarka! Especially for anyone who wants to try Indian for the first time this place is perfect. This place used to be good when it first opened up but the last time we went I was embarrassed because I took my parents and my husband and baby but the food was not the same. The rice in the biriyani was pretty dry and the ginger naan was hard. The other thing that annoys me is that the teenagers behind the counter never know what we are ordering when we say it in English so then we have to point to the menu. At least the staff should be familiar with the menu and not give us a funny look as if we are asking for something strange. We won't be going here again. read more

Very disappointed with my dining experience here. I wasn't expecting it to be anything close to authentic Indian food, but I was hoping for a decent Indian restaurant closer than Hillcroft. The samosas and mango lassi were both good. The entrees were the biggest disappointment. I tried the naanini with curried chicken, it looked incredible but tasted like nothing. Tried this out for lunch. It's got a new age feel to it. It's not a traditional sit down and order. You walk up to the counter and place your order there then they bring it to you. Overall food was surprisingly good. I had tikka masala which was very creamy and full of flavor and my bf had the vindaloo, which was very good even after he ordered it spicy hot. Salaam Tarka! I'm so glad there's a cafeteria style, mostly authentic, Indian restaurant in town! The dish with the most authentic flavors I've tried so far is the Samosa Chaat. It's enough to share with a friend. The curry is so delicious with a smooth sauce that tastes like childhood memories and family dinners. It's served with a big portion of perfectly cooked basmati rice. Don't forget the naan! I recommend trying their mango lemonade which pairs marvelously with their entire menu. The tikka masala was one of the least authentic dishes but was still really tasty. The dish derives from authentic spices and flavors but seemed overly rich and tweaked for the more Americanized customers...but still good! This place delivers and provides to-go orders. Solid 4 stars. Very Americanized but still very good. I had the coconut curry with lamb. The lamb was tender and the dish had great flavors. Basmati was cooked perfectly and again kept up with the flavor. The naan was a let down, tasted like a flour tortilla and had no hummus or baba ganoush. It would be nice if they added at least a hummus. They had a mango lemonade, pretty good. Would love if they could add the lemonade mint drink. Big fans of the vegetarian options! My husband and I have been coming here for both takeout and dining-in for the past few weeks, trying something new from the vegetarian options every time, we love that the meals come with rice and so far everything we ordered has been tasty, delicious and filling. My husband brought Tarka home for dinner tonight and I was not impressed at all. We eat Indian food frequently and wanted to try this place. We ordered Aloo Gabi and Chana Masala, the Aloo Gabi had maybe 5 small pieces of cauliflower and the rest were potatoes and the potatoes had the skin on it which changes the flavor of the potatoes. I almost thought that the potatoes were frozen, definitely not fresh cut potatoes. The Indian spices and flavor was missing. The Chana Marsala was just ok still missing spices. This place is definitely Americanized. We will stick to going to an authentic Indian restaurant where we can experience authentic flavors and spices that makes Indian food taste so yummy! read more

Maybe I'm more picky because I'm Indian and have tasted a lot of Indian food from a variety of places in my life but.... I didn't like the Samosa Chaat at all. It was disappointing. It lacked a yogurt sauce on top of the chaat and lacked a sweet tamarind one on it. Most Samosa chaats from other restaurants usually have that and it makes the chaat taste so much better. And I ordered their Chicken Tikka Masala with a garlic naan. Their Chicken Tikka Masala tasted too sweet for me. Their basmati rice and garlic naans were AMAZING though. They used fresh garlic on their naans. Their food is freshly made to order which impressed me. Their service and staff was excellent. A very clean place with friendly and helpful staff.
