I come to this place quite often but never left a review, so I decided to write one this time. The food is decent, but personally I prefer the Concord location -- somehow the food there tastes a bit better to me. My favorite is the Lamb Hot Soup, and today my husband ordered the Curry Flavor Hot Soup -- he said it was delicious. For the service, I have to say the lunch service wasn't great this time. We had to grab most things ourselves. I could've asked the staff, but since our table was behind the counter and the staff didn't seem very friendly or smiley, I didn't really feel like calling them. When we came during dinner time before, the service was much better. I like that this place has a reward program, and the restaurant itself is pretty clean -- including the restroom. Went here for a post-pickleball dinner and was pleasantly surprised! We got seated right away, which was a nice start. I ordered the #1 Beef Hot Spot with medium spice, and it was super good, flavorful and rich. The medium spice had more of a kick than I expected but was still really enjoyable. I do wish they had a few more sauce options, but overall, it hit the spot. I will say the portions are bigger than other individual hotpot spots I've been to which was a nice plus. The ambiance was a bit dim but cozy and welcoming. The staff were attentive and friendly, refilling our broth and water without us even having to ask. Side note: their playlist was actually fire. Yesterday evening was my first time at this Tasty Pot location in Berkeley. I've been to Tasty Pot all around the Bay and the service is on par with any other location. Ordering is done via a QR code on the table, but you have to pay your bill by calling over a staff member. I ordered the curry beef hotpot, while my wife ordered the lamb hotpot. Despite the restaurant being pretty full, our orders arrived quickly. Throughout our meal, a waiter stopped by multiple times to check if we wanted more broth added to our hotpot, or more water. The hotpot itself is large enough that even the most hungry diners will be satisfied, especially with the extra large serving of rice that comes with the hotpots (you can optionally choose vermicelli noodles instead). There's a wonderful variety of ingredients in each of the hotpots, with a good balance between seafood, meat, and vegetables. If there's a specific ingredient you're craving and it's not listed as being included in the hotpot, you also have the option to add it on during the ordering process for a pretty minimal fee. The reason why my review is not higher is because the meat quality really fell short. For example, the lamb in the hotpot was completely shredded and didn't have an enjoyable texture, almost like it had been carelessly and forcibly scraped off from a un-defrosted slab of meat out of the freezer. Asides from the meat, I really enjoyed the strong curry flavor in my hotpot and appreciate that you can choose your spice level in the app when ordering. I went with medium and it was the perfect level for me -- enough to get me sweating, but not not spicy enough to make the meal not enjoyable. Tasty Pot is by far one of my favorite hot pot chains, and there's just something about the broth that I cannot recreate at home or any AYCE spot just can't compare. I usually get the #1 beef because I'm basic, but it always hits the spot. If I could give this place a 4.5, I would. The reason why I would want to say 4.5 and not 5 is because every time I come it's always a hit or miss with service. I know service matters a lot for some, but when I come here I like to be happily left alone and enjoy my soup. The food usually comes out quickly, but sometimes it doesn't. It's not consistent, but I never have an issue with service here. I just get my food, ask for a soup refill sometimes, and go! I know I've had friends who are not happy with the cabbage to protein portion, but I like my vegetables so I'm pretty satisfied, but that is something to be aware of. Anyways, I love Tasty Pot and this is one of the nicer chains that give bigger portions! I will be coming back (as I have been). I added ramen and egg. The dish comes with vermicelli noodles, so I thought when I ordered ramen it would sub out the other noodle. Unfortunately, there were vermicelli noodles already in my bowl. Good experience and the first time we've ever had hot pot come with everything already in it. The beef hot soup had really great flavors with so many things in the soup. The Sichuan hot soup was SUPER spicy; too spicy for me, but great if you like very, very, very spicy foods. I would have preferred to quick dip and cook the beef because it got overcooked from sitting in the soup for too long. Other items in the soup were great like the fish balls, meat balls, imitation crab meat, veggies, and vermicelli noodles. TIPS: 1. If you want additional toppings and your total exceeds $20, just get another hot pot. 2. This is the only hot pot place so far in Berkeley. The portions here are pretty bad for add-ons. The meatballs were around $3 and you get five. The only aspects are a bit worth it was the fish cakes and the imitation crab. One pot itself was pretty small and overall not very filling for two people, get two if you're dining with someone else. Seating is incredibly cramped, especially with backpacks and all. In addition, the bathroom was hard to get to, but the layout of the restaurant was interesting in that there were two stories. The food itself was not bad. The balls were good and the pot had a lot of flavors. It overall came out to be ~$50 after the pot and around six add-ons. I still prefer Boiling Point, but the closest is in Fremont. Tasty pot has always been a go to for me. I've been to the one in Elk Grove, San Jose, and now Berkeley. This time I decided to try the mild spice level and it had a nice kick to it , but it wasn't too spicy. The waiter was attentive and offered me more broth. The place is a little small but it wasn't busy for a Thursday night. We went around 8:00pm. The kitchen closes at 9:00pm but the restaurant stays open until 9:30pm.
