Best thing about this place is the diverse selection of stuff they put in your pot. Even though it may not be very much in quantity (the pots themselves are actually pretty shallow but they pile it up to make it look like a lot), there are actually a lot of different tasty things including the pork blood cake in the Lamp Pot which is my go-to, but this place definitely doesn't beat a home-made hot pot with family. I would say that their hot pot is more of a sampler of many different things, and they can either be really generous with, or skimp out on the meat. Service is okay, the last time I went there were a couple rude male servers. I usually get noodles on the side but others prefer rice. Lamb and Beef Hot Pots are pretty good and it's a dollar cheaper for lunch. Lunch is also good because you get the free iced sweet tea with it but not during dinner. I've also had the Kim Chi and Curry hot pots and I didn't like them as much, so would definitely recommend Lamb as #1 or Beef if you don't like the Lamb. Tip: you can turn off the heat if you feel like your soup is boiling away, but you can also ask them to add more soup to your bowl. Medium Spicy level was pretty spicy for me to be honest, so I usually go mild or not at all. I often order the kimchi dumpling, Japanese miso, or seafood hot soup, and there is a huge amount/variety of food with each hot pot. The hot pot comes with vermicelli or rice. Bowls come in a wide variety and come in a cool looking pot that's steaming the whole time you eat it. My go-to's are the lamb and beef bowls with a side of rice to mix my broth with. Medium spicy is just right for me but the higher you go I'm sure you'll get just the kick. Their spices on the side are also a great addition for your meat dipping purposes. The bowls come with a bunch of different ingredients so be open to trying something new! The Kimchi Dumpling Hot Pot is also good and it comes with potstickers, beef, and even an egg. Nice place to get that hot pot fix. It's a small shop in downtown berkeley so there's usually a line out the door. Since it's in downtown there's hardly any parking there as well. I stick with the beef hot pot mild with rice. I love how they give you tons of food. I usually find myself having leftovers. The beef is tasty, but I find that the corn is hard to eat. The broth is pretty flavorful and is better than some other places, but also not the best. I do think that it's better than Peak Point but not as good as Boiling Point. However, I've had issues adjusting my temperature since i've gotten pots that are hard to adjust the flame on, but servers are really quick to help you. Again, one of those moments where my husband really ought to have his own Yelp account, as we don't always have the same opinions on food... I give Tasty Pot an overall 4-stars, whereas he would probably lean towards a 5-star rating. I'm a little biased, because my first experience having my own individual hotpot bowl was at Boiling Point in Fremont and I L-O-V-E-D it!! Tasty Pot is actually really, really good; and if I hadn't already had a bias, I'd probably lean closer to a 4.5 if I could. They offer a variety of basic and more complex soup broths with toppings. Their more "deluxe" style options like the Japanese Miso with seafood obviously cost a few dollars more. At lunch time, this price includes a single serving of sweetened tea. I went with #1 "Beef Hot Soup" which costs $11.99 and my husband went for #4 "Curry Flavor Hot Soup"; same price. Next time I am thinking of trying either #7 "Cheesy Milk Hot Soup" or #12 "Japanese Miso Hot Soup" which is priced at $14.99. Broths tasted excellent, and the servers come around and offer to refill the liquid if too much has evaporated. Ingredients are tasty too. Honestly, the only reason I can't give it a full 5 stars is because I thought the tables were a little cramped where we were sitting. The tables are spread out across two floors, and it's a little busy to the servers are often dashing about as well. We were sitting practically next to the folks next to us, with maybe only an inch or two of space between our two tables. (Also, I think the broth tasted better at Boiling Point; but my husband loved his broth, and so did I... so I think it's just a matter of trying other options.) A little more space would make it more airier, so I wouldn't have to worry so much about the steam entering into my pores. :) Location is way closer to us than Fremont, so we'll probably be back! read more

This is one of the best hot pot restaurants I have been to in the Bay Area. I have lived in Hong Kong, Taipei, Shanghai, Chengdu and I have had some of the most delicious authentic hotpots out there. And tasty pot ranks high up there for me. Tasty pot has its unique attraction to me with its high quality ingredients, its variety of hotpot styles to choose from, and it's value for money. For about $18 I could get a huge meal with a good mix of protein, veggies and carbs, not to mention the very tasty soup base. One of the best features is that I don't have to do the cooking myself (it's all precooked). This means I could consume mouthfuls of the delicious meat, vegetables and noodles without needing to wait for it to cook and it was ultimately very satisfying. I also get their boba tea every time I visit. They might not be as refined as the tea specialists like boba guys, but still really high quality and great to have with the spicy hotpots. Tasty pot is now certainly the first place I think of when I want to have hotpot. I went there 3 times in the past 5 months, and I will definitely keep going. read more

This is one of my favourite restaurants in Berkeley. The hot pot here is super amazing. The only annoying thing is if you go at popular times or when it is cold and rainy, there is normally a really long wait where you have to write your name on a list and wait outside. However, the food is definitely worth the wait. I always get the mild beef hot pot with rice and it is definitely the best bowl there. It is very classic hot pot, and not like normal hot pot, but they give you individual bowls that have everything normal hot pot would have. I recommend getting rice because the hot pot already comes with vermicelli in it, but if you really love vermicelli, be my guest. The individual pots have a fire under them that sometimes makes the pot boil too much but it is pretty easy to stop the fire yourself of get one of the servers to stop the fire for you, sometimes the fire just fizzles out on its own too. This fire keeps your food nice and hot the entire time you'd like though, which is the whole point of hot pot so that's great! read more

Tasty Pot... its all in the name! I got to hand it to them. I came on a friday night & while it was busy, the wait wasn't too bad. I appreciate the fact that they station someone in the front to inform people how everything works. (You can order your Tasty pot while you wait in line) I ordered the Japanese Miso Seafood pot ($16) and also ordered beef slices on the side ($4). The seafood medley was well worth it, it came with some Crab legs, fish balls, tempura, tofu, mussels, pork & some other goodies. The flavor of the broth is good, I asked for it mild which gave it a nice kick. Since the pot is still cooking in front of you when they serve it, I was surprised that the food didn't overcook. The pork was flavorful, yet tender. While I did enjoy the crab, since the legs were so small, I didn't attempt to eat them. While the extra order or beef slices weren't necessary, I would recommend it. The portions for the additional $4 doubles your protein. The service was great from start to finish. The service was quick and the servers checked in with us frequently. We weren't aware that you can refill the broth until they offered it to us. If you take your leftover home you can also take some additional broth home as well. I love Tasty Pot, great meal for a fair price, the service was exceptional. Parking can be difficult to find if your going for dinner, but their is a small parking garage next door. The only thing I didn't enjoy was the macaron ice cream sandwich ($4) The brand that serves them is called "Brick" and that's a great description of it because the ice cream was hard as a rock. The portions are very generous. However, I do want to note that if you get a hot pot above the mild spiciness level, it may get a little too salty. I have had generally decent experiences of the service here, as they would come up and ask for more water or soup themselves. This was the first time I've tried the concept of Tasty Pot and it was great! There are an overwhelming amount of choices so look carefully before ordering! I got the stinking tofu hot soup and it was pretty good. The only downfall was that there was SO MUCH CABBAGE. More than anything else in the soup. (Reference bottom below) We arrived at 8:45 and right off the bat they said "our kitchen closes at 9 and the restaurant closes at 9:30" and that was kinda off putting because I know how the industry is and you shouldn't tell customers that. But anyways, we were seated right away. They also set down our check 2 mins after we got our checks. Again, very odd but they told us we have until 9:30 so we took our time. I would totally come back again but I'd try a different soup type and come during lunch or an earlier dinner time. The customer service was ok and the space is small. So be prepared for all that. Mehhh... We didn't feel like driving far, but we wanted some hot soup, so we figured we could give this place a try. There was sooooo many people waiting outside. It's a small space, so there isnt that many tables. It was nice that we were able to put in our order before being seated. I felt like that helped speed up the process because by the time we were seated, we only had to wait about 5 minutes before our pots came. Service was pretty good. The servers were nice. They were quick to get us anything we needed, such as extra sides. I ordered the beef hot soup with vermicelli. I also added quail eggs. I felt like it was rather small. Nothing in the soup stood out to me except my side order of quail eggs, but that's quail eggs, and they are always good. The soup lacked hearty flavor, and that's what I like. The beef was also a thick and little tough. I like my meat thinly sliced and tender. Thank goodness for the sauces. That helped make everything taste a little better. Trust me, I really wanted to love it because it's much closer than boiling point, and I'm starting to get tired of driving all the way to Fremont once a week to satisfy my cravings. Family reunion and we decided to come here to eat. Surprisingly we came here on a good day and a good time because we didn't have to wait which is usually what we expected. There was 5 of us and we got seated at a table that was meant for 4 people so the chair they pulled out was a foldable chair that wasn't very comfortable and when our hot pot came out. . . our table space got so much smaller. All of us decided to order the curry hot pot, beef hot pot, seafood hot pot and the stinky tofu hot pot. The beef hot pot was okay where it took awhile for the beef to cook since the soup wasn't all the way to the top and so I had to "dunk" the beef to make sure it was fully cooked before eating it. My cousin said that the curry hot pot was okay but it seemed like the things were frozen and not very fresh. As for the seafood hot pot, it tasted good, but not much flavor which made my cousin sad. My boyfriend had the stinky tofu hot pot and he said that it tasted okay. As for the table space mentioned earlier, since the table was meant for 4 people and there were 5 of us, sometimes we would accidentally bump into each other with our arms because the space was smaller. The service here was not very good though to be honest. While eating our hot pot, it seemed like the hot pot was tilted where it was leaking and the soup actually leaked onto my boyfriend's jeans. When we asked for napkins the waiter completely ignored it and we had to wait a couple minutes and ask two more waiters for napkins until we received it. I would also have to mention they forgot about my green tea that I ordered and they unfortunately charged me for it even though I told them I never received it. . . Happy to know that there is a pretty decent taiwanese hot pot place in Berkeley area! I ordered the taiwanese supreme hot pot, and it was a fairly large portion (the bowl does say larger - $15 for lunch without tax). It had a good amount of food inside, and medium spicy (which is the lowest level for that) was pretty spicy actually. You get an option of vermicelli or rice - I chose vermicelli. They don't give you much vermicelli though, it was like a small bow that basically dissolves in your soup so if you want more, I would opt for the rice. I also like that the green tea is not too sweetened as many other places have it, it was perfect combination for the hot pot. I came here on a Sunday around noon and I'd say get there early to avoid a line! The great thing was, you get to preorder, and by the time you are seated.. the hotpot comes out for you! read more

Different than the purported standard of hotpot (communal cooking of selected trays of uncooked goods) in that Tasty Pot consists of individual boiling bowls of prepared (assembled and cooked) meals, but tasty nonetheless. I got the lamb bowl (which I rather enjoyed) and I'd like to muster up the courage to try the cheesy bowl should the opportunity and craving coincide. It's admittedly pricey--I believe base cost is $16.99 plus tax and tip--and their rewards program of a free bowl for every 10 bowls purchased is utterly useless (they only provide that option on the customer copy of the receipt and do not provide a pen with which to provide a number). All in all, it's a far cry from the ideal hotpot experience in form and costliness but it makes some small amends through accessibility and overall quality. I have every intention of returning again in the future, though I cannot imagine every frequenting it on account of its relatively low cost-effectiveness. read more
