    Curry chicken bowl
    Ka Yan C.

We were at UC Berkeley at a event and we decided to pick up food for lunch! This was walkable distance so we wanted try this place out. They ran out of BBQ pork and duck early Saturday already which was disappointing because we ordered right when they opened. I opt for the curry chicken bowl and it was really good! The chicken was tender and not dry. The portion was also really big. Price was right, would definitely recommend!

I am a frequent customer of Take Eat Easy for multiple reasons. The restaurant itself is within a campus building, which makes it convenient for any hungry students passing by on their way to and from class. Staff is always swift and quick with orders, and they speak fluent English, Mandarin Chinese, as well as Cantonese, which is a big plus. Pricing for food at this restaurant is an absolute STEAL. The Milk Tea here are priced at $4.25, and Honey Lemon Tea at $4.50. But if you order in a set (with an accompanying food order), you can add either of those beverages for $1.99, and the portions are *large*. They also have a Saturday deal, where you can get some of their most popular dishes for $3 off their normal price. By far, my favorite orders have been the Sichuan Spicy Chicken Rice and the Sichuan Spicy Beef Tripe Rice. For $13.99 and $14.99 respectively, you get a generous portion of the most juicy and succulent chicken and beef tripe, with a side of cucumbers to balance out the spiciness flavor. But worry not -- they also have dishes like the Singaporean Hainan Chicken Rice for people who don't like spice. Everything aside, Take Eat Easy has just been so consistently good with the way they prepare their food. Not once has their chicken disappointed me! Truly one of my favorite spots in Berkeley, and my biggest recommendation to people looking to get quality food for (decently) cheap.

港丽, busy during the week, is quiet on Saturdays

I heard about this counter from Cal students, who told me that the lunch crowds are so large that it's a good strategy to show up at 11AM. They gave me the name "Gangli (港丽)" for this establishment. Their description made me think of the food court in lower level of the student union, but in fact Take Eat Easy is on the ground level of Eshleman Hall. I noticed recently that 港丽 is open on Saturdays but not very busy then. Even on Cal Day, I was able to order with no wait. On the advice of friends, I got the duck special, which turned out to include a large amount of rice, two pieces of broccoli and a decent amount of bone-in duck. The duck was pretty greasy, but there was enough rice that I didn't feel grossed out by the grease. The dish included a small thimble of sauce; there are nearby packets of soy sauce in case of further need. The food was OK, but well below the standards of Great China, to cite one nearby place. Although Take Eat Easy was described to me as "Hong Kong-style," the closest match to my recent experience in Hong Kong was my meal in a student restaurant at the HK University of Science and Technology. Take Eat Easy is a great choice if you are nostalgic for authentic Chinese food but do not expect to return to China any time soon. This counter reminded me of my visit to an Ashley American Grill & Salad in Seoul: Ashley hits the spot if you miss the States and want to chow down on pizza, burritos and spaghetti. Take Eat Easy represents a good value -- it's priced for a student clientele and portioned out for students' appetites.

Convenient spot in Sather Gate to grab a small snack or quick meal. Ordering is easy via Snackpass. Prices are reasonable for what you get. I frequently swing by when I'm craving a small snack but not the full meal; you can pick up smaller portions of classic dim sum items like siu mai here. The food is seasoned well, and tastes authentic and flavorful.

A hole in the wall near the Berkeley campus. The guy there is super friendly. There's no indoor seating and everything is to go. Their hk milk tea is a must get and the portion is huge! It's also a fraction of the price of a boba drink. Not a huge fan of their siu mai because it didn't taste like traditional ones. Will definitely come back to try their rice combo.

The guy running the store is really sweet, and you get a huge portion of food for a very reasonable price! He sells out of the bbq pork and roast duck super quickly, though. I came around 30 minutes after closing and it was already gone. Instead, I got the Singapore chicken rice which came with the chili and soy sauces, as well as some ginger. The chicken was cooked perfectly and I really liked the sauces that came with it! He also gives you a free drink with your meal. There are also a lot of different snacks you can buy, which I'll have to come back and try another time. Definitely worth a visit to support a local business!

Great Food, Great Service, and Low Prices. It is a good place to make new friends. When you are first there you might think like I did, that you have found your favorite place to hang out on campus.

2022/12/02 17:00 Chinese rice bowls and snacks - the food I received was barely warm, although I did go right when they were closing Roast Duck & Cha Siu Rice Bowl ($13.99): rice, roast duck, pork cha shao, orange, and a packet of soy sauce - generous portion - rice was mediocre - roast duck was pretty fatty; would've been good if it was hot - cha shao was pretty tough but tasted good, with the right amount of sweetness

Very friendly service, and yummy food! Fast to order and pick up every time. Hong Kong milk tea with creamy condensed milk made fresh. Location across the street from campus, close by. Perfect to grab a quick lunch or drink when I have little time since service is so fast. They have good lunch deals. I highly recommend this place, wonderful service, food and drinks!

So delicious! The pork was very flavorful and the duck was tender. The man working at the counter was kind and helpful. Would definitely return in the future! Cannot recommend enough

    Best chai I've had
    Maryam K.

Genuinely the best tea I've had in my life. I'm Pakistani and grew up drinking really rich chai and I've never been able to find a drink that felt "right" until today. I was having a rough day and this made it so much better, thank you ^^

5 stars through and through! I dropped by around 2:30pm on Friday before closing time and the Singaporean chicken rice bowl was one of the few remaining items available. The shop owner packed up the bowl nice and full, told me he threw in a free extra egg, and asked me what beverage I wanted (included free with the bowl!). I said I'd skip the drink for today since I had plans to get boba later in the day but he insisted I have something as substitute. I left with a free banana and a smile Plus: This whole encounter took less than 5 minutes so if you've got a short lunch break, you won't have to worry about waiting! Food: This bowl was two meals worth of food for me!! The chicken was very soft and tender and the two sauces were the perfect balance - one is tangy and spicy while the other one is your traditional ginger scallion sauce. I'm definitely coming back here to try the other bowls and have already told multiple people to come support this shop because this is good food made by good people!! Come check this place out

My dad got the sizzling beef which came with an ice tea and I got the Hainan chicken plate which came out super fast. The food was decent but the service was awful. Because we don't speak Cantonese and speak Mandarin instead? And I don't mean efficient, no nonsense service, I mean downright rude. I asked for to go boxes and she literally came over and I had to get out of my bench seat in order to reach the boxes and bag .... she couldn't be bothered to actually hand them to me. When my dad asked for some refill on his ice tea, she literally yelled at him and said 'YOU GOT THIS FOR FREE." We ordered a Hainan full chicken to go and I waited 20 minutes before going to the counter to ask for my chicken. If you're known for your chicken, why did it take so long to get my order ... and twice as long as what you told me?
