We paid the extra $$$ for the Valentines experience and it was the best date we've been on in 15 years. The experience was fantastic. I expected a lot of attitude and obnoxious foodie BS, but everyone on staff and all the other participants were great. The chocolate tasting was a great guide to get the full experience of chocolate. The vinegars were a pleasant surprise. When I read that they did vinegar tasting too, I was very skeptical, but holy crapy, the passion fruit vinegar was like heaven. The location it is a mix between pre war and 1920 design. The business is based on chocolate but the different vinegars and wines. The tasting Phil lead us on was amazing I have never know how many different tastes that chocolate has. Really wish I could give half stars as this would more be a 3 and a half than a 3. The turkey proscuitto sandwich is on their "savory" menu but is quite sugary, which is not a savory kind of thing in the food world. That being said, savory also comes from the latin for taste and that may have been the play on words they were going for here even if it came across poorly. I'm not really a fan of sugary with patches of incredibly salty dishes, but there is no question that it gives a distinct flavor to the food that I am sure would appeal to many (my wife being one of them, she thought the sandwich was delicious.) Their balsamic vinegar salad was an awesome addition to the sandwich and really the reason you would come to Taste in the first place is their ambiance and chocolate. Holy cocoa that was amazing mousse! I wanna eat it for days! So a mixed, but still happy bag and I'd like to go back again, just no more sandwiches for me. read more

I really want to like this place, but it seems that my expectations clash with what the owner envisions for the place, and he won't let anything interfere with that vision and Passion, even customers. As an explanation, I had stopped in the shop a few times and was impressed by the ambience, the beautiful decor, and the chocolate. I was told about the tasting sessions, and it seemed interesting. The sign out front is warm and inviting, "come in out of the cold," "hot chocolate," "sipping chocolate." My husband and I happened in on a Friday night, apparently in the middle of a "tasting." We sat quite a ways away from this group, but the presenter, who I think is the owner, felt such a need to project, he was so loud! That he was literally yelling at these people who were politely murmuring at his jokes. The tasting we saw going on was entirely of vinegar, which if it's a big part of the $20 tasting, seems a disappointment, besides the absolute discomfort of being yelled at the entire time. A group of women sitting next to us wondered what was going on. The presentation was so loud, it appeared uncomfortable to everyone there. We came back on another day, and just ordered something simple to go. Seriously, it was if the clerk tried to dissuade us from ordering, saying it would be a minute, as she needed to attend to other customers doing a mini tasting, no kidding, at least 3 staff for maybe 4 customers and 45 minutes later she comes out with the order... My opinion is that this business will do better to improve their service and focus on making the customer feel welcomed and comfortable. read more

This is a review for Afternoon Tea at Taste which I highly recommend. Taste is always great at making your experience feel special and tea was no exception. It may seem expensive at $23 a person but you will leave stuffed. It comes with three courses served all once: sandwiches, scones and pastries. The sandwiches were all delicious and varied. My favorite was a roast beef on a perfectly flaky croissant that tasted like it was made in house. The scones were good, made excellent by the jam, lemon curd and marscapone cheese, the latter of which I finished off with a spoon. All of the desserts were excellent and included one of the best raspberry macarons I have ever had. I do recommend saving a sandwich to eat in between the sweets as they were either very tart or very rich. If you are not a fan of tea, Taste offers their hot or cold chocolate, dealcoholized wine or a Fentiman soda (rose lemonade is my favorite.) However, their tea selections are excellent. The mint, cacao or chocolate mint teas are all great. They do have a black tea option, but it is great to be able to go to a place where their herbal tea options are actually good and not just a tea bag from a grocery store. Overall I enjoyed Taste more than the Grand America, which is the only other afternoon tea service in Utah I am aware of. read more

This place was a fun new experience for me!! I loved the background I got on 7 different chocolate witch where all delicious!! My favorite part was surprisingly the vinegars!! They where unreal!! My favorite was the pok pok som vinegar in the ginger flavor. It was like nothing I have ever tried!! The atmosphere her is spectacular and beautiful!! I noticed so much beautiful art throughout the cafe and after commenting on it found out that the owner of taste actually was an artist as well!! Went for lunch looking for something unique. Disappointing. I order hot tea with my food and it came after I was mostly done so it was too hot to drink before I had to leave for work. I was very dissatisfied with my Taste experience. It's all about the expectation, and they did a terrible job of advertising what the $20 chocolate tasting was about. At the time, the only thing that the website said, was that there was a chocolate tasting. This was not the case. It included an olive oil and vinegar tasting as well. Now, I'm sure there are plenty of you out there that think chocolate, olive oil, and vinegar sound great together, but I was wildly dissatisfied, and quite frankly, a little embarrassed because I brought a date and she didn't enjoy the oil or vinegar either. Not only that, but with a $20 cover charge, I expected a little more than 9 1/4 oz pieces of chocolate. The long and the short of the story is - don't trust the information on the website. If you know what you're getting yourself into based off prior experience or from a referral, trust that, but not the website. To be fair - the chocolate that I did eat was very good, and the one guy gets really excited about chocolate, which is entertaining. Because of that, it's 2 stars instead of just 1. read more

First, their chocolate chip cookie was the best I've ever had in my life, and I love cookies. The texture was perfect--a little crisp on the outside but chewy and soft on the inside, and the chocolate chips weren't overly sweet. So you have to schedule a tasting online, or by calling ahead. If you just try and walk in off of the street there will be much confusion and disdain. After experiencing this we heard about the tasting from a friend and gave it a shot. It was incredible, they have you sample chocolates from all over the world. They do really well to educate you on how the preparation and making of the chocolate affects the taste, as well as what to look for when you are tasting chocolate. We have had our eye on this place for a while and finally decided to visit it on a date night. We walked in to a large group of people doing a formal tasting with a VERY spunky and passionate man leading them through a variety of chocolate, vinegar and olive oil tastings. We were quite intrigued. A girl took us to the bar and explained what was going on and asked us if we would like to do a mini tasting ourselves. Of course we obliged. Only problem: I don't like chocolate. Bizarre I know. But my wife loves chocolate so she was in heaven tasting assorted flavors and varieties from all over the world. Some of her favorites were the porcini mushroom chocolate, the Hungarian paprika, and the rye bread salted chocolate. Then we tasted some delicious flavored olive oils, a cherry balsamic vinegar, and others. To top it off the best part of it all was the $3 ice cream sundae we ordered with strawberries, a tangerine olive oil, and the cherry balsamic vinegar. Heavenly. The people there were knowledgeable and friendly and you didn't feel pressure to buy anything which made you almost more inclined to. Came here on a weekend night and I actually liked that it wasn't too busy or overcrowded. Service was good, loved that they brought out a sample of the ice cream. It was delicious! Great atmosphere, some of the richest chocolates to be had. It is a specialty version of Tony Caputo's. The experience with Phil or any of his other trained chocolate Tasters is a must and especially great for date nights. If you decide to go home with any of the chocolate it will get pricey, but will last you quite a while (if you eat it properly). read more

Maybe I just came on a bad night, but we had terrible service when we came here. So this review is based purely on their service. We waited for 20 minutes for someone to even talk to us, and this was up walking up to them and asking for service. There were only two girls working, and they were extremely rude. This was a Saturday night too, so many people walked in and walked right out because they weren't being served-- so maybe this is also a staffing issue. We paid for and ordered our ice cream, and waited another 30 minutes for them to tell us that they were out of ice cream. Maybe I will write another review when I actually am able to try the food, but based on the service-- one star. read more
