This has become one of my favorite restaurants in the "outside Boston" area. Fantastic dumplings of all sorts, excellent service.. I really have no complaints. My girl and I were really craving some dim sum. There was nothing in my area but we found this cute place in Lowell. It was clean and decorated well with plenty of seating and good lighting. There was street parking and we found a spot right in front. We shared some chicken skewers to start and they were yummy & decently portioned. They gave us soy sauce with ginger and it was a great dip for the chicken. She got a green tea and I got a peach oolong. They were both bottled but very tasty. We each ate an order of pork soup dumplings and they were so good! Each one had a good size piece of seasoned pork and lots of broth inside, and the dough was well made and cooked perfect. We ate them all! I was still craving something crunchy and the server suggested the sesame balls so we gave them a try, and they were another great choice! Yummy little fried balls that were crunchy on the outside and soft and chewy with red bean paste on the inside. Everything was reasonably priced and the service was excellent. Can't say enough about Tasty Dumpling. People used to HUGE American/Chinese food menus may be surprised by the extent of this menu; but what they do well they do VERY well. WOWZA this was an amazing find. Fish dumplings: Holy moly their potstickers are good. They serve it with the crust connecting the dumplings and I love it. These dumplings really are legit. Filling and wrappers are both on point. XLB: The xiao long bao are also PLEASANTLY surprising. The wrappers are just the right thickness. Not too thick, but not so thin that they break when you try to pick them up. Also, full of hot soup. Not the least bit dry. Filling was great. I might have just found my favorite XLBs in Massachusetts. Chive Pockets: It's hard to find these! Really nice to be able to order them here. They were delicious and come out PIPING hot. This place is freakin' amazing. Not only do they serve their own niche with a lot of menu items you can't find elsewhere, but they do it WELL. Their XLB were the most impressive to me. One of the only places in the area I've been able to find soup dumplings that are tasty - yummy broth inside and dumplings had a thin skin. The name says it all folks; these dumplings are TASTY. After looking around the area to see what can satisfy our lunch hunger, we stumbled on this spot located in the corner. We were very impressed with the selection and options of different dumplings, noodles, and rice. It was exactly what we were craving. We observed next to us something that looked good and it was the spicy mini pot. The spicy mini pot was delicious, especially with fish. My partner and I had eyes wide open at the flavors soaked in by the fish fillets. We also loved everything that came with it and especially the clear sweet potato noodles. It is quite spicy though! We handled the medium spicy well, but wondered what the mild tasted like. Soup dumplings were a must to try. We got the crab and pork ones. My partner commented he loved how there was so much soup in these dumplings. I realized there was too much onion in there for me to eat them (I'm allergic to chunks of onion). From what i could try (after picking out onions from whatever remained), the soup was flavorful and I could see why my partner liked it so much. Guess that worked out for my partner, who was stuffed after having almost the whole basket. If we weren't stuffing our faces already, let me tell you about the giant dumplings on their appetizer menu. Although it may look like you're paying a lot for dumplings, when they come out you see why. We loved the crunchiness of the cabbage and pork potstickers. They were also GIANT. My partner gave up on chopsticks and at them with his hands. I thought these actually went very well with the vinegar ginger sauce that comes with the soup dumplings. Again it worked out my partner got most of the soup dumplings and I devoured most of the cabbage and pork pot stickers. Life is Short. F....it up! Family, Flavor,Friends We started out with the scallion pancakes which light and perfectly fried. Next was the mini beef skewers. Then came the handmade dumplings. We got the special which was call treasurer dumplings, this was a good sampling of each flavor all very good. Next was the braised beef noodle soup. Very flavorful unique soup and beef and very tender melts in the mouth beef. We got the soup dumplings made to order. This place make the the dumplings dough the correct way- meaning even when it cools down they don't break. The soup in the dumplings had a clean flavor. The next item was the braised pork belly and egg rice bowl. So simple, so basic, so good, with the first bite it transports you back to your childhood - real authentic homemade dinner. read more

The well deserved five stars are going to ONLY be for the dumplings here along with a few of the appetizers. My caveat is that I'm NOT reviewing some of the other dishes, even though we have tried them and they are rather Americanized. You're here for "tasty dumplings" and it's what they do best, the rest should just be avoided altogether because it's nothing but filler. The ambiance is a mix of low lights, toy cars and a service window to the kitchen with a rather large patio outside for the warmer months to enjoy your jewel filled pouches. Service is extremely friendly although could be a bit more frequent. The night we were there recently, it was fairly busy and they only checked in like twice throughout the experience. But ba gawd, them dumplin's! I love the presentation where they are effectively flipped upside down from a fry pan with the dripped bits still crispy and attached to each individual morsel. I can't even narrow down an absolute favorite at this point. Given the complexity of savory and salty with the pork & shrimp, I think they take a small lead here. But even just the mixed vegetables have an insane amount of flavor in them. Our favorite appetizer is the vegetable spring rolls. The dipping sauce provided has a little kick to it, just don't go feeding it to the kids or you'll get a strange reaction. I also thoroughly enjoyed the vegetable heavy egg drop soup, filled with corn and peas within and not as eggy/oily as some places can be. For dessert, the six, cute & tiny sesame balls they serve up are a decadent way to end your stay. Go here for the dumplings, stay for the interesting decor and leave a jolly human, knowing you got some of the best there is outside of Boston. Lowell should be extremely proud of this place and their care with authenticity on the dumpling side. Don't be suckered in by ordering General Tso's or the fairly bland noodle dishes unless you have picky eaters with you, it's dumplings front and center, ALL DAY EVERY DAY! read more

They have a special order that has each dumpling type, but we ordered the pork cabbage since we missed the special on the board. We also ordered pork xiao long bao since pork and crab wasn't ready yet. I also love the mini mala hot pot - great flavor! Contains vermicelli noodles, rice cakes, meat, bok choy, and tofu. The beef skewers were pieces of beef on toothpicks and had good mala seasoning since we opted for spicy. The pork belly rice really surprised me - super tender pork belly, egg, and rice is soaked through with rice. There is amazing soup dumplings and dumplings outside of Chinatown? No way! North of Boston and in Lowell! Insert mind blown emoji here! Tasty Dumplings is located on 351 Market Street in Lowell, MA. My family went on a Sunday and there were plenty of street parking. The restaurant was almost completely packed for lunch. We were seated quickly. What turned out to be a random pit stop before I head to New Hampshire turned out to be one of the best soup dumplings and dumplings experience for me. What's most shocking is that I was in Lowell and not Chinatown, Boston. Never would I have thought such a restaurant existed in Lowell. Once again, the power of Yelp and my fellow Yelpers. Thank you, and thank you again! This small restaurant is an absolute hidden gem. It's a solid five star for me. We had to order dumplings. We tried the crab and pork soup dumplings and it was filled with piping hot and delicious broth. The dumpling skin was thin as it should be. Next is the shrimp pork and chive dumplings. We ordered them panfried and they were unexpectedly huge! For these dumplings, the skins was thicker and as should be. The filling was delicious and hearty. We also ordered the braised pork belly and egg over rice. Another delicious dish with wonderful flavors. We also tried the beef shank and tendon noodle soup. The broth was flavorful and the beef shank and tendon was cooked just right. Usually when I ordered this much, there is usually a hit or miss dish but everything we tried was so good! The spicy tiny beef appetizer was soooo spicy. I can usually tolerate really spicy food but this was beyond that. It was so spicy that my lips was in pain. It's the kind of spicy that not only will you regret but it may actually have you shake in pain. I am not exaggerating. They weren't kidding when they said spicy. It was so spicy that it hurt! Next time, I am going to order it non-spicy. I am pretty sure if you looked at my pictures, it was 100% chili powder that they covered the skewers in. Highly recommend if you are ever in the area. The customer service was great. The food came out at a steady pace. The restaurant atmosphere was busy. It's definitely a local favorite judging by the customers dining there the day I went. You have teens hanging out, families, couples and more. Definitely going to come back and try more of their dishes but the ones I have gotten to try so far exceeded my expectations tremendously. Get dumplings. Everything else may be good, but the goal is dumplings. One person with an big appetite can eat two servings. Amateurs stick with one order. If you prefer ask for some chili oil on the side. Always a good move. Now the dumplings that are pan fried have these "wings" or lace or whatever. Not everyone can make dumplings like this. Its the sign of a true dumpling professional. The place is small and not fancy at all. The male restroom seat won't stay up so its standing ops only. Staff speaks English and some form of Chinese. I've wanted to trek out here to Lowell for Tasty Dumplings ever since been looking for some really tasty authentic Xiao Long Bao soup dumplings and haven't had much success in the Boston area. Tasty Dumplings is a place that is pretty close to one of the top soup dumplings places I've been to. But honestly I think their pan fried dumplings is an even better option. I've also tried out their Mala Spicy hotpot, it's definitely on the spicy side also in the end all the hot peppers pooling on the bottom of the bowl did make it really hard to finish but I did try my best haha. Its worth a try if you're a fan of spicy foods. But definitely try out their pan fried dumplings we've had the chicken dumplings and I was very surprised the filling is very generous definitely worth the price. I look forward to try out their pork or beef dumplings next time. Parking was pretty easy since it was pretty quiet when we arrived and street parking was easy to find. I wasn't sure if they have their own parking lot as the space in front of the store not sure if just used for outdoor seating during warmer months. Overall its a great little establishment for some authentic dumplings and I wouldn't mind making the trip out here more often just for this restaurant. read more

Let's get the bad out of the way: the place was a mess. It might just be they need more staff, but nearly all the outside tables were cluttered with dirty dishes and food. It was so bad that it had attracted flies and bees. As my wife is VERY allergic to bees, we were forced to sit inside. It's just a horrible first impression upon arrival. Once we got past that we absolutely adore the place. The food is tasty, spicy and authentic. We ate until we burst. The neighborhood is ghetto. Homeless, hypo needles on the street, police sirens. I saw 3 officers on foot in 1 city block. LOWELL. The restaurant was small. The tiny skewers of beef were a throw away. The pineapple fried rice was ok. The dumplings, both veggie and beef & scallion were very good. They are big, thick, doughy dumplings. They put the boiled dumplings and some dumpling water in the frying pan and they come out with a crust on the bottom. Very unique, and the best part!
