I've always seen this place with a big line but when I finally went, it wasn't too busy. I got seated quick since it was just a friend and me. I ordered the Thai flavor hot pot and asked for it to be very spicy. It wasn't spicy, I could tell what find of broth it was and it was sour which I didn't mind but there was no spice to balance it out. Especially since I asked for very spicy I was expecting a spice to hit me. The music was kinda loud and the waitress who took our order couldn't hear me. I couldn't hear her either when she was speaking to us. Instead of speaking louder or at least bend just a bit to be at our level so that she can hear us or so that we can hear her. She gave a look like she didn't hear us and when we didn't hear her we did the same and it was kinda annoying. Overall it was an alright experience. Hopefully it'll be better next time. read more

I came here with my friend because we missed Boiling Point! I ordered #1 on the menu, which was beef, and my friend ordered the one with lamb. She said it tasted pretty much like Boiling Point and I agreed with her. I think the hotpot was good. It tasted great and the service was good. We went there around 5:30pm to avoid the crowd and the food was served pretty fast. I also tried their Hokkaido Milk Tea. It was ok; I like it sweeter (like the one from Boiling Point). I keep on comparing this with Boiling Point because the menu and the ingredients they put into the hotpot were very VERY similar. They tasted similar too! If you are a fan of Boiling Point and you love hotpot, you definitely need to try this! The lunch and dinner is only $1 difference so I don't think it matters if you come for lunch or dinner. I love spicy food but I personally really can't eat spicy. I ordered mild spicy level for my hotpot and it was perfect. It was not really spicy. If you like and can eat spicy food, I would recommend getting medium spicy. I hope you will like Tasty Pot as much as I do. I had the Healthy Veggie Hot Soup with medium spice. The flavor was good I asked for no tofu of any kind and they did that. My biggest issue with this dish is that it was mostly cabbage. I like cabbage but not that much. There were hardly any mushrooms or broccoli which I found disappointing. My friend got the curry hot soup and there were all kinds of things in there! Originally, I was intending on giving Tasty Pot 4 stars, but times have changed. Somehow it's gotten better each and every time I've been. Perhaps it's due to the fact that most recently, I had it on an empty stomach on a cold, rainy day... regardless, it definitely deserves at least 4 stars. Along with an influx of health-conscious restaurants around Berkeley, it seems that there has been an equally strong influx of hot pot restaurants around the area. Both Peak Point and Tasty Pot are quality choices in my opinion, but Tasty Pot has the edge for now. Every time that I've gone, there has been a wait, but the wait is absolutely worth it. My personal favorite is the Cheesy Milk Hot Soup and as weird as that combination of warm milk + cheese might sound. it is actually really good (of course only if you really like dairy). They have a plethora of different hot pots to choose from, and you can customize the spiciness level too. On the menu, they list out the different ingredients in each hot pot, which is really helpful when you're trying to decide among all the wonderful options. I am a regular customer at Tasty Pot. My niece and I have been coming at least 3 times per week. We came in today on a warm day. The place was not even half full. The manager refused to allow us to sit in a window seat. It was only 5:30pm. She said she would rather lose a customer than seat us. She let us walk out. My niece really wanted to stay so I asked to speak with the owner who was not there. The floor manager and workers stood at the counter talking and laughing. They did not bring us menus or water. When I pointed out that their treatment was disrespectful, the waitress went back and the all laughed again. If it weren't for my niece I wouldn't have stayed. To be clear, it wasn't because she said "no" it was the fact that that was all she said: "No. I won't do that" and continued looking at computer screen. One waitress came in later who spoke to us and was apologetic and professional. She said she would convey our message, that it was likely a language barrier. She saved it for us because she was courteous. Again, it was the lack of professionalism and respect on the floor manager's part that was upsetting. Even with a language barrier it was the nonverbal body language (I'm also Chinese and speak Mandarin). I came in around 5:30 pm on a Saturday night and it was just beginning to fill up (about 50% full). We were seated quickly and ordered shortly thereafter. First timers, you cannot go wrong with the beef hot pot with mild spicy level (Personally, I like medium). In the beef hot pot, they give a variety of fish cakes and vegetables with a good portion of meat. Being extremely hungry, I also ordered a side of beef ($4.25) expecting it to be small, but surprisingly it came out a hefty portion. *Forewarning for non-cilantro eaters: They heavily decorate the side order of beef with cilantro. The meal was quick and delicious and the service was good. Upon leaving, the storm was picking up, but there was still a huge line of people waiting. Waitor checked in many times to refill our waters or broths. In terms of food, I ordered a very spicy beef hotpot. Minus the amount of smoke (from the fire) that flew into my face throughout the meal + the super spicy broth that made my tongue feel like it was burning, I thought overall, the beef hotpot was an aightt good- savory and spicy just the way I like it! ALSO, if you're an avid spicy eater like me, I deeply advise you to try Medium instead of Very Spicy because my tongue felt like it was on fire (spicy level is NO JOKE) & usually I can take spicy food very well! I've been to this place many times. In my past experiences, this place was cozy and the food was satisfying. However, what I experienced today was very unpleasant. I ordered a beef hotpot and a logan juice with no ice, just like what I did every time. Yet, I was served with a logan juice full of ice. It was basically a full cup of ice with juice filling the gaps. When I restated to the tall waitress(who made the drink) that I wanted no ice, she replied, "we can't make logan juice with no ice." When I refused to drink it and asked to cancel this item, she claimed, "it has come to your table. You can choose not to drink this, but you have to pay for it." Please note that I hadn't even opened the drink at this time. Her extremely awful attitude successfully decreased my appetite. Later, I also discovered that there were no beef meatballs in my hotpot(which there should be), and the logan juice tasted different from my past experiences. It used to be a jelly texture with some actual fruit inside, but today it was plain "juice" which tasted like sugar water. After today, this place will no longer be my favorite hotpot restaurant in Berkeley. read more

Ahhhh Tasty Pot, perhaps the most reliable food place that my friends and I will default to whenever we wanna eat out. While there can be quite a wait time during peak hours, service is usually fast as you can order while you're waiting. I always get the curry or the lamb hot soup but my favorite is probably the taiwanese supreme spicy which costs a little extra for a bigger pot. The broth is flavorful and the portion sizes are big enough so that you will usually have leftovers. I love taking the leftover soup back home and adding ramen/vermicelli noodles, fish balls, spam, and an egg for another meal! read more

The service was fine and the atmosphere was fun but the food had concerns. Consistency is problematic. My medium spice lamb soup was way too hot with the chili oil covering the top. My daughters medium Kimchi dumpling soup was not hot at all. In general the food was good enough to want to try it again but get mild or no spice, there's bowls of chili oils and spices at the table so just add it yourself later to be safe. I would also suggest not getting the vermicelli because the quantity they give you is like a tablespoon after it gets wet, go with the rice, even that is a little skimpy for my liking.
