The interior is really comfortable with many seats and the staff are always super friendly despite dealing with hunger students all the time. Pretty tasty pot! It's our first time trying pots in Berkeley and we will probably go there again. Location & Atmosphere The restaurant is located only one block from the campus and It is very convenient for college students to go on walking. When we first stepped into​ the restaurant, we are impressed by the decoration of the restaurant. It is a mixed style of Eastern features and Western features in decorations but it looks harmonious in general. The warm lights in the ​ room make​ the food seem​ more​ delicious and really inspire​ our appetite. Menu There are over ten options in the Menu and you can always find your preference of pots ​.There are also some choices of Chinese featured milk tea and soup. It is worth mentioning that all the pots there are designed after the famous architecture China Pavilion exhibited in EXPO 2010. It is really attractive and interesting to eating with a spectacular pavilion featured pot. We ordered the "Japanese Miso Hot Soup" and "Sichuan Flavor Hot Soup" . I wish I could have put 5 stars, which I definitely would if I were able to eat my food. The actual restaurant is great and is an obvious student favorite. I loved that there were so many options and that you could choose your spice level - but this is where the issue came in for me. Okay, I love spicy food to a degree, but unfortunately, have been 'burned' in the past with ordering overly spicy food. So now my new tactic is to order medium spicy and add the extra heat myself. My friend and I ordered the same pot option, except he ordered extra spicy and I ordered medium. When I took my first bite I realized that this was definitely not a medium spice level. I just assumed we had received the wrong bowls.. the only thing was that his bowl was just as spicy as mine. With sweaty tears running down my face and a numb tongue, I told the waitress that my food was incredibly spicy and that I could not eat any of it. Instead of apologizing for the obvious mishap and offering a new pot, she just laughed and walked on. Sadly to say, I walked out with an empty stomach and $30 poorer. read more

What an ironic name for a restaurant! I'm used to Boiling Point and was a but crestfallen that there wasn't one near me. People had recommended this place so I decided to try it out. I was pleasantly surprised by the ability to change the spice level for the Taiwanese Spicy hot pot. The Boiling Point version cannot be altered and is too spicy for me. I was excited to dive into my hot pot (a terrible image for literal thinkers). But the broth was so flat. It tasted just like chicken broth. I wasn't able to differentiate the flavor between mine and my wife's (who got the kimchi dumpling). The thing about hot pot is that the broth sort of sets the tone for all the ingredients in the pot and if your broth sucks then the entire meal kinda sucks. I wasn't impressed at all. Further more, at least BP offers a reward system and free sweet drinks for lunch. Tasty Pot offers you an initial thing of tea, but then is refilled with water. I couldn't wait until the Elite event and I'm so glad I didn't. You don't want a taste. You want a whole flavorful, spicy bowl to yourself. First, the staff is ridiculously friendly. My server and I bonded over #9. Being from Boston, when I think 'hot pot' I think table-style where everyone dips into one pot. This was unique and I like it better. The medium spicy actually is spicy and the server saved me from a scorched butt by telling me so. You can always add heat with the chili oil on the side. Do NOT sleep on the soybean based red sauce combined with the garlic oil. Every delish morsel needs a little of that love. What's in the bowl, you ask? Goodness! You might say hot pot is pho on steroids. #9 spicy seafood filled with all manner of seafood and other stuff like pork intestine (my fave) and pork blood (I'll skip next time). The broth has a nice unami flavor, and not too salty, which is a concern of mine. Not too much cabbage, either. A very nice, filling bowl. We had dinner at this Berkeley location last night. We had tasty pot in Dublin, Alameda, and San Diego before, I thought they are under the same franchise but quality, service, and pricing are very inconsistent. Back to this Berkeley location, when we first walked in, it was about 45 minutes from their closing time. Downstairs was full except a small table right at the restaurant entrance, upstairs was available with only table occupied. The first guy wanted to seat us at the entrance table, we said can we be seated up there instead, he said no and walked away. A second guy came around and asked us to sit at the entrance table as if he did not hear us. We insisted again not sitting at the entrance table because the door keeps opening and closing and people had to walk behind us to get to the door, and it is cold there when the door opened. The placement of that table was so weird to begin with. Anyway, the second guy did not respond and walked away to talk to the first guy, then they gave us an unhappy face and said go. This whole interaction made us feel not welcomed and they did not care about us at all. I rather they told us they are closing soon and go find another restaurant. You know these days restaurants always take 20% or more tip for granted even without providing service or good service. I felt obligated to tip them, but honestly their service did not deserve it. Back to food and pricing, the pricing showing on Yelp is totally outdated. The actual pricing is 18% higher now. Should the restaurant owner be responsible to update this on Yelp? As far as food quality, you can clearly see and taste a lot of frozen ingredients in the pot and possibly MSG in the broth as I got thirsty after that. The broth is the same broth across all options and they just add curry or spice to make the varieties. The portion is big but the quality doesn't deserve the $19.99 pricing. We had Tasty Pot in San Diego in June this year, the food was more real and prices were lower. For $19.99 and this food quality, there are much better noodle soup options nearby for lower costs. Honestly don't understand the hype. I guess as students most people are very restricted in terms of their options around campus so this becomes the "best" hot pot place. I have been here at least 4 times now and I have to say I only enjoyed my meal once. The last time I came I ordered a mild lamb lamb pot and the bowl they brought out was NOT MILD at all. In fact, it was probably at least high spiciness level. Normally I would just think I'm bad at handling my spaces or something, but my boyfriend (who has a really high spice tolerance) tried it and it was spicy even for him. Outside of this I could only taste the spice and no other flavor. Cabbage covers half the bowl so you won't get much meat either. Overall, just meh. Tasty Pot, hands down, my favorite hot pot, and that's all the locations. I was ecstatic when my girlfriend told me there was one in Berkeley, so we went. We found parking pretty quick, so just drive around the block. Don't be too worried about the area, it's busy all around. The Berkeley location is quite small compared to the SJ spot. They were busy and there was a wait. The host actually took our order outside before we were seated so we wouldn't have to wait too long. We were seated 3 minutes after that, and our food came out in less than 5. That's the type of service I'm talking about. We both got the beef, medium spicy. The portion looks small, but don't be fooled, there's a lot in that small pot. I always prefer vermicelli over rice, and I just let it soak for a bit. Medium isn't too spicy, I might consider going up one level next time. You get a mixture of everything, beef, clams, tofu, immitation crab, fish cake, and sitting at the bottom, cabbage. The soup is very tasty. I can literally eat this on any cold day. For sauce, we usually mix the soy sauce and the orange sauce. It's sweet and tangy. I drip a bit on every bite, and it's amazing. If you're going with a big party, good luck, the tables are quite small, and the whole restaurant is small too. 1-4, you're good. read more

There is a clipboard outside for customers to put themselves on the waitlist, but there is no space to wait inside. Seating can be slightly uncomfortable as the tables are placed very close to each other. The service is great! The waiters and waitresses come around frequently to refill water and add hot water to the soup if needed. If you come for lunch, they serve a really delicious sweet tea! It is always fun to see what music they play at Tasty Pot. Some days it will be K-pop and other days it will be EDM. It really varies from day to day! [ Kimchi Dumpling Hot Soup ] This is my go-to order at Tasty Pot. I usually get my soup mild and I find that spicy enough. There is a good variety of meat (pork, seafood) and kimchi dumplings in the hot pot. Make sure to bury your egg early on so that it cooks well! The soup comes with a bowl of rice or vermicelli. I personally always choose rice because I like having something plain to balance out the soup. My go-to is the #1 beef pot. I love that this place is sort of like hot pot but all the ingredients are already cooked and you can eat it right away. The broth is a lot more flavorful than your typical hot pot too. I can definitely finish one pot to myself but they are big enough to share. They also refill your pots with broth when you get low. I also recommend going for lunch instead of dinner! It's cheaper and comes with tea! Another flavor that is good is the kimchi broth or Thai broth! Service is good. I would say that Tasty Pot is one of the very very very few places that I would choose to bring my friends/family to if they are visiting Berkeley. At least for NorCal, the Tasty Pot in Berkeley is better. I've tried at least two other locations of Tasty Pot (SF and SJ-DeAnza), and I would say that Tasty Pot Berkeley has the best service and taste. Parties of 2 Beware My partner and I visited Tasty Pot during a time where there were multiple tables available, we were initially seated by the door because it was very hot. While seated, another hostess approached us and told that we would need to sit at table meant for two. We followed her way into the restaurant towards the back where tables for two are stuck in the corner next to a cooler. I love hot pot, and Tasty Pot is convenient, centrally-located spot to get my fix. Although you don't get the same experience of sharing a communal pot and cooking the food yourself, the flavors are all there. There can a substantial wait at times, so try to avoid going at peak hours. + Stinky Tofu Hot Soup: The broth is pretty much your typical hot pot broth, a rich umami soup with a bit of spice (if you so desire). Stinky tofu definitely had that characteristic stinky taste and intestine was flavorful though a little tough. I wish the pork blood had not been in rice cake form, since you couldn't really taste it. Other ingredients were pretty standard and soaked up the broth flavor nicely. + Curry Flavor Hot Soup: I enjoyed this broth very much, with a hint of curry on top of the normal broth. The toppings were pretty typical, though I wish there were fewer imitation crab components. They also provide a couple sauces - a soy/sesame one, chili oil, and fermented tofu sauce of some kind. This Tasty Pot location is about 12 minutes away from Downtown Oakland. This is our new TP go-to location after moving to the East Bay. We probably go to TP at least twice a month bc Asians love their hot pots haha. The servers here are nice and attentive and food comes out fast. Free sweetened iced green tea if you come on the weekends for lunch. This place always hooks it up with the meat portion. Super tasty and favorful. I think I like it better than boiling point(they give more meat here imo). I came here right when it opened and there was alot of people already. If I arrived 10 mins later, I probably would have to wait in the rain. This place is small but the interior is nice. Theres free ice tea for lunch. I had the lamb version of the pot and I got it flaming spicy. It was truely spicy. My nose doesn't agree with me in spicy food but to bad I am the one controlling what I eat. I finished it, so it was not too unbearable, if you want to up your spicyness; get flaming spicy. The key to eating spicy food is not to drink anything except the broth of course, it makes everything worse. My pot had a lot of lamb and the dipping sauce on the side compliments everything so mix them all up in your sauce bowl. I like putting it on my rice too, yum. And my companion got a kimchi pot with medium spice. I like my pot and didnt really like his (prob bc its not spicy enough for me); everyone has different taste. But he said he really liked it so if you are a fan of kimchi you will definitely love it. The downside was that the pot kind of overfills and leaks when boiling but that is fine. We were a party of 7 with 5 adults, 1 kid and 1 baby. Wait was about 15-20 mins. Completely expected since they had to accommodate by moving an extra table. They offered to get 4 of us seated first while we wait for the 2nd table to get added on. Once we got the 2nd table added on, we ordered. Between the 5 adults, we decided we can share 2 large and 1 regular. Server took our order. Came back about 5 mins later to explain that because it's a party of 6, there's a minimum order and suggested that we had to order another item. So I decided to cancel 1 large, and order 3 regular with a total of 4 items as requested. She said okay. Came back another 3 minutes later and told me that they are already working on the one that I wanted to cancel so I can't cancel it anymore. So I just ended up ordering 1 extra regular. So in the end, at our table, we had 1 large and 3 regular between 5 adults. And exactly like I had imagined we had leftovers, an entire hot pot. So, I understand that businesses have a minimum requirement and all but please inform your staff if you do / train properly because it was such an embarrassment. And had I known I would have ordered accordingly. Oh and with all the confusion and back and forth with the server, she didn't even set our table with chopsticks or spoons. Back to the hot pot, tonight we tried: Taiwanese supreme, lamb, curry, and Thai. The curry flavor lacked texture and flavor. (Boiling point's curry is bomb!) My favorite tonight was the Thai one, it tasted like the instant MaMa noodles. Though it didn't came with instant noodles, would have been so much better with it! And the Taiwanese one tasted more like Sichuan spices. It's a bit pricey especially for the large sizes but I love how it's big enough to share. I actually really do like Tasty Pot-- the concept, execution, and food is pretty good but y'all gotta be better about service. Im not sure why there's a separate dinner and lunch price-- one is with a drink and one without? are portions bigger or something? It'd be nice to get a little clarity on that. I usually get the seafood pot or thai pot-- both good and flavorful. They use the same soup base for refills which is a bit confusing though. I've been here several times before and it's always been pretty decent, though the last time I went several things (negative ish things) stood out-- We were a party of 5 and after we were seated we were only given 3 sets of utensils until I asked for more sets at least two times, once even after our food arrived. One of our friends only ordered a waffle ice cream instead and the servers just assumed she wanted to sit and watch us eat our meals and didn't ask if she wanted the waffle immediately. After waiting quite awhile we finally asked the server about the waffle and her reply was "oh, you want it NOW?!?" We assumed she was going to get the waffle ready after that--but nope. We keep on waiting and at that point most of us were done with our food. When we asked the server about it again her reply was "OH, yeah we're really busy in the kitchen." The kicker from all this is that we assumed the waffle ice cream would be a fancy homemade thick fluffy waffle with ice cream on top, but the end result was way more disappointing. (Keep in mind, the whole time the server made it seem like it took a lot of time to make this freaking dessert.) What arrived at the table was LITERALLY a blueberry eggo waffle with fake yellowish looking vanilla ice cream sandwiched in between. HOW Y'ALL GONNA SAY THE KITCHEN IS BUSY WHEN YOU LITERALLY HAD TO DUMP A FROZEN EGGO WAFFLE INTO A TOASTER AND SLAP SOME ICE CREAM ON IT?!? BTW- you KNOW its eggo waffles (or maybe even store brand) cause them blueberries were dehydrated little tiny ones. There is a parking garage right next to this location. The line here on the weekends is crazy long since it is a pretty small restaurant. If you don't want to wait, go right when they' just open. Heard a lot of mixed reviews of this place but finally tried it to see what the hype was all about. Luckily, my friends and I got the last table before the line of people came in behind us. If it wasn't for our luck, we would have waited a long time. The servers were great! Excellent service! They were very polite and came back to you constantly to check if you need anymore water or more broth, etc. My friends and I all ordered the spicy seafood pot. We all got mild, but honestly, it was pretty damn spicy. My lips were numb at the end, but that doesn't take away from the flavorful broth. They will take your order while you're still waiting so it'll come right out when you're seated. Some of my other favorites include the beef hot soup and the lamb hot soup. The menu is pretty simple - there are 12 different pots to choose from and you can choose the spice level & either a bowl of rice or vermicelli noodles. The waiters are very attentive and will even refill your broth if you like. This place has many varieties of hotpot with different types of protein and spicy levels to choose from. I have been here many times and have tried many flavors. My favorite hotpot is the beef hotpot because I liked the sauce they put in the soup. For all the hotpot I have tried, they usually put a lot of meat. And one thing I liked here is that they cooked all the ingredients in the hotpot, so it's almost ready to be eaten once served. My sister told me that this was one of the better hotpot places in the area, so when I went up to visit her we stopped here for lunch. Parking was hard to find, we parked in the the small lots next to the main street. It is paid parking and around $3.00 per hour. I came around noon and the wait was very quick for a table for 3. If you come in for lunch, they offer free tea. I ordered the kimchi pot and my sister ordered the veggie pot. My pot had a lot of things and I was surprised there was also an egg in there! In many of the places I go to that is usually an extra charge so I really liked that. My sister's pot was essentially all vegetables (vegetarian) but it wasn't as full as my pot was. She was slightly disappointed and wished that there was more vegetables in the pot to make up for what should be the meat in the pot. Taste wise, the mild spice still had a kick to it, which I enjoyed. The broth was clear and it seemed like a universal broth except they throw in some kimchi in it. Broth was not too heavy but I wish it had more of a kimchi taste to it rather than throwing in some kimchi and relying that for the flavor. I enjoyed the variety of veggies and fishballs in the pot in addition to the beef in the pot. Service was a little slow and I had to flag down people for napkins and or water. So what's funny about the water is they just poured water into my iced tea cup essentially diluting it. I thought that was a little weird so I didn't ask for water until i finished the tea in my cup. Been here many times and even to other locations, I must say that what I like most is that Tasty Pot locations are consistent in food. They have a good selection of different flavors to please most and the amount of food you get is good. Many times it takes a long time for us to get our food, sometimes it has taken quite a long time! But overall the service is usually good and they are good at coming by to refill waters. read more
