    6. Roast Beef Sub

Yes this place is an institution. Or at least a part 2 of an institution. But riddle me this: Why why why were 2 whole subs, 1 bag of chips, and 2 drinks $42.50??? FORTY TWO FIFTY. JESUS JAQUAVIUS CHRIST. and the best part is it was all served with a side of attitude. Every time we come in here there's a lead adult woman who is rude and surly. Yesterday she was off and it was all young people - all of whom were not friendly and appeared to be annoyed that they were working. Like if you're gonna charge me out the booty at least do so with a smile. Hell even a half smile. Don't make me feel bothersome. Also, my husband noticed that their "halves" didn't actually appear to be halves so he upsized to a whole sub just to get the value from these exorbitant prices. That said, the subs were good. Great even. But stuff is too expensive these days to not offer an ALL AROUND great experience. Get it together or else I'll become the next generation saying, "WE GOT FOOD AT HOME!"

When visiting a new area, my motto is "eat where the locals eat." New Jersey is renown for their sandwiches/subs/hoagies - or whatever else you want to call them. All I know is, the combination of meat, veggies, cheese, on fresh Italian bread is simply delicious! I saw the Tastee Sub Shop featured in a YouTube video, and also one of the staff at the office I was working at, raved about the food here. I didn't want to drive up to the Edison location, but thankfully there is another Tastee Sub Shop in nearby Franklin Park. Tastee Sub shop is somewhat of a local legend, with the OG location in Edison having been in operation since 1963!!! Not having been to their Edison spot, some of the folks I went to lunch with mentioned that the Tastee Sub Shop II was almost identical in appearance, décor, and ambiance. This is totally a "no frills" place with a rather basic looking free standing building, drab tile flooring, and a few tables and chairs for dining in. Everything on the menu looked tempting, but I was told when I'm at the Tastee, you gotta order the Number 5, which is the super combo. The number 5 is a combination of the number 1, 2, and 3 sandwiches. And what exactly are all of the meats in the super combo? Pressed Ham, Salami, Boiled Ham, Cappacola, Proscuttini, and Cheese. I probably didn't need the 16 inch since I only finished half of the sandwich while I was there, but at $13.50 for the full size...IT IS A DEAL!!! You walk up the counter, and the friendly staff begins with either a fresh white or wheat Italian bread roll. They load on (and I do mean, LOAD on) the meats, and I opted for the provolone, and lettuce, onion, tomato, vinegar, oil, salt, oregano; I also added deli mustard and hot peppers for no extra charge. The sub was GINORMOUS. It comes sliced into four pieces because it is so large, and it could've easily fed 2-4 people. First thing I noticed was the fresh bread. It was soft and had a great subtle flavor that didn't compete with the ingredients. And did I mention the sub was stuffed with meats? Unlike at some other sub shops, the Tastee didn't skimp, and eat bite I could taste the Italian meats such as the salami, Cappacola, and Proscuttini; the ham also added a nice flavor without being too salty. The veggies were nice and crisp and the toppings especially the oil and vinegar plus spices, just unified the entire sandwich. A similar sandwich back in the DC area would have EASILY been at least $20+ While my small group huddled around a table to enjoy our lunch, there was an almost non-stop stream of customers popping in, ordering their food, and then departing in less that 10 minutes. This is definitely a local favorite. I saved the other half of the sub for dinner that same night...and the food was so good that I "might have" gone back to the Tastee Sub shop a few more times before I left NJ. Bottom line: If you're anywhere near Edison or Franklin Park, it is worth pulling off I-95 and stopping at the Tastee Sub Shop...and don't forget to bring your appetite.

Delicious and fresh sub shop! My husband grew up coming here and he brought me on our latest trip to the area. They slice fresh and eat sandwich is made to order to your liking. They have fresh pickles and chips as well. Very clean inside and lots of parking too! A must go to spot for sandwiches in the area!

This is my go-to sun shop since childhood - I make it a point to visit every time I'm back home in Jersey. My go to has become the roast beef with American cheese, all the toppings plus hot peppers and mayo. The half sub option is two meals - so filling. The line always moves quickly and you can call in your order.

Extra dry sandwich, no mayo or onions - the Super sub

Great sandwiches if you get it during the day time, if you get it on the evening, be warned. Incompetent employees working there. I asked for a super sub with everything minus oil and vinegar with extra onions. What I recovered was a sandwich with oil and vinegar with no mayo , little onions and extra lettuce. It understanding of the store is busy but it was not . It a poor excuse for a person is hired to garnish a sandwich and they don't. I go to this sandwich shop every week and this time my sibling wanted it for dinner and it not acceptable for sandwich artist don't know their job. As mentioned, great crew and staff daytime , incompetent teenagers at night. Pass on this for evening hour's.

I have heard good things about this chain sub shop so had to try it. When I arrived I parked in thie small parking area. They were super busy on NYE but they moved quick. I wanted a hot sub but they didn't served hot subs except for the meatball, so I went with the turkey. I ordered the 1/2 turkey with mayo, mustard, lettuce, tomato, oil and vinegar. They had a system going so it went quick. The sub was pretty big for only a little over $6 and paid with credit. When I got home I dug in and the sub was pretty good. I would like to try the tuna next time. FYI: wheat bread is an additional cost.

No hot peppers or vinegar as requested

This was the WORST EXPERIENCE EVER Please note this location is not an original Tastee Sub Location. I placed an order on door dash with specific instructions see pictures below. When I received my order it was incorrect. While calling to advise the issue I encountered the rudest "manager" I've ever experienced. The female was curt/rude/dismissive and wouldn't provide her name. Do yourself a favor and go to the original Tastee Subs in Edison or make your own sandwich at home.

    Potato Salad was pretty good

Just came from a party with 6 foot. I love taste subs, however the bread was not the standard bread and ruined the whole experience.

I've been wanting to check out this place for a while. I'm Italian and grew up going to mom and pop…read moreItalian markets since I was a young girl. K&S Italian Specialties reminds me of that. The minute I walked in I knew I came to the right place. It really took me back to those nostalgic days with those familiar smells I grew up loving. Everything is made fresh, and to order at K&S Italian specialties. I wound up buying their pasta salad, fresh Italian bread, imported dry pasta and cookies. This place was busy and I saw many people ordering their different types of sandwiches which are large. I love that they have a sandwich with chicken cutlet, broccoli rabe and fresh mozzarella. They make all different kinds of pasta dishes and they do catering too. As I walked around I noticed they have wonderful imported soppressatas, ( dry cured salami's) fresh pastas, and dry pastas, imported olive oils, balsamic's , Italian cookies, delicious Italian breads. Imported meats and cheeses. They sell beautiful imported dishes and platters from Italy. The staff is very friendly and a lot of locals come here. I highly recommend this store

When you walk in, they have various goods (e.g., olive oil, pasta) on the right wall and the meat and cheese cases on the left. There were several workers behind the counter so I did not have to wait long to place my order. I ordered the sub with lettuce, tomato, onion, oil and vinegar. It's normally a 20 minute drive home but because of the rain, it took nearly 30. When we got home, the sub was not soaked to the point where the bread was falling apart, which shows they add just enough and the bread is sturdy. It was just as good as I remember it. I wish I could find someplace similar closer to home but don't mind the drive back to K&S.
