I've gone here once before and didn't love it but I will definitely would come back. I got the beef hot soup. It contains a variety of food like like napa, beef slices, enoki mushrooms and more. I liked that is was already a set rather than everything being a la carte. I also added instant ramen because I loveeee anything with noodles. Came here for late lunch on a weekend and it was not too busy. Seemed like they only had one server but they were efficient in seating and ordering process. We ordered the Szechuan spicy pot and the Japanese miso pot. They were both the larger portions! It also comes with a side of rice or noodle. I was surprised when I finished the Lamb Hot Soup since it gave the impression that it was for more than one person. That aside it was one of the best foods I've ever had at a restaurant. I was in need of a meal that was as good as beef but not strong that day that could warm me up and not overfill me and the portion size was just right. Most of all, the white rice that came with the dish was one of the best I've ever eaten. Eating a chopstick-full by itself after having some of the soup has a great taste to it that's rare for me. One other thing that's good about it is the meal is kept at a constant temperature that keeps the food from going cold so you can continue to enjoy it. Compliments to the ones who made the meal. The cost for my meal was surprisingly affordable for one person, which was around $28-$29, great food for a great cost for one person depending on what you have and decide to include when ordering. For a family it's a nice place to go have lunch and/or dinner together in. For one person, save for the socializing happening around you, it was a nice place to eat a good meal in peace especially if you have music to listen to. Service was good, the employees are nice and judging by the cleanliness of the tables they care about providing a good place to have a meal in. Updating my review because the service has gotten faster the last few times I've gone. This is def my favorite hot pot spot in the Cities because of the quality ingredients and flavorful broth. It's your own pot and everything is already in the pot for you, but you get a lot of food and you can have a side of rice or noodles (I always end up with rice) . They don't have a sauce bar but you can request dipping sauces. It's hard for me to try new soups because I am loyal to the stinky tofu, beef, and Taiwanese soups. The boba tea is also decent here. One of a kind restaurant in Minnesota! I've been to this place so many times I can't even remember but this is the first time giving it a review. A little restaurant located in Dinkytown by U of M. It's always the place to go to when it's raining, or snowing, or just cold outside. You order your individual pot filled with different meat, veggies, broth flavor, and noodles. Each order comes with a choice of vermicelli noodles (clear noodles) or rice. All the of the pot will come with some sort of noodles in it already at the bottom. I usually get the rice because I love rice. The premium pots are a little bit bigger than the standard ones but also cost a little more. Some pots makes sense with more seafood but some pots are not wort the $3-4 more. The pots are also cheaper during lunch but I think it comes with a little less in the pot as well. I think that one normal pot is enough to fill the belly. If I get the premium, there's always extra to take home. So the portion is good. You can always ask for more broth. They have a generic broth to fill your pot up (not your specific broth because that would be too much). Their spice level is asian spicy. I eat pretty spicy but like their mild spice level more than medium. Just the flavoring is better in my opinion. They do have chili with oil so you can always spice it up more. They have 3 different sauces but during covid you'll have to ask for it and they'll bring you individual bowls. I love their sweet sauce with a little of Chili oil in it. Social distancing wise the tables aren't 6 feet apart since the place is really small but they try. It won't be the place for you if you like the space. Pretty sure they use tap water but I would never want to drink it because it tastes bad. I think they should get a filter to filter the water or a better filtration system especially during covid. Tastes like straight tap water from the sink. They do have boba teas if you're interested. But I would recommend to stop by kungfu tea after down the block. I like it better there. Now to the food!! Beef hot soup- this is my favorite soup here! Always my go to but once in awhile I'll try something new but usually a disappointment. The broth to me seems the most flavorful and I like all the stuff inside the pot. My bf only gets this. Although one time I think we got bad meatballs in our pot. 4/5 Kimchi- the one today is quite flavorful and yummy this time. Even my mom who is picky says it was good. I like that they have dumplings in this pot. The first time I had it, it was a little too sour (kimchi) and didn't taste as good. I guess it's a miss or hit sometimes. 4/5 Sichuan- this is something new I tried today and I would never try again. The broth is bland and spicy. There was no flavor to it except being spicy. I was disappointed because I love sipping on the broth. I got mild but it was at least a medium. So expect bland spicy if you get there. There was nothing special with the meat and veggies either. As I got near the end of eating the pot, I can taste herbal seasonings (like herbal medicine) which was weird. Even my mom thought it was weird and didn't like it. So if you don't like bland spicy broth that has an herbal taste stay away from this. This is definitely not worth the $4 more because the stuff inside is generic and nothing unique. I think it should be the same price as the non-premium pots. 2/5 I've also tried the Vietnamese seafood, Thai flavor, Japanese flavor, and seafood but those were all ok flavoring not the best with the price honestly. 3/5 The service is always good. It's always the same waiter. Today there were only 2 people working. Tasty Pot absolutely lives up to its name as being, well, pretty damn tasty! The portions are HUGE. Even if you opt to not "refill" your broth (which is just adding more boiling water) the amount of food you get for the price is pretty fair. They do have locations all over the US and Canada, so YMMV but the service was speedy and friendly - they were prompt to get our order and attentive. The food itself - I ordered the beef hot pot since it was my first time there, and the broth was absolutely the highlight of the dish. It tasted beefy and not watered down, which I appreciated. Just be aware if they refill your broth, it's obviously just going to taste like a watered down version of whatever spices are left in your bowl at the time. For the ingredients itself, I do wish they put a little less cabbage. Proportion wise to the rest of the meat, it's probably 50% napa cabbage and 50% the assortment of meatballs, beef slices, other fish sticks/cakes. You also do get to customize how spicy you want your dish - some broth options are inherently more spicy than others, so do beware when you're choosing. I chose medium, right in the middle, and I thought that was plenty spicy for me. You can also choose to have rice or vermicelli noodles, and while I enjoyed having the noodles in my dish, I do feel like they don't give you a lot. For the amount, you do get more with the rice option instead. Overall, it was a great place to be on a cool morning! Parking is inconvenient (it's located right smackdab in Dinkytown) so circle around the block or plan on street parking the next block down. Also - ask for the dipping sauce. I'm super stoked to find Tasty Pot on a work trip to Minneapolis, this brand is originally from Taiwan and is all over California. I am usually a Boiling Point fan but I'm down to try new places. The food and the flavor was decent, I had the Taiwanese stinky tofu option but I think this is a franchise and the service was ok too but really what took away a little bit of brilliance is the lack of attention to detail on cleaning the hot pot stands. I don't think those are ever cleaned..... yes it's not touching my food, yes it's got a lot of little crevices and it's hard to clean, but no it's still "serving" my food and for it to not be cleaned.... makes me wonder about their kitchen..... I looked at the hot pot stands at other people's tables and it's the same story. I'd be back if I really crave the food but it might make me take a second to debate if it's worth it. I've been waiting to try this place for a while now and overall think it's ok! To me, this was affordable but not traditional hot pot because you don't get to cook it yourself- but it's quick and easy, especially if you're a student or a working professional trying to get lunch with limited time, and still delicious. The menu was clear and easy to follow. We ordered the seafood fillet hot soup, thai (basically Tom Yum), medium spicy with vermicelli noodles and the Hokkaido Milk Tea with tapioca pearls. For the hotpot: I wish it was traditional hot pot style (or at least had the option to be) where the broth is already boiling hot and you get to cook the protein/veggies yourself because I love that part about hot pot and I felt like the cabbage and onions was overcooked for my liking. But the portion size of one hot pot was very generous and good enough for two, so it was pretty affordable (we just ordered a bowl of rice on the size too). The broth was spicy and sour like Tom Yum but I added more sauce to kick up the spiciness and savoriness. By the end I was so full, I decided to past of the delicious looking ice cream macaroons! For the bubble/boba tea: The bubble tea came in a really cute cup and I was super excited but looks could be deceiving. The bubble tea was watery and did not have as many tapioca pearls has I would have liked. The sweetest also tasted a bit off and there wasn't much tea flavor. As for the service it was okay. The server was a bit quiet and I had to ask her to repeat herself a few times but she was nice about it. They were a bit slow- but it also got a busy when we were waiting to pay. As for parking- only metered. I'm still thinking about my stinky tofu bowl. It was so stinky, pungent, and funky. I want to rub it all over my face. I loved it so much. I may not even try any other bowl, that's how addicted I might be. This is a perfect meal for a cold MN day. The little pots your soup come in keep your broth scalding hot, and the best part is you can ask them to fill up your broth once you slurp it all up and have a ton of goodies left. I'm also addicted to the fermented soybean sauce on the table. I need to find out what else they add in with the soybean paste to make it the perfect salty, sweet, tangy, slightly spoiled sauce. I kept adding spoonfuls into my already stinky soup. Yes, I'm one of those Asians that suck on fish eyeballs and gargle balut. The more stinky and foul it is the better.
