The food here is very good. I have eaten here three times and found the food to be very good and the staff friendly and attentive. It's got a good Japanese vibe with the decor something you see in Japan. I have tried the tempura udon on the lunch menu and it is excellent. It was busier than usual. I don't think I've seen it so packed. We had to wait for about 10 minutes. Again, not long, but not the usual. They don't have very many beverage choices. They probably have good alcoholic ones, but I don't drink alcohol. I got water. I got pickled beans sprouts, (they're so good), potato croquettes (another fave, but I had to ask for the sauce. They gave me a big thing of it), and cucumber rolls. After waiting a while, I asked about the rolls. They came out about 2 minutes after asking about them. I wonder if it had been sitting or something. They apparently put wasabi in each roll, which they don't usually do. I like when it's plain. Everything ended up good, but it seemed like an off night. Need some sushi for lunch or dinner? This place has got some fresh fish ready to serve up! We started off with some vegetable tempura and gyoza. Hot and very well battered tempura and the gyoza was ok; a little crispy around the edges. Then we got the a few sushi rolls and then the Ahi Tower. This was presented beautifully and very well flavored. Nice atmosphere and good prices. Green tea was good but could be served a little hotter. Only one server during lunch time to take phone orders and tables so patience is needed. All in all, very good and tasteful! read more

My friend took me here having hyped it up quite a bit. We were disappointed to find it was a different restaurant a couple storefronts down from the original which is sitting empty. The food was nothing special. I ordered nabeyaki and they said it came with tempura but instead it came with a few soggy strips of chewy fried dough? No fried shrimp, no fried veggies. Friend got stir fried noodles with beef and it tasted like cheap Chinese restaurant food. So sad that the integrity of the original restaurant is completely lost. Got take out sushi tonight, which is usually amazing as Hakata is our go to spot. However, tonight something was just off. We ordered three of the fancier rolls and a smaller spicy tuna roll. Not sure if something was wrong with the rice tonight, but all of the bigger rolls instantly fell apart when trying to pick pieces up with chopsticks. The spicy tuna roll had a weird color to it and first bite instantly left a weird fishy taste in my mouth, way out of the range of the normal fresh spicy taste we're used to. Don't know if they have a new chef in training or something but for the $90 we paid for sushi tonight it was very disappointing and a far drop down from what we are used to getting. read more

The food and service is really good. The floor and tables are disgusting. The floor is absolutely sticky and will practically rip your shoes off. The bottom of the chairs have never been cleaned and have horrible brown dirt all on them. The tables and surrounding area is sticky. Never again! Sashimi wasn't fresh (look and taste was awful), presentation, sloppy - super thick sloppy cuts. Tempura was thick battered and soggy. It looked promising until I took a bite. Bento box - the teriyaki chicken tastes like it was made earlier that day, sat, then warmed in the microwave and tossed sauce on it at the end. How do you dry out chicken thigh meat?!? The miso used to be wonderful, instead it tastes like the over chlorinated water served at the table. No soy chunks at all. Sushi roll presentation was sloppy and small. Again, appearance was not fresh and very apparent. The patte was like cat food and super fishy. We waited forever for food. I had to cancel my sake order when food came out and still no sake 30 minutes later. Very sad! This used to be our favorite go to place for years and we stopped going over a year ago when we noticed a downhill trend in quality and service. The service and food quality tonight sealed the deal that we'll never return. $100 wasted! Went to Jo'A for redemption. They've become our replacement. We hoped Hakata had changed but it hasn't and it is worse! Gas station sushi tastes better. Appearance may be better, nice decor, new menus with flashy pictures, but it is far from the quality fresh food you should get. I hope they improve in the future. read more

This used to be the best sushi spot in Kitsap County, stopped going about 6 months ago because of declining quality but decided to give them another shot. The sushi was awful, the fish did not look or taste fresh. The Bento box was a travesty! I am embarrassed to have gone to this place again, but my spouse was seriously craving katsudon, so we thought we'd give it a final chance last Friday night. I got the katsudon too, and it was decent, though the rice seemed overcooked. Dared to order my old favourite of Sugi-san's, the Ichiro rolls, which are supposed to feature smoked salmon with chunks of juicy asparagus. I eat light, so wound up taking the sushi (and two-thirds of my katsudon) home for later. This is why I failed to notice until we'd left that, in the entire sushi order, only ONE PIECE had asparagus. Worse, the fish seemed low-quality, being almost flavourless, while some pieces were pocked with razor-sharp bone shards. Attempting to remove one of these from my mouth got it lodged in the skin of my fingertip, it was that sharp. I threw the rest of the offensive dish away. I often enjoy salmon, so am accustomed to some bones, but never encountered any in this order when Sugi-san made it. The service was fine, so let's say the one star is for the nice waitress, but we will not return. Katsudon is easy to make at home, and I'd make it better. I am glad we managed to catch Hakata when it was still Hakata, under the original ownership. The current place has no right to bear the old name. Didn't dare try the tea since it was so vile last visit, but at least they weren't playing anime theme songs this time. read more

Was sick for nearly a week due to this place. Never again. I ordered the crab nigiri, as I had done many a time, and it shows up looking like fake cra sticks. I point this out to two staff. They assure me that it is "real crab" of course. They explain that things don't look the exact same because the restaurant is under new management. I ate it against my better judgement. Heartbroken. My favorite sushi place has been ruined by new management. Only 7 tables seated, not allowed to sit at the bar...? What the heck, why not. It's not busy at all. Forced to be seated at a table is not how I wanted to start my experience with new management. "Rolls are going to take a long time, maybe you could order entrées instead?" um, excuse me? We are here for sushi. Ordered three rolls, that took 45 min to arrive at the table. Unfortunately our favorite, the spicy tuna, was horrific. Completely inedible. As was the Albacore Tataki. Not fresh, old, oxidized, just straight up disgusting. The whole point of sushi is to have fresh sliced/cut fish. Not this pre prepped, sliced earlier in the day, then stacked in bowls and compressed from other bowls on top. And to top off the night, while we were sitting there other people came in and they were allowed to sit at the bar. What a slap in the face to us. Why them and not us? Rude. I guess I'll be saving a lot of money on my sushi budget, definitely sad to say this, but I won't be returning here unless by some miracle Sugi comes back. I'll mourn Hakata. read more

GREAT customer service. This is the most authentic Japanese restaurant you can get in the Silverdale/Bremerton area. If you like cream cheese in our sushi don't ask for it here because they don't do that. Overall the food is good, and the menu is plentiful. There is something on the menu for everyone. And don't be afraid to try anything out of your norm you will likely surprise yourself and enjoy every bite of it. Would i go back? Absolutely! Would i recommend you go? Absolutely? What dish would I recommend? Spicy Chicken! The restaurant is busy but not noisy at all, I think this place would appeal to most people. I'm rounding my 3.5 overall rating up to a 4, it's well deserved. read more

I have to give these guys props. The food, for silverdale anyway, is pretty legit. The family that runs, and the sushi chef, is why I gave it 5 stars. We came on a sunday to escape the heat as we don't have AC and sushi sounded good. The son of the owners was amazing. We asked if they ever throw out their carcasses after filleting, out of curiosity, and he said to come back on Tuesday and they would give us one or two. (since we were going crabbing the next week). This is way above and beyond and nothing anyone should ever ever expect, but this one act of generosity (and preventing it just going to the trash) made us fans for life. This is the neighborhoody feel good feels you want from a community restaurant. The food is quite good, and is a good value for the price as well. Oishikatta desu. read more

Here is the edited review: We ordered takeout from Hakata in Silverdale tonight. Our order included a tempura appetizer, a large Kobachi, two Ichiro Rolls, a Spicy Tuna #2, a California Roll, and a Spicy Salmon #2. The Kobachi, which is usually plenty for my family of five to share, was much smaller this time compared to what we have received in the past. When I called to address this issue, I was told that I could ask for more next time and they would provide it. The Ichiro Roll, a family favorite that we have been ordering for years, was missing the mayo sauce that is typically included. The Spicy Tuna #2 lacked the expected spice, as it usually has mayo, garlic, and a bit of spice, but this time it was lacking in flavor. Although I have never tried the Spicy Salmon #2 before, it seemed to lack any spice or additional flavors aside from the salmon itself. The total cost of the order was $75.35. It was disappointing to spend that much on food that was mediocre at best. Hakata has always been my go-to sushi spot, and it has been good since the new owners took over. However, tonight's experience has left me questioning whether I will continue to frequent this place. read more
