It seems unfair to review a meal delivered by Uber Eats but I think an exception can be made when it's this good. Thai familiar this seemed like a good option when I just wanted to stay in. But unfamiliar with this location I went safe with favorites. Thom Yum soup with chicken and Panama curry chicken. Bot ordered spicy. The Uber Eats driver got it here quick and that definitely helps but even if it sat in his trunk for half a day I would have loved it. The soup was off the charts. The sliced cherry tomatoes were an amazingly refreshing addition. As for the panang curry - amazing. Joliet meals are rarely impressive for out of towners-but put this on your short list. We've been wanting to try this place since we moved to the area. We finally got around to it and placed an order for pick up online. Everything was perfect. Our order was ready on time, staff was very kind, and everything was absolutely delicious. We tried a few appetizers, the crab rangoon were my favorite. It's my new and only favorite suburban Thai restaurant. I ordered the following: - Chicken Gyoza (3/10) - Chicken Pad Thai (8/10) - Spicy Jungle Soup (20/10) The chicken gyoza was not great at all! It was very bland. I enjoyed the chicken pad Thai, I added veggies to it! It wasn't the best of the best I've ever had but it wasn't the worst either. I enjoyed the veggies I included. Lastly, the SPICY Chicken JUNGLE SOUP was the best thing I tried! It was actually spicy, my nose was running but it was too good not to eat! I actually went back a second time just to have the soup! This is my second time at Som Za. We always come here before going to the Forge for concerts. This last time I brought a group of 5 people with me, we were able to find a table at 5:30 but the restaurant filled up quick afterwards. There's only about 5 tables in this place since it's so tiny. I know online they've mentioned that they're understaffed (there was only 1 guy working the front and waiting tables, he was doing everything I felt kind of bad) so the service is pretty slow, but we weren't in a hurry and this place is worth the wait. The first time I came here in 2020 I just had the crispy tofu appetizer and the seaweed salad, both were phenomenal. This time I had the tempura udon and had an out of body experience. It was SO good. I'm allergic to pork so it's really hard for me to find soups that aren't in a pork broth or have pork in them, this udon had a shoyu broth and it was the most flavorful soup dish I've ever had. The green onion, sprouts, crab cake and the perfectly batterer and fried tempura was actually to die for I've been thinking about my meal ever since and am trying to justify the 45 min car ride back lol. My friends had the chicken katsu the tako yaki appetizer, the pad Thai and the orange chicken, which my friend said it was the best meal he's ever had. I love Som Za, I wish this place was closer and I wish I would've taken some pictures to show off how good the food looked too, but if you're in the area please consider checking this place out, even if you just get take out. Best Thai food I've had in a long time. Very fresh ingredients, friendly staff, and flavorful food. We ordered the Thai coffee, red curry, spicy chicken salad, and the egg rolls. The spicy chicken salad was my favorite. Freshly chopped romaine lettuce (and not the cheap iceburg), cilantro, spices...YUMM! My husband loved his red curry with added shrimp. Flavor packed curry with big perfectly cooked shrimp. Spice level for both our meals was great for our taste. Kept the water closeby, but still kept eating, lol. Eggrolls were nice and hot. Self serve since they're short of help but we didn't mind at all. I love the simple, yet relaxing ambiance. Place is clean and friendly guys. I find that the quality of the food at most Asian restaurants is proportional to the level of tackiness in their decor. There's nothing wrong with the decor at Som Za, but it's definitely a hole in the wall and there's nothing fancy about it. Thats fine by me because the food is the feature here, and it's good! If I had complaints it would be that there are no fresh Thai spring rolls (you know, the ones with veggies, rice, and tofu wrapped in clear rice paper), the Rama is served with rice (I prefer it made with wide noodles to soak up that peanut sauce), and they aren't willing to make a vegan version of pad Thai (their sauce has, I believe, shrimp paste, and they aren't willing to make something special to order). That said, the Rama is delicious and the basil fried rice (I get it without egg) is the best I've had. read more

We started the meal With two iced coffee's, they were Thai iced coffee's and they were delicious. They were sweet and very strong and tasted delightful. Next up was Chicken satay,, this came out beautiful it had a small bowl of of diced cucumbers with thinly sliced red onions in s sweet clear dressing. The chicken was dusted with tumeric, perfectly cooked grilled chicken, soft and hot, served with a delicious peanut sauce. Next up was our soup we both ordered Tom Kha soup with chicken, the broth was extraordinary. More perfectly cooked chicken and a delicious coconut broth with a hint of lime, asian mushrooms, and cabbage, personally I would omit the cabbage. My wife had the Massarman Curry and I enjoyed the Kia Kai minus corn. Both dishes came out looking amazing, the curry came in a big bowl with a side of white rice it was sweet, slightly hot and delicious. Just the right amount of spice, I'll Tom chicken, potatoes, onions and a sprinkling of peanuts. It was so good she had it all and drink the broth like soup. My Kia Kai had thin white noodles perfectly cooked, large amount of very lightly seasoned chicken with some pepper and scallions and Chinese broccoli. The portion sizes were about 50% larger than what I'm used to in the city of Chicago.
