I happened to wander into this establishment after lunch one day in Bakersfield. With my sweet tooth, I can never pass up an opportunity for a cookie ;) I ended up walking out with a bunch of sweet treats, including some cookies and cupcakes. The oreo cheesecake cupcake was without a doubt, one of the most amazing desserts I have ever eaten. It was off the charts--eyes roll back in head--good. A MUST if you like cheesecake. i rented Tables and chairs from them and had them put me down for Easter and they told me the price to only turn around weeks later and up their prices 3-4x more than what they told me. did the same to my mom and her friend as well but they had their events before mine, but offered to honor the price they were told but wouldn't honor mine. very unprofessional. If you tell your customers a price you go through with it not decide you should get more and not mention and raise it 3/4x more after I've already booked. read more

Tastries did my baby shower cake and it was delicious! They also added some mini cupcakes at no extra charge! My mother in law recently went there to pick up a variety of cupcakes for a celebration and I LOVED the Oreos one. I have dreams about how amazing it was! I also tried the vanilla one with vanilla frosting which was good, not so keen on the all chocolate cupcake though. But I did like the mini cupcake with the snickers. I walked in with questions about ordering a cake and hoping to place an order. It was not busy at all and the girl was standing in front of the cashier the whole time with a blank stare like she was bored. She didn't bother to say "hi" at the very least. So I began to look around trying to find a cake "menu" and pricing. I went up to the cashier and asked her questions about their cakes but she wasn't very helpful at all and as I mentioned she seemed bored and also careless about trying to "sell" a cake. Glad I walked out of there empty handed . There was another older lady around who looked like she worked there didn't bother to greet us either. Every year I do something special for my boyfriend's birthday. Since we live far apart I always send him something special via mail. After hearing all the hype about Tastries, I decided to try give it a try. I called the shop and they were able to take my order. Red flag number one was that some of the cupcakes I wanted to order (which were displayed on their website) were no longer available, but, they decided to make an exception since they had no idea they were even posted on the website in the first place. I went on with my order and was guaranteed a delivery date and a specific time. Later that week when the cupcakes were to be delivered to my boyfriend's work, they arrived almost an hour late and most were toppled over and some were smushed. When he sent me a picture I was devastated. It just seems very unprofessional for a bakery that has "aquired" such a good reputation. I wish I could get my money back. Hi Yelp! My future bride and I (yes, I'm a hotdog that likes tacos. calm down cupcake.) purchased a cake here on May 22nd for pick-up this weekend. It was a long time before this recent media storm began and makes me a legitimate reviewer, so no taking this one down, alright? The experience back in May to purchase the cake was alright. Nothing to write home about and nothing to review. They makes cakes. That should be it, right? We had a 1p pickup for our cake. That's plenty of time for us pick up the cake, drive down to the coast and enjoy our marriage weekend with dessert. When I called at 11a to check up and ensure it would be ready, I gave both my first and last name and my brides first and last name. Please note, we decided that the name change would occur after the wedding, just like most married couples do. When given this information, nothing was able to be pulled up in their records. Giving all the information over the phone again, still nothing appeared. I was then asked for the date of purchase, which was beyond my recollection at the time. See, I was just trying to verify they did their job correctly, not have to do it for them. The next thing that came out of her mouth will be something that sticks with me, given their current media situation regarding who is allowed to receive their cakes. I was asked, "Would it be under GROOM'S NAME BRIDE'S SURNAME?" Think about that for a moment. In aghast about the state of our nuptials treat, I told them I would call back when I was able to locate the receipt. It wasn't shortly after hanging up the phone that I received a callback from them informing me the record has been found under BRIDE'S NAME GROOM'S SURNAME. Again, we did not change our names. My fiancee paid for the cake with her card showing her name. Even beyond that, how was this name combination an afterthought to that of the groom taking on the brides last name?? All of this came to a glowing end when I picked up the cake and confronted the owner about my experience. She, the owner, knowingly handed me, the customer, a cake in a box that was too small, a box that the lid would not shut closed on, and considered that okay. I called when I got home to voice my grievance. I was hung up upon. Cathy, if you're reading this, know you lost a customer today for being a bad businesswoman, not your beliefs. Galatians 5:14: "For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: "You shall love your neighbor as yourself."" I love you, Cathy, but your business sucks. read more

This place has some serious presence in town, so after hearing so much about it, and reading all of the great reviews, I decided to try it out. I'll give a quick rundown of why I believe 3 stars is totally fair here. Pros: Some of the desserts are actually pretty good, but I have found the few times I gave this place a try, I wasn't blown away. They do have really cute stuff in the gift shop, and it's definitely convenient if you're already there for some sort of special occasion. Cons: Incredibly overpriced- especially in regards to portion size and overall taste! Customer service is seriously hit or miss, and 2 out of the 3 times I have gone, I was really disappointed. They have really limited amounts of everything. Forget going after lunch, there's usually very few things left that are actually worthwhile. Overall, I would say there's too much hype surrounding the place. I don't think I'll be going back there again, as there are plenty of other good options in town! read more

I hate to do this but I think it's important to. I had tastries for my bridal shower and loved it, so I went there to get dessert for my wedding. We ordered a chocolate cake with chocolate frosting, vanilla, chocolate, and pumpkin flavored donuts, and we rented a display of trays. The consultation was amazing. She suggested we do tiered displays and I said I would prefer to have everything different style plates or trays. She said they had those and wrote it on our order. We walked away so happy and paid in full the same day. On my wedding day they came to deliver the desserts and my cake had white frosting, there were only vanilla donuts, and the display was tHe tiered displayed she suggested and I said no to. My wedding coordinator went to talk to them and they were able to go get the cake refrosted in the correct frosting and bring it back in time. That was the only mistake that was corrected. We had to serve over half the donuts on plastic plates. Then when they delivered the cake for the second time they bumped the icing. Well when push comes to shove the cake, wrong display, and wrong donuts don't matter too the whole scheme of things. However it doesn't end there. They contacted me not long after my wedding saying I owe money still? How i dont know considering it was all pAid in full the day of the consultation. If anything I should have gotten a refund for all the mistakes they made. This isn't my first problem with them but this was a big day and a lot of money. read more

If you advertise you have gluten free then you should have gluten free especially on weekends (like you have had in past). Delicious deserts!!! My fiance and I sampled there deserts before choosing our cake and cupcake flavors. It was glorious!! Yummmm..... all the way! We did have one down fall.... When we placed our order and decided to have cupcakes for our wedding. We let them know that we wanted to have grey cupcake paper and they said that was not a problem. While the day before the wedding they called me and told me that they could not do that because they only carry white liner cupcake paper and that I could not purchase grey cupcake paper because there cupcakes are not the standard size of cupcakes so, no cupcake paper at any store would fit the cupcake :( This was very stressful to hear the day before your wedding! Luckily, the white liner cupcake paper they had looked just as beautiful. Even though that was not what we had agreed on when we ordered our cupcakes. read more

Flavor wasn't that great and to be brutally honest, a cake mix from the box tastes much better. And he even said he payed quite a lot for the cake which wasn't even tiered.
