You constantly hear horror stories from renovations and construction projects, but our experience with these folks was a smooth one We had them do a media room addition (30 x 20) and also a fireplace in our living room. The manager is professional, knowledgeable, and patient. He listened to what we wanted and helped create the exact design for us. They handled everything including the design, plans, and permits.The best part of our experience though was Tate. He was with us every step of the way. He is super responsive, and answered all calls and texts. He then helped us select material, always gave us status updates, and never once was impatient or annoyed by any of our questions. We hired Tate and Son to install tile in our kids bathroom. My wife and I wanted to do most of the bathroom remodel ourselves, but one thing we did not want to take on was laying the tile. I was working on a DIY herring bone tile inset project to go above my stove. But when we cut the mosaic tile the edges came out chipped and ragged - see first picture below. I even bought a scoring tile cutter, but the cuts chipped and were not straight. I called 4 tile contractors and no one answered their phone. I was about to give up on this project when Shawn Tate called me back. I described my project and asked if he could cut my tiles, if I came to the job site. He arranged for his workers to cut my tile. I drove to the work site and Armando and his helpers were really nice. He graciously cut the tile pieces for me and his helper sanded the edges free of charge. I didn't think it would be possible to cut these tiles straight without chipping. You can see in the 2 pictures what a fine job they did compared to the ragged edges that we had cut. They also showed me how to sand the edges. I observed the other mosaic tiles they had cut for their current job and the quality was excellent, the cuts clean and straight. I would still be trying to figure out what to do, if Shawn and Armando had not helped me out. They are great folks, friendly, courteous, and they did a beautiful job on my tile. We used Shawn's group in our first home for a kitchen remodel. It was beautiful so when we got into our new home we called him for a big project. We remodeled the kitchen, build a new room, knocked down walls to open the kitchen and dining areas, put in a French door, fireplace refacing and other things that went with it like painting. Everyone from Shawn, to Alfonso and his crew were very responsive and went out of their way to make us happy and our place beautiful. It's gorgeous! We also had some unrelated home emergencies during this time- a roof leak and a broke water heater, which both times Alfonso and crew were able to immediately get those fixed as well- even though it was not part of the project. I will always be thankful for this, because the days these things happened I was very stressed, so I was so thankful they were available, fast, walked me through it and kept me calm and fixed the problems. Before starting I was very worried about people being in my house for months, including because my dog does not like strangers. We had damage to the garage wall, frame and damage to the bathroom on the inside due to a car hitting the garage wall and causing damage both inside and outside. We had Tate & Son quote a renovation project at our home. Shawn, the owner who came for the estimate, spent most of his time trying to figure out how much they could charge us: asking how much we were paying for an unrelated construction project being completed, asking about what we did for a living, and so on. It was awkward. He followed up by text with a $40K estimate for labor only! No formal itemized quote. Shawn said, if we were okay with paying $40k, then he'd put together a formal quote. To put that in perspective, the same exact job is now being done by another licensed and insured contractor at $6k for labor only, and we were emailed a formal itemized quote. With materials, our project will be completed for half of what Shawn quoted. We've spent $100K already renovating our home, so we're familiar with contracting costs and spotting price gouging tactics. Fast forward to this week when I saw Shawn's family member, Lori Tate, recommending their company to a neighbor on the app Nextdoor. As a heads up to my neighbor, I posted about our experience. When this got back to Shawn, he accidentally texted my husband meaning to text his family member / colleague (as attached). My husband's response (in blue) sums it up, though he didn't call out inaccuracies about what we were asking for in our renovation: no moving walls (we wanted an existing bathroom doorway framed and a hinged door put on), no major electrical (only swapping a few vanity lights), floor tile only in 3 bathrooms, no other flooring or tile. The estimate was for a partial renovation of 3 bathrooms without tub or shower replacements, just a drain fix on 1 free standing tub. You be the judge as to whether that's $40K worth of labor only. Since posting on Nextdoor, I've received messages from other neighbors saying they had the same experience with Shawn and his company. There are other truly professional and fair contractors out there. Get multiple quotes. Things cost what they cost, yet some contractors inflate their margins to an extreme if they think they can get away with it. Your budget and personal finances shouldn't be the basis of pricing for your project. read more

A friend recommended these guys when we decided to change the carpet floors to hardwood in my mum's place, and we could not be more satisfied. First, they did everything in just 3 days, while my mum's place is about 1500 sq. f. (we did not do the kitchen though). Secondly, they are EXTREMELY clean, which is rare for construction workers, and is important for the home owners. After the the job was done they left our place spotless. Specifically, when you are working with timber, you can expect this to be a mess, however we did not even notice what they were doing. All the old carpet was disposed and they even helped us get rid of some old rugs we had in storage and could not throw them away as they were too big and heavy for us. And finally, they moved around everything so carefully, we did not even noticed that some major construction work is going on. Honestly, my mum was getting ready for this even for over a year. I called Shawn and he immediately picked up the phone and i started to explain to him what I needed and how i pretty much needed it to look like in the end and he said "no problem, we can do that". Lol in the end there was nothing to laugh about because Shawn and his crew came through and blew my mind away.
