to be honest I know Obama came here and all and thats when it got even more famous.....but ive been eating here since i was 4 and im 25 now. I remember taking their subs field trips in elementary school. dont know what it is but their turkey with american is unbeatable. its got to be the tangy taste in the vinegar or the onions. usually get everything and mayo with whatever meat and cheese we want that day. Its like Katz but without the high prices.... You have to know what you want and the lines are long but they keep it moving... I was like what is that... I was expecting a bigger place with more seating... But its small and the bathroom were SO CLEAN!! This is a classic, old school deli. Great bread, good quality meats and lots of it. The prices are also cheap ($6 - $9). If you're looking for a great sub, chips and a soda this is your place. If you looking for wraps, salads, smoothies or frittatas go to Subway. read more

I know I'm in the minority but I have to agree with Ken C. and Manoj T. This place is nothing to write home about and way overrated! I've loved sub sandwiches since I was a young boy so when I heard this place was voted one of the best sub shops in Jersey, I figured I'd give it a try. I ordered the basic Italian sub, the #1 on the menu, which is ham, salami and provolone. How could they mess that one up, right? I ordered the half on whole wheat which was on the larger size for a half order, the bread was good and the price was cheap, around 4 dollars and change, hence, the 2 stars. The cold cuts which should be the star of the sandwich fell way short. First of all the ham was "pressed" ham. My only other choice as far as I could tell was "boiled" ham which I spotted on another sandwich. Seriously? Boiled or pressed ham? What's wrong with using a good quality regular ham like you can get at your favorite deli? I saw them putting it on my sandwich and I knew right away I wasn't going to be thrilled with it! And I was right. It didn't even look like ham! Then came the salami. I'm used to eating a high quality Genoa on my subs. This looked like a very basic "Hard Style" salami and that's just not as good as Genoa. It's an Italian sub for crying out loud! Use Genoa! The provolone looked like every other provolone I've had on a sub so I won't comment on it. They only put 3 very thinly sliced pieces of meat and cheese on my sub which I thought was really skimpy. The lettuce, onions and tomatoes were basic along with the oil, vinegar and oregano. I didn't notice a lot of extra things to put on your sandwich such as jalapanos or banana peppers which I can get for free at my current favorite sub shop, Jersey Mike's. Overall I thought the sub was quite bland tasting with not enough meat and cheese and definitely not worth going out of your way for! Let the president eat there. Even though Jersey Mike's is a chain, I'd eat there anytime before ever going back to this place! They have way better quality cold cuts, better condiments, more choices for drinks and chips and lots more room to eat in if you prefer to do so. It may cost a bit more, but at least they put enough meat and cheese on your sandwich. I don't know about you, but I don't mind paying a bit more for better quality. If you have to give it a try, go and see for yourself. Then compare it to Jersey Mike's or your current favorite sub shop. I think you'll agree that this place is way overrated and certainly not a place to go out of your way for. I heard the tuna sub is supposed to be good, but that's just not what I usually eat. My wife eats the tuna at Jersey Mike's and says it's wonderful. Another sub shop I think is way better is the one on the main street in Manasquan a couple of blocks from the beach. I can't think of the name, but I had many great tasting subs there when I was a regular at the shore. Try it if you're ever down there. read more

I've been here twice now and both times the sandwiches are just so disappointing and the servers are just so rude. I reserved my first review in hopes of maybe the next time I came around everything would get better, but it hasn't got better, it's worse. The servers are still rude and the sandwiches are mediocre. The bread is so blah! Plain and soggy, the quality of the meats are bad, I ordered a prosciutto and cappicola sandwich and the prosciutto was practically ham with ground pepper on it, it neither tasted nor looked like prosciutto and the cappicola was more like spicy bologna. Eww! On top of all of that, rude servers who seem to be bothered to work there. Would never go back and would not recommend. read more

The subs in this place are good. Have not had issue. These are real subs, not like at Subway. At lunch time these is always a line and they move fast. Production line fast, 1 person cuts, next dresses bread, next wraps and another for cashier. They may not use higher brand cold cuts, but nonetheless good. I may be nit picky, but how about some Pepsi products? Also note, you get a 5% discount for cash orders vs credit card purchases. read more

The Best Sub Shop ever. All the cold cuts are very fresh and are sliced when you order so they are never dry like Subway. They bread is perfect being soft but not too soft. They give the perfect amount with meat, lettuce, portions. I always order oil, vinegar, mayo, salt and pepper and they always put the right amount so the mixture is so tasty without make the sandwich soggy and over saturated. I recommend the turkey subsand roast beef subs. I also love the pepperoni sub which is not too salty which I order with mayo and hot Italian pepper sauce. The worst experience ever.....ordered our food...the person read it back correctly, however it was made completely the opposite....asked for extra Mayo got zero, ask for oil vinegar and oregano got none....asked for one macaroni salad got two....ask for hot peppers got none....what the hell....what I have noticed is that the quality and care has really gone done during their busy hours where it seems to be quantity over quality....spoke to the manager because I got an all cheese sub, but wanted only American and provolone there were two extra thin slices of cheese on my sandwich...he argued me down that this wasn't true because he sliced the cheese, but why would I lie...he offered to replace them, but I was over it...first because of his attitude and second because I'd have had to drive all the way back there about 25minutes both ways....over Tastee if I wanted a subpar sandwich I'd go to Subway or WaWa..... read more

I've been a fan of Tastee Subs for more than 10 years. When I had moved to Elizabeth I would come back just to get a sub from here. They are seriously the best I've ever had. Over the weekend, I ordered a party platter from them. Six whole subs, 3 lbs of potato salad, 3 lbs of macaroni salad, and all the fixings on the side for $66 is really reasonably priced, especially for such great food. read more

Knocking this place down a star because of recent experiences at better delis. The main reason is the bread. Although you get a HUGE sandwich here, the bread is super soft and doesn't satisfy like a nice loaf of semi-hard Italian bread. This is more a sub I would eat as a kid from blimpee. I always make sure to order the honey turkey sub with plenty of their hot pepper mix on the side; perfect blend of spice and tanginess. Their food is always consistent. The bread never gets soggy, the lettuce thinly sliced & the tomatoes perfeclty chopped. It's true, their building is very nondescript & leaves much to be desired in the way of aesthetics, but let's be real....that's not why we go in search of great subs. The service is really fast and efficient. They have the assembly line concept down pact. I've never been able to precisely describe what makes the subs at Tastee Sub so good. Yet every time I go, I love it. Perhaps a part of that is hometown nostalgia. Its one of the places that immediately comes to mind when I think about Edison, and one of the places I typically visit when I'm back in town. Every afternoon, for as many years as I can remember, the line is out the door at lunchtime, and its the kind of place people just keep coming to. When old friends of mine who have long since left NJ come back to visit, they always ask to stop here. Coldcuts are always fresh, the wheat bread is particularly good, the hot pepper blend is my favorite. I'm a big fan of their tuna sub. They're just sandwiches. Nothing super special, I could do the same with some bread and cold-cuts from the supermarket, but if you're lazy the can pile the meat on right and fill you up.
