We ordered General Tso's chicken and orange chicken and they were HORRIBLE! I'm not a picky eater, but man, this was ridiculous. It's almost like they shredded a bunch of chicken, mixed it up in breading, made them into balls, fried them, and poured sauce on them. I took a few apart and they were almost entirely bread. Many had just one little shred of chicken. The outside was so thick/tough that one could hardly cut into it, they were chewy, and they were hard to swallow at times. It's almost like they were fried more than once. DO NOT order orange OR General Tso's chicken. Really really bad. I assume because this is a popular dish, they felt they could cut corners, but they turned into bread balls with sauce on them... We've ordered from here before, but something has changed for the worse. We also ordered other dishes such as the Szechuan chicken and a beef dish, which were decent. As well as a few of their sides and soup which were good. The egg rolls were decent and not soggy, the rangoons were average, and the potstickers were alright. Ordered sesame chicken online. When we picked up the order and brought it home, we discovered sweet and sour chicken. Thinking they made a mistake, we called to get the correct order. They told us that they make their sesame chicken this way, and that they provided sesame sauce for us to mix it with. I have never seen sesame chicken made this way in my entire life- because it was obviously sweet and sour chicken. We placed an order for deliver which was 1 hour after and hour and fifteen minutes we called to check status and were told it would be another 45 minutes. Full disclosure: I have not eaten their food. Just an FYI, I ordered online, even commented about how great their website is. I received the order confirmation and a follow up email confirmation. When food didn't arrive, I called to check on it. The person answering the phone said, "Oh, sometimes you have to call. Let me check for your order. Oh yeah, it's here. I'll start on it." Since it had already been an hour, I cancelled the order. I mentioned to the employee that I shouldn't have to call when I order online, especially if I get the email confirmation with a delivery time. Then, when he looked for the order, he found it immediately, so it's not like it would be hard to check for online orders. Both were 80% breading if not more, barely any chicken every once in a while you could find a shred of chicken, and extremely tough, like it had sat out and to warm it up they fried it for a fifth time. The egg rolls are massive and stuffed like sausages! The crab rangoon and pineapple chicken were outstanding as well. Crab rangoon is my favorite part of Chinese, and I was surprised that Taste of China does it best! Taste of China is in a small strip mall that is in the same corner of the intersection as Aldi. Don't mistake them for Great Wall across the street by Jewel. The crab rangoon was stuffed with creamy filling and fried perfectly. I've had some experiences lately that were skimpy on the filling. Not at Taste of China. The pineapple chicken was what I've been looking for in Chinese food: fresh, white meat chicken that isn't doused in a murky sauce. The chunks of pineapple and sauces were light and slightly sweet. They packed the chicken separate from the pineapple sauces which kept the chicken hot and crispy. The fried rice and Kung Pao chicken were just okay. The rice was a little too greasy for my liking and tasted slightly burnt. The lady who runs the front counter is very serious and shouts orders at the cooks. But don't mistake that for rudeness, she just means business and was perfectly nice to me. She even offered me my smoothie while I waited for the food. The man packing the food and taking phone orders took extra care that it was the right order. 2 appetizers, fried rice, 2 entrees, and 2 smoothies - that's a lot of food for only $35! We ordered our food and when I got home, the pork Lo mein that I ordered did not look right. When I called, the lady picked up the phone and was still yelling at someone in the background, so I decided to bring my food back. When I got there she advised me that the order was "Cantonese style" which didn't matter to me, because it wasn't like I was used to, and didn't look like the picture. The woman tends to bark a lot of orders to workers there, but that doesn't seem to be getting results for her, so I'm suggesting she try a new leadership style. Other than that, the other items we ordered were good, especially the fat ol egg rolls. So my review and tip will include this: if you want it fried, you have to ask for "yellow" noodles... Take advantage of their lunchtime specials, all the chicken entrees were $6.25 and comes with chicken fried rice, an eggroll, and a drink. Got a chicken kow and a pork fried rice. The guy there, who I'm guessing was the owner, was really nice. I did notice a lady that was yelling at the employees in the kitchen. The chicken kow was pretty good, big pieces of white meat, cooked in some sort of a white sauce with bokchoy, mushrooms, carrots, and other vegetables. Had the Chicken Delight large order with two egg rolls on the side order for dinner. $13 for two people. The sauce was really sweet and had a great tangy flavor that I thought was great. The person I shared with wasn't a fan but she is picky. Egg rolls are huge and seem handmade with fresh ingredients. We have ordered from this place for several years. It's been our favorite Chinese place. Today that has changed. The food was awful! Pineapple shrimp was our favorite. Shrimp not cooked fully and the pineapple shrimp sauce tasted like ketchup watered down with pineapples in it. Beef fried rice had no flavor. Awful! Called to talk to a manager and the person who answered the phone asked what I wanted in broken English. I told him my concerns and he really didn't seem to care. Ok all these good reviews are either fake or these people never tried real fast food type of chinese food. If this type of food was served in NY, would be out of business in a week. Ordered delivery and arrived an hour and half later. They could've mentioned how long it would take. We ordered beef lo mein, shrimp with lobster sauce, house special fried rice, egg drop soup, and general tsao's chicken which came to $54. They also gave one white rice(no soda nor eggroll or soup fortune cookies given from this big order). Also no utensils or napkins, just a whole load of glutinous soy sauce. Ok now for the food: BeefLoMein- just bland and really really oily, i even tried with soy sauce No One ate this. Shrimp w/lobster sauce- added soooo much soy sauce the actual food was black(this food is supposed to be white) just imagine chugging down soy sauce and a rock of salt with shrimp. House Fried Rice- not fully cooked rice just fried with shrimp and meats with soy sauce and salt and who knows(again blackish food coloring) Eggdrop Soup- only decent thing people ate. Lastly General Tsao's Chicken- how the hell can you go wrong with fried pieces of chicken covered with sauce?!!! It has to be somewhat crispy or have a sweetish taste. This was just mushy on outside and really overcooked dry hard chicken. All the food went straight to the garbage except for the soup. Please don't waste your money if you know your chinese food. I would recommend other places but i'm not from illinois. This is just by far the most horribad food. When i'm hungry i would eat almost anything but this junk is a nono. Definitely better than the other Chinese restaurant in the area. Service was prompt. Ambiance is quiet in the waiting area. Food was delicious, fresh and tidy. I eat here all the time. There are a few Taste of Chinas in the area. I've been to all at least several times. I swear there is something about the one in Plainfield. Their meat is so tender! It's so good! I drive out special from where I live to the Plainfield one because I want them to make it. Also large portions for great prices. :) Very happy customer. read more

I happened to drive by and was craving Chinese food so I stopped by for some take-out. The place is small so there's only one table and I think that's more for people waiting for their food than actually eating there. I ordered one of the standard chicken dishes and a boba drink. It was alright but I've had much better. The boba was really not cooked thoroughly as it was really hard in the middle. What happened to this restaurant? It's been here forever - I always came here. They are putting out some weird food- sweet and sour chicken - not enough sauce- only pineapple - no green pepper or tomato- the battered chicken was nasty like it had been in the fridge and microwaved - soft - not crispy- Pot stickers - the thickest- grayest looking dumpling and barely crispy on the bottom - all of it looked bad - the textures were off and the taste was just as bad! The food was very tasty but I almost had a heart attack when they gave me the total of over $73 dollars. That same order at our normal place is at least $25 less. This place is awesome!!!! The owners are super nice and friendly and they really know how to make good Chinese food!! The wait time is usually always short and the prices are fair. They also give you a free order of egg rolls when your order is more than $15 bucks and I swear they have the best egg rolls!!! They also make really good smoothies and drinks!!
