We've been to this restaurant in Bellevue and wanted to try Issaquah because it was closer. It was my wife's birthday party last night and we came here with a rather large group. Everything was well organized, including extra chairs and some really nice decorations. We had a couple of servers who were present at all times, removing empty dishes and making sure that our water glasses and tea were always full. I can't even begin to tell you everything that we ordered but what I can say is every dish was delicious. We ate everything and that's saying a lot. Each combo is served with your choice of either fried rice or white rice, pickled cucumber, fried egg, egg roll and a sweet dipping sauce for the egg roll. Each lunch combo comes with a soda and a bowl of either hot & sour soup or egg drop soup. Beware this is a Szechuan restaurant so most dishes are spicy. I think this place is good for what it serves. Fast service and friendly staffs. This is NOT your average chinese restaurants; and its very clear based on their offering. They have the exotics foods like bullfrog, chicken gizzard and the whole nine yards. The foods are also spicy!; the sechuan spicy kind where it numbs your mouth. Is it good? I think so But it deff is an acquaire taste; and you will better off ordering from their " chinese america " section of the menu if you are too afraid trying something new. We went for lunch after seeing there was a lunch menu. It was great to see more on that menu than the standardized American fare. With the guidance of the personable waiter my husband ordered the beef & sauerkraut and I had the braised eggplant off the lunch menu plus the hot and sour potatoes from the regular menu. We were blown away. The food came out in a divided tray, with cucumber salad, small eggrolls and a fried egg. All was fresh, delicious and hot (temperature and spicy!) The portion size was ample and we didn't really need the potatoes but they were also delicious and we had enough to take home. We have watched this space transition over the years and the result is a simple, open space with enough lattice and line effect to create character. Remember this is Szechuan style so it will have spice. Lately I've had to drive to Bellevue to satisfy that yen for spice, but no more. Stay in Issaquah! Yum. read more

Went to Dan Gui for dinner with a friend and it was alright, Issaquah definitely needed a Chinese restaurant! We ordered Scallion pancakes and Cumin lamb with Sake. Went in on a Friday and I ended up liking this place , I got the chicken fried rice , walnut shrimp, kung pow and veggie spring rolls . I really liked the walnut shrimp for now it made it to the top of my list of shrimp. Really tasty The other two dishes were really good too. The kung pow was spicy, maybe from the peppers that they chopped up and mixed in. The spring rolls were crispy like I like. I did order tea but I don't think it ever came or I missed drinking it. They did a have an American Chinese style food on the menu too. Towards the end of the meal I did end up knocking my water over , but missed all the good so it was ok. More than likely will be back since I'm in the area a lot. I just hope it doesn't be come one of the places that have the curse of 3 . *This is based upon a single visit, so let that color how you view this review* Ambiance is fine although if you're looking for a place with what you might expect to have traditional Asian decor, this isn't the place. It took over the old Krawbar restaurant (which we never visited), so perhaps the rather stark interior and overly bright lighting was part of the original restaurant. Nothing was badly done, but it felt more like it could be any kind of restaurant rather than one with a great variety of authentically prepared food from various regions in China. Food was okay if a little underwhelming. We tend to order what we know when we first try out a place so that when we go back we have a baseline. We had kung pao chicken and shrimp fried rice. The chicken was fragrant with garlic and ginger but unfortunately it cooled very quickly and the fragrance disappeared. The rice was plain jasmine rice, which was good, but it was not "fried." It was just steamed with a tiny amount of diced carrot and some green peas. The shrimp were precooked and bland, and there were exactly seven shrimp in the plate. The rice also cooled very quickly and that delightful jasmine undertone disappeared. I ordered the hot & sour soup, which arrived before the food, and my dining partner ordered the egg rolls, which came nearly as we were done eating. Both were "appetizers," so we expected them to come at the same time and before the main meal. Service was okay. We had three visits by the wait staff: the original order, a drop by to check how we liked our food, and then a final check. Nothing out of the ordinary. It was a busy night, and we understand that a busy restaurant can mean that people are doing their best, so we didn't fault that. One suggestion about serving is that they might want to consider using bowls and not flat plates for their serving dishes. The food cooled very quickly on the table, and cold food doesn't have the same fragrance and texture as hot food. We like to go out for food and we look for places that offer a wide variety of options, so it's likely we'll be back, but we might need to figure out how to make sure the food stays hot. read more

Wife and I had lunch here recently. They have a nice and interesting lunch special menu. I selected "Stir-Fried Beef with Sauerkraut" and wife, "Braised Eggplant." We very much enjoyed the dishes. My beef dish had a bit of a kick, but just the way I like. Wife's eggplant, a hint of sweetness. And, for the price , you get lots of food. Service is fast and friendly. When wife asked for a box for her left over food, a young lady took the box and added additional rice, saying it would make it a nice small meal. Thank you! Interior was nice and open, service was good. Ordered Mao Xue Wang, dry pot intestines and butterflied garlic shrimp. The dry pot came out quickly and had good seasoning albeit not crispy. Mao Xue Wang had a lot of sichuan peppercorns (which I love). Unseasoned tripe on the top went well with the intense broth. Blood was over cooked. Both the dry pot and mxw would be better with sliced ginger (constant at all the other spots I've tried this dish). Garlic shrimp took a long time to come out, got it for our son who just watched us eat our spicy dishes. Dropped in for dinner on their 2nd open day (Saturday). So nice to have another option for Chinese food, specializing in Sichuan cuisine. The restaurant was busy with a few large parties celebrating the restaurant opening. Ambiance: Modern decor with lots of wood and dark accents. They have a variety of "booths", small tables, and large family tables. Food: - Stir-fry beef with jade mushrooms - Garlic a-choy - Chicken and broccoli - House special fried rice (shrimp, chicken, beef) All delicious with generous portions and the right amount of gravy, which runs on the drier side and what I prefer. Service: Helpful, although the kitchen was slammed with all the patrons. So, dishes arrived a bit slower than expected. It was getting late, and too lazy to cook. Just left Costco, and didn't want to go too far. Had been wanting to try this place because I saw that they had intestines on their menu. We got there an hour before closing, it the place was still about half full. Staff was welcoming, and brought over menus when were seated, but they also have a QR code for the menu on the table. We wanted to start off with the chili oil wontons, but they were out. I ordered the Dry Pot Pork Intestines, my bf ordered the Chili Chicken, and then we also ordered the House Special Noodles to share (the table ordered it next to us, and it looked so good, I had to order it, too). The portions were bigger than we'd expected. The Dry Pot Pork Intestines and the Chili Chicken had lots of peppers in them, so they both had a nice little kick. I asked for chili oil on the side for the noodles. Everything was tasty. We enjoyed the food, and had lots of leftovers. The Chili Chicken pieces were much smaller than we expected and are used to, but still good; we just prefer meatier pieces. Delicious Szechuan cuisine in Issaquah. We loved how they did the cumin lamb because it was nice and meaty without being too dry. Very tender and flavorful! We also got pork intestines dry pot (fair amount of intestines, but we wished there was more celery to balance out the dish's oiliness) and Chinese cabbage with chopped chilies, and both were excellent as well. The restaurant is really pretty inside - there were bowls of fruit on the tables, and everyone was very welcoming. We ordered takeout - fried rice, noodles, and beef and broccoli. I had requested no veggies on the chicken fried rice, but it had veggies in it. The beef with broccoli did not come with steamed rice - I guess I needed to order that separately. The food all tasted great and fresh. The prices are pretty high (esp if the entrees don't come with rice). We've been excited for Dan Gui to open in Issaquah and walked into their soft opening today when we saw the door was open. The inside looks great, with booths, bar seating, and several large tables with lazy Susan's. We ordered - salt and pepper okra - mixed dry pot - stir fried string beans - grilled Japanese egg tofu - chicken and broccoli - rice Appreciated that they clearly marked which dishes were fully vegetarian which made it easy for the vegetarian in our party. If you like the real deal in Chinese food, try this spot! I've enjoyed Dan Gui in Bellevue, but am so pleased that there is now one in Issaquah! I used to live in China and often crave the spices and flavors I enjoyed while there. It's hard to find out here, but Dan Gui delivers! Their menu is not the typical General Tso's, Chow Mein, Fried Rice. It's filled with complex spicing, and what I called "chopchop" meat - bite size morsels filled with flavors, maybe a bone, maybe not, but just right for a trial mouthful of something delicious. And that is what you should do. Try something you've never had before, take a little culinary adventure and order something new. The staff will explain what it is if you would like that, or maybe you can just dive right in. Get a nice Qing Dao to wash it down and calm the heat. While you are there, ask for Matilda ~ She's a wonderful lass direct from China via Albuquerque!
