Very kind service, however very very slow and had to ask they clean our table‍. The best veggie sushi ever, loved the sweet potato roll and will be back for just that! Husband had bacon fried rice which he enjoyed along with sweet and sour chicken, and tempura prawns, the order was right around $50, I will cut down on price next time by not ordering the second unnecessary roll. We had bought Chinese food here to-go before and werent to happy, it was more like a dollar Chinese not quality and pretty oily. Meh... My family and I went there on Christmas Day for an early dinner which turned out to be a very disappointing experience. The place is huge inside and looked to be decorated like a ballroom from 1920's era Shanghai. Borderline on gaudy really with all the gold trimmings and chandeliers. Strangely, while it appears that no expenses were spared in the decor, our drinks were served in cheap plastic cups (yep the kind you see at cheap chain diners like Denny's) My family of four ordered an appetizer (a cucumber salad), a soup (hot and sour), walnut shrimp, a spicy chicken noodles, beef with scallion, and some sushi. 1. My daughter's entree (walnut shrimp) arrived before we even received our appetizer and soup. 2. When the soup arrived, we were not provided with spoons to eat it and had to wait for some time before we could flag down a waitress. 3. Who ever heard of a Chinese restaurant not serving rice with entrees? Fact was, no steamed rice was provided even though we specifically requested it when ordering our food. Again we had to wait to flag down a wait staff to ask for the rice. The entrees were practically cold by the time we received the rice in order to eat our meals. 4. After waiting for over an hour, with no one ever checking in on us I might add, we found out that the chef never received our son's sushi order (which he was intending on eating as his dinner). Frustrated, we cancelled the order so that we could leave and find somewhere else for our son to eat. 5. The staff was very disorganized and were frantically running around like headless chickens even though the restaurant was not even full nor busy. We had to help ourselves to extra napkins and take out boxes since the wait staff were not available to help. 6. No apology was given for the poor service, no discount offered, nothing... The one positive thing I could say was that the food that we DID receive tasted very good. I will not be back and would not recommend this restaurant due to the poor dining experience I had. The restaurant is very disorganized, poorly staffed, and poorly managed. In my opinion, there are much better restaurants in the area with better customer service who deserve my business. read more

This is my second visit to Taste Wei. The experience was about average. Went here on a Tuesday and they were a little busier than I was expecting. My friend, her two kids and I were seated in a booth as soon as we arrived. The kids high chair that was provided was broken (the seatbelt didn't work) so I had to go back and get another high chair for the toddler. The entire restaurant is bright and has a lot of natural light. Everything there looks very clean. They have this incredible gold mural of Seattle! The view of Mount Rainer is pretty nice too! I believe the server was very busy because he seemed scattered to me. My friend ordered iced tea and it tasted like water. My guess is that it was supposed to be green tea and they added too much ice. I've been here twice now and both times the cocktails have been sub-par. This time I ordered off of their Happy Hour menu. A drink called 'Censored at the Beach'. I couldn't event drink 1/4 of it. I also had to ask the server twice for water with my cocktail, and when my friend wanted a tea refill, the server brought her water instead. Onto the food. We asked the server about any salads that they offered because salads aren't listed anywhere on the menu. He suggested a seafood salad. It was alright. For an appetizer we ordered Shrimp Tempura. It was a good size portion and had a variety of items. The sauce was so good! Yum! For entrees we just shared a bunch of rolls. The "Incredible" Roll was my favorite. The Philadelphia Roll, California Roll, and Salmon & Avocado Roll were all good too. I believe the only kids meal they have is chicken nuggets and french fries. The kids loved it. The fries are crispy and hot. Overall, good meal. I think I'll just stick to ordering water here instead of drink though. read more

Tonight was our first visit, and we will definitely be back. We ordered mixed vegetables, which were perfectly done in a light, well-balanced sauce with fragrant notes of sesame oil. We also got 3 different chef's special sushi rolls, which were a mixed bag. The House Special roll was delicious - simple in the best way to highlight the fresh ingredients. Highly recommended! The Kaki Maki roll wasn't bad, but could shine brighter with the addition of a touch of shiso. The Treasure Island roll is one to avoid. It's unbalanced in flavor and the mango "sauce" (really more of a syrup or glaze) needs a lot of work. I've had similar sushi rolls with fruit sauces before, and they typically taste best when the mango glaze is combined with mayo and a bit of heat. Service was slow and I saw another table get impatient enough to walk up to the register at the front when they tired of waiting for their check. Hmmmm ... not sure. My husband came a couple of weeks ago (alone) and loved it! I'm here (alone) and was just about the only person here - 4:30-ish. Took pretty long to take my order but that's okay. I'm here at a weird time of day so they are probably doing dinner set up stuff. I had tempura shrimp ... it was "ok" but not great. 4 super skinny shrimp and a lot of tempura sweet potato. Giving 5stars today. We came in for lunch and Connie was our server. She was very sweet and very attentive. Giving 4 stars for food, which has been consistently good. But the service is lacking. Was told we had a new server, it really wasn't a busy time of day, but hopefully he gets up to snuff in his serving style to help make this place a 4-5 star every time. Haven't been to Taste Wei in quite awhile, but craving Chinese food and thought we would give it a try again. The food is better than before. We ordered broccoli chicken, shrimp fried rice and beef chow fun. They ran out of the chow fun noodles, and called right back to see if they could substitute thin rice noodles, which were possibly even better. The food was ready in 15 minutes. Each dish was quite delicious, hot and fresh tasting. The portions were large. It seems that Taste Wei is trying really hard to make the take out experience a good one, and they succeeded! Very interesting restaurant. I asked for a recommendation and was told to try the Garlic Chicken... It was a winner, large servings too so the prices make more sense: $13.95 which could easily serve 2 people. The spices and vegetables were well done and the chicken was plenty. I was surprised the first time that I went here that there was a sushi bar in the middle of the restaurant. My family loves the Chinese food and so the last time we went we got sushi! Usually my family heads to Seattle for sushi but NOW this will be where we go! I believe we got 5 sushi rolls and two beers and it was less then $45! The prices depend on how fancy the roll is (no duh) but even the most expensive one was just under $20. Great sushi great Chinese and the view is amazing! Me: China scholar, China consultant, cook, over 40-year fluency in Beijing standard Mandarin Chinese and other dialects, all four skills, 17 years in residence in China, Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, Zhanjiang, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Xianggang. What I ordered: zhajiangmian, 炸酱面, and a stewed version of beef and tomato stir-fry, 牛肉炒西红柿. Review: First, the Chinese character descriptions of the dishes do not match the English translations. Secondly, what is served is not only poorly prepared bastardised versions of original Chinese traditional favourites, but not the same dishes at all. The zhajiangmian was a joke - wrong noodles, wrong sauce, incorrectly garnished. The beef with tomatoes, cooked to death, flavourless, had no tomatoes. When I ordered it, I asked if the tomatoes were fresh. The waitress said, 'Yes, I saw them cut up the tomatoes myself.' The tea, jasmine, or flower tea,花茶, or 茉莉花茶, as the Chinese call it, was not only of poor quality, served just barely warm, but inappropriate, because of its strong fragrance, for service with food. The prep and cooking staff appear to be ethnically Chinese, but the the wait staff, when I was there, mid-day, was all caucasian, and not only ignorant of the nuances of the menu, but dismissive of their ignorance as in - 'How could we possibly know that, we are not Chinese.' Conclusion: This restaurant is an insult to anyone who knows Chinese food, in general, and Sichuan food, in particular. I cannot remember having had a more disappointing, unsatisfying meal, especially as I was beguiled, I admit, by the name, Wei, 味 - 味道，味儿 - which means taste, or flavour. No self-respecting Chinese would patronise this abomination of Chinese cuisine ; no self-respecting non-Chinese should. Poulsbo is a small community at the north end of Kitsap Peninsula, west of Seattle. There is no way that this restaurant could survive even one sitting of customers if it were in Seattle. The owners of the restaurant, and the Chinese staff, are all betting on the presumed ignorance of those in small-town Poulsbo, and provincial Kitsap. 'They do not know Chinese food; so we can serve them anything we like.' For months, I awaited the opening of what I thought might be a decent Chinese restaurant in the area. What a waste of time and expectation! Wei, in Poulsbo, is not worth a penny of your money. Take the ferry, instead, to Seattle. For Sichuan, I highly recommend Seven Stars Pepper, 七星椒, at 12th and Jackson, in the International District, or Chinatown. For the Chinese owners and Chinese staff at Wei, beware, I am certainly not the only guilao, 鬼佬, who knows China, and all things Chinese, better than you. I love Chinese food. Szechuan, Mandarin, or Cantonese, Authentic or Americanized, fancy or cheap, when Chinese food is tasty, it's tastier than even Thai. But when Chinese-themed food is bad, it's really, groundbreakingly bad. Taste Wei can best be described as "a very overpriced, not very good Szechuan fusion/sushi atrocity in cheap new construction across the street from Walmart." It's hard to enjoy a meal in restaurants where the stress level of the staff can be felt so heavily. Cavernous, high-ceilinged Taste Wei is extremely noisy and busy with an anxiety-provoking cacophony of sound, and even if/when the relatively new restaurant gets its act together it will always be that way. At least the ostentatious chandeliers and such are worth a chuckle. The menu is quite limited. If you are a vegetarian, for example, there is a whopping one option (snow peas and such with a gloppy brown sauce) on the menu, and it's not very exciting. The three "tofu" options on the menu and one of the two "vegetables" options all have one form of meat or another! If you eat fish like me your options aren't much more exciting. I ordered "Salt and Pepper Cod," and while that's certainly never going to be an entree recommended for folks who need to watch their blood pressure, the sodium level of the deep fried mess was asinine. There were also a couple bones in one nugget. There were also a few stray pieces of gummy beef in my wife's vegetarian dish, which points to a "the-health-department-wouldn't-be-very-happy-about-this" lack of cleanliness. And the glop on my meat-eating friends' plates didn't look any better. The staff was not very familiar with the menu, but our waiter was very nice. There were numerous screwups with our order -- parts of it being forgotten and other parts being sent to other tables. There is a disturbing racial divide between front of house and back of house teams. In spite of its perplexingly humongous size, the bathrooms don't have diaper changing tables, and the pink soap leaves a lot to be desired. Oh, yeah. They serve sushi too. Because, you know, "something for everyone." Except maybe vegetarians and vegans. They're probably one in a hundred people. Hmm, but the restaurant's capacity is over two hundred, and vegetarians disproportionately enjoy Chinese food. Many Chinese restaurants have a vegetarian section on the menu. Based on whatever it was that I tried I would call it "not very good sushi." Taste Wei is clearly a new restaurant that doesn't have its act together yet, but it's also clearly a restaurant that will still be lousy if and when it does get its act together. read more

I don't know what to start with the good, the bad, or the really bad... The night started with us wanting to try out this new place and we thought two months was a good "shake out" period. We came in and the interior is nice. One of the nicest in the area. It's bright, clean, and you are greeted and seated immediately. Downside (looking to the left where you see dishes being washed) We are seated and we realize that the benches move. So every time anyone is seated behind us we also move. This is great for people with mobility issues but maybe only have this on one or two of the benches rather than all? I enjoyed the place settings and the chopsticks being real. When we sat we were told that everything was served family style to share and everything came with rice. Which was fine and dandy. We ordered an appetizer, drinks, an entry, two rolls, and two hand rolls. Drinks - we order Gin and Tonic they were fine nothing to scream about didn't feel like there was much Gin in them. The appetizer - CHICKEN WITH SPICY SAUCE we were warned was a cold dish and that it took some people off guard. We were not told that it was a chicken breast with SKIN ON. This was not okay. It was like eating fat and we couldn't eat it. Plus it no taste, it was not spicy. It was cold fatty chicken swimming in oil. We set it aside after one bite. Next came the entree - LITTLE HOT WOK WITH TOMATO AND BEEF Again not what we expected. The beef loin was so fatty that my first bite was complete fat which I had to spit into my napkin. The dish was bland. There was no flavor and the cucumber tasted old. Not fresh not like a wok cooked but the dish seemed more stew like since the veges were wilted and soft not crisp like a wok cook would be. This dish too got set aside and not eaten. We asked for it to be taken away and I asked for more napkins. They immediately took the wok dish away but left the appetizer food that we had pushed to the edge of the table. We had to ask it to be removed as well. About 20 minutes later we were told that they were just training a new sushi chef and it would be awhile for out sushi. We were hungry. I started taking notes. About 10 minutes later the manager came over and told us that she had taken off the entree from our bill and offered us another round of drinks on her. Which was kind. We appreciated this. This is excellent customer service. She apologized for the wait and explained it shouldn't be much longer and it wasn't. We were soon roiling in the rolls. However, our hand rolls came out as sushi rolls. :-( we didn't say anything but I did have to ask again for napkins. The rolls were wonderful. Delicious. Exquisite. I will go there for sushi again and only sushi. Plus they do not skimp on wasabi like the other places. I think they need to nail down their menu some more but they are on point with trying and sushi!! read more

If it wants to survive, I really do hope the service improves greatly in this new chinese-style restaurant in the Olhava development area above Poulsbo. The view is outstanding, and the interior can only be described as "beautiful". The dish I had, sweet and sour pork, was presently nicely and tasted good. Now, regarding the service: H-O-R-R-I-B-L-E. It wasn't terribly busy, but the waitress kept missing us while she sometimes over-attended other tables. I received my food at least 20 minutes before my guest received theirs. My guest devoured a small bowl of steamed rice in the meantime. In addition, we were given a small menu with few selections, while other guests were given that same menu PLUS a much larger one with additional selections. Wanting more rice and tea, or at least some attention, the wait staff-- including waiters specifically serving additional rice and tea-- kept flying by us without even eye contact. We even placed our empty rice bowls and tea cups at the front edge of the table to signal "more, please". You don't pay for your meal at your table. You are given the check and must negotiate your way through the incoming, waiting crowd to a small corner desk at the entrance. There is much confusion at this merge! Who wants a seat? Who is trying to pay and leave? Where am I? Can I just leave my payment on my table like other restaurants??? I understand the bumps and dips of a new restaurant while getting situated, but this was ridiculous. The atmosphere was very upscale but not, I couldn't quite put my finger on it. They charged us full price $23 per meal that included salad but they were out of salad so we didn't get one. Two pages worth of sushi on their menu aren't in stock and the wine menu hasn't arrived yet and the waiter didn't know what they had. We did notice multiple people come in, see the prices and leave. Bottom line up front: Chinese buffet quality without the buffet line and prices not warranted by the quality of food... the server was nice, though. I had diced chicken sichuan. My girlfriend had pork and chives. We split a roll. Here's how it turned out: -Diced Chicken Sichuan: 8 piece chicken McNugget quality meat, over cooked with a cup of dried red peppers and a tablespoon of salt... I'm not exaggerating. No further description required. -Pork and chives: Not bad, but not like the menu description. It could have come directly off the line at at any local Chinese buffet, not bad, but not "good" either. Luckily, what was missing in quality was made up for in quantity. My girlfriend's dish was able to feed us both as my chicken not fit for consumption. -The Roll: Chinese buffet sushi quality, sushi restaurant prices. Like the pork and chives, not bad, but definitely not worth the price. -Tea: warm, not hot. -Unrelated to food quality or service: The decor and layout are interesting, in their own special way. You're greeted at the door with a nice view of people washing dishes and cooking. The decor can best be scribed as 'shiny'. Whoever decorated this place had two criteria when selecting material: 1) Is it shiny or an odd color? 2) Is it on sale? The result is a mishmash of random themes which individually could work in an Asian restaurant, but when taken as a whole look like a poorly designed Barbie house. In the end the meal cost $59 for 2. For that price I expect something besides a polite server... unfortunately Taste Wei has nothing else to offer. Avoid, if at all possible. read more

Having now been there three times, think I can fairly write a true review. I have only and ever had great service and must say the Sushi was beautifully presented and totally yummy. Walnut Shrimp and Maggi Shrimp were both divine. Wide rice noodle with beef was yummy. Like other reviewers I have traveled throughout Chine, and quite frankly this version of Chinese was better than most of what I have eaten throughout China other wonderful Dim Sum and Peking Duck in Hong Kong. Give a new restaurant a chance by trying different items each time you. You WILL find a favorite! So glad to have a nicer Chinese style restaurant in our community. read more

Um...WHAAAAT? This place is so weird. I don't really know what to rate it, so I went with 3-stars. I have only been once but I'm pretty sure my assessment is accurate. It's super freaking weird. The decor is over the top. Like gold and marble and chandeliers, super gaudy over the top. When you walk in you don't feel like you're in Poulsbo anymore. The vibe doesn't fit though. It's not a nice restaurant by any means. It's super bright and open, so it's kind of noisy. The service is pretty laughable. Such as, Me: "Whats the special tonight?" Waitress: (across the busy restaurant) "Hey Tom! What's the special?!" Yes that totally happened. The menu is minimal, like you would see at a fancy restaurant, but the food just tastes like black pepper and soy sauce. The meat quality wasn't very good, chewy. The portions weren't very big and it's kind of over priced, which would be find if it was quality. I can't imagine them making enough money to pay for all that gold plated decor. I've thought about going back just to experience the laughing contradiction it is, and to try their sushi, but I'd rather eat chinese food from the deli at Safeway...yea I said it. read more

I am a little surprised by the harsh reviews. We ordered take out and it good. The staff was courteous and helpful. Everything was ready exactly when they said it would be, and well packaged for travel. If you grew up someplace that had Chinese take out and you miss that - this is the place you have been looking for. We had a chicken, shrimp, and noodle dish, and each was very solid and tasty. I seriously wonder what's up with these negative reviews; I am sitting in the parking lot and writing this because I don't want someone else to miss out. I regularly dine in the ID and Richmond, BC - check out my other Chinese food reviews for context. We had four dishes (five counting the complimentary hot and sour soup which was, admittedly, neither). The whole flounder steamed in lemon zest, ginger and soy was a $15.99 special and was one of the best whole fish preparations I've had in a long time. Not sure if the fish was fresh or previously frozen, but the texture was firm, the flavor was mild and the sauce was full-flavored and unthickened as one would expect. Solid 10. Would eat another. The "Diced chicken Sichuan Style" was a very close second to the same dish at Dinesty in Richmond. Small cubes of breaded chicken, dressed with dry-fried dried peppers, Sichuan peppercorn and scallion. The whole numb-burn-numb thing. Also a 10. Best chicken dish I've had in a Washington asian restaurant. Beef Chow Fun with Black Beans was precisely as I expected. I could stand some more fresh garlic, but overall a solid performance. Easy 8.5 - 9. The Pepsi Chicken Wings were ordered on a lark. The wings themselves were perfectly fried. Meaty and genuinely crisp. They also french the skinny end so the meat shrinks towards the meaty end and makes a convenient handle. Wings 10, sauce 3. It was disappointingly bland and gloppy. Service was attentive. The room is gaudy but the view is amazing - water and Mt Rainier. If you order more Americanized dishes, I have a feeling you don't get the A-game. Adjacent tables had kinda wan-looking General Tso's. I can't speak for the sushi either. But I am going to be back again and again for items that weren't otherwise available over here. read more

First time here and the food was good - I've had better California rolls but these went down just fine. The General Tso's chicken came out hot and fresh and was delicious - with the broccoli not over cooked at all. My family and I went here for father's day. One person accidentally ordered awesome rolls. We tried to order Incredible rolls to replace this oversight. She was a tad bit upset because she thought she order Incredible rolls to begin with. So apparently this deeply offended the server. He ignored our table for over 30 minutes. He actively helped the tables around us or checked on them fairly often. And by nearby I legit mean like the booth behind us nearby. We all kept trying to flag him down because all we wanted was to get the Incredible rolls for her. We legit after 35 minutes had to send her husband to find the server actively ignoring us and order the rolls. Okay. Wanted to see what this new place was all about. What a beautiful restaurant BUT the food was not good plus the unprofessional staff was appalling!!! Walking into the bright lights and pseudo glitzy atmosphere of this huge standalone restaurant in the Box Store region of Poulsbo, I felt like I was in someone's fantasy of what elegance is. Behind the large windows should have been a seedy casino or maybe an indoor swimming pool of a motel. Food was as poor as others have described already. I'd love to see the cornstarch bill. The only clue that I was eating chicken was the description in the menu. I guess I am trusting A must: You must see the huge dining room with throne-like chairs and round table. When we were there, there were little kids at the table who seemed dwarfed by the scale Skip this place (The owners also have a restaurant in Silverdale) and head to the International District unless you feel like a tour of this out of place idea of a palace. read more

Terrible, I thought the entire experience was going to be excellent. It was one of those days in Kitsap county where everybody has lost power but Poulsbo still had power, know what I mean?! So we get into Taste Wei, the view looks fantastic as the waiter put us in our booth. Then I noticed that the glass tabletop was broken in the corner. I move us to another table and that one is broken too but it is covered in scotch tape. THIS HAS GOT TO BE A COINCIDENCE! I check all the tables and I am not kidding, every single one is broken in a corner and covered in tape. That means the management is aware! So I move us to a table, its a bit big for us but I can't have my kids catching themselves on broken glass. The waiter brings us our tea, and what do you know? My tea cup has a huge crack in it. This is unsanitary and dangerous! I pointed all this out to my waiter to which he said "It is O.K. it has tape on it, and they just washed the tea cup so it is O.K. too." Sooooooo I wouldn't recommend it. If this is how they do things in the front of the house, what are they doing in the back? read more

This place is beautiful on the inside. I really enjoyed the layout of the place and the decor was very well done. The food was pretty good. We liked the chicken fried rice and pork sweet and sour a lot. The beef chow fun was OK. My family didn't care for it that much but I liked it OK; the beef in it though was fantastic but the noodles were not that great. They also serve sushi which my son and I were excited to see. We did the California roll and it was yummy. All in all a great addition to Poulsbo and we'll be back. I can't wait to try other dishes. read more

I have been here twice and the staff is very pleasant and friendly. I was less impressed with the main meal items I ordered as there wasn't much taste, but the sushi was spectacular. Came back the second time for a full sushi meal - and was in heaven with all - service, price and taste! I ordered one small regular meal item to pair with the sushi and it was better the second time with great taste. I would recommend the sushi, the veggie tempura platter and the Mai Tai! Will definitely be back for more. read more
