They've been around since 2012 and offers a variety of treats; from macarons, cupcakes, bars, pies, truffles, and cookies. There are three locations; Avon, South Windsor, and West Hartford. This one in Avon is super cute and whimsical; love the decor with the picture frames on the wall. There was a table and some chairs to enjoy your treats. When it comes to their desserts, calling ahead and ordering may be the way to go. I'm not a coffee drinker so I can't speak to that, and the desserts they had on hand were delicious. But there may be more options available.... Definitely worth a pop-in to get something small and taste the deliciousness. Regardless, the interior is beautiful decorated. It feels like a modern tea room with some availability to sit. The walls are a beautiful calm blue. They have some cold drinks, and the cups cakes - very moist, definitely have standing life in them. The employee was very kind and friendly, and the shop seems smoothly run. The shop seems to be in two plazas, and have designated parking on either side next to the building. Taste by Spellboud is one of the most beautiful coffee shops in town. They make delicious coffee and the best macarons. Today I stopped by their equally beautiful location in Avon. The Avon location is the original, this is where they bake the macarons, cupcakes, cookies and cakes, and distribute them to the other two stores. It is so beautiful inside. The walls are light blue, with a variety of framed art pieces. They of course had some delicious macaroons and cupcakes. Unfortunately at this location their selection of coffee drinks is very limited. They don't do cappuccinos or lattes, just good old basic coffee. They also don't offer any flavors. So I got a coffee and my mom got their hot hibiscus tea. This coffee was solid. The tea was also pretty good. It would be nice if they could add some more variety to their coffee menu. When the actually have cupcakes, they are my favorite. Not enormous or overly sweet. BUT....I've stopped visiting for a few reasons. 1. Their hours are spotty and the shop decor is sparse and depressing. 2. Their attitudes are the WORST. Getting a treat like cupcakes (especially such delicious ones!) should be fun. These ladies do not greet you, rarely smile, don't make small talk and definitely make me feel like they don't want me there. 3. The selection. The past several times I visited I either walked away with nothing because they only had two weird flavors available or I bought whatever they had just because I felt strange walking out. 4. We purchased a custom cake for our daughter's birthday and we're shocked by how disappointing it was. It looked ok but it was dry and the icing was falling off in chunks during her party. Good luck showing buying restraint here! When you walk in, you'll see a big production area on the left where the cakes, mini-desserts, cookie-wiches, macarons, cupcakes, bar bakes, and cookies are created. Many of these products are behind glass in a showcase counter straight ahead, and on the right you'll see a small dining area with tables and chairs. I had intended to pick up a few desserts for New Year's Eve, and New Year's Day. So for the two of us, I planned on buying... what... maybe 4 or 5 things? Well, here's where that lack of buying restraint came in. My willpower deficiency led to buying two apple crisp specials, two coffeecake bars, and five bars. At least I have the rest of the year to make up for that lack of willpower. Here is the chronological order in which we sampled our haul. Apple Crisp Cups- Excellent!! Sweet and gooey (was that a caramel glaze swirled around in there?) they were decadently outstanding. Coffee Cake Bars - Better than any coffee cake you ever had. I loved the crumb topping -harder and crunchier and thicker than what I'm used to, it was sweet and full of cinnamon flavor. I loved the contrast between the soft cake and crunchy topping. Peanut Butter Caramel Bars - Crazy delicious! Sweet gooey and lots of peanut flavor. Salted Caramel Bars - Great! Soft and chewy with a nice contrast of sweet and salty. They pack a ton of flavor. Mexican Chocolate Bars -Intense chocolate cinnamon flavor with a nice chocolate fudge glaze and a hint of cayenne. Very yummy read more

This is a cute clean little bakery. There weren't too many people when we went. Service was quick and friendly. We were curious about some different macarons and cupcakes. I got the raspberry rose and chocolate macarons and a boston cream cupcake. The macarons were a bit too sweet for me and not enough of the other flavors. The boston cream cupcake was ok, but the sweet icing was definitely over shadowing the cream filling too. While it's a cute store with great people, I don't think this is the place for my taste. read more

So I came to this location today. I planned my trip south from NB Canada, around this stop. I've been to Miriam's shops now several times and I always am delighted with her baking. Her macrons are the best I've ever eaten. They never disappoint! Everything in her shop is made fresh daily and it shows! Today, we tried the Hummingbird Cake, peanut butter cookies, cupcakes, and macrons! I've never been to a bakeshop with such consistent quality as this place. If you are local please go visit her. The place is very cute, however, you don't feel welcome at all when you walk in and the staff are not at all pleasant. Very unfortunate because the macarons were fantastic and my kids loved the cupcakes. Customer service goes along way when there are so many other options available. This West Hartford location is the latest addition to the Taste By Spellbound chain. The interior offers a summer retro vibe with its bright pink walls and flamingo print. It's playfulness is tamed just a little by the addition of some more sophisticated elements like the floor-to-ceiling bookshelf and the delicate china, leaving you feeling chic and classy just by stepping foot in the place. And of course, we must not forget about the sweets. The freshly baked goods make an appearance on a rotating schedule, but you can guarantee there will always be something to leave you with a smile on your face. On my most recent trip, I went for a Caramel Espresso macaron and a latte, but it took a lot of willpower to say no to the blondies and brownies and to turn a blind eye to the artfully topped cupcakes and palm-sized cookies. Sitting at a table taking nibbles of my macaron in between sips of my coffee was the ultimate way to wind down. The macaron was excellent, proffering equally punchy notes of the espresso, with the bitter, yet creamy, lingering aftertaste of coffee and the sweet/salty buttery concoction that is caramel. Sandwiched between two crispy, yet chewy macaron shells, the filling within left little to be desired and I had to bury my wallet at the bottom of my bag to keep me from getting back in line for more. I also recently learned that you can place orders for their goods for your next social gathering, but if you're like me and would likely order sweets for yourself, you might want to un-read that. Everything at Taste by Spellbound is delicious. These treats not only look great, but they taste great as well. I've ordered cakes and cheesecakes from TBS and I have tried a variety of their dessert bars and cookies. Everything is amazing. I recently ordered a chocolate cake with chocolate mousse filling and buttercream frosting and it was one of the best I've ever had. The staff is also super friendly and helpful. Delicious cupcakes! I was looking for cupcakes for a bridal shower and came across their beautiful Instagram. Over two visits, I tried the eggnog, berry ginger, and raspberry cheesecake. All were excellent and some of the best I've had. I was impressed by how well-balanced the sweetness is and how strongly each flavor comes through. I'm very picky about my baked goods since I bake a lot myself, so trust me on this. They are dainty cupcakes but always a perfect combo of flavors. They're also gorgeously and tastefully decorated. They're the Oscar de la Renta of the cupcake world. The cake truffles were a bit too sweet for my taste, but still enjoyable. Prices are high ($3/cupcake), and selection is limited, mostly because this is a small high-end boutique bakery. I recommend following them on Instagram to see the specials, and get here early if there's something in particular you have your eye on. The store itself is small but cute with an Alice-in-Wonderland-themed communal seating area. The owner has been at the counter both times I've been there and has always been polite and pleasant. This will be a rare indulgence for me when I'm in the area, and I look forward to trying more of their beautiful sweets! read more

I'm not sure what all the negative reviews are about, but I've been going to them for a few years now, at their new location and the previous one, and they have always been welcoming and nice. Their cupcakes and macaroons are excellent, and they make the best (and biggest) made to order cakes. If I could give zero stars I would... I used to frequent this bakery every now and then when the local library gave out cupcake vouchers and those experiences were always decent and tasty. However, my last experience with Taste was far from spellbound. I was helping my dad's associate order a custom cake from here on a Saturday. After talking to the person working there and describing what we wanted, we placed our order and paid nearly $100 up front for the cake (which is a pretty ridiculous cost for a simple cake with a cute frosting bear and some text...). The following Tuesday, we received a call from the bakery telling us that they could not accommodate the design we chose. Disappointed, but understanding, we told them that was fine and to cancel our order and refund the money. The bakery said they would only refund 50% of the cost as this is their policy. We were shocked. No one made us aware of this policy when we ordered the cake and paid. Additionally, they weren't even providing us with the product they initially agreed to make!! We asked them to waive the deposit since they didn't make us the cake and they refused, saying they already started making the buttercream (seriously??). We questioned why they started to make the buttercream before telling us they could no longer accommodate our order and they said they couldn't have notified us sooner because they were closed on Sunday and Monday. This was not an acceptable excuse, and we told them they should have notified us about their inability to make the cake before making the buttercream. Eventually, they agreed to reduce the non-refundable deposit to 25%. While we appreciated their attempt to compromise, it is very poor business practice to charge customers for a product you can't provide. Since the incident, I've made several follow up calls to the bakery and none of them have been returned. We are very unhappy with the business practices and unacceptable customer service at Taste By Spellbound and will NOT be back. read more

Clearly, I'm not Spellbound. The reason? I have not actually been able to taste the treats here. Each time I have attempted to come here, the shop has either not been stocked or is closed, more often than not closed. A couple of months ago, my friend and I stopped in right when it opened. We were told they had nothing ready. Really? A bakery that just opens and has nothing ready to be sold? We have tried back several other times, but found each time the shop was closed when it was said to be open. My latest attempt was this morning--Small Business Saturday. I wanted to support a small business (clearly), but as I walked to the door I found a sign stating the shop was closed. I follow the bakers on Instagram, and saw pictures being posted this morning. It should have said on the captions of these pictures that the Avon location was closed (if they were pictures of the goods at the South Windsor shop), or at least notify a prospective treat-goer and small business-supporter that one location is closed so as to not have to actually call the shop each time a trip is attempted. I doubt--no matter how good the treats or the efficiency and greatness of the service are said to be--that I will be back to Spellbound--either location--anytime soon because of the trouble I have had actually getting to the goods they sell (or say to). read more

I love when local places run by up-and-coming bakers get going. This place has all the signs of a great one. We've gotten more cupcakes here than I care to confess. All are delicious. Service is great too though most of their business is a take-out one. Best of all, they do custom cakes. The salted caramel frosted one is outrageous. I ordered a Kentucky Bourbon pie. I ordered by phone. I spoke to a person. Picked up my pie as ordered in the location as requested. Online menu says pie is $28.... ok... When I picked up my pie and paid the bill it was $38 !!! I said that's a lot more than what the menu says the price is!? Reply: "all of our prices for supplies have gone up. We just haven't updated our online menu yet or made any mention of it on the website". And no one felt it was important to mentioned it when I placed my order? I can understand a couple of dollars and not getting around to updating or mentioning a price increase but that's a 35% increase and you don't think its significant or important?! Unbelievably rude!!!!! Called to ask about availability of cupcakes for a birthday and also to confirm hours due to COVID. The person who answered the phone (Avon location - although I called the West Hartford office), says rudely, "All calls route to Avon office". Well ok, but how are we supposed to know that; and offering your location hours is not helpful when I was going to go to West Hartford, which has different hours. She was so rude, I told her before I hung up, "Wow, you are being awfully short with a potential new customer, never mind". I can get cupcakes many other places. Seems you don't need the business. Amazing French Toast Cupcake! Had a raspberry preserves filling with maple flavored frosting with a maple leaf cookie on the top. Absolutely Amazing!!!! Moist, sweet and savory at the same time. I came about 45 mins before closing so there wasn't much left, but I did grab two truffles and a salted caramel cookie sandwich. Not really sure what I was expecting from the truffles, but they didn't blow me away. To me they aren't worth $2 each. The salted caramel cookie surprised me though. For sure I thought it was going to be overly sweet with the filling, but it wasn't. The chocolate chip cookies that sandwiched it were very tasty and the chocolate chips melty. Okay, holy lord!! First off, butterscotch latte...forget every other coffee you've ever had! The best, hands down! My friend had the pumpkin spice latte and it was spectacular. Second, THE MACAROONS! Unbelievably kind humans & amazing bakers. Here's what happened. On 7/1/23, I ordered a cake from Harvest Bakery in Bristol for a formal event scheduled for 7/29/23. Apparently, HB's ovens died on Monday 7/24/23. HB called me on Friday 7/28/23 to inform there would be no cake for 7/29/23. 24 hrs to find a professionally baked cake as this was a formal event, celebrating 2 dignitaries, a near impossible task. Enter Taste by Spellbound to save the day!!! There are not enough words to express my gratitude. The kind human that I spoke to informed me we don't normally make sheet cakes. I started to cry, she immediately stated, wait let me check. They made 2 sheet cakes that were delicious, I mean one of the best I'vehad in a long time!!! We will definitely order from here again & again & again! In the end, I'm grateful this happened. In a world where customer service has all but faded away, it can be found at Taste by Spellbound. I had an awful experience. My daughter and I visited to order a special cake for a birthday. As soon as we walked in, the woman in the preparation area immediately ran toward us and angrily stated that what she had was onthe shelves. We had not opened our mouths or taking more than 2 steps inside. My daughter and I looked at each other for a second, then I politely stated that we would like to order a special birthday cake (added a big grin). The woman kept her angry face, voice and demeanor and tossed a paper onto the counter and said, "you need to place an order 3 days prior". She exhibited what I can only describe as hate or anger. I am not sure if she was having a bad day, or if this was due to my biracial daughter; I truly hope it is not the latter. Needless to say, we left after trying to ask a few more questions to acquire more information regarding our potential cake. We will never buy anything from this store, and will let everyone know how we were treated. read more
